Vlad Trifa presents on the Web of Things and EVRYTHNG's technology. The Web of Things aims to connect physical objects to the web by giving them a unique digital identity and RESTful API. EVRYTHNG provides a platform and services to manage these digital identities at scale, connect diverse physical objects, and build applications on top of real-time object data. Their goal is for every physical thing to have a persistent identity on the web.
IndianaJS - Building spatially aware web sites for the Web of ThingsTECO Research Group
While almost any device today may have a virtual representation, the web itself is not yet a very physical experience. Bringing proven spatial interaction and ubiquitous computing paradigms to life using current web technology, we designed IndianaJS, a JavaScript framework to add a physical browsing experience to any Web of Things content. The evaluation of the IoT-Radar, built on top of our library, shows that web-based hyper-reality can still achieve a unique user experience 15 years after the first implementations.
This presentation introduces the library, showcases our physical browser - the IoT Compass, and presents the results of our usability study. It was presented the Web of Things Workshop within the International Conference on the Internet of Things 2015 in Seoul, South Korea.

Chapter 07 (PART 01)
Configuration of Smart Environments Made SimpleSimon Mayer
We present an approach that combines semantic metadata and reasoning with a visual modeling tool to enable the goal-driven configuration of smart environments for end users. In contrast to process-driven systems where service mashups are statically defined, this approach makes use of embedded semantic API descriptions to dynamically create mashups that fulfill the user's goal. The main advantage of the presented system is its high degree of flexibility, as service mashups can adapt to dynamic environments and are fault-tolerant with respect to individual services becoming unavailable. To support end users in expressing their goals, we integrated a visual programming tool with our system. This tool enables users to model the desired state of their smart environment graphically and thus hides the technicalities of the underlying semantics and the reasoning. Possible applications of the presented system include the configuration of smart homes to increase individual well-being, and reconfigurations of smart environments, for instance in the industrial automation or healthcare domains.

Chapter 07 (PART 02)
Internet of things (IoT) has started growing due to the developments in RFID, sensors, communication technologies and Internet protocols. The basic aim is to connect sensors in a straight line devoid of human association in the vicinity of help in creation of new types applications. The revolution in mobile, Internet in addition to machine-to-machine (M2M) technologies preserve is seen when the primary step towards IoT. Internet of Things (IoT) is forwarding the association among the objects (the “things”) and the backend systems passing through the Internet. Every object can become connected and smart. As a result, the background is monitored via sensing the background furthermore the data are transferred toward cloud with internet connectivity of the things. The monitoring environment comes closer in spite of distance. There are several platforms that provide services such as data analytics, business analytics, notification, etc. Each platform provides a specific service In this expose, we examine a delegate section of these platforms, together open- source and proprietary, on the source of their capability to convene the potential of dissimilar IoT users. The evaluation focuses on how prepared and functional these platforms are for IoT ecology players, other than on the peculiarities of the essential scientific layers. This paper mainly aims to provide a summary of different platforms and stages for IOT. This paper would help the IoT users to decide their best platform to suit their application.

Join us to talk about Microsoft’s OS convergence journey and what that means for us developers. See how easy it is to take your existing website experience into the Windows Store.
Connecting Physical Devices to the Web - Event Driven Architecture using WebS...Peter Moskovits
Before the Web, clients connected to back-end servers without compromises. As the Web came along with HTTP, we had to give up some of the power of our connectivity. With the evolving open Web communications standards, now we have a unique opportunity to move on from a request-response based REST world to a true, event-driven architecture. Learn what it takes to connect physical devices, such as Arduino and the Rasberry Pi to collect sensor data, or control physical devices over the Web.
Commercial aviation's biggest challenge when things go wrong is that flight data is stuck on the plane inside the black box. Until the black box is recovered, we barely know anything about what went wrong. This presentation offers detailed insights into how IoT and modern Web communications concepts have the power to change all this.
If you're a maker, you will learn about "flight sensors" attached and controlled by Arduino, data transmitted over long range WiFi as well as satellite networks. If interested in real-time Web communications, you'll learn about a highly secure WebSocket implementation with extreme scale, publishing flight data to tablets and laptops used as monitoring dashboard. If protocol layering, enterprise messaging, or JMS is your thing, this talk is for you.
Code samples and plenty of interactive live demos (with Things) add color to the talk.
Shoppers are more engaged when they have access to timely and relevant information.
When used for internal education, employees are more engaged and better prepared to assist customers. There are also revenue generating opportunities for those retailers who (securely) share their beacon networks.
A single Eddystone-URL beacon, managed with PHY.net, can serve different content to different Physical Web browsers. In other words, retailers can lease their beacon networks to brands. Imagine shoppers using a product’s branded app to see rebate information… Using the store’s app offering extra loyalty rewards if purchased today… Or an open beacon browser like Chrome, promoting an incentive to download the store’s branded app for sign-up rewards points or a special coupon.
Shoppers can also benefit from this app approach if they choose to filter results in their app and only show beacons that are relevant to that location or brand.
No worries of seeing the nail salon’s beacons next door, or the random Twitter feed being broadcast by another shopper’s personal beacon.

NFC vs iBeacon ? NFC+iBeacon !!

What is IoT and how Modulus and Pacific can Help - Featuring Node.js and Roll...Eduardo Pelegri-Llopart
Presentation at Progress Exchange 2014.
The Internet of Things is everywhere, from the connected home to the connected car, from smart watches to smart glasses, from beacons to smart thermostats. In this session we will provide an updated view of the IOT space and we will show you how Pacific technology like Node.js and Rollbase can be used to build IOT applications.
The presentation included a demo showing how Node.js and MongoDB can be used to process a GPS feed (from vehicles like snow plows), using MongoDB to store the data. The data is then presented to Rollbase as an external source where it can be combined with other sources in model-driven productivity applications. The content is also exposed via REST through a SPA using AngularJS and through an Apache Cordova (Phonegap)-based mobile app.
Webinar: Evolution of Data Management for the IoTSnapLogic
The Internet of Things is here - slowly, unevenly and in vertical markets, creating new data silos. Evolving data management will be required to realize the full potential of the IoT. There are specific needs for properly addressing IoT data, which legacy ETL tools and database management systems simply don't handle well.
This presentation is from a webinar with Joseph A. di Paolantonio, industry expert working at the convergence of IoT with data management and analytics, where he discusses five recommendations on gaining advantage through the latest IoT data management technologies and business processes.
