3. THE CONCEPT OF ENVIRONMENTAL
SUSTAINABILITY FROM THE SHARIAH
PERSPECTIVES
Clean environment is important for human survival,
health and quality of life.
Man and nature are the two main components of
green energy in the eco system of human life.
Both were created together as interdependent
and interrelated. If one had the time of extinction,
the entire ecosystem will be destroyed.

4. Shariah law prohibits people from doing mischief on
earth.
This prohibition has been explained in Surah al-
Baqarah, verse 11 and 12, which translated as:
‘When it is said to them: “make not mischief on the
earth,” They say: “Why, we only want to make
peace!” Of a surety, they are the ones who make
mischief, but they realise (it) not.’

5. Man activities contributes to the mischief and
damage to the earth such as the environmental
pollution, forest fires and open burning. Allah SWT
mentioned in Surah Ar-Rum, verse 41 translated as:
“Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of
the greed and the hands of men have earned, that
Allah may give them a taste of some of their deeds:
in order that they may turn back (from Evil).”

11. MODEL ISLAMIC FINANCING OF GREEN INDUSTRY
Musyarakah based framework for Islamic microfinance
projects was created to provide appropriate access in
areas outside the grid from renewable energy areas
where it does not exist and the area is not large (Goud
B., 2012).
Financing projects have also been implemented in
Indonesia in which one bank, Bank Syariah Mandiri
provides project financing with Musyarakah (Shahrudin,
2006).
Islamic financing green energy model may be modified
in accordance with the structure of green technology,
but it does not require big modification because of the
obvious similarities between green energy and green
technology.

12. CONCLUSIONS
Preservation of environmental sustainability is the duty of
every individual on this earth.
Islam encourages the exploration of knowledge related
to the usage of technology as catalyst in ensuring
quality of environment which lead to the quality of life.
Green technology is seen as a tool to help people
maintain environmental sustainability locally and
globally.
Initiatives to encourage the development of green
technologies should be realized through the scheme of
Islamic financing.
With funding scheme, it will not only help people who
want to venture green energy projects, but it can
encourage those who have small capital to operate the
business based on the equipment of green technology.
