The lego movie
1. The Lego Movie
I have chosen it because it manages to
use, sound, editing, camerawork and
Mise En Scene effectively while still
being funny.
2. Mise En Scene
• Setting: In an underground cave surrounded
with lava, this creates a sense of tension and
danger to be exciting. We start to feel tense
and get scared for our characters.
• Costuming: The contrast between Vesuvius
and his surroundings shows us he is clearly
good and our protagonist. Not to mention the
bright clothing and use of white shows purity
and innocence. Making this character likeable.
• Props- Vesuvius has a staff which makes the
movie other world and an escape from reality.
The scene is exciting and becomes something
we have never seen before.
3. Camerawork
• Zoom: Creates a dramatic first line and creates
excitement. We get pumped with adrenaline with an
epic opening line.
• Wide shot: The wide shot shows the conflict and dislike
between the two characters. Showing us the
differences between good and evil.
• Low angle: This shows us how lord Business as the
upper hand and makes him look more threatening
• High angle: Vesuvius is shown to have been
overpowered by Lord Business
• Point of view shot: Puts us into Vesuvius shoes and we
feel the same way that he feels.
4. Sound
• Hyperbolic: The exaggerated noise when Lord
Business opens the door makes his entrance
more dramatic and more epic. We start to feel
worried for our protagonist and the scene
becomes exciting.
• Score: The exciting music in the background
gets us prepared for the fun events about to
happen. We get hyped up and filled with
adrenaline.
• Ambient: We feel as if we are part of the
scene when we are pulled in with all the
sound effects. The scene no longer becomes
naturalistic and it keeps the scene joyful.
5. Editing
• Slow paced: The scene feels slow so that we
can concentrate and we are also forced to
appreciate the visuals and we are in awe. By
creating an other worldly experience we are
instantly entertained.
• Continuity: With limited cuts and match on
actions we are clearly getting a dialogue
focused scene and we clearly concentrate. By
keeping us focused and reeling us in, we never
becomes bored.
