Henry Cooper, a science reporter, discovers that the medical research division on the Moon is hiding something. With the help of Inspector General Chandra Coomaraswamy, Cooper learns that experiments have shown that life spans on the Moon could be over 200 years due to lower gravity. The head of medical research, Dr. Hastings, fears announcing this discovery because of how overpopulated Earth might react to a group having greatly extended lifespans with limited space on the Moon.
