Thinking Like a PM w/ former VP of Product at Lynda.comProduct School
Product Managers must balance four very different and sometimes conflicting mindsets when approaching ideation, creation, and delivery of high-value products. These are Exploration, Analysis, Critique and Evangelism. No matter what stage in the product lifecycle, simultaneously and deliberately viewing your product through these perspectives will help avoid common pitfalls and help deliver a superior solution.
Former VP of Product at Lynda.com, Ken Sandy, talked about the relative advantages of each of the four mindsets: how Exploration drives innovation, Analysis drives understanding, Critique identifies risks, and Evangelism provides a path to delivery.
He also talked about how to execution in context: your role is to build the right product, not to build the product right, and how to know what questions to ask yourself at each stage of the lifecycle and strategies to bring stakeholders along with you.

Level Up Your Tech Skills to Build Better Products by Upwork PMProduct School
Main Takeaways:
- While it's definitely not necessary for a PM to have a CS degree or be a skilled programmer, it's important that PMs are good at systems thinking and have an understanding of how technology powers their product so that they can have high quality discussions with their technical partners - a good way to assess or test this is if you can diagram the high-level architecture of your product.
- As AI is leveraged more broadly and deeply in products, PMs have to reinforce their existing technical understanding and also incorporate a new element into their thinking - data.
- Ask your technical partners to help you learn, both in general and about your product's tech - you'll learn more quickly and also deepen your relationship with them.
The Predictable & Unpredictable in PM Journey by Amazon Sr PMProduct School

PM from Home by eBay Head of Product Strategy & Operations for the Buyer Exp...Product School
Main takeaways:
-Self-management is more critical than ever. "On/Off Time Balance" is more important than "Work/Life Balance." Prioritize YOUR TIME, not just your products.
-Learn to be OK with not being a visionary. Remote PM is about patience, execution, and helping the visionaries grow their visions by choosing when/how to engage. We should celebrate the PMs that grow the curve as much as the ones who originated the idea. We don't have the luxury of winning over the room and building that kind of emotional momentum. Make the most of your work trips and face the time when you have it to lay seeds of your vision.
-Passive emotional Intelligence and understanding what motivates your team can navigate strategy better than data (but certainly keep data in the story), particularly on zoom calls from afar

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

What we call the
beginning is often
the end. And to make
an end is to make a
beginning. The end is
where we start from.

11. 1. One step at a time is good walking
Livin’ la dolce vita
Has this always been this
hard?!
This is starting to
make sense
I chose this not because
it’s easy. I chose it
because it’s hard

❏ Theoretical product
knowledge is useful.
Practice is essential
❏ A good product manager is
a person with strong
multidisciplinary skills
❏ Genuine product manager
positions don’t tend to
be the typical 9-5 jobs
❏ There are no ‘best’ paths
into product

14. 2. The title doesn’t
make the job
❏ Real product people
don’t ‘work in IT’ or
‘do project stuff’
❏ Product titles aren’t
an exact science
❏ There’s a fundamental
difference between
Product Owners and
Product Managers
❏ More senior job titles
depend on the company
hierarchy

❏ Product without data is
like swimming without a
stroke
❏ Data won’t tell you
what to build
❏ If in doubt, ask your
users BUT you can’t
rely on users telling
you what to do
❏ Users like change a lot
less than they say they
do

19. 4. Perfect is the enemy
of good enough
❏ 95% of new products
fail*
❏ Without good discovery
practices your team is
a feature team
❏ Small increments have
the biggest impact
❏ Don’t fall into the
‘cemetery of features’
trap

21. 5. The strength of the
team is in each
member
❏ Product is a team sport
❏ Your superpower is the
ability to influence
without authority
❏ Your ‘immediate’ team
is as important as your
‘extended’ team
❏ Your users are also
part of our team
❏ Don’t underestimate the
importance of
stakeholder mapping
*quote by Phil Jackson
For me there are 1,600 superstars in Mercedes.
But the strength of the team is every single
individual. I cannot drive the car, I am not
able to design an aerodynamic surface but I try
to understand everything about the guy who can
and I try to provide a framework for these
individuals to perform at their best.

the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team

23. 6. A rolling stone
gathers no moss
❏ Theoretical product
knowledge, best
practises and
disciplines are
constantly evolving
❏ No two products are the
same
❏ Users’ expectations are
ever changing. Learning
to adapt is a must, not
a nice-to-have
❏ Leadership is a tough
but incredibly
rewarding nut to crack
