The Ibm Knowledge Factory

  1. Companies are increasingly taking a global approach to learning, and not only for delivery but also for content development. At IBM we created the Knowledge Factory, an industrialised approach to content creation. The 10 global locations, including low cost centres in Spain, India and China, work together around a common concept, methodology, role definition and toolset. By applying common method and job roles and using a collaborative toolset across the Knowledge Factory network, projects can be off-shored or co-developed by virtual teams anywhere in the world. The Knowledge Factory has allowed us to reduce cycle time and cost of development and to increase reuse for ourselves and our clients. This presentation will cover the history of the Knowledge Factory network, that goes back before the year 2000 and its evolution to date. We will also cover the current process, milestones, roles and tools. Next we'll present some examples of global projects and finally we will share some lessons learned.
