Students from several classes participated in a school library activity called "The Sound of Words" where they read and discussed poems. They explored interpreting older poems and finding current relevance. One class created artistic responses to the activity by drawing and writing poems. The teacher was impressed by the students' enthusiasm and interest. Some students discovered a love for poetry and wanted to share their own poems. The activity showed that literature can engage youth if presented properly.

2. This year, in their English lessons, students of classes 10CT3, 11CT_CSE, 11CSE1 and 11AV1 participated
in the school library activity “The Sound of Words”.
During the sessions, students read poems, discussed the importance of poetry and expressed their
interpretation of the poems, trying to find current relevance in the older ones.
As a fitting ending, the students of class 11AV1 put pen or should I say crayon to paper and gave an
artistic take on the activity.
I was impressed by the students’ interest and enthusiasm. The compilation of poems and videos for
this activity had given me immense pleasure, but I had never anticipated such a positive reaction.
This should be a lesson to teachers. We sometimes refrain from broaching certain subject matter,
believing it is a waste of time. But if this activity has taught me anything, it is that the younger
generation is “open” to good literature.
Several students discovered a love for poetry; a few admitted writing poems and one or two
suggested sharing their poems. This, for me, is the epitomy of a reading project.

After the unceasing noise of war.

Which poemor poet impacted you the most?
I liked a lot of poems that were presented during “Municipal Week of Reading”, but the one that
impacted me the most was the poem “I Love the Look of Words”.
Words can trigger any emotion. Words can make us happy, sad, angry, calm, anxious, excited
and so on, and so on. Words can comfort us; words can hurt us.
And yet, if we stop to think about it, words are nothing but a breath of air. It’s fascinating and,
at the same time, creepy.
This poem makes us think about something that we would probably never think about. I like
poems like that. That’s one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much.
