Thomas Paine was an English-born American political activist and writer who was born in 1737 in Norfolk, England. He emigrated from Great Britain to Philadelphia in 1774 and wrote the influential pamphlet Common Sense, which advocated for American independence and helped drive the American Revolution. He was considered an important Founding Father of the United States for his role in driving revolutionary ideas and political change.
