The History of Todd Engineering
doesn’t really start with the Directors
Lee and Chris Todd. It goes back much
further. The path to Todd Engineering
Ltd was formed by their grandfather,
Benjamin Smith.

3. TODD ENGINEERING LTD
Benjamin was a soldier during
World War Two and when the
opportunity came for him to
step up and become part of
The Commando Brigade, he
took it.
Between 1940 – 1945
Benjamin served as part of
this reputable and courageous
force. It was when Benjamin
was waiting to be demobbed,
he found work in A.I.D
compressed Air Equipment.
A.I.D had been the company
to supply paint and equipment
to the forces, painting military
vehicles and aircrafts, it was
their significance is what drew
Benjamin in to the industry.

4. TODD ENGINEERING LTD
He went on to work for A.I.D
until 1961.That was until
Burntwood Engineering co. Ltd
started up from a large bulk of
the A.I.D employees.
Benjamin stayed loyal to
Burntwood and the
Spraybooth industry until he
retired at the age of 65. By this
point, he had already
influenced his son-in-law
Christopher Todd Senior to
join him at Burntwood in 1966.
In 1978 Christopher also
influenced his son Chris Todd
Junior to join the spraybooth
industry and work for
Burntwood Engineering co. Ltd
shortly followed by his brother
Lee Todd in 1982.

6. TODD ENGINEERING LTD
It wasn’t until 1988 that Lee
and Chris Todd (Jr.), left to
start up their own company,
Todd Engineering.
At this point Todd Engineering
was an installation service, it
wasn’t until 2003 they invested
into the company to set up a
site of their own in Burntwood.
It was from this site they first
started to manufacture
Spraybooths. Using the
already strong client list, the
business went from strength to
strength and in 2008 they
needed to relocate to a larger
premises, which is where they
are located today.

7. The continued growth of Todd
Engineering is evident. The client list is
not only growing but the type of cliental
is also upscaling. Today Todd
Engineering Ltd is being approached
by larger clients wanting larger and
more advanced booths.

8. TODD ENGINEERING LTD
Their achievements over the
last year alone have made
headlines for scale, location,
growth in exports and
advancement in technology.
Both Lee and Chris are very
proud of the way this industry
is ingrained into their history.
The choices and actions of
Benjamin Smith and
Christopher Todd Senior gave
the opportunity to Lee and
Chris Todd, and it has been
the two brothers who have
pushed the company from
strength to strength to where it
is today.
