What is scientificinquiry?
Mercury takes a little more than 58
days to complete its rotation, so try
to imagine how long days must be
there! Since the temperatures are so
extreme, albeit not as extreme as on
Venus, Mercury has been deemed to
be non-habitable for humans
Mercury is the closest planet to the
Sun and the smallest one in the
entire Solar System. Contrary to
popular belief, this planet's name
has nothing to do with the liquid
metal. Mercury was, instead, named
after the famous Roman messenger
god Mercurius

Discovering
and
understanding
the world
Do youknow what helps you make your
point crystal clear? Lists like this one:
● They’re simple
● You can organize your ideas clearly
● You’ll never forget to buy milk!
And the most important thing: the
audience won’t miss the point of your
presentation

Activity 1: themagic plate
Discover in this experiment the importance of soap
Material required
1 plate with water
Ground pepper
Hand soap
Analysis of the experiment Conclusions
Write your ideas here Write your ideas here
1. In the dish with water, add the
ground pepper (it would be like
a “virus” on your hands)
2. Then add the hand soap
3. Observe what happens

How do youask scientific
questions?
Here are some simple examples of scientific questions
01 Why do objects float on water?
02 Why do tree leaves change color in autumn?
03 What makes bubbles spherical?
04 How does the amount of water you give a plant affect its growth?
05 Why is the sky blue during the day and orange/red during sunset?

Activity 3: Observation
Howlong does it take for an ice cube to melt in different places in the house?
Material required
Ice cubes Chronometer
Conclusions
Write your ideas here
Place an ice cube in different places in the
house, for example: on the kitchen counter,
in the refrigerator, outside, in the shade, in
your bedroom, in the living room
Observe and record how long it takes for the
ice cube to completely melt in each location
Start the timer or watch the moment you
place the ice cube in each location

Observation log
Scientists recordtheir observations in scientific notebooks or journals in a
systematic and organized manner. This documentation is essential for the
scientific method, as it helps capture the research process, collected data,
conclusions, and insights. Here's a guide on how scientists typically carry out this
process:
Include experiments and
