2. In the heart of Milan there is a historical work-
shop. Founded in 1944, this small nook hou-
ses our own Maria Vittoria Albani; an eclectic
designer of splendidly unusual costume jewelry.
Petite, elegant, and immensely talented, Maria
makes art that speaks to natural beauty, and is
expressed through impeccable craftsmanship.
Each piece is made by the nimble hands of
artisans.
Maria’s career spans decades and, in recogni-
tion of her contribution to this art form, Swaro-
vski commissioned her pieces to be showca-
sed in the crystal maker’s touring exhibition of
“Teatro alla Scala.” Maria’s creations have
also appeared in the Victoria & Albert Museum
in London.
Not one to let moss grow under her feet, Maria
remains hard at work in her wee hub designing
and creating exquisite baubles that may not ne-
cessarily succumb to fashion trends. Maria’s
artistic flair, decorated in emotion and feelings,
is what she draws on every day; for it is when
she is creating that her true essence comes to
the fore – expressing the art of adornment with
so much grace and élan.
Out of brightly coloured stones, lustrous pearls,
enamelled metals, polished shells and Murano
glass, Maria forges extraordinary pieces in li-
mited-edition that over the years have lit divas
and queens between Galas and international
catwalks. Her debut on TheItalianCollection.
com is not only a great honour, but an embrace
of our mission to ignite the beauty that dwells
within.

21. UNICI
The company started its life in the 1970s near the
small town of Como, an idyllic spot in the lakes
district of Lombardy. This northern region of Italy is
known all over the world for the technique of prin-
ting that most precious of fabrics, silk. At the helm
of the business is the Cattaneo family whose dedi-
cation to their craft earns them the accolade of one
of the best textile print shops in the land. Alessan-
dro, the founder’s son and a member of the team,
eagerly learns the secrets of the trade. Before too
long, he uses this new knowledge to develop im-
proved methods for printing silk, as well as other
materials favoured by the fashion industry. So on
the eve of the new Millennium, Alessandro, who
is a creative fellow at heart, takes the company to
new heights. Unici retools with advanced printing
techniques that allow them to take raw materials
and transform them into real masterpieces of texture
and colour. In 2008, Alessandro creates the luxury
brand UNICI All is ONE, a limited-edition line that
seeks to fuse those things that make him smile; art,
style, technology and beauty. TheItalianCollection
(TIC) and UNICI delight in introducing this capsule
of abundantly sized luscious scarves in the mixed
medium of silk and wool. Abstract design printed in
warm rich colours creates these rare and precious
scarves that will take your breath away!

long been the insider’s choice for haute coutu-
re knitwear. After graduating from the Instituto
di Moda in Florence, his passion for knitwear
and yarns lead Mr Luccarini to open his own
studio, which in a short time becomes a design
reference point for fashion houses from Milan
to London. In 2005, after a series of partner-
ships with haute couture labels, he launches
NICOLA LUCCARINI CASHMERE, a knitwear
range in 100% pure cashmere made by ar-
tisans. “Understated Glamour” expresses his
creative philosophy: original collections with

32. A staunch ally and admirer of the active, highly sophisticated woman, Antonio d’Amico has very clear
ideas about the essence of style. His style is precise, and could be described thus; simplicity, balance,
and fresh elegance for every moment of the day. A style whose imprint remains firmly rooted in a natu-
ral approach that really exemplifies the hallmarks of Italian Couture. Born in the southern Italian region,
Puglia, only to relocate to Milan with his family at a very young age, Antonio learned the rudimentary
elements of his mother’s sartorial bent. He watched as she applied her seamstress skills to making splen-
did garments for those who could afford the very best. But, it was in the early years of the 1980s when,
by chance, Antonio met the genius of Italian fashion Gianni Versace who helped him discover his own
talent. Life partners and work companions for almost 15 years, 24 hours a day, Antonio stood by Gian-
ni’s side as together they created collections from Haute Couture to ready-to-wear. In a short time, Antonio
assumed the creative direction for Istante (a secondary Versace line for men and women), Versatile (for
the curvaceous woman) Versace Sport (men and women), for accessories made under licence destined
for Japan, and also for designing costumes for theatre. All of these projects remained under Antonio’s
keen eye right up until July 1997 when Gianni Versace was tragically killed. From that point on, Antonio
d’Amico puts his infinite experience and immense talent to work for other Italian and foreign companies
for whom he designs small, but precious collections. From jeans, to tailored suits, skirts, trousers, shoulder
wraps, evening and cocktail dresses. And true to form, his objective remains only one; to make his wo-
men beautiful no matter the occasion. For TheItalianCollection inaugural Look Book, we have the pleasure
of introducing four out of the ten garments created by Antonio for an exhibition in 2009 honouring Gianni
Versace. The capsule embodies the sheath’s evolution, by day or by night, in what is uncompromising
Antonio style. There is the white sheath dress in cadi silk lined in satin. The Charleston-style dress in raso
silk has an intricate flourish of fine rectangular-shaped loose straps, or fringe-like embellishments, each
one decorated with tiny stones and black strass crystals. The captivating harlequin-style dress in black
and white cadi silk is rendered even more splendid by its “brassiere” adorned with jet black jais stones.
And finally, we bring you the black jersey corseted palazzo jumpsuit trimmed in meticulously adorned
white raso silk. Every garment is a laborious work of art, assembled by the “petite main” of skilled seam-
stresses. Behind each creation there is the precision of geometry ensuring aesthetic perfection in balance
and proportion; plus countless hours of research for the right fabrics and flawless craftsmanship. These
pieces unquestionably symbolise pure mastery of “il bello e ben fatto” -- the beautiful and well-made that
seamlessly fuse creativity, culture and timeless contemporary design.
Enjoy our initial offerings of Antonio’s collection, which are only a prelude to a project nearing comple-
tion. So stay in touch.
