At the end of this lesson, students are expected to:
a. Identify the independent clause, dependent clause, and
subordinating conjunction in a sentence;
b. create their own example of complex sentences;
c. performs efficiently in a group activity doing showing their
ability to work together.
1. I love going out.
2. When I went to Baguio.
3. I have finished my homework.
4. If you don’t try.
5. Because of the typhoon.
COMPLEX SENTENCE
 It contains at least one independent clause and at least
one dependent clause.
 If a sentence begins with a dependent clause, there is
a comma after this clause. If, on the other hand, the
sentence begins with an independent clause, there is
no comma separating the two clauses (Pearson
Education Inc., 2001).
INDEPENDENT CLAUSE
 contains a subject and verb and expresses a complete
thought.
 Otherwise known as subordinate clause that
is connected by subordinating conjunctions.
 can refer to the subject (who, which),
the sequence/time (since, while), or the
causal elements (because, if) of the
independent clause.
DEPENDENT CLAUSE
Subordinating Conjunctions
connect subordinating clause and independent clause.
Because of the upcoming Foundation Day, the
students are preparing variety shows.
The students ran outside the room as soon as
the bell rang.
COMPOUND SENTENCE
It contains two or more independent clauses. These two
independent clauses can be combined using a comma (,)
and coordinating conjunctions, or with a semicolon (;).
COORDINATING CONJUNCTION
are joiners. They join like with like. For example, a
coordinating conjunction can be used to join an adjective
with another adjective, a noun with another noun, or a
clause with another clause.
Alice Gou is caught in Indonesia and Apollo Quiboloy is
caught in Davao.
Cervantes is a beautiful municipality and it is a peaceful
community.
Harry Potter is filled with magical adventures; The Lord of
the Rings takes you on an epic journey through Middle-
earth.
Each group will send one representative to write on the board.
That representative will not repeat to answer giving chance to
other members of the group.
