Things Fall Apart Book Review Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Things Fall Apart Book Review" can be both challenging and
rewarding. The complexity of this task lies in the need to carefully analyze the intricate layers of
Chinua Achebe's masterpiece. The novel delves into the rich cultural tapestry of the Igbo people
while exploring themes of colonialism, cultural clash, and the consequences of societal change.
To begin with, one must thoroughly read and comprehend the novel, paying close attention to
the characters, plot, and underlying messages. A comprehensive understanding of the historical
and cultural context in which the story unfolds is crucial. This requires extensive research into the
Igbo society and the impact of British colonization on African communities during the late 19th
century.
Crafting a thoughtful and nuanced analysis demands a keen literary insight. Exploring the
protagonist, Okonkwo, and the supporting characters involves dissecting their motivations,
conflicts, and character arcs. Identifying symbolism, themes, and narrative techniques employed
by Achebe adds depth to the analysis. The task also involves critically examining the novel's
portrayal of cultural clashes and the consequences of colonialism, bringing in relevant scholarly
perspectives.
Moreover, a successful essay requires a coherent structure that effectively communicates the
analysis. This involves organizing ideas logically, developing a strong thesis statement, and
supporting arguments with evidence from the text. Balancing summary with analysis is crucial to
ensure the essay goes beyond mere description and engages in a meaningful interpretation of the
book.
Additionally, addressing the broader literary and historical context, including Achebe's role in
post-colonial literature, enhances the essay's depth. Evaluating the novel's impact on literature
and its relevance in contemporary society adds another layer of complexity.
In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on "Things Fall Apart" requires a blend of literary
analysis, historical understanding, and critical thinking. It demands meticulous research, a deep
understanding of the novel, and the ability to express complex ideas coherently. Despite the
challenges, successfully navigating these elements results in a thoughtful and insightful
exploration of Achebe's iconic work.

Analysis Of The Poem Birches And Hanging Fire By...
For some people, their childhood may have been the best time of their lives, but
for others, it could just be many years of memories they dread remembering.
Regardless of how someone feels about it, childhood is a critical part of life. In the
poems Birches by Robert Frost and Hanging Fire by Audre Lorde, the authors explore
what it is like to be a childand the major transition from childhoodto adulthood. While
Frost does so through the voice of an adult, Lorde chose to accomplish this from a
child s perspective. Although, the speakers are not the only aspects of the poem
that sets them apart. In Birches , Frost describes childhood as a simplistic, carefree
and innocent time, while in Hanging Fire , Lorde emphasizes the never ending
struggles children face when growing up. However, the speakers of the poems do
share a common challenge in maintaining personal relationships throughout
childhood and beyond. In Birches , the speaker thinks of childhood as a time of
innocence, where everything is easy going and immaturity is acceptable. Instead
of believing that the birches are being bent by ice storms, he likes to picture that
they are like that due to an adventurous, carefree child. He specifically says, I
should prefer to have some boy bend them/ As he went out and in to fetch the cows
/ Some boy too far from town to learn baseball,/ Whose only play was what he found
himself,/ Summer or Winter, and he could play alone . Essentially, instead of
believing in a
Themes Of Conflicts In The Maltese Falcon
Dashiell Hammett who worked for a detective agency, wrote the novel The Maltese
Falcon in 1929. In this novel the protagonist is a fictional character that Hammett
created and named Sam Spade. Sam is a private detective hired by another character
in the novel named Brigid O Shaughnessy. Being a detective comes with many job
responsibilities and being a private detective becomes even more complicated. In
Hammett s novel there are many conflicts throughout his writing. Most conflicts have
to do with Spade in some form considering he is the detective and also the
protagonist. Are the conflicts in the story relating to Spade within himself; man
versus self, or caused by another character; man versus man? When it comes to
conflicts in literature there are two main types; internal and external. There are
multiple different types of conflicts that can appear in literature, usually all stories or
novels have at least one conflict. What is a story without a conflict? An internal
conflict is a conflict that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

man has to do with the differences in morals, beliefs, or ethics between the two
characters. It can also have to do with an emotional or physical encounter. Man
versus nature is when a conflict is created between the character and nature its self.
Lastly when an issue with a character and their government or society comes up in
literature that is called man versus society. Within the story The Maltese Falcon Sam
Spade deals with multiple conflicts throughout Hammett s writing. Although some
conflicts in the story are due to external factors, Sam Spades conflicts are internal
conflicts. This means Spades conflicts are man versus self. Sam Spade faces
conflicts with other characters but the reason for these conflicts and how Sam Spade
handles the conflicts, are due to internal factors like his morals, beliefs, values, and

Sumerel v. Goodyear Tire Rubber Company (pp. 394 396)
The Parties:
The Parties in this case are Bob and Sallie Sumerel, Steven and Ann Berzin, Dane
and Kerry Dicke, and Bart Kaufman and Good Year Tire Rubber Company. Bob
and Sallie Sumerel, Steven and Ann Berzin, Dane and Kerry Dicke, and Bart
Kaufman are all the plaintiffs and appellants since they are suing and also appealing
the decision. The Good Year Tire Rubber Company is the defendant and the appellees
since they are being sued and contesting the appeal.

Since the hose was put in the vehicles Good Year was liable for any issue caused by
this hose. They want to be compensated for all other cost and losses they encountered
because of this.
The defendant s theory
Good Year doesn t feel they are responsible for the other cost and losses suffered by
the Plaintiffs in this case. Good Year feel like if they pay the correct amount they
will have satisfied the courts decision. Once the attorneys calculated the correct
amount and tried to fix the issue Good Year felt they were only obligated to pay that
amount only.
The legal issue
Should the Plaintiffs really get the $1.3 million ordered by the Courts? Should they
be awarded any money for their other cost and losses ?
The holding of the court
It was found that no, Good Year Tire Rubber Company was not responsible for the
other cost and losses of the Plaintiffs. Good Year was not obligated to pay the
Plaintiffs since there was no agreement made for payment. The error that was found
was bought to Good Year s attention but the attorneys failed to agree on the correct
amount.
What do you think?
I think that Good Year Tires should pay the Plaintiffs the correct amount from the
parentages the courts ordered them to pay. The Plaintiffs attorneys should have
ensured they make an agreement on their behalf once the discrepancy was found. The
emails and charts was a start but the best thing Brooks could have
Toxins in Beauty Products
Toxins in Beauty Products So many people use so many products and know
nothing about what s in the products they are exposing their bodies to so many
things and don t even know it. It is important for people to know what ingredients
are in beauty products because of all the possible toxic ingredients, health problems
and allergic reactions the products may cause, and what is, and isn t regulated by
the FDA. There are so many ingredients in the products people use every day,
especially in beauty products. Many of the components of these products are not
harmful, but some of them can be. Some of the most toxic ones include Phthalates
found in nail polish, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate used in foaming cleansers, and Parabens,
which are found in many deodorants (Christensen; Wachob). The acetone used to
take the nail polish off nails has Dimethyl Ketone, 2 Propanone, Beta Keto Propane
all toxic ingredients that can cause kidney damage ( Tox Town Acetone ). Isopropyl
Alcohol is found in skin and hair products. It is used to thin other liquids such as nail
polish in cosmeticscare products (Ingredients to Avoid; Isopropyl Alcohol). The
Phthalates in nail polish is used as plasticizers and solvents ( Isopropyl Alcohol ).
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is used to clean the skin and hair by mixing water to oil and

Ibuprofen And Acetaminophen
The scenario for this experiment is to determine the chemical structures for two new
compounds called Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. In order to determine the
structures of these compounds, we will utilize three different instruments that will
create spectra that will be analyzed in order to determine the structures of the
compounds. The instruments that we will use for this experiment include Gas
ChromatographyMass Spectrometry (GC/MS), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), and
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR). Each instrument provides
information that can be combined in order to determine the specific characteristics
and functional groups that will lead to structural determination.

There are two major forms of NMR that we will be using, and these forms are proton
NMR and Carbon 13 NMR. For analyzing Ibuprofen, we will use two dimensional
NMR techniques, and for analyzing Acetaminophen, we will use one dimensional H1
NMR and C13 NMR (if the spectrum provides usable data). Out of the instruments
that will be used for this experiment, the NMR will allow us to determine the specific
structure. The other instruments give us an idea of the molecular mass and
functional groups associated with the compounds, but those instruments do not show
the relationships between hydrogens or carbons. H1 NMR spectra will provide
splitting peaks that represent the proton environment for a given hydrogen set within
a structure. The two dimensional NMR technique for hydrogen environments is
called Correlation Spectroscopy (COSY), and this technique show the splitting shown
by H1 NMR, but it also provides a spectrum that can show hydrogen couplings within
the structure. These couplings provide tremendous information when determining
molecular structures. The 2D technique for Carbon 13 NMR is called Distortionless
Enhancement by Polarization Transfer (DEPT), and this technique is helpful in
structural determination because it produces three C13 spectra that show specific
Carbon Hydrogen environments (how many Hydrogens are
Eleanor In The Haunting Of Hill House
The protagonist in the book The Haunting of Hill House is Eleanor Vance. Eleanor
was thirty two years old when she came to Hill House (Jackson 7). When her
mother passed away, Eleanor was relieved. She did not have a good relationship
with her mother, and in fact, she didn t have a good relationship with anyone; she
had no friends. Eleanor took the role of the mother and was always taking care of
her mother; she could never escape and find the person so was going to be; she
was stuck. She was a very unhappy woman who was searching for freedom. Eleanor

Brief Summary Of Divorce
Divorce is to break the bondage of marriage. Ashleigh s parents are going through a
very hard divorce. Her dad is very poor and is about to have it easy. There s only a
set back on his way to a better life. He has to pay off $200.00. Ashleigh s mom has

The Pros And Cons Of School To Prison Pipeline
What is school to prison pipeline?
In the last decade, the punitive and overzealous tools and approaches of the modern
criminal justice system have seeped into our schools, serving to remove children
from mainstream educational environments and funnel them onto a one way path
toward prison. These various policies, collectively referred to as the School to Prison
Pipeline, push children out of school and hasten their entry into the juvenile, and
eventually the criminal, justice system, where prison is the end of the road.
Historical inequities, such as segregated education, concentrated poverty, and racial
disparities in law enforcement, all feed the pipeline. The School to Prison Pipeline is
one of the most urgent challenges in education today. (NAACP 2005)
School to Prison Pipeline is a zero tolerance policy enforced by the school, police
officer, and a judge. It is punishable by a ticket, court appearance, and even put away
in prison or a juvenile detention center. Also, includes the presence of a police officer
at the schools, which can include harsh tactics, physical restraint, punishments that
result in suspensions, expulsion, or push out of class. Why are we letting this happen
to your kids? If these children are supposed to be the next generation, we must help
them not end up in prison, for minimal things they do. Who is in the Pipeline?
There are two groups of students in the Pipeline, racial minorities and children with
disabilities.

Business Chain Of Command Or Hierarchical Structure
Upward/downward communication occurs when information and messages are
trickled through an organization or business chain of command or hierarchical
structure (Grimsley, Study.com). An easier description of upward/downward
communication is the concept of messages and commands starting from the upper
levels of an organization or business which is then facilitated towards lower levels
through smooth communicationfrom the employer or whoever is in charge.
Advantages of having effective upward downward communication is organizational
discipline, work efficiency, communication of goals and the ease of delegation
(Grimsley, Study.com). Discipline is implemented due to the main emphasis of
upward downward communication within the organization. Delegation of
assignments and projects throughout the organization is done with ease; this
represents the chain of command. Upward downward communication forces
employees to work together while creating a competitive environment. The chain of
command is represented through upward downward communication. In order to
make your way to the top of the chain, it forces employees to hold a strong work ethic
, while keeping in mind the best interest of the organization. Competition is healthy,
the workforce teaches individuals to never have a sense of complacency or
incompetence. If you can t do the job, then someone else will. When it specifically
comes to downward communication the best interest of the company is in mind.
Efficiency is offered due
Technology And Its Architecture For The 21st Century Essay

1.The data has two paths. Depending on the type, the data can go into the enterprise
data warehouse if it is structured data. If it is semi structured data such as detectors
and sensors, they go into Hadoop that acts as a data lake to collect a sample of the
following sources of data:
Wayside detectors. : These sensors identify spot defect such as overheated
bearings and damaged wheels, dragging hoses, deteriorating bearings, cracked
wheels, and excessively high or wide load on passing rail cars.
Acoustic detector systems. : These trackside systems use acoustic signatures to
gauge the sound and condition of internal bearings and identify those nearing
breakdownfailure. They supplement or replace systems that measure the heat that
bearings generate to identify those in the process of deteriorating.
Track geometry cars. : These technology rich cars utilize sophisticated electronic
and optical devices to inspect track alignment, gauge, curvature, and other track
conditionsso on. A new vehicle track interaction system is also used to locate difficult
to find track geometry defects. This information helps railroads determine when track
needs maintenance.
Ground penetrating radar. : This technology assists in identifying isolating below

How Did Nationalism Affect Italy At The Turn Of The 18th...
In the 1800 s, a new sense swept throughout Europe, uprooting the old order of
Europe. Nationalism, a belief that people s greatest loyalty should be to a nation of
people who share a common culture and history. So strong that it challenged the old
order of Europe by inspiring revolutions and helping Italy and Germanyto unite and in
return uproot the past European order. By 1815, the Congress of Vienna had ended
and in return created five great powers: England, France, Austria, Prussia, and Russia.
The Congress of Vienna ensured that monarchies would keep their thrones through
the principle of legitimacy, successfully oppressing smaller countries. However,

For example, the Greeks were spurred by nationalistic feeling and rebelled against the
Ottoman Turks in 1821. Revolution was opposed by the powerful European
governments, but popular support for the Greeks grew throughout Europe. The
Russians felt a connection to the Greek orthodox Christians who were ruled by
Muslim Ottomans and educated Europeans and Americans loved and respected
ancient Greek culture. This eventually leads to a combined British, French, and
Russian fleet destroying the Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Navarino in 1827. In 1830,
Britain, France, and Russia signed a treaty ensuring and independent kingdom of
Greece. In addition, Nationalism also led to the disunification of Russia. The czars of
Russia tried to force Russian culture on millions of people of different ethnic groups
in the empire. This strengthened nationalistic feeling among groups as they fought
for their freedom. These two revolutions resulted in the destruction of the Russian and
Ottoman empire. The shock of World War I and revolutions throughout their own
empire led to the destruction of their empire. In summary, nationalistic feelings
erupted after the two empires forced people to unite under one heritage but people
believed that they should unite under those of their own

The Importance Of Change In The World

back and stop almost every natural disaster. The reason I wouldn t stop every

Next, I would do is get a bunch of money from cheating the system. For example, I
would go to the future and get the winning lottery numbers, and place my bet and
get the winnings. Another thing I would do is find out the winning horses and
cash in my bet. The final thing I would goes to Las Vegas and play blackjack and
find out what the dealer s cards are. What I would do with all this money is go and
get solar panels for the whole world and build houses for the homeless. Also, what I
could do is give money to the dog shelter so no other dog is ever killed or abused.
Then, I would go back in time and have fun. Like go to the sixties and having some
stuff. Maybe go to places that like having explosions, but like not harm people.
Maybe watch like the first episode of family guy. Maybe watch the first color movie.
See what drive ins were like. Finally just ride a dinosaur. Also, I would do is go back
in time and watch the world s histories just unfold. For example, see what it was
like for Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Then I would watch the Revolutionary War, from
a safe distance at least. Next I would just go and look at Osama bin Laden being

The final thing I would do is see what me and my friends did when we were
All Lives Matter, By Harper Lee
All Lives Matter
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee writes, Nigger lover is just one of
those terms that don t mean anything like snot nose. It s hard to explain ignorant,
trashy people use it when they think somebody s favoring Negroes over and above
themselves. It s slipped into usage with some people like ourselves, when they want
a common, ugly term to label somebody. Black lives matter and all life matter
contradict each other when they are used incorrectly. Overall, saying that all lives

all lives matter shows we cannot discriminate against individuals. Some feel that all

One brave soul decided to fire back with another new hashtag, All Lives Matter. All
Lives Matter was supposed to be a hashtag that would unite our nation rather than
tear it apart more, but pPeople have stated how they feel about both hashtags. As
black lives matter wants to see where all people are treated equal, it fails with just
showing the racial side of the matter, rather than the LGBT, and Mexican, etc. With
all lives matter it includes all these people and shows how all of us were created
equal and should be equal in everything we do. In the article posted on the blog
State Press titled #AllLivesMatter, not just #BlackLivesMatter Lindsay Roberts
wrote It is our civic responsibility to make sure that our government understands
that we will not stand for this. Because if we do not, we re failing every truth we

defense of the person who was shot or killed based on the color of there skin. They
think we discriminate against them because of their color and background. Really,
we aren t trying to be racist when we rush to the fact that they were black. We aren

the color of their skin is black. We aren t being judgemental towards them and have

Universal Healthcare At Costa Rica
Universal Healthcare in Costa Rica Veronica B. Ortner Miami Dade College
Universal Healthcare in Costa Rica Aside from being an amazing place to
vacation, Costa Rica has some of the best healthcare in Latin America. In the U.S.
healthcare is outrageously expensive. Even with Obamacare, some people can t
afford it. Costa Rica has universal healthcare, which has been up and running for
more than 70 years, where everybody is cover. In an article written by Chris Gilbert
for the Centre Daily Times he explains, Under the universal system, every Costa
Rican citizen has health care coverage and can use the public system. (Gilbert,
2014). As stated in a report written by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.);
The Costa Rican healthcare system is one of the few in Latin America that actually
offers almost complete, universal coverage, both financial and geographical, an
achievement that is sustained in a financing strategy based upon the contributions
of workers, employers, and the State, typical of social securities. (Saenz,
Bermudez, Acosta, 2010, p. 6) Unlike developed countries, where the insured are
required to select between services depending on which package they can afford, as
an example most of the insurance packages in Obamacare don t include dental or
vision insurance. In Costa Rica healthcare, everyone pays the same, and is fully
covered. Also in the W.H.O report; Health insurance in Costa Rica is integrated; that

The War On Drugs And Drugs
James Gombas

Political Economic Thought
When President Richard Nixon called for increased federal spending in an attempt
to curb the number of drug users and the sale and importation of illicit narcotics the
war on drugs began in earnest. The war on drugs has also played a major role in
politics as well as having a significant impact on the economy. While there are many
arguments in favor for the war on drugs and an equal number of arguments against it
I will attempt to show an unbiased look at the war on drugs and drug prohibition and
how it has affected society as a whole.
Since 1971 the United States government has spent $1,000,000,000,000 on the war
on drugs. This is a staggering number and shows how much money is spent ... Show

The massive increase in those incarcerated has also led to the growth of the prison
system and in the U.S. alone the amount spent on prisons rose 127% from 1987 to
2007. This also led to the creation of the prison industrial complex which is a
collection of private prisons. These prisons profit off of those they incarcerate and
directly benefit from the drug war and the increase in incarceration rates. Some
groups such as the DEA argue that the money spent on drug legalization is
minimal compared to the social costs of drug abuse and addiction . An important
aspect of the war on drugs is that while the federal budget for drug enforcement in
2009 was 14.8 billion the budget for education was over 137.6 billion. This brings
up an interesting point in that education is seen as a serious social issue so addiction
should also be looked at in the same way. When looking at the war on drugs it is
important to keep in mind that the goal is to eradicate drug abuse and henceforth
create a better, safer environment for all citizens. Lastly, the DEA makes the point
that through legislation the consumption of drugs has decreased.
The war on drugs in the U.S. is mainly a supply side war which targets drug
importers and users in an attempt to cut the supply of illicit drugs instead of focusing
on the rehabilitation of users which would help decrease the demand for illegal
Actuaries in IT-Programming
Definition
History on the development of programming in the actuarial profession
It has become evident in the work place that programming has become an essential
skill. The importance of developing IT skills is highlighted by the Work Based Skills
and Actuarial Training Offices (Actuarial Society of South Africa, 2013). Also,
historical documentation has emphasized the use of technology in life insurance as
well as pension funds as early as the World War II era.
Yates (1997,p.60 and 1999,p.5) stated that in the 1950s life insurance was
introduced to the use of computers as soon as they were available to commercial
firms. He further elaborated on how insurance companies impacted the electro
mechanical punched card tabulating equipment technology since they were the
primary users of the punch card machines during the late 1940s and 1950s. Figure 1
below shows an image of a punched card. Figure 1: IBM punched card (Ceruzzi,
2003)
During the second world war, many mathematically trained actuaries and other
insurance employees were recruited to work on military projects involving
statistics, code breaking, bombsights and operations research while a few worked
on the new computer technology being developed during the war (Yates 1999,p.5).
A paper by Myers, Friend, and Holberton (1954) illustrates how a UNIVAC
(Universal Automatic computer) was used to complete a set of actuarial calculations

Natural and Sexual Selection of Vestigial and Wild Type Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract
In this experiment, vestigial flies as well as wild type flies were used to create
some diversity as well as test one of our hypotheses. Our hypotheses are as follows;
1) The wild type flies will have a greater relative fitness compared to the vestigial
flies based on only sexual selection. The wild type has a relative fitness of 1 since it
has fully functional wings. Vestigial Winged flies are not as sexually appealing since
their wings are not functional and the wing movement is a vital part of their mating
ritual. 2) The vestigial fly will have a greater relative fitness when considering both
sexual and natural selection. With the presence of ... Show more content on

for the growth of the yeast and were frozen so they would be easier to cut. The yeast
was used because the drosophila melanogaster prefer this as a food source. The
vestigial and wild type flies were sexed (to determine their sex), sorted, and
counted. An initial population size of 100 total flies was decided so that it would
be easier to determine the phenotypic percentage of the total population. Fly paper
was placed in one of the sets of cages to impose a method of natural selection as well
as the sexual selection which is being solely tested by the other set of cages.
It was decided that there would be 80 vestigial flies and 20 wild type flies to total to
an initial population of 100 drosophila. Next, the flies were anesthetized flies using
Fly Nap. The flies were counted out to reach desired ratio, sexing the flies making
sure there are equal amounts of males and females to be sure there is ample
individuals to allow successful mating. The fly s food was prepared by taking a
frozen rotten banana, cutting it in half, mashing up the banana meat, and mixing
yeast into it. The
Analysis of the Article 1% by Joseph Stiglitz
In the article Of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1% Joseph Stiglitz, a noble prize
winning economist, argues that the upper 1% controls about 40% of all wealth in
America. This top 1% has taken about a quarter of all income in America, and has
seen their income rise about 18% in the past decade. This has made the inequality
between classes in the US expand. Eventually, this inequality gap will even hurt
the top 1%, because the other 99% will either fight for a bigger piece or just stop
working all together. The top 1% can buy anything they need, but their fate realizes
on the other 99% to work hard and not fight back. If the 99% stopped working,
there would be a simple way to gain back money... that would be to raise taxes on
the rich. However, the rich get rich by capital gains, which have a low tax policy. So
overall, the upper percent can eventually learn, but a majority of the time it is too
little too late. Throughout the article, Stiglitz approaches the topic of the 1% and
how that prestigious group rarely tries benefiting anyone besides his or her self.
Joseph Stiglitz gets that point across and explains it well within his article. The topic
of the 1% only benefiting his or her self is extensively explained in the statement
about the rich not caring about common problems. The rich has a large sum of money
that they could invest into infrastructure, education, war and technology, but the
upper 1% does not wantto do that because it does benefit that group enough. I

This would definitely not be a good place to bring a date for the first time, if you are
trying to get to know them.
The Cheesecake Factory can utilize its strengths to be more competitive by possibly
introducing more kid friendly dishes.
They could offer smaller portions all day versus just at lunch to appeal to those who
don t want the larger portions at night.
They can minimize their weakness by possibly taking reservations and by extending
hours of operation, and maybe even adding a smaller sister restaurant in the same
area no more than 15 20 minutes apart.
Adding a smaller sister restaurant in the same area would help move the over flow
from the neighboring areas to that restaurant alleviating the customer overflow.
I have been to at least 7 different cities and locations and even thought the noise
level gets to be a bit much and the wait time can be up to 1 2 hours.
The quality of the food is consistent and the price is reasonable therefore my family

The Awakening by Edna Pontellier Essay
Whatever we may do or attempt, despite the embrace and transports of love, the
hunger of lips, we are always alone (Chopin 581.7). In Kate Chopin s story The
Awakening, not only is this the quote that Edna Pontellier identifies with when Mrs.
Ratignolle plays piano for her, but it is also the perfect description of the struggle in
which Mrs. Pontellier faces. Though, The Awakening was considered sexually
charged and risquГ© for its time, when one analyzes this quote and the original title
of Kate Chopins story, A Solitary Soul, they come to the realization that there is
more to this story than just sex (562). The Awakening is a story about Edna

She pales in comparison as a mother when set next to the other Creole women on
Grand Isle. When the children of the other mothers need comfort, they run to their
mother. However this is not the case for Mrs. Pontellier. When Edna s children fall,
rather than seeking comfort from their mother, they are more likely to instead get up
and carry on playing (567). Try as she might, Edna is simply not a mother woman ,
and finds no satisfaction in attempting to be one (567).
Edna s lack of belonging is not limited to inside her own house though. The largest
aspect of life in which Edna fails to find belonging is in the Creole society. Edna is
not Creole, but rather married into it. As she spends her summer immersed in this
society, Edna begins to realize just how little she fits into it. The Creole women s
every waking thought was of their children, so much so that in the middle of
summer, Mrs. Ratignolle is already sewing her children winter outfits. Edna, on the
other hand, seems to rarely ever think of her children. The Creole women were also
know to be very flirtatious, but in a way that was harmless and lacked meaning.
Edna, being an outsider from Kentucky, did not understand the openness in which
they expressed themselves. Some of the Creole women would talk in great detail of
intimate events such as child birth, tell stories, and read books that all made Edna
blush. Edna, being a solitary person, never really seemed to fit among the communal

My Family Permanent Resident Status
I am going to America; I kept retrospection in my mind. My Parents and elder sister
have already traveled to the United States a couple of months back. I was living
with my father s cousin for the mean time and my two younger sisters were staying
with my mom s friend. The news is now out in our little town, on the outskirts of
Lagos. Are you going to America? That was the question most people kept asking
me. I do not know was usually my reply, trying to be coy about it. In Nigeria, going to
the United States is perceived as winning the lottery, which is ironic because my
father won the visa lottery that guaranteed my whole family permanent resident status

there is free education for the public schools. Private schools are often better. My
dad worked for the Electoral commission of Nigeria and my mom was a math

Unfortunately for one of my colleagues, he had to drop out of middle school
because he could not afford the tuition and he had to hawk bread so that his
parents can pay the rent. He was a very brilliant student but unfortunately could not
get an education. Till this day, I am sad he did not complete his education. He
would always talk about how he wanted to be a doctor and I think he had the
potential to be one. Who knows if he could have been the one to find a cure for
cancer? There are other unfortunate students like him who cannot complete school
for various reasons. The education system is good but not everyone is given a
chance to learn. We also were not allowed to speak our local languages in school
and the teachers referred to them as vernaculars. I have been afraid of teachers my
whole life because I was conditioned to fear them. Teachers in school for any
mistake I made often beat me flogged me and that fear has been instilled in me.

A Literary And Historical Standpoint
Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object driven
analyses of Shakespeare s First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, the story
of the object asserting itself as a thing. By treating the First Folio as only a book
meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in a subject object
binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the
object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a code by which our
interpretive attention makes them meaningful (Brown 4). This line of thinking is
problematic because the object then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a
thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see that it has knowledge with or
without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary allows for the
thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes it is the subject that
totalizes the world (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely
passively impacted by the world but actively impacts the world with its presence.
However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits
our study of it. Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object
becoming a thing. Before I further my argument I want to take a moment to fully
examine the difference between an object and a thing and why current scholarship
has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing.

Essay on MP3 and Music
The Possibilities and Problems of Digital Recording and Distribution
Abstract: This essay deals with the creative possibilities generated by the influx of
inexpensive and easy to use digital recording software, hardware, and digital
distribution techniques. One of the main themes of the essay is the problem of
upholding creativity and artistic integrity in an unmediated digital environment.
What would you say if I told you that I had bought entire paragraphs of this paper
online? You would probably accuse me of plagiarism and disregard the contents of
the essay. However, many contemporary composers and their listeners consider the

However, modern technology has made it possible to package many of the features of
large recording studios into small digital recording consoles, which amateur musicians
can afford. The price of one of these consoles, the Tascam Digital Portastudio 788, at
Musiciansfriend.com, is $899.99 [1]. This console, although seemingly expensive, is
much more cost effective than paying for an entire studio, and can achieve nearly the
same results. The real benefit of a digital recording console, however, is the creative
control it bestows upon musicians. Instead of having a producer who dictates how the
recording should sound, the musician becomes the producer, giving him complete
control over all aspects of the composition. Additionally, because of the cost of studio
recording, a musician s time in the studio is usually limited. However, with a personal
digital recording console, one can freely experiment with new ideas without time
constraints. While this unmediated recording environment theoretically provides an
artist with unlimited creative flexibility, it also allows for detrimental misuse in the
form of non original composition, which can negate the creative possibilities of this
new artistic process.
The accessibility and simplicity of the unmediated digital recording process enable
individuals, who otherwise would not be involved in music recording, damage the

I INTRODUCTION
Over multiple years, humans have evolved in many different ways, allowing them to
adapt to their environment. Intellectually or physically mankind has shown facilities
to conquer new grounds of reworking themselves towards better outcomes. In the
business world, where theories and strategies combine, helpfully guiding those
thrilling for adventures. Theories are an intriguing way of trying new experiments
and setting an analysis, which might end up being true or shown to be false. Business
Process Improvement (BPI) is a strategic way of planning in order to foresee which
sector of a business has the potential to be encouraged or improved, leading to an
overall business growth. As evolution can be a constant threat and opportunity in the
business world, it is a merger role for managers to be aware and adapt their structure
for improvement in order to compete with rival firms. As W. Edwards says, It is not
necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory . (Jacobson, 2015) On the other hand,
Successful Change Management (SCM) is a kind of approach to redirect a process

Compare And Contrast Bermuda And Living In Virginia
There are many differences between living in Bermuda and living in Virginia, while
they do have a few similarities. Such similarities being that they had both been

of the land, and afterwards the people living there governed themselves. (Lecture: The

Both regions had greatly differing types of climates and environments. Virginia had a

Analysis of Lincoln s First Inaugural Address Essay
Abraham Lincoln s First Inaugural Address When Abraham Lincoln won the
presidency in 1860 the Union was divided. He accepted his presidential duties
knowing that he was working with a nation that no longer remained united. Seven of
the southern states had already seceded from the Union and were beginning to refer
to themselves as the Confederates. What he had now were free states and slave
states. When Lincoln gave his Inaugural Address he attempted to do so in a way that
would not dissuade his chances of gaining support in the southern states, especially
when it involved the institution of slavery. However, he also made it clear in his
address that he believed a secure and united nation was of utmost importance and he

Lincoln does question if this was only put in the Constitution by those who hoped to
reclaim fugitive slaves who have escaped, but he does acknowledge the fact that
because it is in the Constitution himself and members of Congress support it.
Although it is not clear who will enforce this policy, the national or State authorities,
Lincoln suggests that it is in all States best interest to abide by the laws in the
Constitution that have yet to be repealed. Although Lincoln was very tolerant of the
institution of slavery in the Southern States even though he did not fully support it,
he did not stand for a nation divided. As the southern states continued to remove
themselves from the Union, Lincoln feared they were attempting to disrupt the order
of things in the nation. The Union of States is considered to be perpetual. It is the
fundamental law of all national governments; no government would allow provisions
in its constitution that would allow for it to be terminated. He states that since the
beginning of the Union there has been progression only towards strengthening the
Union and the establishment of the Constitution was to form a more perfect Union
(671). As States continue to secede the nation is becoming less perfect because the
vital element of perpetuity is lost. States are legally bound to remain a part of the

Introduction
Sydney Trains is a train operator owned by the New South Wales Government and
operates all suburban passenger rail services in Sydney, Australia, maintains the New
South Wales Metropolitan Rail Area, and maintains all but a handful of operational
railway stations in the state. Sydney Trains is a wholly owned subsidiary of the
Transport for New South Wales(TfNSW) statutory authority.
The network is a hybrid suburban commuter railway with a central underground
core that serves 178 stations over 815 km of track. The network has 20 hours a day
operation with train frequencies of every three minutes or better in the underground
core, 5 10 minutes at most major stations all day, 15 minutes at most minor stations
all day and four trains an hour on the Cumberland Line. On weekends service is less
frequent with headways of upwards of a half hour on outer stations with frequencies
of less than 10 minutes in the underground core. Ticketing is provided by the New
South Wales My Zone and Opal card systems.
Sydney Trains operates quick, frequent and reliable trains in the greater Sydney
suburban area (bounded by Emu Plains; Berowra; Waterfall and Macarthur).
To provide a passenger service between midnight and 05:00 while leaving the tracks
clear of trains for maintenance work, parallel bus services were established in 1989.
Night Ride services operate typically at hourly intervals (some routes depart more
frequently on weekends). Night Ride services are contracted to
Large Universities Vs. Small Universities . To Put It Quite
Large Universities vs. Small Universities To put it quite frankly, college searches
are daunting for students, parents, and even guidance counselors. With a plethora of
universities offering a vast variety of courses and degrees available, searching for
one to settle down on can easily become a quagmire for some. One of the biggest
decisions to be made in this situation is the size of the university. Although at first
glance it may seem like a negligible detail, in fact, it can make or break a student s
collegeexperience. Large colleges have an incredible amount of majors to offer
students, while smaller ones may not have as many, yet find a way to tailor to
individual students. By that same token, large universities can have several... Show

The difference, besides the point that the University of Central Florida is more
like Blue Mountain State than a true institution, is that the University of Central
Florida offers over 100 majors, ranging from real estate, to theatre studio
management track, all the way to biotechnology. Yale, on the other hand, only had
53 majors as of 2015. Therefore, as a student who has groundwork all laid out, it
may be easier to go to a school where their major even exists, whereas an
undeclared student would perhaps prefer a school with limited yet welcoming
options. Smaller universities, although having limited options also may offer the
idea of independent study or may tailor a major towards a small group of students
with a specific subject matter in mind something far from possible in an enormous
school. In fact, Yale s undergraduate page reads, Not yet sure what you want to do
with your life? Don t worry. You have time. Most Yale students wait until sophomore
year before declaring a major. Therefore proving the idea that a smaller school allows
more academic freedom for students, which may be important to some. With many
majors, it is not surprising that larger universities are given more updated research
facilities and more research funding than a smaller school. On the contrary, reputable

Each artist had influenced movements, before Elvis was drafted to the army; he
attracted females for his good looks and use of sexuality in some of his lyrics.
After joining the army, he soon gathered a substantial amount of followers, not just
by women but men as well. He gained male followers because he was seen as a war

These two artists are key focal points for historical study as Johnny Cash played a
critical role in the Civil Rights movement almost making Johnny Cash lose his
career, after his crossover hit Ring of Fire and against strong resistance from his
record label, Cash recorded Bitter Tears, an album in support of Native American
rights. It was not a popular cause at the time. It s the earliest and most significant
statement on behalf of Native people and our issues. Elvis Presley was not only
lauded as the King of Rock for his large involvement in the change of music style
through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, but is also recognised by historians as making
the music of oppressed African American musicians rock music socially

Disney s Standard of Business Conduct highlights the organizations values which are
displayed within their business. The president for Disney says that they have earned
the trust of guests, audiences, consumers and shareholders because of our
commitment to high standards in everything we do, everywhere we operate (
Standards of business, 2012). The areas within the Standard of Business conduct are

William Clark Hathorne Historical Background
Nathaniel Hawthorne (born Hathorne) was born in Salem, Massachusetts, his parents
being Nathaniel and Elizabeth Clark Hathorne (Manning). Nathaniel Hawthorne s
life had been steeped into a Puritan legacy. One of his ancestors is most notably
known as William Hathorne, where he is mostly known as being one of three harsh
judges during the SalemWitch Trials (in where men and women alike were sentenced
and accused of using witchcraft). Nathaniel did not want to be known as being
related to his ancestor, and had later added a w to his last name to distance himself
from the family. This can also be seen in how he relates himself to his works, such
as The House of the Seven Gables, in which an ancestor of the Pyncheon family was
also a judge and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, I don t see that there is anything left for me but to be an author. He later met and
became engaged to Sophia Peabody, and was able to meet many transcendalists
thinkers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau. They had also
influenced Nathaniel s thinking on the importance of intuition, rather than intellect in
uncovering the truths of nature and human beings. However, he left this experiment
in November of 1841, and was left disillusioned with the viewpoint on the
community, exhausted from his work, and that without financial hope that he could
support a wife. Nathaniel and Sophia were able to marry later on in Boston on July
9th, in 1842. His son Julian was born in 1846, and 1851, their daughter Rose was
also born. Around the time of autumn in 1863, Nathaniel became sick. In May of
1864, he and his friend Franklin Pierce (an old classmate) went to New Hampshire in
search of improved health. Unfortunately, Nathaniel Hawthorne passes away in his
sleep on May 19th, 1864 in
An Analysis Of An Extract From The Parisian Gentleman
This is the analysis of an extract from The Parisian Gentleman, an online publication
addressed to the masculine public and specialised in classic clothing. This piece is

The text starts with a brief introduction to the matter by explaining how the upper

points and accurate references to certain codes used by them. The introduction is a
clear declaration of intentions and prepares the reader to a quick lesson in

Suggest to the reader that is better to wear something worn rather than a flamboyant
new piece of clothing. He also remarks on use the clothing as much one can;
therefore we understand that is better to invest in something lasting rather than the
trendy item. Gesell, suggests that the fact of inheriting clothes is a good thing,
except of course underwear. When selecting fibres he points out that we must use
only natural fibres, which suggests to the reader that the fact of choosing those
specific fibres added to the fact of inheriting clothes will help to create a timeless
look. Gesell is not constant with the advices given which suggests that the reader
should already have a sense of style and most important, common sense when
dressing. He also remarks that wearing overly trendy pieces will make the overall
look and intention the opposite as intended.
In conclusion, this guide is after all guidance for all those men who enjoy dressing
up and have a keen interest in men s fashions. The topics being discussed in this
piece have more to see with the perceptions that others have towards clothing. This
guide is not to be followed word by word, as exposed earlier, the reader must know
the basics of it therefore this is more a when you know the rules, you can break them

Holland Sweetener Essay
Introduction
The Holland Sweetener Company (HSC) is planning to enter the low calorie, high
intensity sweetener market which is currently dominated by NutraSweet. Below we
first analyze our target industry. Next we look at what kind of response should
HSC expect from NutraSweet upon its entry into this market. We will also analyze
few likely scenarios that could play out and we will try to estimate the likelihood of
each scenario. Based on our analysis, we will give a recommendation for HSC to
plan their entry into this market.
Industry Analysis
The low calorie, high intensity sweetener market has been dominated by one major
player, NutraSweet, with annual sales of $711M and about 80% market share (the
total market in 1986 was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, soft drinks manufacturers were its major customer (80% of the total
aspartame consumption) with table top product as the secondary (15% of total
aspartame consumption) . Notably, the soft drinks industry was dominated by two
major players Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola, accounting for 60% of the soft drinks
market. Usually, this would have led to a strong buyer power, however, NutraSweet
had the advantage due to its monopolistic position as the sole provider of aspartame.
This power could easily dissolve once the patents expire and alternative producers
enter this industry.
Figure 1 Aspartame Sales Distribution in 1986
Rivalry
In 1986, rivals presented a limited risk to the company due to NutraSweet s
monopolistic position in the production of aspartame. However, the development and
subsequent introduction of alternative low cal high intensity sweeteners, combined
with the trend of blending, presented a major risk for NutraSweet s product. Also, as
the patents for aspartame expire in the different regions NutraSweet will face
competition from alternative producers of aspartame as well.
NutraSweet s Anticipated Response to HSC s entry
NutraSweet s monopolistic position allowed it to earn generous margins by charging
a price premium. Consequently, Vermijs should anticipate an aggressive
Taking a Look at Quantum Dots
To begin with in layman s language or maybe for a person who has limited or little
knowledge about physics, quantum dots are materials that are small but are sufficient
to exhibit quantum mechanical properties. Quantum dots were first discovered in
1980. They exhibit electronic properties which are between semiconductors and
discrete molecules. That is the very reason for the unusually high surface to volume
ratio. The most visible use of quantum dots is in fluorescence where the nanocrystal
is capable of producing different distinctive colors determined by their particle size.
For the more experienced and the more technical personals, Quantum dots are
semiconductor nanostructures confining the motion of the conduction band
electrons, the valence band holes or the excitons and are in all the three spatial
directions. The excitons are confined to the three spatial directions only. There
would be a doubt about what excitons is thus the definition; an exciton is a state or
rather a bound state of an electron or a hole which are attracted to each other by the
coulombs force. They are neutral quasiparticles that are generally existent in
semiconductors and also in insulators. They may also be found in some liquids.
The reasons for confinement can be electrostatic potential which can be due to
external electrodes, strain, impurities and doping. According to a lot of research that
has been going on in this field, a quantum dot has a discrete quantized energy
spectrum.
Regional Negotiation Competition Analysis
Liberty University School of Law has the honor of hosting the ABA Law Student
Division Regional Negotiation Competition on this year. We will have competitors
representing many law schools from the surrounding states attend this competition. To
make this event successful, we need local attorneys and law school professors to
volunteer as judges for the competition. We would be greatly honored if you would
be willing to consider becoming part of this event and assisting the competitors in
continuing to grow their legal skills and knowledge. The ABA Law Student Division
s Negotiation Competition promotes greater interest among law students in legal
negotiation and provides a means for them to practice and improve their negotiating
skills. The
Sacrifice In The Odyssey
Homer might just be the greatest narrative author to have ever put ink on paper,
but what is truly undeniable is how much depth is put into his characters,
especially his heroes. The heroes of the Iliad and Odyssey are larger than life and
they embody what it means to be a Greek Hero. We would expect these heroes to be
everything great about man and not suffer any of the same things that the other
mortals experience. But Homer s heroes cry and they don t just cry, they weep. They
weep for loved ones, cry for the brutality of fate, and the lament the loss of that most
important thing: honor. In book one of the Iliadwe find Achilleus in a desperate
situation:
He led forth from the hut Briseis of the fair cheeks and gave her to be taken away; .
. . But Achilleus weeping went and sat in sorrow apart from his companions beside
the beach of the gray sea looking out on the infinite water.
Many times stretching forth his hands he called on his mother:
Since, my mother, you bore me to be a man with a short life,
Therefore Zeus of the loud thunder on Olympos should grant me
Honor at least. But now he has given me not even a little.
Now the son of Atreus, powerful Agamemnon,
Has dishonored me, since he has taken away my prize and keeps it. 1
Achilleus, the greatest fighter in the Iliad, is weeping on the beach, certainly this is
not the hero we are meant to idealize. But if one pushes past the surface we see that
Homer is attempting to teach us something cosmic about tears, a ... Show more

Importance In The English Church In Twelfth Night By...
At the end of the sixteenth century through the beginning of the seventeenth century,
a political and religious movement threatened to attack the soul of England. The
English Puritans started this movement because they wanted to purify England of
Catholic ceremonies. Twelfth Night is a reference to January sixth the final day in a
twelve day Christmas celebration. English Puritans didn t like the Catholic tradition
of everything being turned upside down. Hunt states:
In the other case, closely associated with Elizabethan puritanism, Providence works
more immediately upon mortals, with a de emphasis upon the importance of those
persons or natural forces helping to create the design of God. Shakespeare in
Twelfth Night reprises this controversy within the English Church, contrasting, in
the dramatic portraits of Malvolio and Viola, a caricature of a viewpoint
represented by puritans ......Portraying puritanical Malvolio s notion of Providence
as self serving, Shakespeare satirizes his character s belief in the unmediated,
unearned, material blessing of the elect. In Twelfth Night, Shakespeare endorses a
more removed, less easily knowable deity who works through secondary agents such
as the sea to reward individuals who have had to earn their blessing by selflessly
serving others. (278)
Throughout Twelfth Night, Shakespeare alludes to the conflict going on in England
between the Puritans and the Catholics. Even the title Twelfth Night is in conflict
since Shakespeare also named

Industrial and Organizational Psychology
INTRODUCTION Effective Communication is significant for managers in the
organizations so as to perform the basic functions of management, i.e., Planning,
Organizing, Leading and Controlling. Communication helps managers to perform
their jobs and responsibilities. Communication serves as a foundation for planning.
All the essential information must be communicated to the managers who in turn
must communicate the plans so as to implement them. Organizing also requires
effective communication with others about their job task. Similarly leaders as
managers must communicate effectively with their subordinates so as to achieve the
team goals. Controlling is not possible without written and oral communication.
Managers devote a great part of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any change in plans might be communicated with the employees in advance so that
resistance may not come from them. Communication helps the organization in this
regard by supplying information to the employee. CHARACTERISTICS OF
COMMUNICATIONS: Segmented: Even in small organizations, it is wrong to
assume that all employees will have the same needs, interests and desires when it
comes to business communication. Effective business communication is segmented
to meet the needs of specific audiences. Employees working in an administrative
setting, for instance, will have different needs and different access to information
than employees working in a manufacturing environment. Specific: Generic business
communication doesn t meet the needs of anyone. Effective business communication
is specific. The more specific communication is, the more it meets the needs of its
audience. Accurate: When information is inaccurate it loses its credibility. The
sender of the information also loses credibility. Effective business communication is
accurate in terms of the content conveyed and in terms of simple things that include
grammar, spelling and punctuation. Timely: Employees need to know what is going
on in their organizations and in the external environment that impacts them. Today s
technology driven environment makes it more challenging than ever before for
businesses to communicate with employees in a timely manner,
Count Olaf Argumentative Essay
I was in the 2nd grade when I met Count Olaf. Not in person, no. Through words, I
stumbled upon the greasy, unibrowed actor. As I read book after book in Lemony
Snicket s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Count Olaf came to life, and inspired to
no end. Count Olaf is a distant relative of the Baudelaire orphans. He is chasing
their fortune by hatching schemes to become their guardian. Some call him
sleazy, greedy, evil. I call him determined, creative, and resourceful. He is an
instrumental figure in my life, guiding my choices and speaking to my future. He
is responsible for my path in theatre and is fueling my creativity. My motivation to
do well and positive outlook on life, start and end with Count Olaf. I learned most
of what I know about acting from Count Olaf. Ever since I read that he was the
leader of an acting troupe, I have been inspired to live a life on the stage. Count
Olaf disguises himself into many different personalities. When I am playing a
character, I ask myself WWCOD? (What would Count Olaf do?) Would he portray
this character as overly dramatic? Or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though fictional, Count Olaf taught me so much about acceptance. He employs a
variety of people. One of his henchman has a hook. Count Olaf does not see
Fernald as a freakish creature. He sees him as a valuable accomplice. Who else
would employ ex convicts, some even current convicts, other than Count Olaf? He
taught me to not be quick to judge. His future girlfriend and co conspirator, Esme
Squalor, seems to be an airhead upon a first glance. However, she proves herself to
be a smart and capable member of Olaf s team. It doesn t matter to Count Olaf that
she is a woman. What matters to Olaf is how effective she is at carrying out his
creative schemes. If I ever find myself judging someone, I stop and ask WWCOD?
Then, I take a breath and ask them to be one of my

Things Fall Apart Book Review Essay. Things fall apart essay

  • 1. Things Fall Apart Book Review Essay Writing an essay on the topic "Things Fall Apart Book Review" can be both challenging and rewarding. The complexity of this task lies in the need to carefully analyze the intricate layers of Chinua Achebe's masterpiece. The novel delves into the rich cultural tapestry of the Igbo people while exploring themes of colonialism, cultural clash, and the consequences of societal change. To begin with, one must thoroughly read and comprehend the novel, paying close attention to the characters, plot, and underlying messages. A comprehensive understanding of the historical and cultural context in which the story unfolds is crucial. This requires extensive research into the Igbo society and the impact of British colonization on African communities during the late 19th century. Crafting a thoughtful and nuanced analysis demands a keen literary insight. Exploring the protagonist, Okonkwo, and the supporting characters involves dissecting their motivations, conflicts, and character arcs. Identifying symbolism, themes, and narrative techniques employed by Achebe adds depth to the analysis. The task also involves critically examining the novel's portrayal of cultural clashes and the consequences of colonialism, bringing in relevant scholarly perspectives. Moreover, a successful essay requires a coherent structure that effectively communicates the analysis. This involves organizing ideas logically, developing a strong thesis statement, and supporting arguments with evidence from the text. Balancing summary with analysis is crucial to ensure the essay goes beyond mere description and engages in a meaningful interpretation of the book. Additionally, addressing the broader literary and historical context, including Achebe's role in post-colonial literature, enhances the essay's depth. Evaluating the novel's impact on literature and its relevance in contemporary society adds another layer of complexity. In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on "Things Fall Apart" requires a blend of literary analysis, historical understanding, and critical thinking. • 2. Analysis Of The Poem Birches And Hanging Fire By... For some people, their childhood may have been the best time of their lives, but for others, it could just be many years of memories they dread remembering. Regardless of how someone feels about it, childhood is a critical part of life. In the poems Birches by Robert Frost and Hanging Fire by Audre Lorde, the authors explore what it is like to be a childand the major transition from childhoodto adulthood. While Frost does so through the voice of an adult, Lorde chose to accomplish this from a child s perspective. Although, the speakers are not the only aspects of the poem that sets them apart. In Birches , Frost describes childhood as a simplistic, carefree and innocent time, while in Hanging Fire , Lorde emphasizes the never ending struggles children face when growing up. However, the speakers of the poems do share a common challenge in maintaining personal relationships throughout childhood and beyond. In Birches , the speaker thinks of childhood as a time of innocence, where everything is easy going and immaturity is acceptable. Instead of believing that the birches are being bent by ice storms, he likes to picture that they are like that due to an adventurous, carefree child. He specifically says, I should prefer to have some boy bend them/ As he went out and in to fetch the cows / Some boy too far from town to learn baseball,/ Whose only play was what he found himself,/ Summer or Winter, and he could play alone . Essentially, instead of believing in a

In this novel the protagonist is a fictional character that Hammett created and named Sam Spade. Sam is a private detective hired by another character in the novel named Brigid O Shaughnessy. Being a detective comes with many job responsibilities and being a private detective becomes even more complicated. In Hammett s novel there are many conflicts throughout his writing. Most conflicts have to do with Spade in some form considering he is the detective and also the protagonist. Are the conflicts in the story relating to Spade within himself; man versus self, or caused by another character; man versus man? When it comes to conflicts in literature there are two main types; internal and external. There are multiple different types of conflicts that can appear in literature, usually all stories or novels have at least one conflict. What is a story without a conflict? An internal conflict is a conflict that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has to do with the conflict between two characters in a writing. Man versus. man has to do with the differences in morals, beliefs, or ethics between the two characters. It can also have to do with an emotional or physical encounter. Man versus nature is when a conflict is created between the character and nature its self. Lastly when an issue with a character and their government or society comes up in literature that is called man versus society. Within the story The Maltese Falcon Sam Spade deals with multiple conflicts throughout Hammett s writing. Although some conflicts in the story are due to external factors, Sam Spades conflicts are internal conflicts. This means Spades conflicts are man versus self. Sam Spade faces conflicts with other characters but the reason for these conflicts and how Sam Spade handles the conflicts, are due to internal factors like his morals, beliefs, values, and

The legal issue Should the Plaintiffs really get the $1.3 million ordered by the Courts? Should they be awarded any money for their other cost and losses ? The holding of the court It was found that no, Good Year Tire Rubber Company was not responsible for the other cost and losses of the Plaintiffs. Good Year was not obligated to pay the Plaintiffs since there was no agreement made for payment. The error that was found was bought to Good Year s attention but the attorneys failed to agree on the correct amount. What do you think? I think that Good Year Tires should pay the Plaintiffs the correct amount from the parentages the courts ordered them to pay. The Plaintiffs attorneys should have ensured they make an agreement on their behalf once the discrepancy was found. The emails and charts was a start but the best thing Brooks could have

  • 6. Ibuprofen And Acetaminophen The scenario for this experiment is to determine the chemical structures for two new compounds called Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. In order to determine the structures of these compounds, we will utilize three different instruments that will create spectra that will be analyzed in order to determine the structures of the compounds. The instruments that we will use for this experiment include Gas ChromatographyMass Spectrometry (GC/MS), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR). Each instrument provides information that can be combined in order to determine the specific characteristics and functional groups that will lead to structural determination. Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) utilizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two major forms of NMR that we will be using, and these forms are proton NMR and Carbon 13 NMR. For analyzing Ibuprofen, we will use two dimensional NMR techniques, and for analyzing Acetaminophen, we will use one dimensional H1 NMR and C13 NMR (if the spectrum provides usable data). Out of the instruments that will be used for this experiment, the NMR will allow us to determine the specific structure. The other instruments give us an idea of the molecular mass and functional groups associated with the compounds, but those instruments do not show the relationships between hydrogens or carbons. H1 NMR spectra will provide splitting peaks that represent the proton environment for a given hydrogen set within a structure. The two dimensional NMR technique for hydrogen environments is called Correlation Spectroscopy (COSY), and this technique show the splitting shown by H1 NMR, but it also provides a spectrum that can show hydrogen couplings within the structure. These couplings provide tremendous information when determining molecular structures. The 2D technique for Carbon 13 NMR is called Distortionless Enhancement by Polarization Transfer (DEPT), and this technique is helpful in structural determination because it produces three C13 spectra that show specific Carbon Hydrogen environments (how many Hydrogens are

  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of School To Prison Pipeline What is school to prison pipeline? In the last decade, the punitive and overzealous tools and approaches of the modern criminal justice system have seeped into our schools, serving to remove children from mainstream educational environments and funnel them onto a one way path toward prison. These various policies, collectively referred to as the School to Prison Pipeline, push children out of school and hasten their entry into the juvenile, and eventually the criminal, justice system, where prison is the end of the road. Historical inequities, such as segregated education, concentrated poverty, and racial disparities in law enforcement, all feed the pipeline. The School to Prison Pipeline is one of the most urgent challenges in education today. (NAACP 2005) School to Prison Pipeline is a zero tolerance policy enforced by the school, police officer, and a judge. It is punishable by a ticket, court appearance, and even put away in prison or a juvenile detention center. Also, includes the presence of a police officer at the schools, which can include harsh tactics, physical restraint, punishments that result in suspensions, expulsion, or push out of class. Why are we letting this happen to your kids? If these children are supposed to be the next generation, we must help them not end up in prison, for minimal things they do. Who is in the Pipeline? There are two groups of students in the Pipeline, racial minorities and children with disabilities. In 2000, African
  • 10. Business Chain Of Command Or Hierarchical Structure Upward/downward communication occurs when information and messages are trickled through an organization or business chain of command or hierarchical structure (Grimsley, Study.com). An easier description of upward/downward communication is the concept of messages and commands starting from the upper levels of an organization or business which is then facilitated towards lower levels through smooth communicationfrom the employer or whoever is in charge. Advantages of having effective upward downward communication is organizational discipline, work efficiency, communication of goals and the ease of delegation (Grimsley, Study.com). Discipline is implemented due to the main emphasis of upward downward communication within the organization. Delegation of assignments and projects throughout the organization is done with ease; this represents the chain of command. Upward downward communication forces employees to work together while creating a competitive environment. The chain of command is represented through upward downward communication. In order to make your way to the top of the chain, it forces employees to hold a strong work ethic , while keeping in mind the best interest of the organization. Competition is healthy, the workforce teaches individuals to never have a sense of complacency or incompetence. If you can t do the job, then someone else will. When it specifically comes to downward communication the best interest of the company is in mind. Efficiency is offered due

Technology And Its Architecture For The 21st Century Essay In this scenario, this customer has invested in Hadoop, in database, and in memory technologies to modernized their its architecture for the 21st twenty first century. 1.The data has two paths. Depending on the type, the data can go into the enterprise data warehouse if it is structured data. If it is semi structured data such as detectors and sensors, they go into Hadoop that acts as a data lake to collect a sample of the following sources of data: Wayside detectors. : These sensors identify spot defect such as overheated bearings and damaged wheels, dragging hoses, deteriorating bearings, cracked wheels, and excessively high or wide load on passing rail cars. Acoustic detector systems. : These trackside systems use acoustic signatures to gauge the sound and condition of internal bearings and identify those nearing breakdownfailure. They supplement or replace systems that measure the heat that bearings generate to identify those in the process of deteriorating. Track geometry cars. : These technology rich cars utilize sophisticated electronic and optical devices to inspect track alignment, gauge, curvature, and other track conditionsso on. A new vehicle track interaction system is also used to locate difficult to find track geometry defects. This information helps railroads determine when track needs maintenance. Ground penetrating radar. : This technology assists in identifying isolating below ground problems such as excessive water penetration that hampers
  • 12. How Did Nationalism Affect Italy At The Turn Of The 18th... In the 1800 s, a new sense swept throughout Europe, uprooting the old order of Europe. Nationalism, a belief that people s greatest loyalty should be to a nation of people who share a common culture and history. So strong that it challenged the old order of Europe by inspiring revolutions and helping Italy and Germanyto unite and in return uproot the past European order. By 1815, the Congress of Vienna had ended and in return created five great powers: England, France, Austria, Prussia, and Russia. In the U.S. healthcare is outrageously expensive. Even with Obamacare, some people can t afford it. Costa Rica has universal healthcare, which has been up and running for more than 70 years, where everybody is cover. In an article written by Chris Gilbert for the Centre Daily Times he explains, Under the universal system, every Costa Rican citizen has health care coverage and can use the public system. (Gilbert, 2014). As stated in a report written by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.); The Costa Rican healthcare system is one of the few in Latin America that actually offers almost complete, universal coverage, both financial and geographical, an achievement that is sustained in a financing strategy based upon the contributions of workers, employers, and the State, typical of social securities. The War On Drugs And Drugs James Gombas 10/4/15 Political Economic Thought When President Richard Nixon called for increased federal spending in an attempt to curb the number of drug users and the sale and importation of illicit narcotics the war on drugs began in earnest. The war on drugs has also played a major role in politics as well as having a significant impact on the economy. While there are many arguments in favor for the war on drugs and an equal number of arguments against it I will attempt to show an unbiased look at the war on drugs and drug prohibition and how it has affected society as a whole. Since 1971 the United States government has spent $1,000,000,000,000 on the war on drugs. This is a staggering number and shows how much money is spent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The massive increase in those incarcerated has also led to the growth of the prison system and in the U.S. alone the amount spent on prisons rose 127% from 1987 to 2007. This also led to the creation of the prison industrial complex which is a collection of private prisons. These prisons profit off of those they incarcerate and directly benefit from the drug war and the increase in incarceration rates. Some groups such as the DEA argue that the money spent on drug legalization is minimal compared to the social costs of drug abuse and addiction . An important aspect of the war on drugs is that while the federal budget for drug enforcement in 2009 was 14.8 billion the budget for education was over 137.6 billion. This brings up an interesting point in that education is seen as a serious social issue so addiction should also be looked at in the same way. When looking at the war on drugs it is important to keep in mind that the goal is to eradicate drug abuse and henceforth create a better, safer environment for all citizens. Lastly, the DEA makes the point that through legislation the consumption of drugs has decreased. The war on drugs in the U.S. is mainly a supply side war which targets drug importers and users in an attempt to cut the supply of illicit drugs instead of focusing on the rehabilitation of users which would help decrease the demand for illegal

Also, historical documentation has emphasized the use of technology in life insurance as well as pension funds as early as the World War II era. Yates (1997,p.60 and 1999,p.5) stated that in the 1950s life insurance was introduced to the use of computers as soon as they were available to commercial firms. He further elaborated on how insurance companies impacted the electro mechanical punched card tabulating equipment technology since they were the primary users of the punch card machines during the late 1940s and 1950s. Figure 1 below shows an image of a punched card. Figure 1: IBM punched card (Ceruzzi, 2003) During the second world war, many mathematically trained actuaries and other insurance employees were recruited to work on military projects involving statistics, code breaking, bombsights and operations research while a few worked on the new computer technology being developed during the war (Yates 1999,p.5). Natural and Sexual Selection of Vestigial and Wild Type Drosophila melanogaster Abstract In this experiment, vestigial flies as well as wild type flies were used to create some diversity as well as test one of our hypotheses. The wild type has a relative fitness of 1 since it has fully functional wings. Vestigial Winged flies are not as sexually appealing since their wings are not functional and the wing movement is a vital part of their mating ritual. 2) The vestigial fly will have a greater relative fitness when considering both sexual and natural selection. The bananas chosen to be an accelerant for the growth of the yeast and were frozen so they would be easier to cut. The yeast was used because the drosophila melanogaster prefer this as a food source. The vestigial and wild type flies were sexed (to determine their sex), sorted, and counted. An initial population size of 100 total flies was decided so that it would be easier to determine the phenotypic percentage of the total population. Fly paper was placed in one of the sets of cages to impose a method of natural selection as well as the sexual selection which is being solely tested by the other set of cages. It was decided that there would be 80 vestigial flies and 20 wild type flies to total to an initial population of 100 drosophila. Next, the flies were anesthetized flies using Fly Nap. The flies were counted out to reach desired ratio, sexing the flies making sure there are equal amounts of males and females to be sure there is ample individuals to allow successful mating. Analysis of the Article 1% by Joseph Stiglitz In the article Of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1% Joseph Stiglitz, a noble prize winning economist, argues that the upper 1% controls about 40% of all wealth in America. This top 1% has taken about a quarter of all income in America, and has seen their income rise about 18% in the past decade. This has made the inequality between classes in the US expand. Eventually, this inequality gap will even hurt the top 1%, because the other 99% will either fight for a bigger piece or just stop working all together. The top 1% can buy anything they need, but their fate realizes on the other 99% to work hard and not fight back. If the 99% stopped working, there would be a simple way to gain back money... that would be to raise taxes on the rich. However, the rich get rich by capital gains, which have a low tax policy. So overall, the upper percent can eventually learn, but a majority of the time it is too little too late. Throughout the article, Stiglitz approaches the topic of the 1% and how that prestigious group rarely tries benefiting anyone besides his or her self. Joseph Stiglitz gets that point across and explains it well within his article. The topic of the 1% only benefiting his or her self is extensively explained in the statement about the rich not caring about common problems. The rich has a large sum of money that they could invest into infrastructure, education, war and technology, but the upper 1% does not wantto do that because it does benefit that group enough. I

  • 25. A Literary And Historical Standpoint Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object driven analyses of Shakespeare s First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, the story of the object asserting itself as a thing. By treating the First Folio as only a book meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in a subject object binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a code by which our interpretive attention makes them meaningful (Brown 4). This line of thinking is problematic because the object then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see that it has knowledge with or without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary allows for the thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes it is the subject that totalizes the world (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely passively impacted by the world but actively impacts the world with its presence. However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits our study of it. Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object becoming a thing. Before I further my argument I want to take a moment to fully examine the difference between an object and a thing and why current scholarship has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing.

The price of one of these consoles, the Tascam Digital Portastudio 788, at Musiciansfriend.com, is $899.99 [1]. This console, although seemingly expensive, is much more cost effective than paying for an entire studio, and can achieve nearly the same results. The real benefit of a digital recording console, however, is the creative control it bestows upon musicians. Instead of having a producer who dictates how the recording should sound, the musician becomes the producer, giving him complete control over all aspects of the composition. Additionally, because of the cost of studio recording, a musician s time in the studio is usually limited. However, with a personal digital recording console, one can freely experiment with new ideas without time constraints. While this unmediated recording environment theoretically provides an artist with unlimited creative flexibility, it also allows for detrimental misuse in the form of non original composition, which can negate the creative possibilities of this new artistic process. The accessibility and simplicity of the unmediated digital recording process enable individuals, who otherwise would not be involved in music recording, damage the reputation

When Lincoln gave his Inaugural Address he attempted to do so in a way that would not dissuade his chances of gaining support in the southern states, especially when it involved the institution of slavery. Although Lincoln was very tolerant of the institution of slavery in the Southern States even though he did not fully support it, he did not stand for a nation divided. As the southern states continued to remove themselves from the Union, Lincoln feared they were attempting to disrupt the order of things in the nation. The Union of States is considered to be perpetual. It is the fundamental law of all national governments; no government would allow provisions in its constitution that would allow for it to be terminated. He states that since the beginning of the Union there has been progression only towards strengthening the Union and the establishment of the Constitution was to form a more perfect Union (671). With a plethora of universities offering a vast variety of courses and degrees available, searching for one to settle down on can easily become a quagmire for some. One of the biggest decisions to be made in this situation is the size of the university. Yale, on the other hand, only had 53 majors as of 2015. Therefore, as a student who has groundwork all laid out, it may be easier to go to a school where their major even exists, whereas an undeclared student would perhaps prefer a school with limited yet welcoming options. Smaller universities, although having limited options also may offer the idea of independent study or may tailor a major towards a small group of students with a specific subject matter in mind something far from possible in an enormous school. • 44. Taking a Look at Quantum Dots To begin with in layman s language or maybe for a person who has limited or little knowledge about physics, quantum dots are materials that are small but are sufficient to exhibit quantum mechanical properties. Quantum dots were first discovered in 1980. They exhibit electronic properties which are between semiconductors and discrete molecules. That is the very reason for the unusually high surface to volume ratio. The most visible use of quantum dots is in fluorescence where the nanocrystal is capable of producing different distinctive colors determined by their particle size. For the more experienced and the more technical personals, Quantum dots are semiconductor nanostructures confining the motion of the conduction band electrons, the valence band holes or the excitons and are in all the three spatial directions. The excitons are confined to the three spatial directions only. There would be a doubt about what excitons is thus the definition; an exciton is a state or rather a bound state of an electron or a hole which are attracted to each other by the coulombs force. They are neutral quasiparticles that are generally existent in semiconductors and also in insulators. They may also be found in some liquids. The reasons for confinement can be electrostatic potential which can be due to external electrodes, strain, impurities and doping. According to a lot of research that has been going on in this field, a quantum dot has a discrete quantized energy spectrum.

Sacrifice In The Odyssey Homer might just be the greatest narrative author to have ever put ink on paper, but what is truly undeniable is how much depth is put into his characters, especially his heroes. The heroes of the Iliad and Odyssey are larger than life and they embody what it means to be a Greek Hero. We would expect these heroes to be everything great about man and not suffer any of the same things that the other mortals experience. But Homer s heroes cry and they don t just cry, they weep. They weep for loved ones, cry for the brutality of fate, and the lament the loss of that most important thing: honor. In book one of the Iliadwe find Achilleus in a desperate situation: He led forth from the hut Briseis of the fair cheeks and gave her to be taken away; . . . But Achilleus weeping went and sat in sorrow apart from his companions beside the beach of the gray sea looking out on the infinite water. Hunt states: In the other case, closely associated with Elizabethan puritanism, Providence works more immediately upon mortals, with a de emphasis upon the importance of those persons or natural forces helping to create the design of God.
