Legally blonde post
1. Mise-En-Scene
• Costuming- The girls are all wearing skimpy
clothing that feature very feminine colors. They
have probably chosen to do this because they
want to show how the girls all see the female
stereotype and have therefore become it to fit
in. Making girls believe they is a perfect female
image.
• Props-Most of the props shown are on Elle’s
desk. These include perfume, make up, razors,
blonde hair dye and hair products. This tells us
that our main character is very image conscious
and is very feminine.
• Setting- The scenery shown are very eccentric
and expensive looking places. Like huge mansions
and high class parks. This has been done to envy
the characters and make us jealous of them.
Therefore forcing us to like them.
2. Editing
• Text- The text they have chosen to display for the credits
are a light pink color with a pink glow. In cursive handwriting
in a feminine way. This tells us that this film is aimed towards
a young female audience, it also goes towards the female
stereotype that girls all love pink and are naturally feminine.
• Slow paced editing-by using long takes and not cutting quickly
between shots we really get to visualize easily the eccentric
lifestyle that theses characters live and we slowly start to
feel rather jealous of them. By making us jealous of them we
wish that we were them, naturally forcing us to love them and
envy them.
• Slow-Motion-By having the takes in slow motion, there isn’t
much to focus on visually. So it forces us to listen to the song.
By understanding the song and hearing the lyrics and pop rock
beat. We get some idea of who these characters are.
3. Camerawork
• Tracking Shot- This is used to follow someone, in this
clip we follow a girl on a bike as she goes through
campus to deliver a letter. The shot is smooth and
calm. Creating a smooth atmosphere and letting us
know that we are watching a comedy. If the shot was
crazy, then it would be likely that we would be
watching an action.
• High Key Lighting-This is when the shot is shown with
bright lighting. This keeps things joyful and playful.
Once again showing us that this is a comedy and that
we shouldn't feel tense or worried.
• Hand held- When we follow a girl through the house
the camera is hand held. This makes us feel like we
are personally ion the house as well. Bringing us out of
reality and bringing us into the world of the film.
4. Sound
• Score- The music chosen is a teen pop/rock agitating
song with such positivity and joyfulness. This song is
used to represent our characters and give us some idea
of heir personalities.
• Ambient sound- This is when we hear everything going
in in the scene. This is used in the song to hear all the
girls in the scene talking and having fun. This is
another way to bring us into the world of the film and
escape reality.
• Dialogue- By using this we get to hear the voices of
some of the characters. By hearing their voices we get
some idea of what theses girls are like. They were
classic American accents and were clearly teens
because their way of speaking was informal. Another
way of keeping the stereotype.
5. Questions
• Who are these girls?
• What's that letter?
• What is Elle like?
• Do their personalities match what we've just seen?
6. Characters/ Things we know
