The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
5. 1 He entered Jericho and was passing
The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
through. 2 And behold, there was a man
name Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax
collector and was rich.
6. “He was the kingpin of
the Jericho tax cartel
and had the scruples
of a modern-day crack
dealer. He was filthy
rich in the fullest
sense of the term.”
7. 3 And he was seeking to see who Jesus
The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
was, but on account of the crowd he
could not, because he was small in
stature. 4 So he ran on ahead and climb-
ed up into a sycamore tree to see him,
for he was about to pass that way.
8. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, he
The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus,
hurry and come down, for I must stay at
your house today.”
9. Key Point
Long before you ever
became interested in Jesus,
Jesus was already
deeply interested in you.
10. 6 So he hurried and came down and
The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
received him joyfully.
11. “…to all who did
receive him, to those
who believed in his
name, he gave the
right to become
children of God….”
~ The Gospel of John, 1:12
12. Jesus I do now receive Him
More than all in Him I find
He has granted me forgiveness
I am His, and He is mine
Hallelujah! What a Saviour!
Hallelujah! What a Friend!
13. 7 And when they saw it, they all grumbled,
The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
“He has gone in to be the guest of a man
who is a sinner.”
14. 8 And Zacchaeus stood and said to the
The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods
I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded
anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.”
15. “…they should repent and
turn to God, performing
deeds in keeping with
repentance.”
~ Acts 26:20
21. Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
22. 10 “For the Son of Man came to seek
The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10
and to save the lost.”
23. “And to him was given dominion and glory
and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and
languages should serve him; his dominion is
an everlasting dominion, which shall not
pass away, and his kingdom one that shall
not be destroyed.”
~ Daniel 7:13-14
24. Why does Luke record this
encounter in his historical
biography of Jesus?
