¿What is a toy?
• Is an object to play, entertain and learn, generally intended
for children.
• Certain toys are also suitable for pets, especially dogs and
cats, and there are even varieties of toys created specific ally
for them.
Classification
• Exercise Game
• Those that consist of repeating an action with the aim of
achieving immediate results. Repeat actions like biting,
throwing, sucking, hitting, manipulating, babbling,
contribute to the development of the senses, and gross motor
• Symbolic game
• That which involves the representation of one object by
another. It is the type of game in which the child attributes all
sorts of meanings, more or less evident, to objects; Simulates
imaginary events and interprets plausible scenes by means of
roles and fictional or real characters. It is the game of
imitation to adults, whether of everyday situations or fictional
characters. They favor imagination and creativity.
• Assembly Kit
• It consists of combining, constructing, arranging and
assembling various elements to form a whole. They
contribute fundamentally to increase fine motor, eye-hand
coordination, reasoning, spatial organization, attention,
reflection, and the ability to interpret instructions
• Game of rules
• Those in which there are a series of instructions or rules that
players must know and respect to achieve the intended goal.
Favor the development of language, memory, reasoning,
attention and reflection.
Function
• In general, a toy has the objective of recreation, without
excepting other functions such as training, learning,
development or stimulation of the intellectual, psychological,
sensory-motor and social coexistence aspects, among others.
• It is through the toy that children explore, discover, learn and
interact with multiple objects and problems that form an
important part of their proper development as individuals.
History
• Ever since man appeared on the face of the earth he became a
curious and probably playful being. The question arises
alone: what would have been the first toy of the children of
that time in the history of mankind? If, as one might think,
they lived in caves, all they could have at hand would be a
few pebbles, which would become the first marbles.
• In its first steps, the toy was handmade and even occasionally
it was the children themselves who manufactured them,
generally looking to imitate objects of real life. The industrial
revolution took a turn in the manufacture of these fun
artifacts and the evolution of the technology allowed to create
objects more and more like the real ones for the distraction of
the children. It was from then on that the children's fun
began to be mediated by the market.
Influence of
marketing
• Since the 1960s, in the United States and Europe, marketing
began to focus on children as consumers, their access to
money and the influence they had on their parents.
• Many movies, television programs, cartoons, cartoons, video
games, fairy tales, cartoons, books and sports equipment
include toys in their official lines of merchandise.
