SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
Experience in FEED studies, HAZID, HAZOP for detail design, installation and
commissioning of Integrated, fire & gas detection / explosion, loss prevention and damage
limitation systems. Interpreting formal risk assessment / hazard analysis studies, to provide
quantified design data, upon which Fire Protection Philosophies and overall design scope
may be developed. Detail design and commissioning experience on a range of process
assets, including Oil & Gas, LNG, petrochemical, fine chemical, polymer and solvent
production plant. Engaged in a consultant capacity and as lead discipline engineer in the

2008-2012 Safety Lead, contracted to set up a new project office in the UK to provide
engineering support to expanding gas production, gathering and process
facilities. Located in the Algerian Sahara. Clients were a joint venture

CHANNEL TUNNEL (TML)
1990 Designed and field supervised, modifications agreed with UK, HSE, on
auto foam deluge and gaseous fire suppression systems, protecting
defined fire hazards on marine and land drive T.B.Ms (Tunnel boring
machines) The object being to secure personnel escape routes from the
cutting head.
Involved in design, inspection and testing of modifications to existing
systems underground, plus presentations to HSE initiated, emergency
procedure planning meetings.
CHUBB NATIONAL FOAM / BRIT AEROSPACE
1989 - 1990 Commissioning of auto foam deluge and general fire suppression
systems for Saudi Air Force, protecting new air base ground facilities, in
preparation for additional fighter aircraft, plus protection of in-shelter,
refuelling and rearming systems.
UNIMECS / VOEST ALPINE, OILFIELD DIVISION, LIBYA
1986 - 1989 Deployed with AGOCO Benghazi, Libya, as a loss control consultant,
co-ordinating on and off-shore field surveys, defining scopes of work to
improve ageing fire and gas suppression / detection systems, on oil / gas
pipeline, plant, product storage and Tobruk marine tanker terminal.
Desert production oilfields were also upgraded, including Sarir, Messla,
Nafoora and Beda. Prepared QRA and risk assessment reports, prior to
project budget meetings with Libyan National Oil Corp.
Produced tender packages and conducted technical evaluation of the
resulting tender returns, submitted by international contracting companies.
Development of project route maps and company procedures were generally
based on BP recommended practices current at the time.
ETE FIRE SYSTEMS, SAUDI ARABIA
1984 - 1986 Design, Installation and commissioning engineer on various projects,
ARAMCO Offshore for ZULUF GOSPS 3/4, plus MARJAN and
SAFANIYA fields, systems included CO2 systems, foam deluge, water

spray protection, in both design engineering and commissioning
capacities (Specialising in large LNG plant, loss control facilities).
Other projects included fixed foam systems, protecting product storage
tanks and refinery process for ARABIAN OIL CO. (AOC) at Al Khafchi,
ARAMCO facilities at Rastanura, Juayma and Yanbu.
FIRE PROTECTION GROUP, AL KHOBAR, SAUDI ARABIA
1982 – 1984 Chief Design Engineer responsible for preparation of tenders,
specifications, design co-ordination, through to commissioning and
installation hand over testing.
Seconded to ARAMCO by ANSUL USA, to specify Foam, CO2, Halon
and fixed dry chemical fire protection systems to NFPA standards,
both on and offshore for oil and gas production, storage, refinery and
marine loading facilities. Other projects involved design and
commissioning activities support for Pyrotronics and GRINNEL.
BP SULLOM VOE, SHETLANDS
1977 - 1981 Fire & Gas Instrument Engineer. Supervision and handover acceptance
of fire detection/suppression systems during commissioning and function
tests, interfacing fire systems into process control logic and ESD systems.
Also involved offshore work, to troubleshoot commissioning faults on
NINION
C, fire detection and suppression systems.
