Social Rules For Dating
The social rules for dating have drastically changed over the years. In today s society, dating has
lost all of its meaning and has been overruled by the term hooking up . Social media and texting
have taken over the means of communicating face to face and made our generation socially
awkward. Since the arrival of new technologies and the changing definitions of traditional dating,
dating has become a more loosely used term. According to The History of Dating , between the
timeframe of 1900 and 1910 was the start of the dating era. As mentioned in the History of Dating,
men would address young women, who they were interested in, by stopping by their house for a
visit. The parents of the woman would oversee the couple s visitation and... Show more content on

Essay about Arguments for Open Adoption Records
For those who are a part of the adoption world one of the most hotly debated issues is whether
birth records should be open or closed to adoptees. With this issue comes strong feelings on both
sides. In most states adoption records are fully sealed and inaccessible, unless the adoptee
petitions the court. In 16 states these records are fully or partially available upon request with no
court involvement, and also may depend upon when you were born. In a few states records are
completely prohibited and the adoptee will never have any access to them. Alaska and Kansas
have always made original birth records available.
As an adoptee, I feel that all adoption records should be open. I believe that this can only strengthen

Adoption in America been ruled by a stigma. For much too long, those who could not have
children, unwed mothers, and the children born out of wedlock have been shamed and
humiliated. I believe it is time for these supposedly disgraceful ideas to go by the wayside, and we
begin hold onto the idea that all families are beautiful things, no matter how they are composed or
how they came about. There is no shame in being an infertile couple, an unwed mother, or a child
with unwed parents.
Two facets comprise this issue: the social and the legal. Proposed social impacts of open records
are the increase or decrease of abortions and adoptions, birth parents right to privacy, the forcing
of unwanted relationships with adoptee children, and the undermining of the integrity of the
adoptive family. Proposed legal impacts of open records are the violation of privacy to the family,
right of reproductive privacy, and a birth a mother s equal rights with a father s (because of more
birth mother s names being provided in comparison to father s names).
Those in opposition to open records say that it will increase abortions and decrease adoption
because abortion is confidential and adoption is not. However, it has been determined that this is
not the case. In fact, there is a strong correlation between open records, decreased abortions and
increased adoptions. It appears, that in states that opened adoption records

Literary Elements In The Tale Tell Heart By Edger Allen Poe
McBride, Wayne 16 Nov. 2017 Robinson Eng. 101 The short story the Tale Tell Heart, Edger
Allen Poe uses many literary elements to show the theme of the story. Some of the literary
elements that Poe uses are first person narrator, interior monologue, stream of consciousness,
and cosmic irony. With these elements Poe displays the theme of the story which is, we are
afraid of the things we don t understand and a guilty conscience will win out in the end. First
person narration is throughout this story by using tense language as if he was telling you this in
person. By using this element of first person narration it is able appeal more to the reader in an
emotional way. The reader feels as if the protagonist is personally telling them the story about
the old man. In the first paragraph Poe addresses the audience as if a question had just been
asked to the protagonist if he was mad, The Protagonist responds with this the first paragraph of
the story. True nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say
that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not dulled them. Above all
was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many
things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell
you the whole story. (41) The way Poe has the Protagonist exclaim that his is indeed not mad, is
using emotional appeal to the reader. Interior monologue all throughout the story, this is mostly
how the narrator speaks to the audience. By using interior monologue Poe uses logical appeal to
show why the Protagonist wanted to kill the old man. The Protagonist states that the old man
has never done anything to him and has always been pleasant to be around, it is the old man s eye,
his blind eye that the Protagonist is afraid of. We know this because of what the Protagonist says in
the second paragraph, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me
insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a
vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by
degrees very gradually I

Chromatography Of Food Dyes Lab Report
Chromatography of Food Dye Chem 180 DL3 Abstract: The goal of this experiment was to use
different dyes to determine the Rf value. Chromatography is done to determine the presence of a
mixture in a substance. In this experiment different dyes were used such as McCormick food
coloring, M amp;M s, Kool Aid, and the dyes that came with the lab kit. Experiment and
Observation: In this experiment a 50mL beaker was filled with luke warm water and a pinch of
salt water was dissolved in it and set aside. A line was drawn with pencil 1 cm from the bottom
of the paper and then the line was separated with cross lines 1.5cm apart on two sheets of

Ethnic Identity and African Americans Essay
Ethnic Identity and African Americans
Ethnic Identity
Ethnic identity is the sum total of group member feelings about those values, symbols, and
common histories that identify them as a distinct group (Smith 1991). Development of ethnic
identity is important because it helps one to come to terms with their ethnic membership as a
prominent reference group and significant part of an individuals overall identity. Ethnic reference
group refers to an individuals psychological relatedness to groups (Smith 1991). These reference
groups help adolescents sense, reflect and see things from the point of their ethnic groups in which
they actively participate or seek to participate.

significant differences that may exist in preparation of African American adolescent, at the level of
rearing family practices and in schools (1990). That is, schools continue to reflect historical values
that deal with racial stereotypes and prejudice and beliefs. At the same time there are families trying
to avoid and make light out of such situations. These families and communities continue to show
constancy by instilling their own beliefs and values through child rearing which maybe different
from Caucasian Americas.
Identity and ethnicity as adolescent issues
Identity has been defined in many ways. It is the concept used to describe an individual s sense of
who he or she is (Dashefsky and Shapiro, 1976). Changes in identity occur throughout the life cycle,
however, the changes in identity are usually most notable during adolescence. Integrating a positive
sense of ethnic identity into one s overall personal identity is an important task of late adolescence
(Steinberg, 1996).
Ethnic identity has been defined as the aspect of one s sense of identity concerning ancestry or
racial group membership (Steinberg, 1996). Ethnic identity development is an essential human
need because it provides a sense of belonging and historical continuity.

Formative Reflective Assessment
1.What does formative assessment involve in practice and what are the implications for teachers?
Strategies to implement formative assessment
Role of teacher / Impact on planning
Actively involving students and parents
Possible challenges or barriers of assessment use
Focus questions: Teachers are responsible for creating a set of questions in a specific order which
is used as a tool for evaluating understanding checklist. The teacher initiates the questions with
simple concepts and steadily move towards a complex level, whereas students give answers when
asked individually by the teacher or as a class where visual cue indicates their answer. After this
activity students are assessed based on the answer given against the questions.
A teacher must plan the order of questions in which they ll be asked as well as nature of the
content. It is observed that most of the teachers use constructive approach i e starting from simple
questions or concepts to more abstract questions. The primary role of a teacher is to analyse the
understanding level of a student. This is usually carried out by students response and later examine
it with follow up questions.
Students can actively participate in it through the teacher s technique of manipulating the
answering methodology. For example, students are offered multiple choices of answers and then
asked to give a signal or move based on his selected answer. By doing this activity whole class can
be assessed and later can be grouped based

Persuasive Essay On Animal Rights
Mahatma Gandhi once said, The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the
way its animals are treated. The social issue of animal rights first arose in the 1970s; since then the
animal rights movement has gained momentum and a considerable amount of followers Animal
Rights. Organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
) hold demonstrations
and protests in the streets and outside businesses to denounce the maltreatment of animals. There
are two sides on this issue, those who believe that the life of an animal is inferior to that of a
human s and those who deem that animals deserve to have a life free of human interruption What
Are Animal Rights. Without animal rights, our society can be deemed unfettered by empathy and
restrained by immoral values.
To begin with, why support animal rights? Some people are not joining the animal rights
movement frankly because they are not informed and up to date with the controversy. The
general public is aware of the animal testing taking place in labs daily. Adopting this strategy was
an effortless decision as it produced results and did not put the lives of other humans in danger.
However, the public isn t aware that the results provided aren t always guaranteed to be reliable
and that animals sometimes suffer slow, painful deaths as a result of these experiments. Our society
holds gruesome double standards, we would not dare think about holding experiments on our loved
ones, so why do we

Romero Britto Research Paper
Romero Britto is a twentieth and twenty first century pop artist who was born in Recife, Brazil
on October 6, 1963. He is the seventh child of nine and he is currently married to Cheryl Britto
with a son named Brendan. Romero lived an adequate life with his brothers and sister as a child
and was first introduced to art when he was just a young child. He did not capture the full
understanding of becoming an artist for a career until the day his older brother showed him
books that were about famous artists such as Toulouse Launtrec. Britto became inspired and
began copying these fine art pieces from the books the next day. Originally, Britto embraced art
to escape from the real world even through his early twenties when he was working to get into
law school. He of course eventually dropped out of law school to study art in Europe. Britto
traveled to Paris where he was introduced to the works and artistic techniques of Matisse and
Picasso. Romero has explored with many media including watercolor, pen and ink, serigraphy,

The Death Of Two ( The Great Gatsby )
The death of two (The Great Gatsby)
The auburn hued leaves crunched with every miserable footstep. They scattered the ground in a
haphazard manner, not dissimilar to the state of the thoughts swirling through the mind of the lone
man, disconsolate and determined to regain a semblance of balance in his life. He strode
purposefully towards his vengeful destination. With his worn out greased overalls and his intrinsic
grey flat cap, he passed through the elaborate, elite fields of West Egg, also known as the land of
new money , embarking towards this mansion.
Located at the very end of West Egg, bordering the sound, rested the extravagant white mansion.
Stealthily, he moved towards his target, Jay Gatsby. For all George Wilson was concerned, he had
been contemplating whether or not this man was responsible for the tragic death of his beloved
wife, Myrtle. He walked further: to within the rear of the luxurious pearl white mansion. An old
piano, sat as to enamel Gatsby s supposedly elite position. Gatsby s abode was embellished with
unique russet velvety walls and glazed coffee wooden floorboards. After Wilson s entrance, via an
unlocked rear door, he imagined himself taking a drink with his girl in such a fine room, but that
possibility did not exist. This man named Gatsby had ruined it all for him.
George was a simple kind of guy. He always dreamed of living in West Egg with his wife; he
wanted the best for Myrtle. Wilson removed a crystal clear glass from a coffee table

The Prevelence of Corruption in Various Facets of Today s...
Corruption refers to the use of public goods or power for the benefit of an individual or a group of
people. Referring to what the definition says, a corruption situation could occur in an organization
that is actively handling money, and the people who are responsible of managing it within the
institution take advantage of it for personal purposes. Corruptionis a problem that occurs worldwide
but it is more common in some countries than in others. It is more likely to happen in poorer
countries.

However, in the administration department there are some people whose interests go beyond the
interest of the organization and want to make a profit from the money they receive. There are three
possible ways of corruption within this department. First of all, the corrupt people can take the
money away directly from the budget of the organization. However, they could get caught easily in
this situation because when the others departments take a look at the funds statement, they will
realize that some money is missing.
Secondly, they could negotiate with some of the companies that offer services to the organization.
For example, if there is an event and a certain company is supposed to rent the audio system,
which cost $3000 there could be a negotiation between the corrupt people in our organization and
the people from the company which offers the service so they inflate the cost from $3000 to $6000
and then divide the surplus of $3000 in exact parts between the two parties.
Besides, the third way of corruption could arise in the creation of companies by the members of
the administration department. In this case they will be the owners of the companies that offer
services to the organization. The problem that could happen here is that they are going to have the
power to control the bills so if certain service cost $1000 in the market, they can easily charge the
same service for more money. Since they handle

Because of schema less nature of NoSQL data models, fine grained data access controls at the

Authorization setting of some of NoSQL database is allowed by all authenticators, which means

Honors US History I: Summer Reading Assignment Chapter Summary Questions Preface: The
Generation 1. According to Ellis s preface, explain what is so phenomenal about the founding of
the United States? One reason why the founding of the US is so phenomenal is because the
founding fathers were able to create a nation with a government, out of people who were against
any type of political power (due to all previous corrupted rulers). There were also many people
who were against the idea of a band of national advocates. (Ellis 9). People divided and scattered

4. Evaluate some of the problems that plagued the United States making it difficult to build a
nation? In your opinion, which problem was most pressing? Explain. One problem was that no man
had ever created a republican government with a country as large as the US; so no higher
authorities had faith in the creation of this republican nation. Another apparent obstacle was that the
legacy of the Revolution and the Declaration of Independence contradicted with the establishment
of governmental authority. Furthermore, the Revolution encouraged people to rebel authority.
Also, the states in the new nation did not share a history in the past and did not come together
(other than wars). Lastly, there were many black peoples growing rapidly amongst racist whites.
In my opinion, the contradiction between the legacy of the Revolution and building a nation with
an authority strikes as the most pressing because the people the people as a whole become angry
and stubborn when something they have fought/are fighting for is crushed. Chapter 1: The Duel 5.

The Effect Of The Halo Effect
According to social psychologists, 30 seconds is how long it takes for someone meeting you for
the first time to form a list of determinations about your character and abilities. In 30 seconds,
people form impressions of you based almost entirely on what they see your clothes, hairstyle,
smile, how you carry yourself, and the rest of your nonverbal communications. Appearances do
count. These quick impressions can also be lasting ones. Psychologists call it the halo effect. (
Appearances and First, 2011) The Halo Effect is the idea that global evaluations about a person
(e.g. she is likeable) bleed over into judgements about their specific traits (e.g. she is intelligent).
It was deemed the halo effect because our perception of others also creates a perception of a halo
above their heads. People often only perceive what they want to perceive. An example of this
affect is the obsession that some people have with celebrities. Because most Hollywood stars are
attractive, we often associate other likable traits with them such as friendliness and intelligence. An
experiment done by two professors at The University of Virginia, Richard Nisbett and Timothy
Wilson, shows the effects of the halo effect. Nisbett and Wilson s experiment aimed to address and
find an answer to the question regarding people s awareness of the halo effect. The researchers
believe that people have little awareness of the nature of the halo effect, and that it influences their
judgments and

Populist Party Essay
The Populist Party, also known as the people s party, was a third party political option in the

us to be able to analyze the traps so we are not influenced during the decision process. It can also
help us to improve our decision making skills. 73 was my score. The quiz evaluation stated the

The groupthink trap is a good trap to explain a time when I was trapped in the decision making
process. The groupthink trap is when majority of the group supports an idea and you do not
speak up even though you do not agree with the idea (LaForce, 2014). You either are not
confident enough to think you are right, or you do not want to cause a disagreement or conflict
(LaForce, 2014). My example: I was in a meeting with people who are a much higher up then me
and two of those people I do not feel confident around. Actually, one of those people I consider a
bully. The team was trying to come up with a solution to a problem. I can see that not everyone
agrees with the decision but yet, they are not speaking up. I too did not want to speak up,
because I did not want to cause conflict with the two people I mentioned above. I could see the
problem was not well defined, and it did not appear the decision made was not the accurate
solution for the real problem. In this case, I did not speak up, but since that meeting I have
realized that I was right to speak up. Unfortunately, at that time, I lacked the confidents to speak
up, but now I do. When I see others wanting to speak up, or are confused, not on the same page,
etc., I make a point to say something. In the end, there are times I caused conflict, but I allow our
customers to feel more conformable and I know what I did was right, and that conflict was worth it.
I have since learned when to pick my battles, when to take things off line, how to approach different
situations depending on the

Depression In Elie Wiesel s Night
Night EssayJazmin Rosas English 3rd hr
In the book night there is a lot of things things that are not talked about, but there is a lot of
things that are talked about. For instance starvation, Elie talked a lot about starvation. They
would only get a peice of bread and a bowl of really bad soup. Everybody starved in the camp.
Elie talked a lot about how him and his father starved. How they would steal bread sometimes to
survive. What was not talked about a lot was depression. Depression was common in the Holocaust.
The place they were in in general was depressing. Elie would have a reason to be depressed with

Walmart Disaster Recovery Plan
Although there was high sensitive nature of work at GetSmart there should have still been a
backup system or a recovery policy to prevent data from being lost. Since this policy was in
place for the last three years and was going well until this disaster, there should have been a plan
to be prepared. Being on the committee with many other employees I think it is important for us
to come up with a way to have all files have a backup system in case of a storm or any other
situation that may have all data to be lost. New Policies As technology grows, it makes it easier

The backup copy will be kept on a flash drive and will only be used in case of a disaster. A disaster
recovery plan is used when a company needs to recover sensitive information if a system crashed
and data was lost. My colleagues and I had to decide how often we should backup files and after
doing some research, we came to a conclusion to backup data once a day due to the company s
sensitive data and operations so all information will be saved. If any changes are made to the
company such as software updates the disaster recovery plan should be updated as well so it can
be updated. Every six months the plan will be tested to make sure it is working properly and
effectively. We decided that only authorized employees will have access to critical files to and to
backup data. Next time a disaster occurs the Company will be prepared and not have information
lost because all files will be on a flash drive and be updated once a day. We took into
consideration other scenarios happening such as cyber attacks and decided to invest in an anti
hacking system and firewalls to make sure all information is

We exist in a generation where young adults are held to higher standards than ever before.

How Does Barbie Affect Society
Barbie s Effect on Society
Was Barbie s actual purpose to simply be an innocent toy for kids or was it really to create an
unrealistic expectation for girls? Barbie exploded with popularity and developed an unhealthy
body image for young girls. From her tiny waist to her seemingly perfect lifestyle, it definitely
looked like Barbie had it all. While there being many negative attributes to the doll, she opened
the idea that girls do not need to settle for being simply a generic housewife. Barbie s original
design was from a German comic strip character named Lilli. A woman named Ruth Handlercame

Studies have shown that girls who are only six years old and play with Barbies consume less food
than girls who play with more realistic dolls.
The doll also influenced young girls lives in a materialistic way within only a short period of
time after she was released. Barbie s wardrobe was extensive, perfectly accessorized, and updated

Night By Elie Wiesel Quote Analysis
Hunger can cause the human body to make false conclusions that it would never feel on a full
stomach. In Night, Elie Wiesel proves this point numerous times. Elie, as well as other characters,
lose sight of their ethics due to human nature s need for food. During the Holocaust, the prisoners
in the concentration camps risk their lives for an extra crust of bread or ration of soup. The
captives in the Holocaust acclimate to their surroundings and do anything they can for food. A
battle to death was almost customary for extra food. The need for energy can cause a human to
make ignorant decisions, thus allowing for a loss of their personal values. Scientifically, it has been
proven that one should not make long term decisions while hungry.... Show more content on

Comparing Leonardo Da Vinci with Michelangelo
Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti were, and still are considered to be two of the
greatest minds, even geniuses of the Renaissance. But which one is more of a genius than the

Pier has sex with a woman called Catarina, which resulted in her pregnancy. For a believed reason
that Catarina was the Daughter of a farmer, they never got married. Ser Pier later married another
woman, when he was 25, which is the time Leonardo was born. As for Michelangelo, he was born

During both the Elizabethan Era and King Henry s reign the political and religious systems of
society were corrupt. In the play Hamlet, there is clear evidence of corruption and weakening of
the state under Claudius s rule. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark depicts Shakespeare
s intellectual ability of not only reflecting political and religious norms, but also of commenting
on how political and religious power can lead to corruption within humanity. In A Man for All
Seasons, the people of England let society and political leaders dictate their morals and values.
The characters Wolsey, Cromwell, and the Pope are political/religious leaders that forsake their
conscience, which means becoming corrupted. During these era s, the Common Man followed
their Kings and Queens and if the political officials of England are corrupted, society will follow,
leading to a route of destruction. Therefore, this affects how individuals make decisions according
to society s political and religious norms because if society s norms become corrupted then so do
the decisions made by individuals. For example, in A Man for All Seasons, the Common Man liked
and supported Thomas More however, they decided to remain silent, which is why they are also
indirectly responsible for More s death. This displays that in a corrupted society individuals are
likely to make decisions that are unknowingly corrupt just to fit society s

A Transitional Period of the Roaring 20 s in The Great Gatsby
The Roaring 20 s was a transitional period for the United States: New ideas, technologies, and
taste caused an immense shift in popular culture. The brassy flappers came into play and fueled
society s obsession with social class. Big businesses were bringing in money that fed the nation s
greed, and the combination of obsession with social class and greed unfortunately led to corruption
in the nation. In The Great Gatsby, a tragic love story, F. Scott Fitzgeralduses historical allusions to
depict the greed, obsession with social class, and the corruption that erected during the 1920 s.
A major purpose for Fitzgerald s use of historical allusions is to provide familiarity that a reader
can relate to. The Plaza Hotel is universally known as one of the most luxurious hotels in the
nation; guests find this luxury hotel to be a lavish oasis amid thriving city life .(The Plaza 1).
This is a notable detail because it set a positive expectation for the setting: it is associated with
wealth and power. When Gatsby, Tom, Daisy, and Jordan arrive to the hotel it is uncomfortably
hot, and there is a wedding going on in the lobby (Fitzgerald 132). The heat has the effect of
contradicting what a reader would expect from such a wealthy hotel, and adding to the suspense
that is bound to break the balance between Gatsby and Tom at any point. The wedding in the lobby
also has a contradicting effect because while the couple is getting married and excited for the rest

The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics
The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a
semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early
eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or
purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and
barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits
and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals,
and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as
blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish
appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church
deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the
Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some
of the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brief Personal Statement
I thrive on gaining knowledge. Even now, as a non traditional student and busy mother to two
young children, learning excites me. As an 18 year old in Germany, I began a 10 year career as a
military analyst that honed my ability to think critically, pay attention to detail, and visualize
holistic solutions to unique problems. However, I spent my free time riding a bike along The
Rhine searching for a quiet space to settle in with the wisdom of books such as The Art of
Happiness and The Elegant Universe. There, on those riverbanks, I discovered within myself an
innate curiosity of the mind and the fundamental nature of the world.
Subsequent experiences during my tours in Afghanistan, and other encounters with loss, firmly
cemented my resolve to help ease human suffering. Loss, and so grief of some variation, is an
inevitable consequence of human experience. I saw it s impact regularly when I volunteered at The
Colorado Neurological Institute on the faces of patients struggling to reclaim their lost sense of self

Biography Of Ludwig Van Beethoven s Symphonies
Ludwig van Beethoven s nine symphonies are indispensable pieces of music and contributed to
him being referred to as one of the most famous musicians in all of musical history. His
symphonies are still played today and are recognized around the world. He is known as a
symphonic master due to his nine symphonies. Ludwig van Beethovenwas a German composer
during the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic eras. Beethoven s symphonies
were greatly influenced by Haydn and Mozart in the beginning, but they showed remarkable signs
of his individuality and eventually transformed into his own style. His life is categorized into three
periods; early period, heroic period, and later period, in which his music had distinct characteristics
in each of the time periods. His symphonies were first composed in a very classical style that
stemmed from his mentors, to later develop into a more romantic style with his own personal touch
to finally compose the music that he wanted, without thinking about the music he thought he was
supposed to compose.

The early period of Beethoven s life lasted approximately six
years, from 1794 to 1800. This period began directly after Beethoven met the famous composer
Franz Joseph Hayden and moved to Vienna to study with him for two years. Although the lessons
with Hayden were not successful due to a personality conflict, Haydn greatly influenced Beethoven

How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay
In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread
attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as
sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was
given a collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the
Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the
hippies . This paper will discuss the beliefs of the hippies of Haight Ashburyin San Francisco,
California and illustrate how the hippiecounterculture transformed into an evolution of music, in
the making of protest songs and the new psychedelic sound. It will... Show more content on

Haight Ashbury had a history of being an entertainment center, capitalizing on San Francisco s
economic success in the Gold Rush.
In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its
Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving
disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of
dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of
thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie
movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of
the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as
political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by
anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural
History of a Subculture.
Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and
elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing,
planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight
against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R.

Unit 304
UNIT 304 PRINCIPLES FOR IMPLEMENTING DUTY OF CARE 1.1 Within my job I have a
duty of care towards all of the children and young people. This is a requirement to exercise
reasonable care, attention and caution to avoid negligence which would lead to the harm of others.
I have to make sure that I keep these children and young people safe at all times giving extra
attention towards the younger more venerable children and ensure they are safe throughout. We
protect them not only from physical harm but also emotional and sexual harm. It is guarding the
rights of a child as they have the right to independence and be treated with respect and dignity. This
extends to respecting the rights, cultural beliefs and values of the parents and family.... Show more

Another dilemma would be when to break confidentiality and share information. If you have any
concerns about a child or feel they are at risk you need to share them and report it, it is always
better to be safe than sorry. Other dilemmas could be: Staff falling out, Break confidentiality,
Swearing and behaviour, Absent staff members, Lack of team work. 2.2 If individuals insist on
doing something that you disagree with, you can only advise and encourage them. You cannot
force them to do anything. Example of potential conflict or dilemma: A child wants to go
outside, but it is raining and cold outside How to manage the risk I would insist that the child
wears a coat and suitable clothing/footwear, and shorten the length of time they are outside for.
Example of potential conflict or dilemma: A child refuses to eat school food How to manage the
risk I would tell the child how important it is to have a healthy, balanced diet and record all
information in their welfare plans then pass on the information to the relevant people. 2.3 There
many different places you can gain support and advice outside your setting for example health
visiting, social service, child protection, police, fire safety officer, Ofsted, and the internet. Within
the setting you can ask for support and advice from the

The Consolation of Philosophy
In book III of The Consolation of Philosophy, Boethius establishes the fact that God is the world s
helmsman, the divine reason, the supreme good, the origin of all things. He demonstrates that God
is omnipotent and omniscient. Nothing more superior can even be conceived of. Through the
concept of unity, through which things basically become good, Boethius shows that Godand
happiness are one, the divine goodness. He concludes, God is the essence of happiness. (70)
Book IV is the turning point in the theodicy, in the first chapter Boethius is truly puzzled by the
presence of evil in the world. But the greatest cause of my sadness is really this the fact that in
spite of a good helmsman to guide the world, evil can still exist and ... Show more content on

To further explain the idea that vice is often rewarded is only an appearance, Philosophy begins
discussing punishment. She states that when criminals get punished, they receive something good.
Punishment is rehabilitation, it turns someone bad to see the light of goodness, because
punishment in itself is justice. It is when the perpetrators are not caught and brought to justice they
endure the biggest punishment of all. Wickedness, is punishment for evil, therefore it is
everlasting. So the wicked are much more unhappy when they are unjustly allowed to go scot free,
than when a just punishment is imposed on them. (98) She even goes a bit further, as to say that
kindness and sympathy is usually placed with the victim, where as it should be placed with the
guilty. (100) Boethius views wickedness as sickness, В…like sick men being brought to the doctor,
so that their guilt could be cut back by punishment like a malignant growth. (100) In another
instance Boethius writes, В…evil is not so much an infliction as a deep set infection. (94) (may be
cut one quote out?)
As Boethius continues to deliberate upon the problem of good and evil, they come to the
discussion of Providence and Fate. Philosophy begins by defining both and underlining the
difference between them. She defines Providence as God s ultimate, unchanging plan, which is
divine and eternal. Where as, Fate is the way things play out. Unlike Providence, Fate is subject to
change and effected by fortune.

The Three Major Philosophies Established During the 1900s...
While discontent increased during the 1900s three major philosophies were established. The three
major philosophies that were established were socialism, communism, and fascism. Socialism was
never officially promoted, but the Bolsheviks, the elite group when Lenin was in power in Russia,
thought socialism could be achieved by moderate reforms such as higher wages, increased suffrage,
and social welfare. Communismwas promoted by Lenin, his successor, and Stalin. Lenin
developed the New Economic Policy, or NEP. Lenin just saw the New Economic Policy as a
temporary retreat from communism. His successor put the Soviet Union back on the road to pure
communism. Stalin developed Five Year Plans while the Soviet Union developed a command...

They developed communism because they desired to end capitalism because they felt as though it
led to the exploitation of workers. Communist philosophies influenced Lenin and Stalin. Fascism
was originally developed by Benito Mussolini, in 1919 when he organized the fascist party. The
fascist party officially gained power in 1922 when Benito Mussolini was appointed to prime
minister by King Victor Emmanuel after the March on Rome. Mussolini developed fascism
because he began to reject socialist ideas for intense nationalism. In summary communism was
developed by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and fascism was developed by Benito Mussolini.
The philosophies differed because of the different actions leaders had done. From a communist
point of view Lenin and Stalin did a lot. Lenin improved education dramatically, he opened up
education for everyone and within 15 years the literacy rate increased by 70%. As from a political
standpoint, Lenin helped the Bolsheviks rise to power. The Bolsheviks were responsible quickly

The Decision Making Process as It Relates to Planning
Decision making is the cognitive process leading to the selection of a course of action among
alternatives. Usually the decision making process is implemented resulting from an identified
problem that needs to be addressed and remedied. Each decision making process produces a final
choice, which is called a decision. Planningis an integral part of the process. Without an organized
plan, a final decision will be very difficult to achieve. Planning and decision making are very
similar, yet very distinct processes by which organizational goals are met. If the two processes are
implemented properly, they can complement each other so that goals can be realized in the most
efficient and effective manner possible. Planning involves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Identifying the decision criteria and allocating weights to the criteria are components of the
specific plans within the planning process. Identifying what is relevant to the purchase and giving
each priority the correct weight helped the plan to come to fruition. Every element of the process
must be specified so that the best decision will be made. The fourth step in the decision making
process required very specific planning and research. Identifying viable alternatives that have the
correct criteria is very important when making such a large investment. Our company wanted to
review three different products that could resolve our reporting problems, yet we were only able to
find two, Deltek and Microsoft s Navision. Once the two products were identified, demonstrations
were set up to begin the fifth step of the process. Analyzing the alternatives is accomplished by
appraising each product against the criteria outlined in step two and three of the process. Deltek and
Navision are similar products in that they both provide similar reports and information needed. Yet,
they are substantially different products. Deltek is a financial accounting software program and
Navision is an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system that attempts to integrate all data and
processes of an organization into a single unified system. In terms of price, Deltek is

How I Bluffed My Way Through College Essay
In this analysis of the two core reading How I bluffed my Way Through College by Kate Harding
and The Idea of a University by Roger Scruton we will look at the differences and the similarities of
the ideas and thoughts of the two authors. Both authors discuss the advantages to Universities but
they differ in how universities can be a challenge to students. Scruton refers to the old universityand
how they were grand and important to anyone considering further education,(Scruton,2010), but he
fails to bring a personal aspect from students. Where Harding explains that however Education is
important it comes with stress and some down falls if not completely done in the right way. She

She recalls the struggles, the fun, her failures and even her success in the end (Harding, 2011).
The personal story shows the real road it takes with decisions we make when entering college,
Harding wrote that she began college because she felt it was expected of her (Harding, 2011).
College students often make choices based on what they perceive as pressure to do so by others
like councilors, parents and even society. They enter college thinking this is what my plan
should look like and not making choices that are the best for them. Harding said that in the end
we all become graduates of one of the finest universities in the world and already, nobody much
cared how we got there (Harding,2011). To me this shows that even if you pass by the skin of
your teeth, you can still fail in the end. A diploma is not the end result that maters the most.
Students need to choose colleges that appeal to their needs and goals and not just go to get a
diploma. If students spend no time studying weather boarded or not liking their studies, then what
difference does the diploma make in the end. Students would just have a degree that often goes
unused in life but the costs is ever mounting to these students. The financial cost, the cost of failure,
loss of energy and time, causes many students to never finish their education or even to avoid going

Rhetorical Analysis Of Affirmative Action
Shelby Steele s Affirmative Action Rhetorical Analysis
On May 13, 1990, an eager yet serious Shelby Steele claims that affirmative action is reformist and
corrective, even repentant and redemptive , in the New York Times. Despite the different political
views, Steele does not want to insult these sincere intentions despite the conflicts that will arise
once these policies take effect. Steele believes that affirmative action is similar to a ...Faustian
bargain as it creates more moral problems rather than fixing them. Shelby Steele points out the
flaws of affirmative action and hopes to bring awareness to affirmative action by using appeals to
logic, credibility, emotion, and other canons of rhetoric. Steele s plan is to persuade the readers into
believing the harmful effects of the policy.
First and foremost, Shelby Steele starts off with an appeal to logic. Steele offers specific
evidence of the harmful effects regarding affirmative action for example But it is the music of
innocence and power that we hear in affirmative action that causes us to cling to it and to its
distracting emphasis on representation. This quote uses an appeal to logic to express why people
are still persisting on using it. When people think of affirmative action they tend to believe that
colleges need more representation, but really when Colleges are asking to recruit people of color
and insert diversity into their college, they only want the cosmetic diversity that covers the blemish
of disparity. These quotas are not actually effective in helping blacks be progressive for their future
and education Only 26 to 28 percent of blacks graduate from college. Shelby Steele wants young
blacks to take action for their education, rather than being a diversity trophy at college. Steele is
motivated to help start a change in how blacks are educated, because the amount of black students
that are graduating in a six year term is too low. Shelby then connects this to race because this
results in an artificial diversity that gives the appearance of an educational parity between black
and white students that has not been achieved in reality. An artificial diversity is what is making
this situation a crisis. When a school ask for

Categories Of Deviance
What is deviance? Deviance is the perpetual nature of behavior that strays from the societal norms
based on psychological, social and sociological aspect of a human being. Deviant behavior is
known to contribute an aspect of criminal behavior and actions. Based on the written literature of
Max Weber, there are three different types of regularities in sociology; charismatic, traditional and
legal rational. Each of these types of regularities capture the contemporary aspect of society. It is
believed that deviant behavior makes a vital contribution to the fabric of society because it
allows different forms of society to work together and conceive a consensus. There are many
different examples of regularities, such as; people tend to marry within their own class, people
who are 18 and over can vote and only people with licenses can drive.the consequences of not
conforming to different types of regularities differ from imprisonment to legal fines. The
difference between customary norms and obligatory norms are the severity of social backlash
and federal consequences. Customary norms are generally things like, tipping waiters above
15% or wearing seatbelts when driving; whereas, obligatory norms follow the example of
obeying the law. The two different types of legitimate orders are based upon who they come
from, one example would be from a police officer and another example would be from a parent.
The first has a legal obligation and the second has a social hierarchy.
Becker and Erikson both conceive deviance as a collective social process whereas people of
different societal norms and classes create their own boundaries based on these communities.
The community of African Americans have subsequently been categorized as a deviant group of
people by society. Their behavior in society is collectively misunderstood as deviant behavior
whether they are committing actual crimes or just selling lemonade on the sidewalk. This group
responds to being a labelled as a deviant group in a negative way, african americans have created
movements that stand to remove the embellished stereotypes they are labeled with. Black people
have been categorized as a deviant group of people since they were captured and sold on to slave

Nelson Mandela is a Worldwide Influence
Nelson Mandela once said, There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life
that is less than the one you are capable of living. His life is a prime example of how passionately
he believes these words. Even though he had to undergo many hardships, such as spending twenty
seven years in prison and battling tuberculosis, he never stopped striving to make a large impact on
not only South Africa, but the world as well (Schoemaker). Nelson Mandela is a major worldwide
influence due to his key role in the transformation of South Africa from apartheid to democracy, the
numerous charities he established and supported, and his lifelong dedication to ending racial
segregation permanently in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was... Show more content on

They enforced segregation in things such as schools, hospitals, shops, and buses; with the
blacks always having the worst quality of resources. Even the laws were different depending on
skin color. If a black man was found raping a white woman, he would be sentenced life
imprisonment, while a white man found raping a black woman would receive a small fine
(Gilbert). Mandela fought against these injustices throughout his life and ended up with a life
sentence in prison. Although Mandela s jail sentence had a negative effect on the people of
South Africa, it caused the rest of the world to begin taking notice. International businesses
began boycotting South Africa in the 1980 s and young whites began voicing their opposition to
the apartheid across the world. As a result, the National Party began secret negotiations with
Mandela while he was in prison, and they began to cut back on segregation and lift the ban on
the ANC. When Mandela was released from prison in 1990, he continued on with his fight to end
segregation (Schoemaker). Mandela s main goal was to create a Rainbow Nation, in which
everyone, no matter their skin color, was free and had equal rights (Polgreen). His insistence on
forgiveness over vengeance made him a potent symbol of the struggle to end this country s brutally
codified system of racial domination, and the power of peaceful resolution in even the most
intractable conflicts, according to Lydia Polgreen.

Reflective Statement
My understanding of the novel The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with The Sea written by Yukio
Mishima was considerably furthered by the interactive oral. My ideas on the text before compared
to my thoughts after the oral were greatly different.
One of the major talking points of the interactive oral was the how the author voiced his own
personal thoughts. Most works of literature convey some of the author s personal thoughts and
interests however in this novel Mishima conveys a sense of despair as too the state of Japan after
their defeat in World War Two. In the oral we collectively as a group discussed that Mishima
despised what Japan had become and how this was conveyed in the text.
This westernisation of Japan was represented in the novel by the character of Ryuji Tsukazaki
who after beginning the story as an honourable sailor one of the only true things permissible
according to the group of savage boys become nothing but a glorified house maid. The young
boy, Noburu, reflects Mishima s personal views on the subject by demonstrating the old code of
bushido when he says how can this man be saying things like that this splendid hero who once
shone so brightly? . In the oral we discussed how this quote was a metaphor for what Ryuji and to
a larger extent what Japan had become in real life.
A further instance in which the interactive oral

Central Limit Theorem Essay
The Central Limit Theorem is a statistical theory which states that the shape of a sampling
distribution is approximately normal no matter the shape of the population when graphed. This
theory works as long as the sample size is larger than 30. To go more into depth to explain this
theorem, we could take Grey s Anatomy fans across the United States track their episode
watching habits. They could write down how many episodes they watched a week from the
beginning of January to the end June. Below is a graph(taken from the internet, not real data)
showing the weeks from January to June as the x axis and showing the number of episodes on the
y axis of the data provided by these Grey s Anatomy fans. The graph is clearly not normal, yet it...

Let s say if I were to keep track of how long I walk my dog if I always take a longer path when I
walk the dog during the morning compared to the late afternoon. Putting this data on a graph, it
would look binomial like the graph I provided below. Yet just like the Grey s Anatomy example,
if we take the means of multiple random samples from the data and plot it on a graph, it would
become normal. Another example where the Central Limit Theorem takes place is if I were to
record the pitches that my two dogs bark at. My first dog, Oreo, has a deep, hearty bark where as
my second dog, Mya, has a high pitched bark. Considering this, if we graphed their barks, there
would be a dip in between which would look similar to the graph right above this paragraph. Yet
just like the others, if I was to take multiple random samples from the data and figured out the
means of each, it would look much more normal and the dip would be gone. Whether it be using
Grey s Anatomy watching habits, dog walking habits, or the pitch of a dog bark, the Central Limit
Theorem can turn a binomial graph into a normal graph. This can be easily done by taking a
random sample of over 30 from the data given, taking the means from each sample, and then
plotting them on a graph will give us an approximately normal

Similarities And Differences Of Snow White Story
Snow White is a fairytale that never gets old. Countless young children know the tale by heart: A
young, beautiful girl tries to live a happy life while her mother tries to kill her due to Snow White
being prettier than her. Snow White, though, has a much more profound, unexploited history.
There are many versions of this story that not a lot of people read. Two texts that were particularly
fascinating were Gold Tree and Silver Tree as well as Nourie Hadig. In Gold Tree and Silver Tree,
Silver Tree becomes jealous with Gold Tree s beauty and tries to kill her newlywed daughter, but
Gold Tree made a new friend, and she helped take care of Silver Tree. In Nourie Hadig, Nourie is
left in the forest by her father because her motherwants to kill her. There, she takes care of a prince
all the while her mother is trying to find her. Both these stories have amazing similarities and
striking differences, but the similarities significantly outweigh the differences. The stories are
astonishingly similar many ways, but their characters are the most standout thing about these
stories. While these figures have their differences, the similarities are much more eye catching.
These characters are similar because their personalities follow a similar rhythm throughout the
stories and their actions also stay the same. These stories characters represent the reason why these
stories commonly have been given the title of being the origins of Snow White. Their protagonists,

In today s society, dating has lost all of its meaning and has been overruled by the term hooking up . Social media and texting have taken over the means of communicating face to face and made our generation socially awkward. Since the arrival of new technologies and the changing definitions of traditional dating, dating has become a more loosely used term. According to The History of Dating , between the timeframe of 1900 and 1910 was the start of the dating era. As mentioned in the History of Dating, men would address young women, who they were interested in, by stopping by their house for a visit. • 3. Essay about Arguments for Open Adoption Records For those who are a part of the adoption world one of the most hotly debated issues is whether birth records should be open or closed to adoptees. With this issue comes strong feelings on both sides. In most states adoption records are fully sealed and inaccessible, unless the adoptee petitions the court. In 16 states these records are fully or partially available upon request with no court involvement, and also may depend upon when you were born. In a few states records are completely prohibited and the adoptee will never have any access to them. Alaska and Kansas have always made original birth records available. As an adoptee, I feel that all adoption records should be open. I believe that this can only strengthen the quality of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adoption in America been ruled by a stigma. For much too long, those who could not have children, unwed mothers, and the children born out of wedlock have been shamed and humiliated. I believe it is time for these supposedly disgraceful ideas to go by the wayside, and we begin hold onto the idea that all families are beautiful things, no matter how they are composed or how they came about. There is no shame in being an infertile couple, an unwed mother, or a child with unwed parents. Two facets comprise this issue: the social and the legal. Proposed social impacts of open records are the increase or decrease of abortions and adoptions, birth parents right to privacy, the forcing of unwanted relationships with adoptee children, and the undermining of the integrity of the adoptive family. Proposed legal impacts of open records are the violation of privacy to the family, right of reproductive privacy, and a birth a mother s equal rights with a father s (because of more birth mother s names being provided in comparison to father s names). Those in opposition to open records say that it will increase abortions and decrease adoption because abortion is confidential and adoption is not. However, it has been determined that this is not the case. In fact, there is a strong correlation between open records, decreased abortions and increased adoptions. It appears, that in states that opened adoption records ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Literary Elements In The Tale Tell Heart By Edger Allen Poe McBride, Wayne 16 Nov. 2017 Robinson Eng. 101 The short story the Tale Tell Heart, Edger Allen Poe uses many literary elements to show the theme of the story. Some of the literary elements that Poe uses are first person narrator, interior monologue, stream of consciousness, and cosmic irony. With these elements Poe displays the theme of the story which is, we are afraid of the things we don t understand and a guilty conscience will win out in the end. First person narration is throughout this story by using tense language as if he was telling you this in person. By using this element of first person narration it is able appeal more to the reader in an emotional way. The reader feels as if the protagonist is personally telling them the story about the old man. In the first paragraph Poe addresses the audience as if a question had just been asked to the protagonist if he was mad, The Protagonist responds with this the first paragraph of the story. True nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story. (41) The way Poe has the Protagonist exclaim that his is indeed not mad, is using emotional appeal to the reader. Interior monologue all throughout the story, this is mostly how the narrator speaks to the audience. By using interior monologue Poe uses logical appeal to show why the Protagonist wanted to kill the old man. The Protagonist states that the old man has never done anything to him and has always been pleasant to be around, it is the old man s eye, his blind eye that the Protagonist is afraid of. We know this because of what the Protagonist says in the second paragraph, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I ... Strategies to implement formative assessment Role of teacher / Impact on planning Actively involving students and parents Possible challenges or barriers of assessment use Focus questions: Teachers are responsible for creating a set of questions in a specific order which is used as a tool for evaluating understanding checklist. The teacher initiates the questions with simple concepts and steadily move towards a complex level, whereas students give answers when asked individually by the teacher or as a class where visual cue indicates their answer. Organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ) hold demonstrations and protests in the streets and outside businesses to denounce the maltreatment of animals. There are two sides on this issue, those who believe that the life of an animal is inferior to that of a human s and those who deem that animals deserve to have a life free of human interruption What Are Animal Rights. Without animal rights, our society can be deemed unfettered by empathy and restrained by immoral values. To begin with, why support animal rights? They scattered the ground in a haphazard manner, not dissimilar to the state of the thoughts swirling through the mind of the lone man, disconsolate and determined to regain a semblance of balance in his life. He strode purposefully towards his vengeful destination. With his worn out greased overalls and his intrinsic grey flat cap, he passed through the elaborate, elite fields of West Egg, also known as the land of new money , embarking towards this mansion. Located at the very end of West Egg, bordering the sound, rested the extravagant white mansion. Stealthily, he moved towards his target, Jay Gatsby. For all George Wilson was concerned, he had been contemplating whether or not this man was responsible for the tragic death of his beloved wife, Myrtle. He walked further: to within the rear of the luxurious pearl white mansion. An old piano, sat as to enamel Gatsby s supposedly elite position. Gatsby s abode was embellished with unique russet velvety walls and glazed coffee wooden floorboards. After Wilson s entrance, via an unlocked rear door, he imagined himself taking a drink with his girl in such a fine room, but that possibility did not exist. However, in the administration department there are some people whose interests go beyond the interest of the organization and want to make a profit from the money they receive. There are three possible ways of corruption within this department. First of all, the corrupt people can take the money away directly from the budget of the organization. However, they could get caught easily in this situation because when the others departments take a look at the funds statement, they will realize that some money is missing. Secondly, they could negotiate with some of the companies that offer services to the organization. For example, if there is an event and a certain company is supposed to rent the audio system, which cost $3000 there could be a negotiation between the corrupt people in our organization and the people from the company which offers the service so they inflate the cost from $3000 to $6000 and then divide the surplus of $3000 in exact parts between the two parties. Besides, the third way of corruption could arise in the creation of companies by the members of the administration department. In this case they will be the owners of the companies that offer services to the organization. The problem that could happen here is that they are going to have the power to control the bills so if certain service cost $1000 in the market, they can easily charge the same service for more money. According to Ellis s preface, explain what is so phenomenal about the founding of the United States? One reason why the founding of the US is so phenomenal is because the founding fathers were able to create a nation with a government, out of people who were against any type of political power (due to all previous corrupted rulers). There were also many people who were against the idea of a band of national advocates. (Ellis 9). People divided and scattered came together as a nation which is a miracle in itself. 2. Evaluate some of the problems that plagued the United States making it difficult to build a nation? In your opinion, which problem was most pressing? Explain. One problem was that no man had ever created a republican government with a country as large as the US; so no higher authorities had faith in the creation of this republican nation. Another apparent obstacle was that the legacy of the Revolution and the Declaration of Independence contradicted with the establishment of governmental authority. Furthermore, the Revolution encouraged people to rebel authority. Also, the states in the new nation did not share a history in the past and did not come together (other than wars). Lastly, there were many black peoples growing rapidly amongst racist whites. In my opinion, the contradiction between the legacy of the Revolution and building a nation with an authority strikes as the most pressing because the people the people as a whole become angry and stubborn when something they have fought/are fighting for is crushed. Chapter 1: The Duel 5. According to Ellis s explanation, why did Hamilton and Burr duel in the first place? Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel, and Hamilton accepted it with all his pride and honor. • 17. The Effect Of The Halo Effect According to social psychologists, 30 seconds is how long it takes for someone meeting you for the first time to form a list of determinations about your character and abilities. In 30 seconds, people form impressions of you based almost entirely on what they see your clothes, hairstyle, smile, how you carry yourself, and the rest of your nonverbal communications. Appearances do count. These quick impressions can also be lasting ones. Psychologists call it the halo effect. ( Appearances and First, 2011) The Halo Effect is the idea that global evaluations about a person (e.g. she is likeable) bleed over into judgements about their specific traits (e.g. she is intelligent). It was deemed the halo effect because our perception of others also creates a perception of a halo above their heads. People often only perceive what they want to perceive. An example of this affect is the obsession that some people have with celebrities. Because most Hollywood stars are attractive, we often associate other likable traits with them such as friendliness and intelligence. An experiment done by two professors at The University of Virginia, Richard Nisbett and Timothy Wilson, shows the effects of the halo effect. Nisbett and Wilson s experiment aimed to address and find an answer to the question regarding people s awareness of the halo effect. The researchers believe that people have little awareness of the nature of the halo effect, and that it influences their judgments and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Holocaust, the prisoners in the concentration camps risk their lives for an extra crust of bread or ration of soup. The captives in the Holocaust acclimate to their surroundings and do anything they can for food. A battle to death was almost customary for extra food. His symphonies are still played today and are recognized around the world. He is known as a symphonic master due to his nine symphonies. Ludwig van Beethovenwas a German composer during the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic eras. Beethoven s symphonies were greatly influenced by Haydn and Mozart in the beginning, but they showed remarkable signs of his individuality and eventually transformed into his own style. His life is categorized into three periods; early period, heroic period, and later period, in which his music had distinct characteristics in each of the time periods. His symphonies were first composed in a very classical style that stemmed from his mentors, to later develop into a more romantic style with his own personal touch to finally compose the music that he wanted, without thinking about the music he thought he was supposed to compose.

The early period of Beethoven s life lasted approximately six years, from 1794 to 1800. This period began directly after Beethoven met the famous composer Franz Joseph Hayden and moved to Vienna to study with him for two years. Although the lessons with Hayden were not successful due to a personality conflict, Haydn greatly influenced Beethoven s early period. This period of his life encompassed smaller musical pieces ... There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural History of a Subculture. Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing, planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R. ... It is when the perpetrators are not caught and brought to justice they endure the biggest punishment of all. Wickedness, is punishment for evil, therefore it is everlasting. So the wicked are much more unhappy when they are unjustly allowed to go scot free, than when a just punishment is imposed on them. College students often make choices based on what they perceive as pressure to do so by others like councilors, parents and even society. Despite the different political views, Steele does not want to insult these sincere intentions despite the conflicts that will arise once these policies take effect. Steele believes that affirmative action is similar to a ...Faustian bargain as it creates more moral problems rather than fixing them. Shelby Steele points out the flaws of affirmative action and hopes to bring awareness to affirmative action by using appeals to logic, credibility, emotion, and other canons of rhetoric. Steele s plan is to persuade the readers into believing the harmful effects of the policy. First and foremost, Shelby Steele starts off with an appeal to logic. Steele offers specific evidence of the harmful effects regarding affirmative action for example But it is the music of innocence and power that we hear in affirmative action that causes us to cling to it and to its distracting emphasis on representation. This quote uses an appeal to logic to express why people are still persisting on using it. When people think of affirmative action they tend to believe that colleges need more representation, but really when Colleges are asking to recruit people of color and insert diversity into their college, they only want the cosmetic diversity that covers the blemish of disparity. These quotas are not actually effective in helping blacks be progressive for their future and education Only 26 to 28 percent of blacks graduate from college. Shelby Steele wants young blacks to take action for their education, rather than being a diversity trophy at college. Steele is motivated to help start a change in how blacks are educated, because the amount of black students that are graduating in a six year term is too low. Shelby then connects this to race because this results in an artificial diversity that gives the appearance of an educational parity between black and white students that has not been achieved in reality. • 47. Categories Of Deviance What is deviance? Deviance is the perpetual nature of behavior that strays from the societal norms based on psychological, social and sociological aspect of a human being. Deviant behavior is known to contribute an aspect of criminal behavior and actions. Based on the written literature of Max Weber, there are three different types of regularities in sociology; charismatic, traditional and legal rational. Each of these types of regularities capture the contemporary aspect of society. It is believed that deviant behavior makes a vital contribution to the fabric of society because it allows different forms of society to work together and conceive a consensus. There are many different examples of regularities, such as; people tend to marry within their own class, people who are 18 and over can vote and only people with licenses can drive.the consequences of not conforming to different types of regularities differ from imprisonment to legal fines. The difference between customary norms and obligatory norms are the severity of social backlash and federal consequences. Customary norms are generally things like, tipping waiters above 15% or wearing seatbelts when driving; whereas, obligatory norms follow the example of obeying the law. The two different types of legitimate orders are based upon who they come from, one example would be from a police officer and another example would be from a parent. The first has a legal obligation and the second has a social hierarchy. Becker and Erikson both conceive deviance as a collective social process whereas people of different societal norms and classes create their own boundaries based on these communities. The community of African Americans have subsequently been categorized as a deviant group of people by society. Their behavior in society is collectively misunderstood as deviant behavior whether they are committing actual crimes or just selling lemonade on the sidewalk. Mandela fought against these injustices throughout his life and ended up with a life sentence in prison. My ideas on the text before compared to my thoughts after the oral were greatly different. One of the major talking points of the interactive oral was the how the author voiced his own personal thoughts. Most works of literature convey some of the author s personal thoughts and interests however in this novel Mishima conveys a sense of despair as too the state of Japan after their defeat in World War Two. In the oral we collectively as a group discussed that Mishima despised what Japan had become and how this was conveyed in the text. This westernisation of Japan was represented in the novel by the character of Ryuji Tsukazaki who after beginning the story as an honourable sailor one of the only true things permissible according to the group of savage boys become nothing but a glorified house maid. The young boy, Noburu, reflects Mishima s personal views on the subject by demonstrating the old code of bushido when he says how can this man be saying things like that this splendid hero who once shone so brightly? . They could write down how many episodes they watched a week from the beginning of January to the end June. Let s say if I were to keep track of how long I walk my dog if I always take a longer path when I walk the dog during the morning compared to the late afternoon. Putting this data on a graph, it would look binomial like the graph I provided below. Yet just like the Grey s Anatomy example, if we take the means of multiple random samples from the data and plot it on a graph, it would become normal. Another example where the Central Limit Theorem takes place is if I were to record the pitches that my two dogs bark at. My first dog, Oreo, has a deep, hearty bark where as my second dog, Mya, has a high pitched bark. Considering this, if we graphed their barks, there would be a dip in between which would look similar to the graph right above this paragraph. Yet just like the others, if I was to take multiple random samples from the data and figured out the means of each, it would look much more normal and the dip would be gone. Whether it be using Grey s Anatomy watching habits, dog walking habits, or the pitch of a dog bark, the Central Limit Theorem can turn a binomial graph into a normal graph.
