3. His 5 steps
1. a state of equilibrium
2. a disruption to that order
3. a recognition of that disruption
4. an attempt to repair the disruption
5. a return/restoration to a new equilibrium
4. Equilibrium
The first part of the story which sets the scene and the
characters and establishes a peaceful start or the
setting of the story.
E.g. in a ‘zombie apocalypse’ movie at the start
everyone no one is infected and life is as it should be.
5. Disruption
This is where the plot takes a turn and an issue has
presented itself disrupting that equilibrium.
E.g. the infection breaks out and people are turning
into zombies breaking that peace and normality.
6. Recognition
This is where the protagonist and characters realize
this problem and then start making and effort to fix it.
E.g. the protagonist realize how to beat the zombies
and what it takes to make a cure.
7. Repair
This is where the characters attempt to fix the issue
and defat the disruption. This is usually in the third and
final act of the film where we see them fact the issue,
situation or antagonist.
E.g. the characters find a cure and defeat the zombies.
8. New Equilibrium
The characters have fixed the disruption now establish
a new equilibrium for them.
E.g. the zombies are defeated and there is a cure for
everyone. They now try to return everything to normal
and establish a new equilibrium.
