organizational change. You also reviewed some of the transformational methods and
practices toward developing a recovery-oriented system. Additionally, information on the
challenges and facilitators involved in transformational efforts was provided. It’s important
to remember that social workers understand that evidence that informs practice derives
from multi-disciplinary sources and multiple ways of knowing. They also understand the
processes for translating research findings into effective practice.For this assignment,
prepare a tip sheet that could be used to advocate for change to locally elected officials
regarding technology transfers in mental health. Be sure to include the following:1. Indicate
key components necessary for system transformations.2. Explain technology transfer
strategies that can assist social workers and mental health organizations deliver recovery-
oriented practices.3. Assess issues that contribute to the challenges and facilitators of
transformative efforts remembering that social workers understand that human rights and
social justice, as well as social welfare and services, are mediated by policy and its
implementation at the federal, state, and local levels.Support your assignment with at least
three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate
scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.Your assignment should
demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by
providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should

Change in Recovery-Oriented Mental Health PracticeOver the past six weeks, you have
examined EBPs that can assist people with serious mental illness in recovery. This week,
you will examine some of the organizational changes required in mental health fields in
response to sweeping social policy in healthcare. The amount, depth, and breadth of
organizational transformation necessary to implement reform effectively go far beyond any
change the mental health field has seen in the past. Transformation will require
organizational restructuring, the development of new services and the use of technology. To
be successful and sustained over time, transformation demands a radical shift in the
philosophy, culture, behavior, and mindset of social work organizations providing mental
health services. For example, social workers can expect to increase the use of diagnostic and
screening tools to substantiate diagnoses; increase the use of decision-support and
treatment-planning tools that help plan and track treatment across longer episodes of care;
require documentation of care that is consistent with evidence-based, best, and promising
practices; encouragement to develop disease management programs and services for those
with serious mental illness; and increase the need for data management to report
performance outcomes, enable quality improvement, and financial analysis and
efficiency.To successfully transform any organization in the new environment, social work
leaders must transform their way of thinking, behaving, and operating. The challenges of
transformation will require social work leaders to have an in-depth understanding of why
change is important and what changes are needed. Social work leaders must also stay
current in best practices and research as they and their organization evolve. In Week 7, you
will review how planning for change is critical to any successful change effort and in order
to succeed, an organization must have a detailed plan that identifies the current structure
and where the organization wants to be in the future.While there are many areas related to
transformation, this week, you will read about some significant areas related to
organizational success such as:Integration of Mental Health with Primary Care: Integration
with primary care is a critical component of the new healthcare environment. A successful
mental health treatment organization is one that develops partnerships with local primary
care physicians, hospitals, and clinics.Information Technology (IT) Systems: This includes
scheduling, billing, financial, and other systems to streamline operations. Effective IT
systems also provide the mechanisms to collect and analyze necessary data to measure and
report on performance outcomes, productivity, operational efficiency, and provide
information that fosters informed decisions.Information Exchange: This includes a
universal move to electronic health records. Information must follow the patient and cross-
institutional and business boundaries seamlessly.Workforce: Successful linkages with, and
payment from, commercial insurance and managed care organizations (MCO) will depend
heavily on a licensed/credentialed staff.Recovery-Oriented Systems: Recovery-oriented
systems will become even more important. Systems will involve peers, treat the entire
family, and recognize the importance of supporting individuals in recovery with a
comprehensive network of recovery management and recovery support services.To
conclude Week 7, you will explore nationwide methods to develop a collaborative network
of support, resources, development and dissemination, training and technical assistance,
and workforce development for the field of mental health. Additionally, you will examine
other methods of ensuring that high-quality, effective mental health treatment and recovery
support services and evidence-based practices are available for all individuals with mental
disorders.

This week, you will examine some of the organizational changes required in mental health fields in response to sweeping social policy in healthcare. The amount, depth, and breadth of organizational transformation necessary to implement reform effectively go far beyond any change the mental health field has seen in the past. Transformation will require organizational restructuring, the development of new services and the use of technology. To be successful and sustained over time, transformation demands a radical shift in the philosophy, culture, behavior, and mindset of social work organizations providing mental health services. For example, social workers can expect to increase the use of diagnostic and
  • 2. screening tools to substantiate diagnoses; increase the use of decision-support and treatment-planning tools that help plan and track treatment across longer episodes of care; require documentation of care that is consistent with evidence-based, best, and promising practices; encouragement to develop disease management programs and services for those with serious mental illness; and increase the need for data management to report performance outcomes, enable quality improvement, and financial analysis and efficiency.To successfully transform any organization in the new environment, social work leaders must transform their way of thinking, behaving, and operating. The challenges of transformation will require social work leaders to have an in-depth understanding of why change is important and what changes are needed. Social work leaders must also stay current in best practices and research as they and their organization evolve. In Week 7, you will review how planning for change is critical to any successful change effort and in order to succeed, an organization must have a detailed plan that identifies the current structure and where the organization wants to be in the future.While there are many areas related to transformation, this week, you will read about some significant areas related to organizational success such as:Integration of Mental Health with Primary Care: Integration with primary care is a critical component of the new healthcare environment. A successful mental health treatment organization is one that develops partnerships with local primary care physicians, hospitals, and clinics.Information Technology (IT) Systems: This includes scheduling, billing, financial, and other systems to streamline operations. Effective IT systems also provide the mechanisms to collect and analyze necessary data to measure and report on performance outcomes, productivity, operational efficiency, and provide information that fosters informed decisions.Information Exchange: This includes a universal move to electronic health records. Information must follow the patient and cross- institutional and business boundaries seamlessly.Workforce: Successful linkages with, and payment from, commercial insurance and managed care organizations (MCO) will depend heavily on a licensed/credentialed staff.Recovery-Oriented Systems: Recovery-oriented systems will become even more important. Systems will involve peers, treat the entire family, and recognize the importance of supporting individuals in recovery with a comprehensive network of recovery management and recovery support services.To conclude Week 7, you will explore nationwide methods to develop a collaborative network of support, resources, development and dissemination, training and technical assistance, and workforce development for the field of mental health. Additionally, you will examine other methods of ensuring that high-quality, effective mental health treatment and recovery support services and evidence-based practices are available for all individuals with mental disorders.
