phrases repeatedly. Instead, we use pronouns such as これ ,

あの , そこ , and so on. For this reason, we can replace the
 ano soko The Suzuki s idea as
second こうばん(の) to そ(の) , or こうばんのまえ(で) to そこ new information has

is used when the reference is new information for the listener.
                                                                                 sono mae   kouban no mae

       suzuki-san eki no mae ni kouban ga arimasukara,
                       sono mae de aimasenka Let s do
                                                                                             that!
The usage of pronouns in dialogues (continued)

However, you sometimes have to be careful when you replace
to そこ(で) from what s being referred, for instance; そこ = that place = こうばん
                                                                            soko              kouban

     suzuki-san eki no mae ni kouban ga arimasukara,
                   soko de aimasenka

チャンさん as the listener may get confused whether she
should meet inside or in front of the こうばん if she s just
                                                                    ?   ?
referred as そこ(= that place) . In this case, すずきさん as the
speaker may want to refer as そのまえ as in front of the
police box in order to eliminate any alternatives.

      suzuki-san eki no mae ni takushii noriba ga arimasukara,
                   soko de aimasenka

In the meantime, if すずきさん offers to meet up at the taxi
stand as above, there would be no alternatives for anyone,
then he can refer as そこ(= that place = タクシーのりば)
                                                                                   Let s do
                                                                                    that!
