6,We lose about a half a litre of water a day from breathing. 7,The surface area of people’s lungs is as big as a tennis court. 8.The capillaries in the lungs would extend 1,600 kilometres if placed end to end 9.Inside the lung, the tubes divide into smaller and smaller tubes called bronchioles. 10.At the end of each of these tubes are small air balloons called alveoli.
Ten interesting facts ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],2. Whose breathing rate is the fastest? A] A women’s. B] A man’s. C] A child’s. D] Women’s and children.
Were you focusing 3. What happens to air when passed through the hairs in your nose? A] It gets warmed up and cleaned B] It gets cooled down C] None of the above 4. How many times does someone breathe a minute while they are asleep? A] 23-30 B] 18-20 C] 16-17 D] 12-15
Were you paying attention ? 5. What is the highest speed recorded for a sneeze travelling? A] 120km/h B] 145km/h C] 150km/h D] 165km/h 6. Around about how many litres of water do we lose a day from breathing? A] 3/4 litres B] ½ litres C] 2 litres D] 5 litres
7. How big is the area of someone’s lung? A] As big as a netball court B] As big as a rugby field C] As big as a tennis court 8. How long would the capillaries in the lungs extend to? A] 1,200 kilometres B] 1,400 kilometres C] 1,600 kilometres Almost there……………
9. The lungs have tubes that divide into smaller and smaller tubes called what? A] Capillaries B] Lung tubes C] Bronchioles 10. At the end of these tubes there are small air balloons called what? A] Lung balloons B] Bronchioles C] Alveoli Last few questions ……
The trachea…… The Trachea The Trachea also known as the wind pipe is used to pass air that is breathed in through the nose or mouth into the lungs. The diagram below shows the Trachea.
The Lungs……. The lungs are two vital organs in the respiratory system Air is breathed in and the trachea pumps the oxygen that goes into the lungs and carbon dioxide goes out. The lungs are also shown on the diagram below
Lung cancer Symptoms of lung cancer are varied depending upon where and how widespread the tumour is. Warning signs of lung cancer are not always present or easy to identify.
