The Secret Agent Saturday Night Sunday Morning Character...
Every author has a characteristic and unique style. It is interesting to analyze how each author
approaches the different problematics and personal feelings and struggles that their characters have
to deal with all throughout their novels. The secret agent and Saturday night Sunday morning both
address the issues of anarchy, masculinity, femininity and heterosexual relationships but in different
time periods. The secret agent is a pre–war work while on the other hand, Saturday night Sunday
morning is a post–war novel, which makes it interesting to compare and contrast the character's
attitude and their beliefs in relation to these topics in both novels. It is also interesting to analyze
how the personal issues faced by the characters intersect with the contemporary issues that society
was facing during the time period in which the novel takes place.
Anarchy is a recurring theme in both the secret agent and Saturday night Sunday morning. In
Saturday night and Sunday morning, young factory worker Arthur Seaton faces against his own
unimportant and monotonous labor, as well as against an industrialized and estranging society.
Arthur is portrayed as more of an idealist than a materialist; a young rebel. He is a wounded dreamer
who hides his discontent in greediness and by how sensualist he is. When he walks by the factory
that he works at, he thought to himself: "With the wages...you could go on a ten–day binge and get
rid of all you'd saved. Because it was no use saving your

Lord Jim, Heart Of Darkness And The Secret Agent Essay
Joseph Conrad was born on December 3, 1857 and educated primarily in Poland. After a career at
sea in the French and British waters, he wrote short stories and books like Lord Jim, Heart of
Darkness and The Secret Agent. His short stories and books were mostly about his experiences in
remote places with an interest in the dark side of human nature. ().
Conrad was first taught by his father, but eventually he was placed in the private schooling. When
he was 16 he left Poland and traveled to the port city of Marseilles in France, where he started his
sailor career. After being on the sea for many years, Conrad finally decided to stay on land for some
time. In 1896 he married Jessie Emmeline George and they had two sons.
Conrad began to write his short stories and books in 1895. The publication of his first book,
Almayer 's Folly, an adventure tale set in the Borneo jungles. (). Before the new century he wrote
two of his most famous books. Lord Jim story is about an outcast young sailor who comes to terms
with his past acts of cowardice and eventually becomes the leader of a small South Seas country. ().
Heart of Darkness is British man 's journey deep into the Congo of Africa, where he encounters the
cruel and mysterious Kurtz, a European trader who has established himself as a ruler of the native
people there. ().
Conrad continued as an author and published more books such as Nostromo and The Secret Agent.

Sports Agent Research Paper
Sport agents negotiate contracts for athletes. However, their responsibilities don't stop at a business
representative but also include a mentor, advisor, lawyer, and mostly a friend. Professional athletes
tend to get mixed into legal problems at some point in their career and the agents are there to take
control of the problem. Although, a sport agent may not be a lawyer, so they have their own people
that may come in and provide that certain service. Along with a professional athlete comes media
attention, an agent would be a second voice for his/her client. For example, helping promote the
athlete, investments, sponsorships, or even in an embarrassing time where the client may not want to
show his/her face on camera. A good sport agent would have a personal relationship with each their
clients. Agents also need to have an understanding that most professional athletes have short playing
careers so marking that player and setting up endorsements during their prime to earn them the most
money possible makes a good agent, great. The Players Tribune states, "5 Qualities Your Sports

The Matrix, By Directors Lana And Larry Wachowski Essay
Due to technology more advanced, it is only natural for people to question the possibilities and
dangers as well its consequences to our society. Science fiction genres are great depictions and
visual representations that can bring possible answers to our doubts. In the film The Matrix (1999),
directors Lana and Larry Wachowski convey their idea that freedom is when you can fully control
you own life and the theme of Reality Vs. illusion through characterization, setting and the films
visual effects. The protagonist Neo, is a hacker who believes that he is not truly awake and feels an
unexplainable doubt in his life. He is then awakened by Morpheus, the leader of the resistance
against the matrix, into an apocalyptic world where machines control peoples' minds through a
program called "the matrix". Throughout their battle in rescuing the human race, the crucial idea of
what true freedom is, constantly stirs up not only the characters but also the viewer's minds. Would
we call living in a reality full of chaos being free, or would we rather live in an illusion where you
are free and the society is perfect, but in reality being locked up in a tube?
The theme of Man Vs Machine is communicated through characterization and costume. The matrix
is an example of human devolution, when Machine takes over human species. In the film, humans
are enslaved by machines in an invisible prison where they perceive they live normal lives, but in
reality they are controlled by the machines.

Theme Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress
Love is the one of the most powerful feelings one can experience. The other feeling is fear. When a
situation combines the both of them, which will prevail? The passage chosen comes from Dai Sijie's
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress where the Narrator experiences this struggle after being
attacked and returning to an empty home. Only a fantasy about the Little Seamstress could remedy
the gloom which hangs over him. The passage illustrates that the Narrator has a deep longing for the
Little Seamstress but his respectful attitude towards her due to an underlying fear; which reveals his
utter obedience.
The assault on the Narrator took a heavy toll on his mind, sending him into depression. The Narrator
ends up in an all time low and in a state of emptiness. The Narrator describes his house as "lonely"
and "bleak" with the "rancid" "smell of desolation" in the air. The gloomy diction reveals the feeling
of isolation engulfing the Narrator as an expansive nothingness is felt inside of his small house. In
an attempt to cure himself, the Narrator attempted to read his "favourite novel" but it was
"impossible to concentrate on." This selection of detail explains that nothing real, even if he deeply
cared about it, would remedy the displeasure he was feeling. The "oppressive smell" of desolation
would not resolve as a result the Narrator "was flooded with rage" once again. This ominous and
powerful diction depicts the overwhelming nature of the events surrounding the Narrator

'The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale'
oseph Conrad's novel "The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale" is set in London. It was published in 1907
and discusses politics, terrorism, family issues and anarchy. As it is clear from the novel's title, it is
revolved around the main character of the novel, Mr. Verloc who is a secret agent from Russia on a
secret mission in London. The title of the novel depicts clearly about the character's motif and
mission but the subtitle is depicting the novel to be a simple tale but still it is complex in its
nature. The novel seems like a straightforward story of the characters involved, their lives, their
work, their relationships and whatever is happening in their lives and surroundings. But, instead of
being a simple novel, it is full of mysteries that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another aspect linked to terrorism which is discussed by Conrad here is of authority. He reveals the
great power of the authority which can force a person to commit heinous crime, as it was in the case
of Stevie who did what Mr. Verloc asked him to do and carried out the bombing at Greenwich
Observatory. The novel shows that the victims of terrorism come in many forms and they are not
limited to those who die as the result of its destructions. The true victims for Conrad are those who
put their faith into a system that in reality is totally incapable of protecting them, a system, which
does everything and anything in the realms of its authority and power to destroy them. Conrad here
shows his command on being ironic and he also shows his anarchist side by supporting anarchy if it
is the last resort. "You revolutionists' the other continued, with leisurely self–confidence, 'are the
slaves of the social convention, which is afraid of you; slaves of it as much as the very police that
stands up in the defense of that convention. Clearly you are, since you want to revolutionize it. It
governs your action, too, and thus neither your thought nor your action can ever be conclusive. 'You
are not a bit better than the forces arrayed against you –– than the police, for instance." (Joseph
Conrad–The Secret Agent). The novel reveals a dark vision of humanity and of a shabby,
postindustrial London where nothing and no one is really who or what they look to be. A city where
the innocent are punished for their innocence and governments are happy to allow any kind of social
outrage to occur as long as it doesn't directly threaten the prevailing status quo. "Fate looks at
nothing. It has no discretion. He no longer considered it eminently desirable all round to establish
publicly the identity of the man who had blown himself up that morning with such horrible
completeness. But he was not certain of the view his department would take. A department is to

Principal Agent Relationship Essay
Within a federal republic, such as the United States, we tend to rely on representatives to represent
us as a nation rather than us representing the nation. This is due to people's capacity of knowledge as
not everyone can be the best of themselves in every area. Eventually, leading to representatives, who
have the knowledge in politics and government, in representing the people of every state. This type
of situation is when the people, who are the principals, gives authority to the representative, who are
the agents, to represent them. By definition, the principals are those who possess authority and
agents are individuals who execute the authority on behalf of the principals (Kernell 29). Although
this is common, not many individuals are aware that they are entering a principal and agent
relationship. In the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though it is not necessary for it to just involve politics, it can relate to legal matters, personal
matters, or work related relationships. One example of a principal and agent relationship is a lawyer
and its client. In this relationship, the principal is the client and the agent is the lawyer. This is a
principal and agent relationship because the client is delegating its authority to the lawyer. The
lawyer ends up being the agent who has received authority from the principal to handle the issue
that the principal is requesting. The client gives authority to the lawyer because the client does not
have the necessary knowledge to handle a matter that requires additional knowledge. The lawyer
will be the representative of the client who has no background in legal cases. It will allow the client
a higher chance of winning the case or having a better perspective on the matters that they are
concerned about. Since the relationship involves a lawyer and client, this example will revolve
around the law and legal issues, such as divorce, personal injury claim, or financial

The Role Of Conspiracies In The Secret Agent
Despite a lack of paranoia, The Secret Agent is a distinct example of conspiracy fiction. It exceeds
the criteria necessary in addressing the mediation of the media, the conspiracies within conspiracies
throughout the novel, and the sundering of the public sphere necessary for the title of conspiracy
fiction. Ultimately, even the anarchist group fuelling the conspiracies is not safe from its own inner
conspiracy. The novel distinctly examines how conspiracies can form within groups. Joseph Conrad
achieves this in how the anarchists employ stealthy techniques and deception even amongst
themselves. They conceal their motives; deliver anarchist pamphlets to incite the perceived
proletariats, and revel in the unpredictability that anarchy brings. The motives fuelling their actions
are concealed from one another. Moreover, even their crowning achievement in the destruction of
the Greenwich observatory, has unique layers of meaning amongst the group. To the Professor, the
meandering destruction sates his need for chaos and the validation of his nihilism. From Vladimir's
perspective, he wields this terrorist act as a method to subvert Britain's government and promote a
totalitarian order. His motives towards anarchy actually serve to dismantle it. In destroying the
observatory, he seeks not to promote the destruction of government, but strengthen it. As an Agent

Corruption In The Sports Agents Profession
The sport agent profession has become one of the more intriguing professions to emerge as the
sporting industry continues to expand. Most people may know of the profession from watching the
famous film Jerry Maguire starring Tom Cruise. With the emergence of both the sporting industry
and sport agent profession, many ideas about sport agents have evolved over time. There have been
many questions regarding the way that sport agents conduct their business with athletes. Especially
those on the collegiate level. To grasp a clearer understanding about sport agents and if they cause
corruption within the sporting industry we must first be able to examine the ethical decision making
of both athletes and sport agents. Also, we must gain a better ... Show more content on

Artificial Intelligence: The Heart Of Artificial Intelligence
GAME AGENTS
In games, the purpose of AI is to create an intelligent agent, referred as a non player character
(NPC). This agent acts as an opponent, an ally, or as a neutral entity in the game world. The heart of
artificial intelligence is a gaming agent.
An agent has three key steps through which it continually loops. The steps are commonly known as
the sense–think–act cycle.
1Now coming across these steps,
1. SENSING
The game agent must have information about the current state of the world to make decisions and to
act on those decisions. The world offers this information to the game agent about the existence,
location, and state of every opponent, barrier, or object.
Game agents are given human limitations. They are confined to know

It is important to compute vector to each object to minimize processing.
The following is the order of the steps:
1. by viewing the distance between the object and the agent
2. by seeing if the object is within the viewing angle of the agent(using dot product between object
vector and agents forward vector)
3. by seeing if the object is unobscured by the environment
– Hearing
An interesting twist on agent awareness is to allow an agent to sense through hearing. Hearing is
commonly modeled through event–driven notifications. For example, if the player performs an
action that makes a noise, the game will compute where that noise might travel to and inform any
agents within that range.
– Communication
Many types of agents are expected to communicate with each other, so it may be important to model
the transfer of sensed knowledge be– tween agents.
3Similar to the mechanism of hearing, information from communication will be event–driven in the
form of notifications. When an agent has useful information and comes within a certain distance of
other agents, the information will be sent directly to the other

A Comparison of Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent Essay
A Comparison of Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent
This essay consists of two separate parts but the intention is that both these parts will prove to be
relevant from the point of view of what this essay sets out to study. The first part will present Joseph
Conrad's life and some of his works and the latter part will consist of a comparison of two of
Conrad's works, Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent. In this essay I will begin from two
assumptions, namely, that both the works mentioned above include clearly identifiable similarities in
their narration, theme and method, and, that Conrad's own experiences and views have had great
effect on both works.
The method of this essay is firstly to discuss Conrad's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joseph Conrad was born on December 3, 1857 near Berdichev, in the Russian–ruled Poland. He was
Christened Jozef Teodor Korzeniovski but changed his name later because he "could not bear to hear
people mispronouncing his name all the time". He was the first and only son of Apollo and Evelina
Nalecz Korzeniowski. His father was an aristocrat, a land–owner who had two great passions which
Joseph inherited: a love for his country and a love for writing letters ( Warner, 1950: 8).
Apollo's involvement with the Polish National Committee, which fought for the independence of
Poland, lead to his arrest in October 21, 1861 and finally into exile in Vologda, in northern Russia
where Conrad and his mother followed in 1862. Evelina died in exile in 1865 in the age of thirty–
two.
Apollo was becoming progressively ill and in December 1867 he was permitted to return to Poland.
In the meantime the young Conrad had been living with his maternal uncle, Tadeusz Bobrovski,
since 1866 at Nowofastow in the Polish Ukraine. Finally Conrad rejoined his father and they settled
in Cracow in 1869. After Apollo finally died in May 23, 1869, Conrad continued his studies at the
University of Cracow under a tutor, to whom he was much attached to, and to whom he confided his
wish: a determination to go to the sea.
Conrad's guardian was against Conrad's decision to go to the sea but finally Conrad did what he
wanted and set out for the sea in the autumn

The Secret Agent
Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent is a before–its–time political masterpiece in the form of fictional
literature that grips the minds of an audience who may or may not have ever thought to question the
majority existence. After the occurrences of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, scholars,
educators, and the general public, in a desperate attempt to justify what was happening in the United
States, took notice of an otherwise buried great work. The terrorist theme in The Secret Agent is
initially straight forward to readers, but as the novel unravels with Conrad's immense use of
adjectives to describe the characters and setting of the story line, it becomes apparent that Conrad's
objective is to demonstrate social chaos as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school and
opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The
nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After
the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and
people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many
innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements
by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated
"There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that
students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non–violent civil disobedience"
("Konformist"). White's salute to the two young men and their insurrection against "the
indoctrination machine" ("Konformist"), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in
any rebellion against the norm. Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her
mentally challenged brother, also manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her
character and in some ways against the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks
character when she kills the man she is serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel's
focused anarchist. The only anarchist to correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her
brother. Literary reviewers such as Colas, suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she
took her own life. He compares her to Satan as she shamefully begs Ossipon to care for her after
murdering Verloc (Colas). However, in the author's notes,

The weakness is now evident; the agent will have to compete with already established agents and
agencies to convince players and their parents that they are the better sports management firm than
the competition. This is a hard task to overcome when many of today's players are signed to one of
five major agencies.
Opportunities:
Opportunities will come knocking at the door as soon as the first player is signed to the agency and
an NHL contract. As soon as the first player signs, it will become a snowball effect and the company
will be on the radar. The entry level salary of player for the 2010–2011 season is $900,000, meaning
the agency will receiving 3–4% ($27,000–36,000) a year for having that player signed to the agency.
If the snowball effect works, then if in a year, nine more players sign, you will see ten times the
revenue. After three years of an entry level contract, the player will most likely be making upwards
of $2 million, which would be a gross income of $600,000–800,000, given NWA has 10 players
with contracts valued at over $2 million per player.
Additionally, once a player has reached the NHL level, the agent or marketing half of the company
should pursue endorsement and sponsorship contracts for their client. The percentage the agency
would receive is between 17.5–25% of the endorsement deal.

Hero 's Journey And Characteristics
Throughout this semester, we mainly discussed the hero's journey and characteristics as an ancient
tale, such as in Beowulf and Grendel. But as we also saw, the hero's potential is present in everyone
with no regard of times. As such, when studying modern stories, we can see that aspects of hero's
journey are still a major theme. In The Matrix, Neo, an average hacker, who might not be seen as a
hero in the first place will soon show all characteristics to become one. As a result we would study
in this paper how The Matrix as a modern tale with aspects of the hero's journey, heroes' archetypes
as well as mythical themes, can be considered as a modern example of a hero's tale. Part I: The
Matrix, Plot Summary The Matrix is a movie based on the life of a computer programmer named
Mr. Anderson during the day and hacker called Neo at night, who will soon be embarked in a
journey to save mankind. The story begins when we see Neo asleep in front of his computer in
which a program runs automatic researches on another hacker called Morpheus. As the program
searches for information, the screen goes black and messages can be seen on the screen telling Neo
to wake up and to follow the white rabbit. As he fully wakes up, someone knocks on the door and
a girl with a white rabbit tattoo shows up. Neo decides then to follow the girl to a nightclub where
he met Trinity. After his encounter, Neo wakes up in his bed as all of this was a dream. Later on,

Masculinity In The Secret Agent
But Mr Verloc, turning up providentially to occupy the first–floor front bedroom, there had been no
more question of the young butcher (Secret agent, ). Winnie's mother was constantly reminding her
that he was indeed a good man and that she needs to carry out all of his wishes regardless of her
happiness just so they can have a better financial situation
Another recurring theme in these two works is how masculinity and power are portrayed in the
novels. In the secret agent, the author shares with the readers multiple points of views from different
characters to help the reader understand the personal beliefs, desires and struggles of the English
people in the 19th century. Even though we, as readers, can see all of the characters struggling ...

It is like if there was an immediate relation between masculinity and power. The author describes
Varloc as the complete opposite of the stereotypical masculine physical appearance. He describes his
as fat and lazy. His big, prominent eyes were not well adapted to winking. They were rather the sort
that closes solemnly in slumber with majestic effect. Undemonstrative and burly in a fat–pig style,
Mr. Verloc, without either rubbing his hands with satisfaction or winking skeptically at his thoughts,
proceeded on his way (Secret agent, ). The only way in which the author redeems his masculinity is
by his ability to take care of his wife and her family. Winnie stated that the only reason she married
him is because he can help them financially, not because she loved him. The novel shows Varloc's
struggles to retain his power while keeping a lazy lifestyle. Due to the fact that his only was to hold
some sort of power is by providing for his family, he was so desperate that he did not care about
risking Stevie's life in order to preserve his power and maintain his image as a responsible family
man. Another important character is the professor. He is

Analysis Of The Book ' The Secret Agent '
John Green once said, human existence is temporary and all the knowledge of the universe we
acquire will in time be forgotten because there will be no humans left to benefit from any of the stuff
we learned. And yet, this doesn 't invalidate scientific exploration to me. We seek to understand the
universe because it makes our lives better and more rich. Human existence is all relative to time, all
very temporary. Yet, the temporality of mortality is ultimately left up to the individual who chooses
how to spend each and every second that passes. One who chooses to only focus on the temporality
of it all, will only be waiting for death. Yet, those who choose to learn and change will be the ones
who live a better and richer life. In T.S. Eliot's Little Gilling the poem is about existence and faults
behind the lessons of humanity. In Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent is about how time acts as an
external pressure that forces the characters to choose what is worth living for and what is worth
dying for. Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway is about two separate, but parallel identities that are
impervious to change, leading to their ultimate downfall. There are similarities and differences in
each of the three writings regarding time and death. Either killing someone or dying is a result of
each individual character taking control over their life. Time is interrelated to death for the reason
that none of these character's have control over time and the power to change the past.

Next, we meet Thomas Anderson. We find him sleeping in front of his computer after a long night of
software hacking. The computer begins typing messages to him saying Neo, wake up. Neo is
Thomas' online alias. He wakes up to read these messages about how he should follow the white
rabbit. Next thing that happens is Neo gets a knock on the door while talking to the people at the
front door they invite him out to the club that night. Neo at first declines but then see's a white rabbit
tattoo on the lady's back. After seeing this Neo takes it as a sign and agrees to join them for the night

to see a dark scorched world around him. He also sees billions of the same things he is cased in and

the wires he is physically attached too. Neo is flushed out of his glass membrane filled case and it
picked up by an air craft. Neo arrives on Morpheus' air craft and is unconscious for days while his
body is being repaired and healed. When Neo finally awakens he asks questions about the metal in
his head, and he wonders why he can hardly walk and wonders why his eyes hurt so bad. Morpheus

The grey building looms over the street, the entrances emblazoned with the eagles of the Great Seal.
Inside, airport–type security greets the visitors. A family of two parents and their eldest child are met
with one minor complication: a questionable object in the child's backpack. One of the security
guards kindly points out the safety scissors on the x–ray screen, then confiscates the offending

With every step, the child's smile grows wider. Her eyes shift about as she notes the location of

Her mother tugs on her hand, stalling her wild imagination. The child shares a grin as the cinematic

Quality Monitoring And Coaching By Dr. Jon Anton And Anita...
My mind was racing after a recent #ICMIchat on the subject of contact center quality programs. As
the group exchanged ideas I felt inspired to develop my qualities philosophies into something you
could implement to improve your quality program today!
This might sound familiar – a 100+ point quality form that covers everything from how to answer
the phone to the number of times you should use the customer's name. Line by line the agent is told
all the ways they could improve with a final pass/fail score.
As Ladona Stork discusses in her article, Why You Should Stop Nit–Picking Your Call Center Rep 's
Work, line by line nit–picking doesn't work. Specifically, Ladona points out 2 common issues with
this approach:
1. The agent becomes overwhelmed
2. The agent feels unappreciated
Further proving the point, a study titled Best Practices in Quality Monitoring and Coaching by Dr.
Jon Anton and Anita Rockwell (free download from Benchmark Portal) noted the most common
negative feelings expressed by agents regarding their quality evaluation program:
б╔ They are only trying to catch me doing something wrong
б╔ I am being policed
б╔ I feel like big brother is watching me
б╔ I do not do as well when I am being watched
б╔ I get very nervous when someone is watching me work
This isn't news to you. You have heard/experienced this in your center. So how do we do better?
How can we measure the quality of our service and ensure a positive customer experience without

Conrad applies an apparently crystal clear literary narrative technique in the tradition of
conventional realism, a narrative method that appears deceptively simple. The Secret Agent holds
great deal of the social concerns. It is considered supreme masterpieces, it is a brilliantly depicting
an ironic narrative of London's seedy and dispossessed underworld of revolutionist and anarchists.
He have been in Polish in exile, and having experience of working with revolutionists and espionage
agents in Switzerland and Marseilles, Conrad is well–educated, sophisticated, intelligent, and
talented to be familiar with the tactics and rationalizations used by political agitators and terrorists.
Furthermore, he had become tantalized with the twilight world of international political activity in

As a great benefit, Joseph Conrad writes very well indeed. He even recognizes the subjective and

definitely an obvious theme in The Secret Agent. It's especially through Stevie and Michaelis that
Conrad tries to figure out if people in the modern world are even capable to take care one another.
undoubtedly, Stevie and Michaelis are both really compassionate couple, due to their inability to get
anything done when it comes to making the world a better place. Maybe it's because they're
surrounded by absolutly uncompassionate psychopaths. The devotion appears mostly in two
characters, Winnie Verloc and her mother. Both show a very deep devotion to Stevie. Stevie's

Critic Tillyard consents to this impression, although he fails to acknowledge the connection between
this manipulation of ironic distance and the novel's capitalist commentary; which remains influential

teenage years, we think our main goal in life is to, go to school, graduate, school again, graduate and

meeting new people, drama and other struggling situations. Life is not easy because many things

life that can help anybody. I believe 'The Matrix' answers some questions concerning serious life
issues like, self–doubting, taking revenge and taking a new path into your life. Self–doubting makes
us feel unwanted and unbelieving on your–self when it comes to any situation. Taking revenge only
takes place when somebody is mad at one another by mostly being jealous. Taking a new path may

The Matrix : The Themes Of The Matrix
A world where everyone lives inside of a simulation that is being controlled by machines after
humans lost the war, but they are unaware that it is not the real world. A group of people that are
trying to take down this simulation called The Matrix. The directors, Lana Wachowski and Lilly
Wachowski, use themes, chemistry, and special effects to capture attention and make The Matrix the
greatest film ever made.
In The Matrix, many themes contribute to the greatness of this film. The theme of freedom is
expressed in many ways. When Neo takes the red pill instead of the blue pill he had set himself free
from the Matrix, a simulation designed to keep humans trapped so machines can use them as
batteries; this shows that Neo chooses the harder path of freedom rather than the easier, yet ignorant
path of imprisonment. Another example is when Neo dies at the end of the film and his mind has not
been set free and he is still being restricted to the things he could do in the Matrix, but when Neo
brings himself back, his mind has been completely freed and he became capable of inhumane things,
such as being able to move at incredible speeds and being able to stop bullets in midair. Another
theme in The Matrix is the theme of man versus machine, which is portrayed all throughout the film.
A battle breaks out between the machines and the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar, a hovercraft that the
crew uses in the real world, but for the crew to stay alive, they need to use an EMP, but they cannot

Like Sun Tzu once said Of all those in the commander none is more intimate than the secret agent,

Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent: A Critique of Late–Victorian Gender Roles
February 15, 1894, was the most interesting afternoon in the otherwise dreary history of Greenwich
Observatory. Earlier in the day, Martial Bourdin, a skinny anarchist, traveled by train from
Westminster to Greenwich, concealing a small bomb. As he ominously ambled through Greenwich
Park, towards the Observatory, something happened – no one knows exactly what – and he blew
most of himself to shreds. The British, who loved to quantify in the late nineteenth century, noted
that the explosion spread bits of flesh over a distance of sixty yards. Martial Bourdin remained alive
for another half hour, but gave no hint as to the reason for his choice of such a bizarre ... Show more

According to John Palmer, this dark irony is essential for the novel's structure. He states, The
Secret Agent is built [...] on the characteristic esthetic tensions of satirical fiction –
misunderstandings, dramatic ironies, revealing symbolic parallels and contrasts, and the like (104).
Claire Rosenfield says that Conrad uses an ironic type of gallows humor to effectively
communicate the darkness of the world portrayed in the novel. Life is so appalling that this humor
arrives in the midst of horror, the point at which despair becomes humorous (121). E. M. W.
Tillyard's perspective differs from that of Rosenfield and Palmer; from his perspective, Conrad
keeps his dreadful story within the bounds of comedy by means of his ironic method (103). His
comments imply that the ironic tone does not effectively convey the sinister darkness present in the
story.
Many critics note that Conrad's irony reflects a pessimistic perspective of the British society in The
Secret Agent. Conrad's perspective is reflective of a society still reeling from the traumatizing social
effects of industrialization. Walter Wright observes that London's drab streets and barren ugliness
reveal the futility of life (189–190), and impersonal fate's destruction of individuals further reveals
life's emptiness (197). From Wright's perspective, the life without control or choice in The Secret
Agent is a life without meaning. Rosenfield

Secret Agent Stereotypes
Definition of CI
CI is 'the collection of information, internal, external and from competitors, but also from
customers, suppliers, technologies, environments, and potential business to provide early warning

of time. The Professor has too much time for him, but for us that's what's keeping us from total

had started when she was free at last. With the attempt at the destruction of time itself, the

The Secret Agent Saturday Night Sunday Morning Character...

  • 1. The Secret Agent Saturday Night Sunday Morning Character... Every author has a characteristic and unique style. It is interesting to analyze how each author approaches the different problematics and personal feelings and struggles that their characters have to deal with all throughout their novels. The secret agent and Saturday night Sunday morning both address the issues of anarchy, masculinity, femininity and heterosexual relationships but in different time periods. The secret agent is a pre–war work while on the other hand, Saturday night Sunday morning is a post–war novel, which makes it interesting to compare and contrast the character's attitude and their beliefs in relation to these topics in both novels. It is also interesting to analyze how the personal issues faced by the characters intersect with the contemporary issues that society was facing during the time period in which the novel takes place. Anarchy is a recurring theme in both the secret agent and Saturday night Sunday morning. In Saturday night and Sunday morning, young factory worker Arthur Seaton faces against his own unimportant and monotonous labor, as well as against an industrialized and estranging society. Arthur is portrayed as more of an idealist than a materialist; a young rebel. He is a wounded dreamer who hides his discontent in greediness and by how sensualist he is. When he walks by the factory that he works at, he thought to himself: "With the wages...you could go on a ten–day binge and get rid of all you'd saved. Because it was no use saving your ... However, their responsibilities don't stop at a business representative but also include a mentor, advisor, lawyer, and mostly a friend. Professional athletes tend to get mixed into legal problems at some point in their career and the agents are there to take control of the problem. Although, a sport agent may not be a lawyer, so they have their own people that may come in and provide that certain service. Along with a professional athlete comes media attention, an agent would be a second voice for his/her client. For example, helping promote the athlete, investments, sponsorships, or even in an embarrassing time where the client may not want to show his/her face on camera. A good sport agent would have a personal relationship with each their clients. • 7. The Matrix, By Directors Lana And Larry Wachowski Essay Due to technology more advanced, it is only natural for people to question the possibilities and dangers as well its consequences to our society. Science fiction genres are great depictions and visual representations that can bring possible answers to our doubts. In the film The Matrix (1999), directors Lana and Larry Wachowski convey their idea that freedom is when you can fully control you own life and the theme of Reality Vs. illusion through characterization, setting and the films visual effects. The protagonist Neo, is a hacker who believes that he is not truly awake and feels an unexplainable doubt in his life. He is then awakened by Morpheus, the leader of the resistance against the matrix, into an apocalyptic world where machines control peoples' minds through a program called "the matrix". Throughout their battle in rescuing the human race, the crucial idea of what true freedom is, constantly stirs up not only the characters but also the viewer's minds. Would we call living in a reality full of chaos being free, or would we rather live in an illusion where you are free and the society is perfect, but in reality being locked up in a tube? The theme of Man Vs Machine is communicated through characterization and costume. The matrix is an example of human devolution, when Machine takes over human species. In the film, humans are enslaved by machines in an invisible prison where they perceive they live normal lives, but in reality they are controlled by the machines. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Theme Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress Love is the one of the most powerful feelings one can experience. The other feeling is fear. When a situation combines the both of them, which will prevail? The passage chosen comes from Dai Sijie's Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress where the Narrator experiences this struggle after being attacked and returning to an empty home. Only a fantasy about the Little Seamstress could remedy the gloom which hangs over him. The passage illustrates that the Narrator has a deep longing for the Little Seamstress but his respectful attitude towards her due to an underlying fear; which reveals his utter obedience. The assault on the Narrator took a heavy toll on his mind, sending him into depression. The Narrator ends up in an all time low and in a state of emptiness. The Narrator describes his house as "lonely" and "bleak" with the "rancid" "smell of desolation" in the air. The gloomy diction reveals the feeling of isolation engulfing the Narrator as an expansive nothingness is felt inside of his small house. In an attempt to cure himself, the Narrator attempted to read his "favourite novel" but it was "impossible to concentrate on." This selection of detail explains that nothing real, even if he deeply cared about it, would remedy the displeasure he was feeling. The "oppressive smell" of desolation would not resolve as a result the Narrator "was flooded with rage" once again. This ominous and powerful diction depicts the overwhelming nature of the events surrounding the Narrator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. 'The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale' oseph Conrad's novel "The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale" is set in London. It was published in 1907 and discusses politics, terrorism, family issues and anarchy. As it is clear from the novel's title, it is revolved around the main character of the novel, Mr. Verloc who is a secret agent from Russia on a secret mission in London. The title of the novel depicts clearly about the character's motif and mission but the subtitle is depicting the novel to be a simple tale but still it is complex in its nature. The novel seems like a straightforward story of the characters involved, their lives, their work, their relationships and whatever is happening in their lives and surroundings. But, instead of being a simple novel, it is full of mysteries that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another aspect linked to terrorism which is discussed by Conrad here is of authority. He reveals the great power of the authority which can force a person to commit heinous crime, as it was in the case of Stevie who did what Mr. Verloc asked him to do and carried out the bombing at Greenwich Observatory. The novel shows that the victims of terrorism come in many forms and they are not limited to those who die as the result of its destructions. The true victims for Conrad are those who put their faith into a system that in reality is totally incapable of protecting them, a system, which does everything and anything in the realms of its authority and power to destroy them. Conrad here shows his command on being ironic and he also shows his anarchist side by supporting anarchy if it is the last resort. "You revolutionists' the other continued, with leisurely self–confidence, 'are the slaves of the social convention, which is afraid of you; slaves of it as much as the very police that stands up in the defense of that convention. Clearly you are, since you want to revolutionize it. It governs your action, too, and thus neither your thought nor your action can ever be conclusive. 'You are not a bit better than the forces arrayed against you –– than the police, for instance." (Joseph Conrad–The Secret Agent). The novel reveals a dark vision of humanity and of a shabby, postindustrial London where nothing and no one is really who or what they look to be. A city where the innocent are punished for their innocence and governments are happy to allow any kind of social outrage to occur as long as it doesn't directly threaten the prevailing status quo. "Fate looks at nothing. It has no discretion. He no longer considered it eminently desirable all round to establish publicly the identity of the man who had blown himself up that morning with such horrible completeness. But he was not certain of the view his department would take. A department is to those it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Principal Agent Relationship Essay Within a federal republic, such as the United States, we tend to rely on representatives to represent us as a nation rather than us representing the nation. This is due to people's capacity of knowledge as not everyone can be the best of themselves in every area. Eventually, leading to representatives, who have the knowledge in politics and government, in representing the people of every state. This type of situation is when the people, who are the principals, gives authority to the representative, who are the agents, to represent them. By definition, the principals are those who possess authority and agents are individuals who execute the authority on behalf of the principals (Kernell 29). Although this is common, not many individuals are aware that they are entering a principal and agent relationship. In the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though it is not necessary for it to just involve politics, it can relate to legal matters, personal matters, or work related relationships. One example of a principal and agent relationship is a lawyer and its client. In this relationship, the principal is the client and the agent is the lawyer. This is a principal and agent relationship because the client is delegating its authority to the lawyer. The lawyer ends up being the agent who has received authority from the principal to handle the issue that the principal is requesting. The client gives authority to the lawyer because the client does not have the necessary knowledge to handle a matter that requires additional knowledge. The lawyer will be the representative of the client who has no background in legal cases. It will allow the client a higher chance of winning the case or having a better perspective on the matters that they are concerned about. Since the relationship involves a lawyer and client, this example will revolve around the law and legal issues, such as divorce, personal injury claim, or financial ... • 15. The Role Of Conspiracies In The Secret Agent Despite a lack of paranoia, The Secret Agent is a distinct example of conspiracy fiction. It exceeds the criteria necessary in addressing the mediation of the media, the conspiracies within conspiracies throughout the novel, and the sundering of the public sphere necessary for the title of conspiracy fiction. Ultimately, even the anarchist group fuelling the conspiracies is not safe from its own inner conspiracy. The novel distinctly examines how conspiracies can form within groups. Joseph Conrad achieves this in how the anarchists employ stealthy techniques and deception even amongst themselves. They conceal their motives; deliver anarchist pamphlets to incite the perceived proletariats, and revel in the unpredictability that anarchy brings. The motives fuelling their actions are concealed from one another. Moreover, even their crowning achievement in the destruction of the Greenwich observatory, has unique layers of meaning amongst the group. To the Professor, the meandering destruction sates his need for chaos and the validation of his nihilism. Most people may know of the profession from watching the famous film Jerry Maguire starring Tom Cruise. There have been many questions regarding the way that sport agents conduct their business with athletes. Especially those on the collegiate level. This agent acts as an opponent, an ally, or as a neutral entity in the game world. The heart of artificial intelligence is a gaming agent. An agent has three key steps through which it continually loops. The steps are commonly known as the sense–think–act cycle. 1Now coming across these steps, 1. SENSING The game agent must have information about the current state of the world to make decisions and to act on those decisions. Hearing is commonly modeled through event–driven notifications. For example, if the player performs an action that makes a noise, the game will compute where that noise might travel to and inform any agents within that range. – Communication Many types of agents are expected to communicate with each other, so it may be important to model the transfer of sensed knowledge be– tween agents. 3Similar to the mechanism of hearing, information from communication will be event–driven in the form of notifications. A Comparison of Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent Essay A Comparison of Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent This essay consists of two separate parts but the intention is that both these parts will prove to be relevant from the point of view of what this essay sets out to study. The first part will present Joseph Conrad's life and some of his works and the latter part will consist of a comparison of two of Conrad's works, Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent. In this essay I will begin from two assumptions, namely, that both the works mentioned above include clearly identifiable similarities in their narration, theme and method, and, that Conrad's own experiences and views have had great effect on both works. He was Christened Jozef Teodor Korzeniovski but changed his name later because he "could not bear to hear people mispronouncing his name all the time". He was the first and only son of Apollo and Evelina Nalecz Korzeniowski. His father was an aristocrat, a land–owner who had two great passions which Joseph inherited: a love for his country and a love for writing letters ( Warner, 1950: 8). Apollo's involvement with the Polish National Committee, which fought for the independence of Poland, lead to his arrest in October 21, 1861 and finally into exile in Vologda, in northern Russia where Conrad and his mother followed in 1862. Evelina died in exile in 1865 in the age of thirty– two. Apollo was becoming progressively ill and in December 1867 he was permitted to return to Poland. In the meantime the young Conrad had been living with his maternal uncle, Tadeusz Bobrovski, since 1866 at Nowofastow in the Polish Ukraine. Finally Conrad rejoined his father and they settled in Cracow in 1869. After Apollo finally died in May 23, 1869, Conrad continued his studies at the University of Cracow under a tutor, to whom he was much attached to, and to whom he confided his wish: a determination to go to the sea. The Secret Agent Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent is a before–its–time political masterpiece in the form of fictional literature that grips the minds of an audience who may or may not have ever thought to question the majority existence. After the occurrences of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, scholars, educators, and the general public, in a desperate attempt to justify what was happening in the United States, took notice of an otherwise buried great work. The terrorist theme in The Secret Agent is initially straight forward to readers, but as the novel unravels with Conrad's immense use of adjectives to describe the characters and setting of the story line, it becomes apparent that Conrad's objective is to demonstrate social chaos as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On April 20th, 1999, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into their high school and opened fire killing twelve fellow students, one teacher, and then finally themselves (Lamb). The nation stood still. At that time, it was considered the deadliest school shooting in US history. After the mourning and confusion opened way to questions, the students were closely examined and people tried to make sense of why these two had planned for over a year to exterminate so many innocent students and teachers. The Konformist, an anarchist website and blog, released statements by Bill White of the Utopian Anarchist Party in response to the Columbine shootings. He stated "There is no ballot for young people, there is only the bullet. So it can be of no surprise today that students have struck back with bullets and not through ineffective non–violent civil disobedience" ("Konformist"). White's salute to the two young men and their insurrection against "the indoctrination machine" ("Konformist"), is in line with the notion that anarchism can be found in any rebellion against the norm. Winnie, who lives her life to maintain a stable environment for her mentally challenged brother, also manifests anarchy in a very different way. She revolts against her character and in some ways against the role of the Victorian woman. Winnie momentarily breaks character when she kills the man she is serving in return for stability. She becomes the novel's focused anarchist. The only anarchist to correctly carry out such an extreme act to avenge her brother. Literary reviewers such as Colas, suggests that Winnie failed her anarchist title when she took her own life. He compares her to Satan as she shamefully begs Ossipon to care for her after murdering Verloc (Colas). However, in the author's notes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But as we also saw, the hero's potential is present in everyone with no regard of times. As such, when studying modern stories, we can see that aspects of hero's journey are still a major theme. In The Matrix, Neo, an average hacker, who might not be seen as a hero in the first place will soon show all characteristics to become one. • 44. Analysis Of The Book ' The Secret Agent ' John Green once said, human existence is temporary and all the knowledge of the universe we acquire will in time be forgotten because there will be no humans left to benefit from any of the stuff we learned. And yet, this doesn 't invalidate scientific exploration to me. We seek to understand the universe because it makes our lives better and more rich. Human existence is all relative to time, all very temporary. Yet, the temporality of mortality is ultimately left up to the individual who chooses how to spend each and every second that passes. One who chooses to only focus on the temporality of it all, will only be waiting for death. Yet, those who choose to learn and change will be the ones who live a better and richer life. In T.S. Eliot's Little Gilling the poem is about existence and faults behind the lessons of humanity. In Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent is about how time acts as an external pressure that forces the characters to choose what is worth living for and what is worth dying for. Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway is about two separate, but parallel identities that are impervious to change, leading to their ultimate downfall. There are similarities and differences in each of the three writings regarding time and death. Either killing someone or dying is a result of each individual character taking control over their life. Time is interrelated to death for the reason that none of these character's have control over time and the power to change the past. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stevie's compassion results from a really deep emotional connection with the world; Winnie and her mother consider protective attitude toward him a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critic Tillyard consents to this impression, although he fails to acknowledge the connection between this manipulation of ironic distance and the novel's capitalist commentary; which remains influential over the Assistant Commissioner. Nevertheless, Tillyard recognizes the Assistant Commissioner's deceptive nature: Here we might easily think of the Commissioner as an unconscious Laocoе▒n caught in the coils of officialdom. But very soon we learn that he is as well aware of the coils as we are and as averse to them as Conrad would like his readers to be.... (The Secret Agent Reconsidered. P.107). Despite conquering ironic distance and revealing his awareness, the Assistant Commissioner remains submissive to the protocols of his job. This conveys the scale of oppressive power that Conrad places on capitalist society in his fiction, which manifests as a transcending of the narrative. We experienced new things like, different hobbies, food, traveling to new places, etc. As we enter the teenage years, we think our main goal in life is to, go to school, graduate, school again, graduate and finally our dream job, but life isn't that easy isn't? • 64. The Matrix : The Themes Of The Matrix A world where everyone lives inside of a simulation that is being controlled by machines after humans lost the war, but they are unaware that it is not the real world. A group of people that are trying to take down this simulation called The Matrix. The directors, Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski, use themes, chemistry, and special effects to capture attention and make The Matrix the greatest film ever made. In The Matrix, many themes contribute to the greatness of this film. The theme of freedom is expressed in many ways. When Neo takes the red pill instead of the blue pill he had set himself free from the Matrix, a simulation designed to keep humans trapped so machines can use them as batteries; this shows that Neo chooses the harder path of freedom rather than the easier, yet ignorant path of imprisonment. Another example is when Neo dies at the end of the film and his mind has not been set free and he is still being restricted to the things he could do in the Matrix, but when Neo brings himself back, his mind has been completely freed and he became capable of inhumane things, such as being able to move at incredible speeds and being able to stop bullets in midair. Another theme in The Matrix is the theme of man versus machine, which is portrayed all throughout the film. A battle breaks out between the machines and the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar, a hovercraft that the crew uses in the real world, but for the crew to stay alive, they need to use an EMP, but they cannot ... Essay On Secret Service Agent Like Sun Tzu once said Of all those in the commander none is more intimate than the secret agent, of all rewards none more liberal than those given to secret agent: of all matter none is more confidential than those relating to secret operation. The career of a Secret Service Agent is adroit and propitious, because of the people in that field. The research will describe the career of a S.S.A, what is required to become a successful person in life, and the impact this career has on society. The Secret Service Division was created on July 5, 1865 in Washington, D.C., to suppress counterfeit currency. It was established by Abraham Lincoln on the same day he was assassinated, the Secret Service has only been working at presidential inaugurations since 1885. Essay Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent: A Critique of Late–Victorian Gender Roles February 15, 1894, was the most interesting afternoon in the otherwise dreary history of Greenwich Observatory. Earlier in the day, Martial Bourdin, a skinny anarchist, traveled by train from Westminster to Greenwich, concealing a small bomb. As he ominously ambled through Greenwich Park, towards the Observatory, something happened – no one knows exactly what – and he blew most of himself to shreds. The British, who loved to quantify in the late nineteenth century, noted that the explosion spread bits of flesh over a distance of sixty yards. Martial Bourdin remained alive for another half hour, but gave no hint as to the reason for his choice of such a bizarre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to John Palmer, this dark irony is essential for the novel's structure. He states, The Secret Agent is built [...] on the characteristic esthetic tensions of satirical fiction – misunderstandings, dramatic ironies, revealing symbolic parallels and contrasts, and the like (104). Claire Rosenfield says that Conrad uses an ironic type of gallows humor to effectively communicate the darkness of the world portrayed in the novel. Life is so appalling that this humor arrives in the midst of horror, the point at which despair becomes humorous (121). E. M. W. Tillyard's perspective differs from that of Rosenfield and Palmer; from his perspective, Conrad keeps his dreadful story within the bounds of comedy by means of his ironic method (103). His comments imply that the ironic tone does not effectively convey the sinister darkness present in the story. Many critics note that Conrad's irony reflects a pessimistic perspective of the British society in The Secret Agent. Conrad's perspective is reflective of a society still reeling from the traumatizing social effects of industrialization. Walter Wright observes that London's drab streets and barren ugliness reveal the futility of life (189–190), and impersonal fate's destruction of individuals further reveals life's emptiness (197). From Wright's perspective, the life without control or choice in The Secret Agent is a life without meaning. Rosenfield ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will do so by stating what I tracked, the patterns I saw that emerged, the interrelations of it all, then finally the possibilities of meaning.
