3. Functions:
Provides a framework or scaffolding that
allows us to stand upright and move
Protects our internal organ
Store minerals that our body needs to
function properly
Produces blood cells
4. Is made up of 206 different bones which
comes with 4 basic shapes
9. 1.Compact bone
-which is dense, smooth and very strong
2. Cancellous bone
-which is spongy and lightly

12.
13. Axial skeleton- which consists of bone
that form the
longitudinal axis of the
body. (80 bones)
Appendicular skeleton- which consists of
shoulders, upper
extremities, hips
and lower extremities
(126 bones)
14.
15. The entire skeletal system of an average
adult weighs less than 10 kg.
The largest bone is the pelvis, or hip
bone. In fact it is made of six bones
joined firmly together.
The longest bone is the 'femur', in the
thigh. It makes up almost one quarter of
the body's total height.
16. The smallest bone is the 'stirrup', deep in
the ear. It is hardly larger than a grain of
rice.
The ears and end of the nose do not
have bones inside them. Their inner
supports are cartilage or 'gristle', which is
lighter and more flexible than bone. This
is why the nose and ears can be bent.
After death, cartilage rots faster than
bone. This is why the skulls of skeletons
have no nose or ears.
17. Harder than reinforced concrete
Lighter than stainless steel
Able to repair itself
Bone is the near-perfect material to
provide the framework for the human
body
