[TMMC Healthcare] Application of advanced techniques in disc herniation surgery
1. APPLICATION OF ADVANCED
TECHNIQUES IN DISC HERNIATION
SURGERY
The surgeons at the department of Spinal Surgery, Tam Tri Sai Gon General Hospital (a member of
TMMC Healthcare), along with a professional medical team, successfully performed a disc herniation
surgery on a patient diagnosed with chronic back pain using advanced techniques currently applied
throughout Vietnam.
The patient was admitted in critical condition
In the morning, Oct 9th, 2014, 8:40 am, patient H.H.T( born in 1958, resident of Hoc Mon Province,
HCMC) was admitted in critical condition. He had been suffering from chronic back pain for years
and receiving treatments at various hospitals but the condition remained unchanged and worsened
in time. After the admission, the medical team at Tam Tri Sai Gon General Hospital dedicated their
time to examine the patient’s condition and later on he was diagnosed with disc herniation (L4/L5).
The patient then underwent a surgery.
Dr. Nguyen Tai Chanh – General Manager of Tam Tri Sai Gon
General Hospital said: “Spinal Disc Herniation is a medical
condition in which there is a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of
an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion to bulge
out. The pain shall subside when the patient is lying on his/her
side and increase when he/she is coughing, defecating or
pressing the joint. If the condition is severe, the pain may
spread to the bottom and thighs, thus may even lead to
paralysis.
The causes of disc herniation include various external risk
factors like occupational hazards, excessive use of the back
muscles, trauma etc. The picture illustrates that the patient is
in critical condition.”
Oct 11th, 2014, at 11:10 am, the spine specialists at Tam Tri
Sai Gon General Hospital (TMMC Healthcare) successfully performed a disc herniation surgery on
Mr. T. After the surgery, the patient was sober, his incision was dry and he hardly experienced any
numbness along his legs. The surgery was carefully monitored by the medical team and General
Manager at Tam Tri Sai Gon General Hospital.
