The Importance of being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. Here the comparison between both his novels, The picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of being Earnest .
11. The consequence of the actions is a struggle the Id faces,
assatisfying his desires makes the Id completely ignorant about
what calamity may be caused in the resultof that satisfaction.
Algernon in the play is a really careless character in a more than
one scenarios.Like the following quote in which shows
carelessness of Algernon about the consequences of hisactions:
“Algernon: to-morrow , Lane, I'm going Bunburying...I shall
probably not be back tillMonday. You can put up my dress clothes,
my smoking jacket, and all the bunbury suits..”(Wilde,1895).
without a second thought or a permission form Jack, he is going to
pretend to be Jack’s brother. In order to satisfy that hunger deep
inside him, he operates without thinking about the outcome.
LikeJack may get angry or he may cause something inevitable, but
no he heard about this Cecily girl andhe’s interested in her. And
that desire has to be satisfied as always.
12. In contrast with the id ,superego wishes everyone to be
moral and follow social values just like how herself does
always other to be respect and social values. like in the
following quote by Lady Bracknell: “Lady Bracknell:
Goodafternoon, dear Algernon, I hope you are behaving
very well.” (Wilde, 1895). Well in point of view of Victorian
society behaving is good measurement for respecting
society values. More like if you behavewell that means you
are being moral, and that’s same reason why Lady
Bracknell asked how he is behaving and not how he is.
How are you is not related to morality, so it’s not required
for superego.
13. Through the lens of psychoanalytic theory,
Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray has the
social value of providing a representation of the
consequences one may face if one fails to
balance the three parts of the mind. Thus
encouraging its readers to further educate
themselves in psychoanalytic theory and
psycohanalysis in order to achieve balance of
the mind.
14. The Id, the Ego, and the Superego are individually
identified in specific characters portrayed in the
novel.
