Thomas Paine was an author and founding father who came to America in 1774 to fight in the American Revolution, where he greatly influenced independence by publishing pamphlets supporting the cause. He was also elected to the French National Convention in 1792 and influenced the French Revolution. Paine wrote works against Christianity and in support of freethinking, and opposed Napoleon's developing dictatorship.
