     Real Life Situation
 Established due to student use of derogatory terms by SBC

 As an SBC officer, we believe that such terms are being
openly used in the CA community mainly amongst students in
     inconsiderate ways

 Hence, use of derogatory language hints towards disrespectful
     attitude
 Words such as “gay”, “faggot”, “homo” are potential words that
         can affect certain people’s emotions

 As open-minded students of the IB and CA, we should respect
and compassionately impact our society (at the least)
+ Knowledge Issue

                   language
How does our use of affect
                emotion?
+ Significance of Real Life
  Situation

 Seeing how language filters what people believe & perceive

 Language affects emotion in two ways —

     Positive (+)
 How does our use of language positively affect
          emotion?

     Negative (-)
 How does our use of language negatively affect
          emotion?
+ Language Hinders Emotion (Negative Affect)
  Weakens Knowledge Claims

“Language is a means of making sense of emotions”

Weakens:
Negatively connoted language affects emotion
 Sets antipathetic mood, motivation, and disposition

Language has several interpretations hence, different views =
Potentiality of emotions being hindered

Example:
Language Promotes Emotion (Positive Effect)
+ Strengthens knowledge claims

•Motivates individual to feel a certain (positive) way

•Motivates people to help others learn about other knowledge
 claims
