Iterative Architecture: Your Path to on-time DeliveryAsanka Abeysinghe
Think big, act small. It’s easy to develop a vision, but there are often many architecture barriers along the path to achieving it. Asanka Abeysinghe explores iterative architecture—introducing iterative architectural changes to support business and technical requirements—and shares real-world examples.
Enterprises today operate in complex and competitive markets. They are constantly trying to optimize business functions, introduce new business capabilities, and tap into new markets quickly and efficiently. For the business to be agile, tis software systems must also be agile, with the ability to build and integrate new capabilities in a short time. At the same time, enterprise software systems should help with evolutionary (and revolutionary) changes that will affect core business functions.

Moving EA - from where we are to where we should beLeanIX GmbH
Presentation held by Dr. Stefan Zerbe, ITM at EA Connect Days 2018 in Bonn. While EA (enterprise architecture) is a well-known discipline many business organizations struggle with maturity of their corporate EA practice. But even companies that stopped EA activities in recent years now relaunch EA, in order to tackle challenges resulting from digital transformation, regulatory pressure and increasing IT complexity. This presentation builds on lessons learned from companies working with EA and refocuses the EA value proposition in order to meet business expectations. It highlights the importance to extent EA thinking to business units and explains collaboration modelsto engage both, business and IT architecture specialists as well as managers, in joint architecture activities based on a real project example. From a business-oriented perspective on EA, the presentation picks up the discussion regarding a new agile mindset for EA architects and presents new ideas for tool sets to support EA work in corporations.
Building a Digital Enterprise: Learning from ExperienceAsanka Abeysinghe
Digital transformation, digital enterprise, and connected business – what does this all mean for each industry vertical? How does one innovate in critical strategies? What does the reference architecture look like for a small, medium, or larger enterprise? How does an organization implement such an architecture? As an avid technology partner, WSO2 has helped many organizations in their journey to build the right digital enterprise capabilities that create better customer and internal user experiences. This session will answer the above questions and share our own experiences from successful projects.
Success of a Connected Business depends on robust architecture that will reuse the existing IT assets and fill the gaps by introducing required architecture layers. Having a iterative approach with a milestone plan helps to overcome the technical and non-technical challenges businesses face during implementation. Middleware and Next-Gen Middleware are the raw materials to build an integrated, secured, monitored and governed Connected Business.
Middleware is essential for application development which increases the productivity of full-stack developers by bringing battle-hardened functional capabilities covering the majority of a digital-driven project. However, with the adoption of Microservices and cloud-native application architecture middleware cannot use like used in the past, this is a solution for the above problem.
Complexity created by distributed computing encapsulated by the middleware for over two decades and made application developers productive by letting them focus on business logic relevant to their domain. Modern architecture and technology drift, such as Microservices, Cloud-native, and Serverless does not have room to embed middleware into the application development while the need is still there.
In this talk, Asanka is going to deep-dive into an API-centric, decentralized, and code-first approach to fill the void of middleware and make the application developer productive again.

The Role of Integration in Microservice Architecture (MSA)Asanka Abeysinghe
Integration was treated as old-school technology when microservice architecture (MSA) was introduced. However, when theory became practice, the technologist who designed and implemented MSA identified the important role integration plays in this modern architecture paradigm. An architecture layer that connects many microservices and builds composite services, requests dispatching and service routing, connects microservices with legacy services and cloud providers are among common integration use cases across most enterprises.
During this session, Asanka will discuss how integration fits into MSA and technologies that can be used to implement integration microservices.

Innovation in the Internet of Things (IoT) provides various opportunities for large, medium, and small-sized companies; however, its realization is still challenging for these companies. Therefore, an engineering design methodology for IoT innovation is required, especially for non- information and communication technology experts. In this paper, we call the engineering design method for IoT innovation “IoT innovation design method,” and discuss its requirements and perspectives with reference to previous studies. Then, this paper proposes a concrete IoT innovation design method with an example. This paper contributes to existing studies not only by proposing a new specific method but also by clarifying the general requirements and perspective (viewpoints) of IoT innovation design methods.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
