1. のります ∼に のります。
to get on (a vehicle), to take (transportation)
スミスさんは でんしゃに のります。
Mr. Smith gets on a train.
スミスさんは とうきょうえきで でんしゃに のります。
Mr. Smith gets on a train at Tokyo station.
2. おります ∼を おります。
to get off (a vehicle)
スミスさんは でんしゃを おります。
Mr. Smith gets off a train.
スミスさんは しんじゅくえきで でんしゃを おります。
Mr. Smith gets off a train at Shinjuku station.
Q : スミスさんは どうやって かいしゃに いきますか。 ( どうやって means how, in what way )
How does Mr. Smith get to the office?
A : とうきょうえきで でんしゃに のって、 しんじゅくえきで (でんしゃを) おります。
しんじゅくえきから かいしゃまで あるきます。 ( あるきます means to walk )
Mr. Smith gets on a train at Tokyo station, then gets off at Shinjuku station.
He walks to the office from Shinjuku station.

3. 3. でます ∼を でます。
to go out, to leave
スミスさんは うちを でます。 バスは 7じに しんじゅくえきを でます。
Mr. Smith leaves home. The bus leaves Shinjuku St. at 7.
スミスさんは 7じに うちを でます。
Mr. Smith leaves home at 7.
4. つきます ∼に つきます。 バスは 8じに とうきょうえきに つきます。
to arrive The bus arrives to Tokyo St. at 8.
スミスさんは かいしゃに つきます。
Mr. Smith arrives to the office.
スミスさんは 7じはんに かいしゃに つきます。
Mr. Smith arrives to the office at 7:30.
スミスさんは 7じに うちを でて、 7じはんに かいしゃに つきます。
Mr. Smith leaves home at 7, then arrives to the office at 7:30.
バスは 7じに しんじゅくえきを でて、 8じに とうきょうえきに つきます。
The bus leaves Shinjuku Station at 7, then arrives to Tokyo station at 8.

4. 5. かかります (time period) かかります。
take (time period)
うちから えきまで バスで 30ぷん かかります。
It takes 30 minutes from home to the station.
Q: うちから えきまで どのぐらい かかりますか。 ( どのぐらい means how long )
How long does it take from home to the station?
A: (うちから えきまで) バスで 30ぷん かかります。
It takes 30 minutes from home to the station by bus.
あるきます／あるいて
to walk, by walking
うちから バスていまで あるいて 5ふんぐらい かかります。 ( ぐらい means about )
It takes 5 minutes from home to the bus stop by walking.
(No particle is required when by walking is used as a mean of transportation.)

another, and how long it takes.
