Extend co-operation to all organizations and academic institutions of the country involved in the study of Marine
sciences and to provide shipboard facilities to them for carrying out observations to the sea. Detect different
environmental issues (Coast,deep sea circulation, island formation, water flow etc.) and to detect environmental
hazard (Oil spelling, dumping, blast water, deforestation effect etc.) and climate issues (Co2, O3 layer, ice melting,
coral destruction etc.)
-Study oceanographic parameters which influence the distribution and abundance of fisheries resources,
shrimp, and mollusks and Develop coastal aqua culture and Mari culture.
-Use of wind,wave,water,temperature and other alternative sources of energy from sea
-Generate employment opportunity in Mari culture and related trading.
-Promote tourism and recreation by establishment of Sea Park and marine aquarium etc.
According to the National Oceanography Research Institute Law 2013, Ministry of Science & Technology
and Cabinet wants to established recently.
Providing education,research and training in Marine Sciences and
utilization of this knowledge for inventory and exploration of marine resources and protection of marine environment.
Ensure sustainable extraction of petroleum resources without disturbing ecological balance
Diverse and abundant marine and coastal life forms and mineral & petroleum resources as well as the potential
use of tidal and wave energy is becoming increasingly important to ensure the socio - economic development and
full filling the strategic objective of the country.

National Oceanography Research Institute
The longtime maritime dispute between Bangladesh & Myanmar came to an end after the international tribunal
for the law of the sea gave its final verdict on 14 March, 2012.Bangladesh has now been awarded 1,11,000
sq.km of exclusive economic zone in the bay of Bengal,almost the same size of Bangladesh which includes all
resources currently available for exploitation and all resources that may be discovered in future. Bangladesh is now
able to utilize the area that had been in dispute for 38 years. A UN tribunal has awarded Bangladesh 19,467 sq km,
or nearly four-fifths of the 25,602 sq km sea area caught up in dispute with India.
This marine and associated coastal zone is characterized by sprawling estuaries,dense mangrove forest,coral
reef island and the world' s longest sea beach.There are many sedimentary islands in the estuary and along the
coastline, and about seven sq.km of new land emerges from the sea every year (ITLOS, 2010).
1.Physical Oceanography
- study of physical condition with in the ocean
temperature and circulation. Study of the motions
of sea water, particularly waves currents and tidal
motion
3.Biological Oceanography
-Study of organisms in the ocean or other brackish
bodies of water. Animals-birds, fish invertebrates ,
mammals, reptiles, Fungi -plants algae Microscopic
life. study of life in the oceans, includes marine
biology and ecology
5.Geological Oceanography
-study of geophysical , geochemical, sedimento
logical and paleonto logical object of ocean floor
provides critical evidence for sea floor spreading
and plate tectonics. study of the shape and geologic
features of the ocean floor
4.Ecological Oceanography
-Study of how organism interact with each other
and the environments . Marine habitats intertidal and
shore, reef, open ocean. An active research topic- to
discover and map in life cycle of various species and
where they spend their time .
2.Chemical Oceanography
-Study of ocean chemistry Ocean contain nearly every
element in periodic table. Cycling of chemical element.
Study of behavior of isotopes to trace past and present
oceanographic &climatic processes.
- chemistry of seawater and reactions between the
atmosphere and hydrosphere. More recently looks at
how changes in sea water temperature(El Nino) and
salinity affect global climate
6.Climate & Atmospherical
-Climate & Atmospherical is the climatic typical of the
West coasts at the middle latitudes of most continents,
and generally features Warm, but not hot summer
and cool, but not cold winter,& a relatively narrow
annual temperature rang.

  • 2. Extend co-operation to all organizations and academic institutions of the country involved in the study of Marine sciences and to provide shipboard facilities to them for carrying out observations to the sea. Detect different environmental issues (Coast,deep sea circulation, island formation, water flow etc.) and to detect environmental hazard (Oil spelling, dumping, blast water, deforestation effect etc.) and climate issues (Co2, O3 layer, ice melting, coral destruction etc.) -Study oceanographic parameters which influence the distribution and abundance of fisheries resources, shrimp, and mollusks and Develop coastal aqua culture and Mari culture. -Use of wind,wave,water,temperature and other alternative sources of energy from sea -Generate employment opportunity in Mari culture and related trading. -Promote tourism and recreation by establishment of Sea Park and marine aquarium etc. According to the National Oceanography Research Institute Law 2013, Ministry of Science & Technology and Cabinet wants to established recently. Providing education,research and training in Marine Sciences and utilization of this knowledge for inventory and exploration of marine resources and protection of marine environment. Ensure sustainable extraction of petroleum resources without disturbing ecological balance Diverse and abundant marine and coastal life forms and mineral & petroleum resources as well as the potential use of tidal and wave energy is becoming increasingly important to ensure the socio - economic development and full filling the strategic objective of the country. National Oceanography Research Institute (NORI) National Oceanography Research Institute The longtime maritime dispute between Bangladesh & Myanmar came to an end after the international tribunal for the law of the sea gave its final verdict on 14 March, 2012.Bangladesh has now been awarded 1,11,000 sq.km of exclusive economic zone in the bay of Bengal,almost the same size of Bangladesh which includes all resources currently available for exploitation and all resources that may be discovered in future. Bangladesh is now able to utilize the area that had been in dispute for 38 years. A UN tribunal has awarded Bangladesh 19,467 sq km, or nearly four-fifths of the 25,602 sq km sea area caught up in dispute with India. This marine and associated coastal zone is characterized by sprawling estuaries,dense mangrove forest,coral reef island and the world' s longest sea beach.There are many sedimentary islands in the estuary and along the coastline, and about seven sq.km of new land emerges from the sea every year (ITLOS, 2010).

Study of the motions of sea water, particularly waves currents and tidal motion 3.Biological Oceanography -Study of organisms in the ocean or other brackish bodies of water. Animals-birds, fish invertebrates , mammals, reptiles, Fungi -plants algae Microscopic life. study of life in the oceans, includes marine biology and ecology 5.Geological Oceanography -study of geophysical , geochemical, sedimento logical and paleonto logical object of ocean floor provides critical evidence for sea floor spreading and plate tectonics. study of the shape and geologic features of the ocean floor 4.Ecological Oceanography -Study of how organism interact with each other and the environments . Marine habitats intertidal and shore, reef, open ocean. An active research topic- to discover and map in life cycle of various species and where they spend their time . 2.Chemical Oceanography -Study of ocean chemistry Ocean contain nearly every element in periodic table. Cycling of chemical element. Study of behavior of isotopes to trace past and present oceanographic &climatic processes. - chemistry of seawater and reactions between the atmosphere and hydrosphere. More recently looks at how changes in sea water temperature(El Nino) and salinity affect global climate 6.Climate & Atmospherical -Climate & Atmospherical is the climatic typical of the West coasts at the middle latitudes of most continents, and generally features Warm, but not hot summer and cool, but not cold winter,& a relatively narrow annual temperature rang.
