How Houwzer Speeds Growth and Innovation by Gaining Insights Into API Use and...Dana Gardner

The DevOps movement is establishing itself within many organisations. Many people are asking “How do I do DevOps?” or “Can you tell me the recommended DevOps tool stack?”
By the time many organisations adopt DevOps, will the rise of serverless computing such as AWS Lambda mean that they are already out-of-date? The debate is on-going as to whether serverless computing (i.e. outsourcing the management of servers so you can focus on building that critical business functionality), will move organisations from DevOps to NoOps. AWS Lambda enables users to run code without provisioning or managing servers. With Lambda, users can run code for virtually any type of application or back end service – all with zero administration. Just upload your code and Lambda takes care of everything required to run and scale your code with high availability. You can set up your
code to automatically trigger from other AWS services or call it directly from any web or mobile app.

Es geht dabei unter anderen darum, wie man eine große Anwendungslandschaft auf ihre Cloud-Readiness hin analysiert und wie man eine industrialisierte Migration von Anwendungen auf eine Cloud Plattform etabliert.
Ronen Levinson: Unified policy enforcement with opa - Architecture Next 20CodeValue
The adoption of microservices architecture has continued to increase across the industry in recent years. Governing the behavior of microservices is rather challenging. In addition to our home-born microservices, we also have services that are part of our stack: API gateways, messaging brokers, orchestration tools, and service mesh solutions, to name a few.
Having such a large amount of services can decrease policy compliance's consistency and make governance harder to maintain, forcing us to redeploy services on each policy change. Enter Open Policy Agent (OPA). OPA is a CNCF incubation project that makes our policy more consistent, and therefore gives us more control over the system. In this talk, we will discuss what is OPA, and explore OPAs' integrations with all the levels of our cloud-native stack, along with on-stage demos. Join us on this journey to better microservices governance.
stackconf 2021 | Stretching the Service Mesh Beyond the CloudsNETWAYS
We hear a lot about using service mesh with Kubernetes and public clouds, but what about outside the clouds? In this talk, you’ll learn creative ways to apply a service mesh across different platforms and environments to automate canary deployments, facilitate cloud migrations, and more. By combining HashiCorp Consul’s service mesh and Terraform’s infrastructure as code, you can build a more seamless operational experience across multiple environments.
In this presentation you will learn what Kubernetes is and how you can use it to deploy highly available applications. I’ll cover container orchestration concepts, the Kubernetes architecture and cloud native applications patterns.
The most important moments in the lifecycle of an application would be covered:
creation of the environment where the application will run,
deployment of an containerized app,
application debugging,
exposing the application to users,
scaling up,
zero downtime updates.
Audience should be familiar with Docker (containers) and have basic ideeas about microservices architecture and cloud computing. I’ll include a live demo (deploy app on hosted kubernetes platform, perform autoscalling, kill applications).

As operators, it’s our job to monitor infrastructure, systems and applications and only wake up humans for tasks machines can’t fix on their own. Automated remediation pairs monitoring and runbook automation, giving you a monitoring system that can trigger operational actions with runbook automation to shorten incident response times and avoid alert fatigue.
Rundeck Director of Product Management Forrest Evans and Sensu Developer Advocate Todd Campbell discuss the key role automated remediation plays in the monitoring journey, with live demos of both the Rundeck and Sensu integrations. You’ll learn all about monitoring as code workflows with the Sensu Observability Pipeline and how to deliver runbook automation with Rundeck — and see how the two together can help you achieve automated remediation.

[WSO2Con EU 2018] Implementing a Zero Downtime WSO2 API Manager with an API C...WSO2
Like many other companies like it, NN Group is undertaking a digital transformation. APIs are the key enabler of this digital transformation. In 2017 they commenced the implementation of the API management solution using WSO2 software. They have engineered the WSO2 components in such a way to create an API Management infrastructure that is fully automated, both in provisioning, and operational management. WSO2 is now being used for managing external APIs. NN Group is now expanding its use to internal API management. This presentation focuses on the way they have engineered their external API management solution on the AWS cloud, how they implemented several CI/CD patterns to achieve zero down-time, and how they set up their API community.
For a lot of companies it is a challenge to automate their development pipeline. We would like to talk about one possible solution based on gitlab and terraform. The infrastructure and development process is created around git repositories. With Terraform it is possible to code also parts of the infrastructure. So each change in the application and also in the infrastrucure can be tracked within git repositorities. This is a great effort also for the CI process. So it is possible to automate the whole testing and integration processes very easy.

DevOps as a Service - our own true story with a happy ending (JuCParis 2018)Philippe Ensarguet
Keynote of the 2nd Jenkins User Conference in Paris
Even if we are doing software since tens of years, Digital has definitively change the pace of its delivery and lifecycle ! When you're working in a corporate with thousands of people doing software as software editors or service integrators on tens of technical ecosystems, it make sense to have a corporate vision and propose software factories that will enabled coherency of tools and practices to deliver quality, efficiency and productivity of the delivery, at scale. In this session, the core idea is to share our own true story from 0 to DevOps as a Service and Software Data-Driven Cockpit, to setup on the fly software factories in aaS mode and monitor the production effort. #JuCParis #JenkinsUserConference

- Application Performance Management (APM) solutions manage the performance, capacity and availability of dynamic applications from the Cloud or a traditional data center.
- APM aims to diagnose application performance issues to ensure that an expected level of service is maintained.
- As part of this monitoring, two specific sets of parameters are closely tracked.
- The first being performance metrics that define end user experience for an application, the second being metrics for computational resources used by the application for a specific load.
- APM solutions not only monitor and analyze logs but also diagnose problems and assist in pro-active performance management.
- APM is most commonly used for web applications where its components can also be individually monitored to pinpoint reasons for possible delays in the system.
- Neev has partnered with APM solutions like AppDynamics and Splunk to offer them to our customers.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Key Take Away
56
1. Don’t withhold information, open access to everyone (% sensitiveness).
Share your thoughts and analysis with the other teams.
2. Take time to define Indicators that matters.
Repeat the operation with Dev, Ops and Biz people.
3. Most analysis should be consistent and repeatable.
Eventually from the Dev computer ’til Production platform
(containers can help nowadays).
4. Don’t rush and try do everything at once.
You’ll get there quickly enough if you streamline your efforts.

Lessons Learned
57
Ø Today we managed to get an “Holistic” view of our systems and we can’t imagine working
without a solution like Splunk.
We did all this very quickly with Splunk and in much more depth than previously developing
custom tools.
Ø In the past most logs were considered “garbage” but made accessible they revealed many User
Behaviors we didn’t expect. It is of tremendous value to understand what customers do, which
features they use and how. This kind of analysis can trigger changes in the solution.
We started to put Logging Best Practices in place to make sure the “garbage” can be “recycled” ;)
Ø Everybody within Risk Systems is using Splunk for ad-hoc searches and sharing search links but
very few people share Dashboards and Reports today.
Going forward we’d like to enable more people and make sure they can collaborate on
improving our internal Splunk Apps.
