How We Used Fast Customer Feedback to Build Product Insights - Michelle Huff...Traction Conf
Is it desirable? Is it viable? Is it feasible? These are the criteria every team should consider when building a product.
This was the mantra of UserTesting as we recently developed a product using fast customer feedback to build a product... for fast customer feedback.
When UserTesting builds products, they're constantly refining their understanding of three key questions: who is my customer? what is their problem? what is the best, lightest solution I can build for them? This drives rapid validation & iteration cycles as we build.
In this session, UserTesting CMO Michelle Huff will discuss their product development framework and discuss how they used customer feedback to (in)validate early ideas and build a shared understanding of the customer to avoid the second-guessing, and avoid debating and Monday-morning-quarterbacking that PMs often encounter when building products.
She will also share examples of how they shared their understanding of the three key questions throughout the product development lifecycle to bring stakeholders along.

As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Editor's Notes
Degree
Computer Engineering was 1 of 2 majors I didn’t say No too
My degree was one of the reasons a Google PM recruiter reached out to me
IT
Established technical foundation. Obtained a few certifications. CCNA, ITIL, VMware Certified Professional. Scripted many times to help automate our processes.
Help set the foundation to work effectively with developers. Ideally, I would have spent even more time with Dev by working in department such as IT Application Development.
A primary reason many recruiters have reached out to me
IT Project Management - also helped
MBA
I hope it helps but have not had a recruiter nor interviewer directly call it out.
Informational interviews
To get a better understanding of the job
Also demonstrates your interest and keeps you in mind if an opportunity does arise
Meetups: I’ll be at Rocky Mountain next week and then the StartUp one Nov 14. Has anyone attended any of these? Thoughts?
Ken Norton - currently a partner at Google Ventures. Has been in Product roles since 2000. Well respected.
Julie Zhou - posts an article roughly once per month
Recommended books - Sprint is one of the most recommended. Lean Startup is a great read to dive deep into product development. Thinking, Fast and Slow is helpful for understanding our thought process.
Product Collective - great to hear from industry experts. They have companies targeting Product Managers. Get to network with folks.
In a recent episode of The Everyday Innovator, Rachel talked about how to interview users with her simple structure of grace, bias, and pivot.
How I Built This: more inspirational, perseverance is key, how to be scrappy, how to market, how to get more sales, etc.
Played the role: Use my self-service portal as an example
CSPO
2 day highly interactive course. Highlight: using POP on our mobile phone to build an app and get immediate feedback.
Pragmatic Marketing -> reference NIHITO
Foundations
Build - improved handoffs to Dev, prioritize the backlog, do the market research
Focus - talks more about the strategy, market research, vision and plan
LinkedIn: professional photo, fill out your summary, list out accomplishments.
Product roles: Explain the differences
Consider roles close to the customer: will need to think about what space you want to pursue. For example, if you want to get into the Data Analytics space, consider Alteryx and its competitors. You don’t need to go all-in pursuing one company.
Are you already a power user?: Become certified in the product
Show your passion: Become an active member in their community. Respond to help other users. Post ideas or feedback. Possibly even co-write an article to demonstrate your use case and a positive outcome.
Know the buyer persona well: Don’t forget how important these folks are. They might not be the users. Use Enterprise software as an example with IT as the buyer and data analysts as the user. Maybe you are the buyer and want to switch into Product since you are passionate about the space.
Use my Enterprise IT background as an example. I was pitched software all the time. An important administration experience was critical. Using a real example, this is where much of my focus is for our next product at Alteryx.
B2B vs B2C: difference types of customers so they have different needs. Using SaaS as an example, different expectations from customers.
Cracking the PM: What is Product like at the big companies, how to advance your Product career, polishing your resume, tackling the different types of interview questions, and more
Know at least 5 stories: Use SAR (situation, action, results) for each one. Then, go into what was rewarding, challenging, toughest stakeholder, what did you learn, what would you have changed, what made you proud, etc
Porters 5 Forces - use iPhone as example: Competition (Samsung), new entrants (Google Pixel 3), suppliers (Qualcomm, Samsung, ADI), customers (may want to stop paying $1000 or more), substitutes (the light phone, Palm phone)
4 Ps for Marketing: Product, Price (perceived value. Luxury good is an interesting example), Promotion, Place (distribution channels)
SWOT: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats. We have hired competitive analysts and intelligence folks just for this reason.
QUESTION: How many people in the US? Explain why I don’t put 328M.
Favorite app: Use Waze as an example. Get me from point A to point B. That is not enough.
Why I like it?
Crowdsourcing fully embraced
Very accurate. When driving home from hikes, the cars on the side of the road was correct every time.
Carpool app. Haven’t been able to use it. Choose who to carpool with. Factors in HOV and carpool lanes to reduce commute time.
Should reduce the need for current vanpool type options or even employee shuttles
Add/Change:
Parking integration.
For example, going into Denver, I find my location. It would be fantastic to find a parking lot, in walking distance, that is relatively clean, safe and inexpensive. Allow people to rate parking lots.
Waze could potentially get a commission from certain parking lots
Parking lots could pay to advertise or promote their parking
Integrate with street level parking sensors
Alternative after doing research: buy a parking app company or integrate with one, such as BestParking
Integration with autonomous vehicles
Provide the vehicles data points to help them drive efficient routes
Integrate the Carpool feature with autonomous vehicles
Autonomous vehicles provide data to Uber to help folks driving cars
Siri integration to confirm road hazards or point them out
Squirrels: go into example
YouTube: go into example
Launch: New Coke in 1985, RJ Reynolds smokeless cigarettes in in 1989, Harley Davidson perfume in 1994
Brainstorming: I was recently in a Duty Free store and the line was one wrap around queue. This is far more efficient that individual lines per register. Good info but already known. Need to get creative. Talk about Amazon Go.

Have a non-blind person help the blind person
Inexpensive, need to hire 10 people, maybe call Seeing Eye to help find blind people to test with
Blind person calls a 1-800 number and they order an Uber. Call center tracks it
Have 800 number redirect to your own cell
App for blind person that only works to get a to major POIs in a town (Lousville). Uses all text to speech
Need mapping license. Need Devs. Will take longer. Harder to iterate and test

Summarize
Be confident: Everyday can be different in the life of a PM. Successful PMs can navigate through all the challenges, work with all the stakeholders, and be counted on to deliver timely features and products of high quality.
Questions that could be better:
Who are your competitors?
What’s your stock price?
