The drainage basin hydrological cycle: The Water Balance
What is the Hydrological cycle? Spend 3 minutes attempting to draw a labelled hydrological cycle The hydrological cycle is an example of a system – Write a definition of the concept of a system
There are many different ways of showing the hydrological cycle – you must be familiar with them all and be able to explain all of the terms (see sheet)
Task 1: You have a worksheet which has most of the key words needed to understand the hydrological cycle. When asked – come up and draw your part of the cycle on the board – everyone must create their own diagram as we go! Stick the words and meanings on your diagram
What are the Main Inputs?… What are the main flows (or transfers) or stores? What are the main outputs? What do you think open and closed systems are? Give 2 examples of how humans might influence the hydrological cycle. Complete extension task…..
Independent time to clarify key points – Use the next ten minutes to check that you have detailed notes on the lesson so far. Pages 2 and 3 in the text book has lots of additional information, terms and explanations. Use it to supplement your notes. Ask me to clarify where needed. Finish for homework Check: Pick a key term – explain to your partner what the term is – how it works and see if they can guess what the term is
