An expert in the law asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus replied that he must love God with all his heart, soul, strength and mind and love his neighbor as himself. When the expert agreed this was correct, Jesus told him to do this and he will live. Later, Jesus tells a parable about a traveler who was assaulted, and asks which of three people who came upon him was a "neighbor." The expert replies the one who had mercy. Jesus tells him to go and do the same.

Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked,
“what must I do to inherit
eternal life?” “What is
written in the Law?” he

it?”
