This document summarizes a Junior Urban Adventure presentation about pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and addiction. It discusses perspectives from a drug rehabilitation center called Hello House, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the pharmaceutical company Merck. At Hello House, students learned about its 12-step program and saw its high success rates for helping men recover from drug and alcohol addictions. They also visited MCPHS to explore educational opportunities in healthcare fields. At Merck, they gained insight into the drug development process and clinical trials. Overall, the presentation provided students with a better understanding of difficult issues around addiction, healthcare, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Key Point from the Q &A with Dr. Mandar Kubal, Mumbai
Telemedicine has become a very useful tool for clinicians to manage their patients.
Given the ever changing contours of Covid19 treatment, doctors have to check daily for online resources.
It would be wonderful if pharma can provide every specialty the latest developments in treating Covid19 with pre existing conditions instead of sending their unvaccinated field force to give brand reminders.
Pharma should seek frontline worker status for Medical Reps and Field Managers as they are critical to maintain the drug supply chain.
Treat the Field Force as an asset and protect them, instead of pushing them onto the field without vaccination.
And many more insights from a clinician at the frontlines of treating Covid19 patients.

Video & Social Media Marketing IntensiveHans Mundahl
57% of donors researching non-profits made a gift after watching an online video according to a recent study by Millward Brown and Google. The power of video and social media in marketing, admission, and advancement is clear - yet too often these tools are not used because they are viewed as too expensive or too complicated for a small to medium sized school.
This workshop will demystify video and social media marketing for school communications. Topics will include data and industry trends, practical advice and hands-on training to help you create high quality video in house, and a social media marketing plan that will help you get started immediately after the program.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

This Pill Will Help You Feel Better: Final Project
1. A Junior Urban Adventure presentation on pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and addiction. Got Pills?
2. Why??? Drugs and alcohol, especially in the last 15 years, have become a major obstacle for many people in terms of addictions, health, occupation, and lifestyle. From alcoholism to a life-threatening dependence on prescriptions, many problems have arisen from the growing industry in pharmaceuticals. JUA gives students the opportunities to break down and investigate the intricacies of healthcare through hearing the stories of persevering alcoholics, exploring educational facilities which teach how to pursue this passion, and delve into the actual creative processes behind the drugs. Overall, students have come back with a honed awareness of such difficult problems.
3. The Perspectives Hello House A long term rehabilitation center for men struggling with drug and alcohol addictions. MCPHS (Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences) Educational institution devoted to teaching and research on healthcare, pharmacy, business, and dentistry. Merck Industries International pharmaceutical corporation that creates, tests, and markets new drugs and vaccines.
4. Hello House Hello House is a drug rehabilitation program that helps men to stop their dependence on substances and get their life back on track. All male ages 20-55 Based on the 12 step program of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) Ranges from 3-6 months in the program. 24 men can stay in the house at once High success rate 4 AA meeting are run in the house a week Before the program there are 3 days of detox, after the detox they have a stabilization program, then they have 2 weeks of orientation after which they are required to get a day job.
5. Agree with We agree with the use of the 12 step program It is very cool how the AA meetings are held at the house It was good to see that it was a small manageable group of individuals instead of a large clinic that is public. The Hello House works hard to make sure that their clients are matched appropriately to the house for their best chance at success. The zero-tolerance rule: the clients are tested multiple times a week for substances and are immediately released from the program if they fail. The fact that they do not ever give up on a person is inspiring. The staff will support anyone willingly and working on improving themselves no matter how many times they have relapsed.

8. Merck Merck is a multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company that merged with Schering-Plough in 2009. In 2009 Merck’s sales revenue was about 27.4 billion dollars with $5.8 billion going to drug development.
9. Facts About Merck A group of scientists at Merck have been working on AIDs since the epidemic surfaced. Merck has a compound bank which holds every compound ever developed by Merck’s synthetic chemists in order to screen them against new diseases. The formulation of a drug is dependent upon how the medication needs to be administered. Liquid or gel capsules can be broken down in the body faster where as tablets are meant to be slow-releasing. To decide what diseases to work on, Merck analyzes how many people are impacted by a disease and what their staff (chemists and biologists) are able to accomplish.
10.
11. It takes 3-10 years for a drug to pass clinical trials.
12. Only 10% of drugs produced are successful in clinical trials3 stages of clinical trials: 1st Healthy people take the drug to see how it effects the human body. 2nd Used on people with problems to see if the drug cures the illness. 3rd Later used on larger population of people to get statistics on side effects and safety.
13. Agree with: We liked the fact that Merck is one of two companies that is still producing vaccines. They do not make a lot of money from this but they believe it is important for people’s overall health. Merck puts a lot of resources into acquiring the best equipment possible as well as hiring the best qualified people to work as quickly and effectively as possible as understanding and curing diseases. Merck also helps by giving away medications for river blindness, greatly improving the quality of life for people who were infected with the parasite.
14. Disagree with Merck is a corporation so in choosing what diseases to tackle they look at how many people are impacted by it. There have to be enough people effected so that they can make a profit. The pharmaceutical industry is very confidential. If they all worked together instead of competing against each other for profit, there would probably be more cures or medications for more diseases because the flow of information would be much larger.
16. MCPHS MCPHS has many different schools including: School of nursing Dental hygiene Medical imaging and therapeutics Pharmacy school Arts of science We focused mostly on the school of pharmacy which has a total of 4 undergraduate programs (and many more graduate programs) Pharmacy – The PharmDprogram is direct entry for a 6 year program and prepares you for a career in pharmaceutical public health.
17. Pharmaceutical Science : The program offers a broad-based education in both the liberal arts and the pharmaceutical and biological science Will teach you how create and construct medicine or pills. Pharmaceutical and health care business : Full time, four year undergraduate degree Management of health care and the pharmaceutical Health care incorporated with business Pharmacology and toxicology : Hands on lab work on the affect of drugs on the human body
18. Agree with: The direct entry program for the PharmD program provides students the ability to work together instead of competing against each other to apply to the program later in college. There are state of the art labs and learning environments The research available for students interested in the pharmaceutical industry is focused on teaching. There are several internships with area companies available to students
19. Disagree with: The students in the PharmD program take one ethics class during their college career and there should be more classes over several years to better prepare students. An internship program should be established for students interested in becoming pharmacists. This way the students can have more real life experiences in dealing with customers and being able to identify drug seekers or customers with irregularities in the rate they fill prescriptions.
