This document provides instructions for a short research paper on a topic related to World War II or the 1920s. The paper must be 3-5 double-spaced pages long using 12-point Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins. At least two credible academic sources must be cited using APA, MLA, or Chicago style. The paper should include a cover page with identifying information, bibliography, clear thesis statement, argument defending the thesis, and conclusion restates the argument. Acceptable topics include specific events like D-Day or social developments like flappers and fashion. The source material and all non-original content must be properly cited.

1. World War II
This short paper is at least 3-5 double-spaced pages of text (Times New Roman, font size 12,
1” margins) and you must consult a minimum of two academically credible sources (no
encyclopedias (tertiary sources)). You must cite your sources throughout and include a
bibliography (please select one citation style: APA, MLA, or Chicago). Everything that is not
general knowledge or your own analysis must be cited. The short paper must include a
cover page with your name, course number and course title, instructor’s name, and date.
You must also include a bibliography at the end of your paper. While composing your paper,
use proper English. Do not use abbreviations, contractions, passive voice, or first/ second
person (I, you, we, our, etc). Before submitting your paper, check your grammar and use
spell check. Please label your paper as follows: lastnamefirstnameHIST102ShortPaper.
TOPIC: This is a “mini” research paper. You may pick any topic within the time frame of this
course. Be sure to narrow your topic small enough to fit the size of the paper. For example,
the topic of World War II is broad. But if you want to research D-Day that would be more
suited for the length of the project. You can pick any topic of interest of you. Be creative.
Perhaps you are interested in the development of Hollywood of the 1920s or flappers and
fashion. Or maybe the development of music and rock and roll peek your interest. Pick what
you want to learn more about that is US history within the required timeframe. If you have

forum specifically for our papers where you can discuss your topics and research. Your
paper must include a clear and argumentative thesis that you will defend throughout the
paper. You must also include a strong conclusion that restates your argument and explains
how you have proven your case. You must use at least two scholarly secondary sources
from the AMU Library (see the attached Research Guide) . ALL material that you use in
composing your essay must be cited, not just direct quotations. Your paper should be in
12pt font, paragraphs indented, no space between paragraphs. Include your name in the
