1. To Kill A Mockingbird Character Analysis
Essay
Writing a "To Kill a Mockingbird Character Analysis Essay" can be both challenging and
rewarding. On one hand, Harper Lee's classic novel offers rich and complex characters,
providing ample material for analysis. On the other hand, the depth and intricacy of these
characters can make it difficult to distill their essence into a coherent and compelling essay.
To begin with, the characters in "To Kill a Mockingbird" are multifaceted, with layers of
personality, motivations, and internal conflicts. Analyzing them requires a keen understanding of
the novel's themes and the historical context in which the story unfolds. For instance, delving
into the complexities of Atticus Finch's character involves exploring his moral compass, his role
as a father, and his unwavering commitment to justice in a racially divided society.
Moreover, crafting a character analysis essay requires a nuanced approach to literary analysis. It's
not just about summarizing the characters' actions but interpreting their significance within the
larger narrative. Readers must navigate the intricate web of relationships and social dynamics to
truly grasp the characters' impact on the story.
In addition, tackling such an essay demands a thoughtful integration of quotes and textual
evidence to support one's arguments. This involves a meticulous review of the novel, identifying
key passages that shed light on the characters' traits and development. The challenge lies in
seamlessly incorporating these excerpts into the essay while maintaining a coherent and
analytical narrative.
Furthermore, the need for original insights adds another layer of difficulty. "To Kill a
Mockingbird" has been extensively studied, and countless essays have been written on its
characters. Crafting a unique perspective that goes beyond the surface requires deep critical
thinking and a creative approach to literary analysis.
In conclusion, writing a character analysis essay on "To Kill a Mockingbird" demands a
combination of literary insight, historical understanding, and analytical prowess. While the
process may be arduous, the reward lies in uncovering new layers of meaning within the
characters' personas. It's an exercise that not only hones one's analytical skills but also fosters a
deeper appreciation for the nuances of literature.

3. The Causes And Effects Of Teen Depression
With over 3,000 attempts every day, suicide is the second leading cause of death
among youth in the United States (Teen Depression Study: Understanding
Depression in Teenagers). While there are many psychological and internal factors,
the responsibility to learn about the causes and effects of teen depression lies within
every person that hears this essay. Whether young, old, intelligent, or curly headed
procrastinator; we all possess a duty to the people around us to learn the
fundamentals of society s largest, deadly problem: depression.
Depression, unsurprisingly, manifests itself through a lack of energy, interest, or
motivation. It can also be shown by reduced social interaction, poor dieting, or
thoughts of death (www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/depression/index.shtml).
However, there are much less obvious effects of depression that are often much less
understood and discussed.
Alcoholism and substance abuse have been proven to, in many cases, be the effect of
major depression. In one survey conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, it was shown that those who had suffered a major
depressive episode within the last year were twice as likely to try drugs or alcohol
than those that had no major, recent episodes (Depressed Young Adults Likely to
Start Tobacco, Illicit Drug Use).
The evidence for the relationship between alcoholism and depression is not only
found in Psychological research, but physical (Mao). Researchers with Ning

In part six of RJ Palacio s realistic fiction novel Wonder, it shows the theme that new
things are great so you should take risks and live on the edge because you only live
once. One example of the theme is when August is starting to lose his hearing and
has to go to a special doctor. August has always hated the doctors office because it
brings back terrible memories like all 27of his face surgeries. He also thinks that
by getting hearing aids it gives people another reason to make fun of him. Ever
since I was little, the doctors told my parents that someday I would need hearing
aids.I don t know why but this always freaked me out (Palacio 211). Readers can

He also doesn t want to loose his two best friends and is afraid that if he gets and

to the theme because August has to take a risk (which in this case would be his
hearing aids) and if he challenges himself by just wearing it more people be like
oh, what is so bad about him and Auggie by taking one risk could have more
friends. In addition, the next quote is also occurring in the doctor s office. It is
when August puts them on and is crying to his mom that everyone will make fun
of him and that he would loose Summer and Jack. August thinks this because he
already has most people not liking him so when he puts on his hearing aids he
believes that people will call him more names. I can t wear them mom, everyone
will notice (Palacio 212). Readers can realize from this quote that August wants to
be as normal as possible and hearing aids aren t the answer. You are also informed
that August doesn t want to be there because his least favorite body part is his

and he takes it. He buys up the land before they do. When they see that they are

stealing dollars from the state s treasury, this is an example of dishonest graft.

no worse than 1835 as a class. It just means that the old timers had nothing to steal,
while the politicians in 1905 were surrounded by temptations.

6. Human Trafficking And The Trade Of Human Sex
Trafficking...
Between the time periods of 2005 and 2008, 10 countries in the region introduced
new anti trafficking laws or modified old ones. The United Nations has also picked up
the fight against ending all forms of modern slavery including human sex trafficking.
The U.N implemented the a protocol that focuses on (1) prevention and combat of
trafficking persons, paying particular attention to women and children; (2) to protect
and assist the victims of such trafficking, with full respect for their human rights; and
(3) to promote cooperation among States Parties in order to meet those objectives.
(UN Trafficking Protocol ) Europe, Asia, Africa, the U.N., the United States, and
other nations are fighting and implementing policies to contest to the world s
organized crime networks and combat the trade of human sex trafficking.
The U.S. needs to continue being more proactive concerning human trafficking and
the end of slavery. Some may ask how does human sex trafficking affect the U.S or
its foreign policy? Perhaps others ask if policies are already intact dealing with this
issue what more can we do? Well, one of the most basic but fundamental ways
human sex trafficking affects the foundation of this nation and any U.S foreign
policies deals with democracy. This nation was founded on the fundamental beliefs
and constitutional principles of our core democratic values. These core democratic
values are what constitutes the United States and provides a model as a superpower

NFL Kneeling and Crazy Media Hype Relatively recently the NFL players have
been partaking in symbolic gesturing during the National Anthem and as a result
have stirred the built up hype within media and consequently audiences. There
should be absolutely no debate in any of this situation regarding legalities. The
situation is very straightforward, and everyone understands (or must I say, should
understand ) the issue within a 10 second briefing. This is solely and example of
people s feelings and opinions, which is causing uproar in part because of its
critically divisive and particularly offensive execution. This is a scenario where a
ripple turned into a wave because of resentment being stoked by the exaggerated
media. To begin with, this is not a case for free speech in any way, if the playerswant
to make a statement or gesture then they should obviously expect to receive other s
viewpoints and opinions. It should not be shocking to people that there is a
disagreement, these sorts of events should certainly not be making headlines
especially not for this long. Concerning legalities and free speech, the playershave all

reins (pretty much the steering wheel of the horse) and reach down to grab the

it will fall over and add five second to the time. The tighter the rider can turn the

10. Hannibal Lecter Villain
Hannibal Lecter was the most feared psychopath created by Thomas Harris. Prior
to the release of The Silence of The Lamb America thought he was another fictional
character. After viewing the movie they began to realize Hannibal Lecter was
based off Doctor Alfredo Balli Travino. Travino was convicted and sentenced to
death for the manslaughter of his gay lover Rangel. The crime of passion included
Travino slicing his neck and draining his blood and methodically chopping Rangel
s body into pieces and shoving him into a box. Later he drove to a relative s farm
where he and a farm hand buried the box. Upon the discovery of the oddly marked
grave, by another worker, the police were informed. They went undercover to
Travino s practice and arrested him. Immoral actions are not only in the real world,
they are also depicted into novels. From fairy tales to love stories there is always a
villain that stands in the way of the traditional happy ending. For example in William
Shakespeare s Othello, The Moor of Venice Iago, the antagonist, formulates a

unfaithful to him. Iago s reasoning, jealousy and revenge, is what characterizes him

as one who acts upon them. Iago himself has passive contemplations that transform

11. Marcia Langton s Study of the Aborigines of Australia
Dr. Marcia Langton, an anthropologist from Australia of Australian Aborigines
descent, spoke at the Berndt s lecture in 2011. Her article, Anthropology, Politics and
the Changing World of Aboriginal Australians, focuses primarily on the works of an
anthropologist couple Robert and Catherine Berndt. They had completed many
ethnographic studies in various areas around Australia. Langton states that their work
has been crucial in order to have a complete understanding of the Australian
Aborigines society. The indigenous Australian s society has been thoroughly
researched by many social sciences through the decades. Artworks, religion, rituals,
economy, politics, and even claims of UFO sightings have been recorded by a

I am not sure why this has become such an issue for Australian anthropologists and
other anthropologists studying them. E. E Evans Pritchard, anthropologist,
ethnographer and author of Witchcraft, Oracles, and Magic Among the Azande, was
not of the Azande culture, yet his work has been monumental for modern
ethnographers. Langton herself attempts to immediately put this myth to rest in the
first paragraph of her lecture, There is a simplistic view that because I am
Aboriginal, being a descendant of the Yiman people in Central Queensland, I would
have a better understanding of Aboriginal societies than, say, the Berndts did. This
is not the case, as I shall explain (Langton 2011: 1 2). Langton goes on to express
her perspective about why it is incorrect to believe that just because someone is of a
specific culture, they are not experts in their society. For example, I am of Cherokee
descent but I am certainly no expert on the Cherokee Nation. In another article by
Langton s predecessor, R.M. Berndt, entitled Die Religionen der Sudsee und
Australiens by H. Nevermann; E. A. Worms; H. Petri, for which Berndt reviewed, he
pointed out a lot of misconstrued information. Berndt states the Professor Petri, one
of the authors, does not credit the Australian Aborigines enough. For example, E.A

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientists Tomo Eguchi and Jeff

exploration is going to aid scientists in getting a better understanding of what type of
habitats juvenile loggerheads live in prior to participating in the years prior to
participation in migration. Scientists are hopping to gain a better understanding of
where juvenile loggerheads live for the sake protecting their habitats from fisherman.
As of now, scientists have predicted that juvenile loggerheads tend to inhabit the same
environments as swordfish. This is extremely dangerous to the lives of sea turtles
considering that swordfish are heavily hunted by many fishermen. Therefore, if
scientist theories are correct, the loggerheads are living in very dangerous
environments. This exploration was initiated when a Coast Guard vessel found the
loggerhead and took it to the Aquarium of the Pacific, where it would receive
medical attention. For the next four to five months, scientists will follow the turtle s

14. Enzyme Lab Report On Hydrogen Peroxide
Enzyme Lab Report
Hydrogen peroxide is a toxic byproduct of cellular functions. To maintain hydrogen
peroxide levels the catalase enzyme deconstructs hydrogen peroxide and reconstructs
the reactants into oxygen gas and water. The catalase enzyme is found inside cells of
most plants and animals. Regulating the levels of hydrogen peroxide is crucial in
homeostasis and analyzing it s optimal conditions for performance is just as
important. To understand the optimal environment for this enzyme, they are put into
different environments based off protein activity (enzymes are proteins). Catalase
samples will be put into different hydrogen peroxide environments based off pH and
temperature. The more active the enzyme, the more oxygen and water it will
produce. Enzyme activity can be seen through the release of oxygen in the hydrogen
peroxide. Since oxygen cannot be accurately measured, the data will consist of the
longevity of the reaction in different environments. If the pH is higher than 7, then
the reaction rate will increase due to the ample amount of hydrogen ions in the
hydrogen peroxide. However the pH level cannot be higher than 10 or else there will
be too many hydrogen atoms in the peroxide for the enzyme to be able to deconstruct
them. If the temperature is increased, then the reaction rate will increase due to the
ample amount of energy and movement in the hydrogen peroxide and enzyme.

It is not by accident that Wright used the lamp to take place of the sun in the model
being explained by the philosopher. The lamp symbolizes the sun of our solar system.
Just as our sun illuminates the dark corners of our solar system, the lamp illuminates
the room in the painting.
It is clear that the main focus of the painting is to be on the light source. But after the
viewer recognizes the light source, their attention is drawn upward to the man in the
bright red garments. His garments are well groomed, yet they are not lavish. This
gives the idea that he is a man of the middle class. The position of this man
immediately makes the viewer realize that he is the second most important focus of
the piece. By the way he is positioned higher than the other people in the portrait, as
well as in the middle of the group, and closest to the philosopher, one could assume
that he is the man that organized and funded the assembly of people gathered around
the orrery. Without the man in the red garments, this scene would never have taken
place.
Once the viewer carefully examines the man in the red garments, it becomes
apparent that his eyes, nor his mind, are focused on the light source that the other
members of the assembly are infatuated with. The viewer follows his eyes and locks
on to the man in bluish gray garments. His garments, too, indicate that he is a part of

Like any racing event, a student racing event also has the thrill and intensity of

Along with good acceleration and high velocity, a good deceleration is an
important parameter which decides the performance of the vehicle. A good
amount of deceleration is required especially while maneuvering sharp corners
[2]. Besides, the Formula Student racing event is classified into static events and
dynamic events. In order to qualify to the dynamic events every team must clear
the scrutinizing which include the brake test [3] wherein every car should brake
in a straight line between two marked lines on the track. It can be accounted that
better deceleration is required to execute smooth cornering and qualify the brake

steering can be utilized. The aerodynamic wings also known as the spoilers can be
modified to capture the drag force created due to the motion of the vehicle and
thereby contribute to braking. This paper is based on the work done over the NITK

attack of the rear airfoil while braking. On application of brakes, the aerodynamic
wings present at the rear is adjusted to corresponding angle of attack where the drag
created is maximum. A study has been done to find the amount

the 20th century. Advocates of trends such as information superhighways and
economic globalization appear to know nothing of history, philosophy and culture;
they live digitally in the hollow present. Postman assesses different ideas in each

Chapter Six: Narratives Postman states that the narratives of the 20th and
21st centuries should not cause us to view prior narratives and philosophies in a
derogatory or condescending light. Quoting Niels Bohr, Postman writes, The opposite
of a correct statement is an incorrect statement. The opposite of a profound truth is
another profound truth. Postman says that we should consider the values of other
cultures and eras vision of Truth to make true progress and attain true wisdom.
Chapter Seven: Children Postman stresses the importance of a childhood, a concept
that Postman thinks is disappearing from our culture. Chapter Eight: Democracy
Basically reiterating some themes from his chapter on language and also highlighting
the works of Rousseau and Tocqueville, Postman emphasizes that we should
acknowledge that democracy is an idea that is ever changing. He also examines the
effects of TV and other technological advances on the public s view of democracy.
Chapter Nine: Education Postman criticizes modern American concepts of education,
claiming that the facts , history , and
critical thinking that is encouraged in schools does not allow for our children to be
fully educated.
Postman offers five suggestions for a complete reform of American schools,

20. Keys to Win the Cola War with Innovative Marketing
Strategies
Product Mix: Key to Winning the Cola War Pepsi and Coca Cola have stood the
test of time through one of the strongest competition rivalries ever seen in the
business world. Each time that one of these beverage giants makes an innovative
move to conquer a new or existing beverage market, the other is quick to respond
with even better innovations or products. Through the years, each of these
companies have heralded fabulous discoveries and absolute flops as they continued
their endless search for the right mix of products that might someday give them the
largest market share in an ever growing and ever needed market. The results so far
have been increased competitiveness and long product lines for both companies. In
this essay, I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pepsi and Coke have also been targeting this growing consumer market in their
soda lines with new innovations of low or no carb drinks such as Pepsi Edge3 and
Coke s C24, as well as reinvigorations of their already no carb diet drinks. So where
do the sports drinks fit into this low carb craze? The answer is they don t. Each of
these sports drinks is packed with enough carbohydrates to equal a liquid potato,
making them nothing but a memory for people whose daily carb intake is down to
20 60 grams.5 Thus, we have a void in the beverage market that is not being filled.
Further deepening this void is the fact that people losing weight tend to be more
active, craving something besides water or diet soda after their workouts. This is
a perfect example of how a shift in product mix for either company could give them
distinct competitive advantage. By simply creating a no carb line of Gatorade or
PowerAde sports drinks, the company will have altered its product mix and filled
the market void with brand loyal users, adding to the overall market resiliency and
strength of the parent company.6 Further analysis of this product line could also
reveal strong needs for having different strengths of sports drinks for different
levels of activity (i.e. zero carbs for slightly active, 15 grams of carbs for moderately
active, and up to 120 grams for marathon runners) enabling a kind of mass
customization to ensure that the product line can suit any and all

How to Successfully Find the Best Dental Suction Units Buying dental supplies is
an important part of being in the practice. This is one of those fields that require
you to have the necessary tools and the necessary equipment to make sure that you
are able to successfully attend to the needs of every patient that will walk inside
your clinic needing your assistance. You want to purchase tools that are going to
work not just for the short term, but ones that are expected to remain functional in
the long term as well. This is why it helps when you know what factors you must

This is if you want to be sure that you have the right products and the best
equipment that you can use when assisting your patients. Be sure to buy products
that are going to be made by manufacturers who have earned a good reputation over
the years. There is a good chance that they have been getting very good feedback
from their customers and buyers and you would certainly want to capitalize on that
as much as you can. Never buy products at bpsmedical.co.uk simply because they
are the ones that are available. You should never settle for these times especially
when the overall efficiency of your operation and the success in which you can
handle the concerns of your patients will depend a lot on it. Use this opportunity to
ensure that at the end of the day, you get items that are exactly what you need them
for. Never go for the cheapest kind too. Rather, consider the overall quality of these
devices. In the same manner, consider the usability of these products too. You
certainly need to make sure that you are not just getting expensive units that may not
have any uses at all. When you invest on dental tools, see to it that it is not only
something that you will use on the short term, but one that you will be using on the
long term too so you are sure that you are getting the most of

Tom Ripley isn t entirely sure of who he is, taking on the identity of multiple
characters to hide behind a mask of insecurity. We meet him in the beginning of

as pretending to be a well educated well mannered Princeton graduate. Tom Ripley
has gotten away with all his frauds, impersonations, and forgeries until his past comes

has done manifesting into panic attacks and compulsions. Despite Tom Ripley being
an unlikeable character, he seems to capture the reader s attention by the end of the

wanted to kill Dickie (Highsmith 95). Toms desire to be accepted clouds his
reasoning as he devises a sinister plan to kill and take over Dickie s life. Through
his thoughts, we find that he cannot differentiate between right and wrong.
Morality never plays a part in his decisions, as he s given a choice; let Dickie live

most people would just be envious, but not Ripley. He has other plans. Tom has no

battery life doesn t last very long. Playing a game for only twenty minutes really
drains the battery. I change the batteries in my daughters pad about every two to
three days, and batteries aren t cheap. The pad takes four triple A batteries. When
purchasing the LeapPad two you have the option to buy a rechargeable battery pack,
but it will cost you extra money, and the battery pack doesn t work well with the
LeapPad two. The pack was made for the newest versions of the LeapPad. The other
option you have when buying the pad is to buy rechargeable batteries and a battery
charger. This too will cost you extra money on top of the price of the pad.
Another weakness the pad has is it can t connect to Wi Fi. Being able to go on the
internet for educational websites, and being able to connect to Wi Fi connections
would also make the LeapPad much better.
The LeapPad two teaches children to read in a fun, and exciting way. The
characters on the LeapPad two have spectacular animations, and the pad recognizes

26. Theme Of Blackberry Picking And Digging
In his poems Blackberry Picking and Digging, Seamus Heaney unveils many
events of his childhood along with his feelings about his past. His emotions are
very paradoxical and simple he is overjoyed at first, and then suddenly becomes
very sad and depressed in the second part of both of the poems. Such ironical
emotions are used to give an impact on the readers as well as depicting how life
could be simple and complicated at the same time. Literary devices such as
alliteration, the use of structure, and the engagement of senses are used to
communicate Heaney s contradictory feelings about his youth. In the poem Digging,
feelings of admiration and regret are shown, whilst in Blackberry Picking, there are
the two emotions of excitement and disappointment.... Show more content on

Again, this poem is nostalgic and reflective when Heaney says by God, the old
man could handle a spade. Just like his old man, he attempts to show his
admiration towards his father as well as telling the readers how skilled a farmer
his father is. By God is used in an admiring tone rather than in an offensive way,
and just like his old man indicates Heaney s grandfather, who is portrayed to be
experienced, proficient, and diligent. The fact that Heaney is proud of his
forefathers is indisputable, and it is made clear again when Heaney recalls himself
delivering milk to his grandfather. His grandfather had straightened up to drink it,
then fell to right away nicking and slicing neatly, heaving sods. he needs no break
and takes great pride in his work. The family had been farming for years, and
although he is extremely proud of his forefathers, Heaney does feel sorry because he

27. Alfred Hitchcock Comparison Paper
For this paper, I have decided to compare two Hitchcock films. Ever since I can
remember, I have seen Alfred Hitchcock films; Psycho, The Birds, North by
Northwest, I enjoy his work because I like the suspense, and visual effects that he
was able to accomplish. Out of all of his films, I believe that my favorite Hitchcock
films would have to be Rear Window (1954) and Vertigo (1958), because I think that
the two incorporate everything that is Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock films are known
for being mysterious, cynical, as well as suspenseful and they are all similar because
of his use of symbolism, light, repetitive actors, and repetition of theme.

he can see all of his neighbors. With all of this spare time, around 4 weeks, Jeff
learned nearly everything there was to know about his neighbors. He learned when
they would go to work, come home, eat dinner, bathe, dance, play musical
instruments, as well as spy on the old woman that is suicidal. He had originally
done this just to pass the time until one day he saw a neighbor across the way

I really enjoyed this film because it all takes place nearly in one location. The set
is elaborate, and you can see from the inside of Jeff s apartment into the windows
of his neighbors. It is filmed in such a way that you feel as though you are looking
out of a window, and you become a part of the chaos with the actors. The pace of
the film also intrigued me. I enjoyed how it was filmed almost in real time and you
become drawn in because everything is timed perfectly. It is suspenseful because you
are watching everything happen and it is also possible to notice things in the

29. Thesis For Lakota Drought
Lakota Drought: Are Dams Key to Resolving Soil Instability? For decades the
Lakota tribe on the South Dakota plains had been living comfortably off of the
lush land. They used the soil s nutrients and the fresh rain water to plant their crops
and help them grow. They practiced their customs and sang their songs on the
immense amount of land that they had. The land was as beautiful as ever and
mother earth was healthy. Over the years as times changed, the climate did as well.
Fifteen years of on and off again drought has plagued the Cheyenne River
Reservation of South Dakota and has left it almost impossible for the soil to absorb
water. In a response to climate change, one Lakota family has organized a grassroots

According to an online source The Lakota Indians are a tribal Native American group
that resides in the northern part of the United States. Native Americans are
considered the first nation of North America. Although a large number of Indians
have immersed themselves into American culture, several tribal groups carry out
their daily affairs on Indian reservations . Many members from the tribe have left
to other locations and have adapted to a new lifestyle, meanwhile, others have
decided to stay in its original spot. One Lakota family decided to stay even though
life on the Cheyenne River Reservation hasn t always been that great. The soil used
to be rich and healthy. The rain used to provide necessary resources for survival.
However, due to climate change this created a major complication for the tribe.
Lately the land is not a fertile as it once was due to an inconsistent drought within
the past fifteen years. Although the hills look lush and green, it is a facade
because they re not really what they appear to be. Within recent months it has
rained heavily, but the soil is all dried up and is incapable of absorbing the water.
[T]he dry ground was unable to absorb the large quantities of rain, which ran off
into flooded creeks down the Missouri River, without ever replenishing the aquifer.
As a result of this, the soil cannot retain rich nutrients from the rainwater and this
causes the soil to dry up. This is a worrisome issue for current Lakota people living
on the land because they are not able to grow crops or drink fresh water from the
aquifer. They must limit their water consumption and plant their crops elsewhere.
The current natives are unable to truly live off of the land like their people once
did. In response to this problem, a Lakota family has started a grassroots group
called, Mni, to start a water project. One of the grassroots groups

I used to think my life was so hard. Ever since the Great War ended, I know what a
hard life actually is. My early life was so much simpler because Dad had a job as a
lawyer that paid well. When he went off to war, my older brother, Robert, my mom,
and I had to find jobs to pay the bills and feed the family. Now we cannot eat enough
to be satisfied. When Mom sends me to the grocery store to get food, I can only
buy the inexpensive items. After a year of Dad being gone, there is never enough
to feed Mom, my little sister, Emma, my little brother, Luke, my oldest brother,
Robert, and me. Dad still has not come home from the war. Every day, when I hear
someone walking in the hallways of our apartment building in New York City, I
pray that it is Dad coming home from the war. I can vividly remember the day Dad
was drafted. He came home from work. The entire family was gathered around the
table eating dinner. Dad had finished dinner, so he was opening the mail and
smoking a cigar. He did this after dinner every day. His face turned purple as he
opened one letter and his cigar fell out of his mouth. It landed on the floor and
burned the rug. What is it, Dad? Emma asked. The room went silent as we surmised
that Dad had been drafted.
I will hurry home the day the war ends, Dad promised as he left the house the next
morning. Our family believed that he would return to us, but it has been a month
since the war ended, and he still has not arrived. Our next door neighbors, the

Computer crimes can be defined as the unauthorized use of a computer for personal

fraud, hacking, and piracy (Opposing News.) One aspect of a computercrime that I

theft and identity fraudas terms used to refer to all types of crime in which someone
wrongfully obtains and uses another person s personal data in some way that
involves fraud or deception, typically for economic gain (Department of Justice.)
Information that can be used to aid in the theft of your identity includes personally
identifiable information (PII.) PII can be best described as data that could potentially
be used to identify a specific person; which includes information such as your date of

continue to be a problem that will only grow in direct proportion to the number of

32. Beloved
Slavery has been a vital part of America s history since it began in 1619. Such
history must be preserved in order to understand its ongoing influence in issues
today, but thousands of stories of those enslaved have been lost or forgotten in time.
Toni Morrison expresses why the narrative of slavery must be continued on by
integrating the life of Margaret Garner into her novel Beloved. In Beloved, Toni
Morrisonintertwines fiction with the story of Margaret Garner in order pass it on and
explore what might have been if the circumstances surrounding Garner had been
different.
Margaret Garner and Sethe s murder of their children happened very similarly, but
the reaction and the aftermath differed. In 1856, Margaret Garner killed her
youngest child, and went to trial as a result. The case garnered nationwide attention
and inspired sympathy for the abolitionist cause. Despite the support, Garner
struggles to process what she has done. She knows her child is dead, but she does

Polaris was competing against Harley s American motorcycle image. To compete

The classifying of medium tasters, no tasters, and super tasters are based on the
theory mentioned by Pelletier Steele (2014) that the amount of taste buds affects
ultimately the tasting sensations in each person. Which this theory makes sense the
more taste buds someone has present the more likely they are to be supertasters
because they can have more sensors to have a reaction to the taste. Whereas Nagy,
Steele, Pelletier (2014) mentions how as people progress in age their tongue
changes over the years and loses taste buds, which with less taste buds they have a
more likely chance of being a no taster. More than likely therefore the data showed a
small percentage of no tasters because it is not as likely to occur in this median age

bitterness. Those who are supertasters probably have the homozygous sensitivity and
that is why they reacted so much to the strip (Dietsch, Solomon, Steele, Pelletier,
36. Enterprise Systems Architecture Of An Organization
Enterprise Systems Architecture
Kerven Nelson
Nova Southeastern University
Enterprise system Architecture (ESA) is the overall IT system architecture of an
organization. This architecture is the key part of managing and evolving IT systems,
and therefore the business operations, of an organization. It consists of the
architectures of individual systems and their relationships in the perspective of an
organization. The Air Force has a limited idea of what enterprise architectureis, how
it works, and most importantly, why it is needed.
The point of this paper is to discuss these key questions, to present some guidelines
for implementation of enterprise architecture, and make people aware of some of the
possible consequence of enterprise architecture development. Architecture is known
to be necessary when considering the design of a new building. However, architecture
is equally as important when considering the design and creation of a composite
system within a business. Whether a business is expanding or new area is being
planned, the same issues must be considered (e.g. integrated services, interoperable

37. Reflection Of Fanny And Zooey
The book Franny and Zooey is about a girl named Franny going through a mental
breakdown and her older brother Zooey helping her through it. Franny and Zooey
have two older brothers named Buddy and Seymour, who is deceased, that
influenced their lives greatly. Seymour and Buddy s teachings of religion, education
and society lead up to Franny s dissatisfaction, crisis, and the resolution to her
breakdown. Franny is at home on her parents couch crying, not eating and sleeping.
Franny is having a mental breakdown because she is being confronted with the
ugliness of the world. Franny was young when Seymour died and Buddy stopped
coming around and she only remembers the ideas she was taught as a child. We re

Seymour and Buddy taught Franny the art of Zen and no knowledge . Seymour
and Buddy didn t want Franny to grow up seeking knowledge but to let knowledge
seek her. They also taught Franny buddhist ideas that say s one must clear their
head of already taught ideas in order to gain wisdom. Franny tried to gain wisdom
through the Jesus Prayer like others gain knowledge. Zooey told Franny that the
path to Buddhist no knowledge is letting go of your personal ego and selfish
concerns to find wisdom. No knowledge isn t something you find it just happens.
Franny found the Jesus Prayer in Seymour s old room but has no one to guide her
through it. She keeps reciting the Jesus Prayer to herself because she is trying to
connect with Jesus to find wisdom. By continuously saying the Jesus Prayer one
is supposed to become blessed with Christ Consciousness and can see God, In
Franny s words. You get to see God. Something happens in some absolutely
nonphysical part of the heart where the Hindus say that Atman resides, if you ever

s lectures that you do not only connect with Jesus but with all people because Jesus
lives inside of you. The Jesus prayer is more about love than religion. Zooey tells
Franny to focus on herself and do the best she can as an actress. I used to hate

38. The Effect Of Temperature On Our Cognition
Introduction
When a person describes someone, as being warm one understands it as a person
who is friendly and not as someone who is physically warm. Using temperature as a
way to describe a person has been understood as a metaphor, however studies have
revealed that there is a connection between the association of warmth and feelings of
social belonging (Ijzerman et al., 2012).
The belief that our physical world has an influence on our cognition is called the
embodiment theory (Chen, Poon Dewell, 2014). In this theory it is believed that our
surroundings shape of psychological feelings (Chen et al., 2014). Hence, why we use
temperature as a way to expressing feelings. The following studies have conducted

Participants were divided into two different groups and would have two different
food drink types. They were then led to a computer where they would play a ball
tossing exercise game. The participants believed that they were playing with two
other players online, however the game was programmed with no real players. One
group was only passed the ball twice in 30 throws while the other group received the
ball frequently. Finally, the participants were handed a survey that measured which
foods they desired more and it was found that the socially excluded group desired
warm food (Zhong Leonardelli, 2008).
The following study read these results and hypothesized that perhaps a person

This study followed the exact same procedure as the ball tossing game Zhong and
Leonardelli (2008) presented, however the participants temperature would be
recorded this time. For this experiment 41 participants were recruited from VU
University. The participants were also divided into two groups where one would be
thrown the ball only twice and the other an evenly distributed amount of times. A
device that was located on their index finger measured all participants temperature
continuously, which along the way revealed that the participants body temperature
went down in the exclusion group (Ijzerman et al., 2012).
From Ijzerman et al.(2012) observations they hypothesized that if warmth was

Ballet played an enormous role in this beautiful artistic story of The Swan, for the
very simple reason that every movement and every gesture signifies a different
experience for someone who is opening up your mind, and eyes that they re
attempting to escape death. The ballet is not about a ballerina being able to transform
herself into a swan, but about death, with the swan simply being a metaphor for that.
Watching Svetlana Zakharova performing The Swan she really used a combination of
masterful technique with expressiveness. It was like she was proving that dancecould

AESOP AND ITS HISTORY
Aesop was established in Melbourne in 1987 with a quest to create a range of
superlative products for the skin, hair and body. The company is committed to using
both plant based and laboratory made ingredients of the highest quality and proven
efficacy particularly those with the greatest anti oxidant properties.
The company was started by a hairdresser Dennis Paphitis who used to work in a
salon. Product wise he started adding essential oils to the commercial hair color, as
the smell of ammonia is quiet overwhelming his clients responded well to these less
aggressive aromas. He then took this up as a passion and started understanding these
ingredients and started working with a chemist on a small range of hair products.
Eventually the hair product extended to a hand and body product category and finally
skin care.
Dennis felt this was an opportunity that was approaching his way. Finally in 1996 he
quit the salon and began his extensive research and development in the field of
cosmetics. He felt that the marketing of his product was limited just to the salon.
The next few years he along with the chemist intensely spent time setting up a
foundation for a product line and development. All this was done
43. Cultural Differences Argument Analysis
Cultural Ethical Relativism is a theory that is used to explain differences among
cultures, and thus their moral codes. According to cultural relativists, different
cultures have different moral codes, and there is no objective truth in ethics. They
believe there is no independent standard that can be used to judge one s custom as
better than another s. In his article entitled The Challenge of Cultural Relativism,
James Rachels offers his argument against the theory of Cultural Relativism by
proving the Cultural Differences Argument is unsound and invalid. Further in his
article, Rachels reasons against the claims made by cultural relativists, and he argues
there are common values shared by all cultures and there exists an independent
standard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the Cultural Relativism is correct, then each culture will have total freedom in
which its people can do whatever they want within their society because what is right
is determined by the moral code of that society, and we cannot judge them since there
is no independent standard that can be used to judge one s custom. For example, in
the late 19th century in the Southern United States, despite the passages of the 13th,
14th, and 15th Amendment had abolished slavery and made African Americans
citizens, the majority of White Americans still perceived the Negroes as inferior.
Within the society in the South, the culture determined it was right that whites were
superior over blacks and American Whites could do whatever they pleased to the
African Americans. Consequently, the violent actions White Americans had
committed against the Negroes, such as murdering, lynching and preventing blacks to
vote, were culturally acceptable in the South. If the Cultural Ethical Relativism is
right, then what these whites had done is justified as correct and they did not commit
any moral mistakes since their culture permitted such a

Delta s attempted method of dissolution would have ultimately lost because of two
factors: 1) lack of understanding of the Spanish culture and preference, as well as, 2)
their lack of restaurant experience. Further, it would decrease the chances of future
successes in Spain since their dissolution strategy will certainly be known across
many industries and political networks. This would make Delta s ability to establish
new contacts, find and purchase property, apply for a food license, hiring qualified
local managers, gaining new customers and opening new stores a difficult and costly
undertaking.
As stated by Costas, Delta has insufficient capital for its planned expansion (BRS
p.12) which is required if it was to venture on its own in Spain. No longer having a
partner, Delta would be required to put up 100% of the costs necessary to expand the
business, rather than the 50% previously required. Without the contacts Terralumen
has, these costs would likely rise as well. The real estate market requires extensive
knowledge, and without this knowledge, they will likely pay a large premium.

47. Different Depressive Disorders
DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS
Introduction:
Major depressive disorder is characterized by a myriad of symptoms that interferes
with a person s daily activities including ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy
once pleasurable activities. Major depression is a debilitating disease and prevents a
person from being functional socially and professionally.
Major depressive disorder is known to have significant potential morbidity and
mortality, and contributes to suicide, incidences and adverse outcomes of medical
illness, disruption in interpersonal relationships, substance abuse, and loss of work
time. With appropriate treatment, most of the patients with major depressive disorder
can achieve a significant improvement in symptoms.
Epidemiology
30 44 years are mostly likely age for depression. While major depressive disorder can
develop at any age, the median age at onset is 32.
Major depressive disorder is more prevalent in women than in men. Women are 70 %
more likely to develop MDD than men
Major Depressive Disorder is one of the leading causes of disability in the U.S. for
ages 15 44.
According to data provided by National institute of mental health, Major depressive
disorder affects approximately 14.8 million American adults, or about 6.7 percent
of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year (12 month prevalence) of
which 30.4 % (i.e. 2% of Adult population in U.S. ) is classified severe.

48. The Flaws Of The Titanic And The Titanic
Despite how entertaining the film Titanic actually is, it has many flaws that can be
pointed out. Titanic is a love story between a woman of the upper class and a man
of the lower class. Throughout the movie they face the difficulties of Jack (Lower
class man) not being high enough stature to please the family of Rose (upper class
woman) while they sail through the ocean on a luxurious cruise ship. As the Titanic
sinks the film shows the two being together and going through the catastrophe that is
the final hours on the Titanic. In the movie, Titanic, director James Cameronused a
few important actual events that occurred in the history of The Titanic. However,
there are some things that were only added for detail, entertainment, and action in
film. Real life survivors from the ship s sinking report what is valid and incorrect in
the movie.
Many things in the movie, Titanic, actually happened in the actual event. One
similarity is when The Titanic s band continued to play as the ship went under. The
lead violinist realized the chaos around him and started playing, soon to be joined
by his band members. An article on the Titanic says, After the ship struck an
iceberg, Wallace Hartley assembled his eight man band, and they eventually
ended up on the Boat Deck near the entrance to the Grand Staircase. There, they
played ragtime and waltzes. ( Questioning The Story ). This is reported by
survivors to be a valid occurrence in the sinking of the Titanic. Another similarity
between the movie and actual event is when ice landed on the main deck of the
Titanic. When the ship hit the iceberg, huge pieces of ice fell onto the main deck.
A story on the Titanic says, Survivor William Lucas reported seeing about a couple
of tons of ice on the fore well [deck] on the starboard side of the ship. ( Questioning
The Story ). Many people report seeing this incident happen that were aboard the
Titanic. The Titanic movie has many similarities to the actual event.
The movie Titanic although, had quite a few differences from the actual event. The
first difference is how the director, James Cameron, made the movie primarily based
around Jack and Rose. These were not real people on board the Titanic. They are

50. Alternative Future Energy Storage And Conversion Systems
Metal air batteries have been intensively explored as an alternative future energy
storage and conversion systems owing to their intrinsically high energy and power
densities, the relatively mature research on air electrode, and cost effective
composition of non noble fuel electrode, as well as in response to the high energy
demand for portable devices and electric vehicles even stationary power plants [1
5]. Of late, research into the metal air techniques has been focused on Zn air
(~1,000 Wh kg 1), Li air (~13,000 Wh kg 1), and Ge air (~1,500 Wh kg 1) batteries
because of its very high specific energy and energy density with open cell air
cathode structure [3 6]. With these devices, however, the electrochemical energy
could be stored in the stationary part as form of sacrificial metal anode. This distinct
architecture would make a limitation approach for large scale commercialization
unless the anode can provide good electrochemical reversibility and high cyclic
durability.
As a feasible alternative to continuous operation, recently, a high temperature liquid
metal air energy storage cell (LMAESC) in conjunction with a solid oxide electrolyte
has been investigated applying post transition metals such as In [7], Sn [7 17], Sb
[18 25], Pb [7], and Bi [12] as a sacrificial electrode, so called liquid metal anode
(LMA). Since these liquid metals has relatively low melting point, it can improve the
anode polarization by incorporating liquid wetting materials to spread on the
51. A Twentieth Century War Was Just and a Holy War Essay
A Twentieth Century War Was Just and a Holy War
On 2nd September 1939, Britain and France declared war on Germany. Wars are
started for many reasons, but can they ever be justified? This essay will analyse
whether the factors causing the Second World War were justified.
Augstine, a Christian leader in the Middle Ages, devised the Just WarTheory. The
Christian thinker Thomas Aquinas then adapted this theory, which then formed the
basis of the UN conditions for a just war. To assess whether a war is justified the
Just War Theory criteria need to be fulfilled. They0 and are shown below:
1.) There must be a just cause. Those attacked must have committed some fault.
2.) The war must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You must only use enough force to achieve your objectives. As far as possible, only
military people, and not civilians, must be involved.
The first criterion is that of a just cause. In this case, it can be considered that Hitler s
invasion of Czechoslovakia and Poland meets this criterion. Britain saw these
invasions not only as a threat to those countries but to the rest of Europe and Britain
itself.
Secondly, the war must be started and controlled by a competent and legal authority,
suitably the British government. This implies that wars started by small groups or
factions with self interest are unjust and the authority of the government ids required
because the whole country is involved. Parliament should approve it because
parliament is representing the people.
The war must also be right intention, in this case to avoid the greed and evil nature
of Hitler and to promote the fair, democratic rule of Britain and France.
The fourth criterion is that the war must be a last resort; it can be argued that
Britain and France tried the Policy of Appeasement. A policy when they stood back
and didn t do anything. but these methods of averting the war had failed and it
became obvious that if they didn t act, Hitler would take over France and in possibly
eventually Britain.
In addition, there must be a reasonable probability of success. This is
