other people’s works. But this degree offers so much more, exploring the connections of the
various literary genres with history, philosophy, politics, and literary theory. Indeed, nothing
defines “multidisciplinary” more than comparative literature.
Society and the modern world benefit from this field as it is concerned with the intersections
of literature with other cultural forms: from film and music to the visual arts, new media,
and even translation studies.

At its core, courses in comparative literature introduce us to the more diverse and more
global world, from Western and Eastern to South Asian perspectives. Nothing is taken in a
vacuum; everything is closely studied in context, from demographic to era, from people to
politics.
With a concentration in comparative literature, students are afforded an excellent foundation
for further graduate studies work, from master’s degrees in cultural studies to law. More
importantly, this degree fosters critical thinking, strong writing skills and foreign-language
