How Can I Be A Neighbor? The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)Mark Wickersham
This was a middle school assembly presentation I gave at Tianjin International School (China). Jesus tells us we are to show love and compassion to those we encounter in life.
An expert in the law asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus replied that he must love God with all his heart, soul, strength and mind and love his neighbor as himself. When the expert agreed this was correct, Jesus told him to do this and he will live. Later, Jesus tells a parable about a traveler who was assaulted, and asks which of three people who came upon him was a "neighbor." The expert replies the one who had mercy. Jesus tells him to go and do the same.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan is a wonderful story that Jesus tells to illustrate how we have to love our neighbors as ourselves. It is about a generous person who was ready to provide help to a stranger in distress without hesitation. We should never ignore people when they are in need and assist them no matter who or what they are. Jesus heals a man with leprosy by touching him and saying "Be clean". Despite Jesus' instructions, news of the healing spreads. Jesus often withdraws to lonely places to pray. A man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus tells him to love God and love his neighbor. The man asks who his neighbor is, and Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan, showing that the neighbor is the one who helped the injured man, regardless of his religion or nationality.

The document discusses the nature of friendship, particularly Christian friendship. It provides quotes that define a friend as someone who knows you fully but loves you unconditionally, who will support you no matter what and tell you the truth even when it's difficult to hear. Jesus calls his disciples friends and says there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for a friend. The document explores what makes an effective friend, including trust, loyalty, and not judging others.
According to statistics, over half of South Africans live below the poverty line, and economic inequality remains high despite rising average incomes. The Bible passage recounts Jesus telling the parable of the Good Samaritan, in which a Samaritan helps a Jew who was robbed and injured, illustrating that all people are neighbors deserving of mercy. The document then poses three questions about the importance and extent of mercy ministry for Christians, and helping the poor.
The document discusses values of community engagement and disciple-making. It outlines phases of developing disciple-making groups over time from 2006-2015. Key Bible passages from Luke discuss loving God and others, and the parable of the Good Samaritan showing mercy to those in need. The document encourages doing good works in the community and among believers.

This document discusses the interaction between Jesus and one of the thieves being crucified alongside him, as recorded in Luke 23:43. It provides background context on Jesus' arrest and crucifixion. It then analyzes the different responses of the two thieves - one hurling insults while the other acknowledges his sin and asks Jesus to remember him. Jesus promises the repentant thief that today he will be in paradise with Jesus. The document encourages emulating the second thief's humility and faith in God during suffering.
This document discusses the importance of generosity and living generously. It provides quotes from religious figures about generosity and giving. Bible passages are cited that portray God and Jesus as examples of ultimate generosity in giving their son and life. The document encourages readers to replicate God's generosity by giving of themselves and their talents as Jesus commanded and modeled through his own life.
Jesus knew that he would soon be crucified and expresses his sorrow to God, saying "if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me." While it did not make sense for an innocent person to die for the sins of others, it was God's will for Jesus to sacrifice himself to save humanity. According to God's justice, humans deserve death for their sins, but Jesus took our place, so that through his blood we can be made innocent. When Jesus spoke of "this cup," he referred to God's wrath that he would endure on the cross to accomplish our salvation through his sacrifice, demonstrating God's great love for humanity.

The Miracle of Mercy - Part 6 - From Misery To MercyLifePointe Church
This message is Part 6 of the series “The Miracle Of Mercy” by Pastor Chuck Bernal. In this message Pastor Chuck talks about how we can help people move “From Misery To Mercy”.
One of the most important things we can do as Christians is to pass on the mercy we have received from God to others, especially in tangible acts of kindness and compassion. Mercy is unearned kindness - literally "LOVE IN ACTION". Using the story of The Good Samaritan, Pastor Chuck talks about why and how we should show tangible kindness to others and how we can help to move people "From Misery To Mercy".
This message was delivered at LifePointe Church on Sunday, October 23, 2016
The document discusses the importance of loving God, our neighbors, and even our enemies. It cites several Bible passages that instruct believers to love God with all their heart, soul and mind. It also references passages about loving our neighbors as ourselves and doing good to those who hate us. Jesus Forgives the Thief on the Cross (Finding Forgiveness)bryansnoof
1) The document discusses the biblical view of forgiveness, noting that true forgiveness requires love, a decision to forgive, and sacrifice rather than just agreeing, pretending the offense didn't happen, or giving people what they deserve.
2) It provides the example of Jesus forgiving those who crucified him and the example of a thief being forgiven by Jesus.
3) The conclusion is that forgiveness can be found at the church through kindness to others, at the cross through Jesus' sacrifice, and at the empty tomb through Jesus' resurrection, which allows restoration, cleansing, and being forgiven through God.

This document summarizes a sermon about turning misery into mercy based on a Bible passage. In the passage, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan to answer a scholar's question about who qualifies as a neighbor. The parable tells of a traveler who was robbed, beaten, and left for dead, and was helped by an unlikely character, a Samaritan, showing him mercy. Jesus tells the scholar to go and do likewise, showing mercy to others. The sermon notes that loving God and loving people are inseparable, and religious activity without love is worthless. It encourages seeing the hurting people around us and treating others with the same mercy we desire for ourselves.
This document contains the agenda for a Warriors Bible Study group meeting on June 27th at Bill and Mary Sansing's home. It includes a prayer/praise list with over 30 items and people in need of prayer. The document discusses several Bible passages about discipleship, counseling one another, bearing each other's burdens, and the parable of the Good Samaritan. It poses discussion questions about what discipleship and counseling mean, what the Law of Christ is, and which person in the parable was a neighbor.
This document provides an overview of the costs and rewards of discipleship according to Christian teachings. It discusses how discipleship requires undivided loyalty to Christ above all else, and being willing to suffer persecution for one's faith. It also emphasizes the importance of self-discipline and overcoming sin. While the path of discipleship is difficult, it promises imperishable rewards in heaven like eternal life in God's presence without suffering. The document encourages weighing the gains of faith against worldly attractions.

The document discusses love as the essence of the gospel. It outlines the two greatest commandments to love God with all your heart and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself. It encourages loving yourself by not regretting being too kind. It emphasizes loving your neighbor by regarding those around you as brothers and sisters. It promotes loving your family as the Atonement shows Christ's perfect love for each person. And it concludes by encouraging loving your Savior through embracing His merciful, patient, gracious, and forgiving love.
The document discusses several Bible passages about Christians being salt and light in the world. It discusses how Jesus came to give life abundantly and how keeping his commands allows us to remain in his love. It also discusses the parable of the Good Samaritan, in which a Samaritan helps a Jew who was robbed and injured, exemplifying being a good neighbor regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
Some notes from recent teaching sessions - they are aimed at giving more of a background / preparatory idea about how a person might move into a position to be "anointed" by God.
The document discusses the importance of loving one's neighbor according to spiritual teachings. It cites the Bible verse that loving God and loving one's neighbor as oneself are the two greatest commandments. Spiritist texts explain that love is the finest sentiment that summarizes Jesus' complete doctrine. Selfishness is identified as the root of all vices, and spirits purify themselves of selfishness through successive lives. To truly love one's neighbor, individuals must think less of their own interests and realize that others have thought of them too. Loving one's neighbor expresses the most complete form of charity by summarizing all of man's obligations towards his fellow men.
The document discusses the importance, effectiveness, and understanding of prayer. It explains that prayer strengthens one's ability to resist evil and receive help from good spirits. While specific words are not important, directing one's thoughts to higher powers with confidence and conviction is meaningful. Prayer establishes a fluidic connection that allows thoughts to be transmitted from one being to another, whether on Earth or in the spirit world. The document provides perspectives on prayer from Spiritism and other religious texts.
This document discusses the parable of the Good Samaritan and what it teaches about how Christians should treat their neighbors. It emphasizes that believers are commanded to love their neighbors as themselves. The parable shows that true neighbors are anyone in need of help, not just those in one's own group. Christians should follow the Good Samaritan's example by showing mercy, sacrificing their time and resources to help those suffering, regardless of who they are. The ultimate goal is for believers to obey Jesus by keeping his two greatest commands: to love God and love their neighbors.

This parable is about luck and chance in regards to winning the lottery. It uses the metaphor of a blindfolded person throwing horseshoes towards stakes in the ground on a lawn to represent randomly picking lottery numbers. E.ON operates 17 nuclear power plants in Germany and Sweden with a total installed capacity of around 7.8 GW. Nuclear power plants are capable of flexible load follow operation to compensate for fluctuations in renewable energy sources like wind and solar. German nuclear power plants have demonstrated the ability to change power output by up to 140 MW per minute. While frequent startups and shutdowns are avoided for safety, load follow operation is possible on a daily basis without notable effects on maintenance needs or component wear over decades of operation. Nuclear plants provide highly flexible power generation compared to fossil fuel plants.

This document provides a summary of the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector found in Luke 18:9-14. In the parable, a Pharisee and tax collector go to the temple to pray. The Pharisee boasts of his righteousness and looks down on others, while the tax collector humbly asks for God's mercy as a sinner. Jesus uses this parable to teach that those who exalt themselves will be humbled, while those who humble themselves will be exalted, and that no amount of good works can save us - only God's mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

Goodness has had many definitions throughout history but can be understood as doing good and avoiding evil. Plato described the "Form of the Good" which allows one to understand other forms and provides truth and knowledge. The Form of the Good is in the intelligible realm and gives power to know to the knower, though it is difficult to clearly explain. Aristotle saw the highest good as happiness achieved through living according to reason. Opposite to goodness is evil, which some see as an aberration resulting from human imperfection, while others argue it is learned from tyrannical social structures.
A lawyer asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus tells him to love God and love his neighbor. The lawyer then asks who his neighbor is. Jesus responds by telling the Parable of the Good Samaritan. In the parable, a Samaritan helps an injured man on the side of the road when others passed him by. Jesus asks the lawyer which person was a neighbor to the injured man, and the lawyer responds that it was the one who showed him mercy. Jesus then tells the lawyer to go and do likewise.
The passage describes a man crying out to God about injustice and wrongdoing in the world. It says destruction, violence, strife and conflict are everywhere, and the law is paralyzed while justice never prevails. The wicked oppress the righteous and justice is perverted.
This document contains the text of a sermon given at the Jackson Street Church of Christ. The sermon discusses Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25-37 and focuses on teaching lessons about developing Christ-like compassion. It examines how Jesus showed compassion to others and encourages Christians to cultivate compassion by learning to see others' suffering, feel their pain, act to help them, be willing to make personal sacrifices of time and resources, and put compassion into practice in their own lives as Jesus commanded. The overall message is that followers of Christ should strive to develop greater compassion for those in need.

Our culture tells us that we need to “hurry up” and get things done. Hurry up and work or hurry up and pray. But this works against nearly every form of relationship we have in life. In fact, to live life “to the full” we need to slow down and take time to “BE” in our relationships. Not only with God, but with people as well. If we slow down and ABIDE in Him, that breaks us free of the rigid, legalistic life that we often rush through.
Jesus was crucified between two criminals at a place called The Skull. While being mocked and scoffed at by rulers and soldiers, Jesus forgave those responsible for his crucifixion. One criminal railed against Jesus but the other acknowledged Jesus had done nothing wrong and asked to be remembered by Jesus in his kingdom, to which Jesus replied that the criminal would be with him in Paradise that day.

Every Christian is to be "on mission." Every Christian is to have a ministry. Though we don’t always see ourselves as being ministers of the ‘good news,” we are all called to engage with people! This week we will look at: Types of sharing we can do, why it is important to share, and some practical steps to begin a life of sharing.
Jesus teaches that the greatest commandments are to love God with all your being and to love your neighbor as yourself. When James and John ask to sit at Jesus' right and left in glory, Jesus says they do not know what they are asking and that true greatness comes from service, not status. He reminds his disciples that he came to serve and give his life for others.
Simon of Cyrene was forced to carry Jesus' cross to the crucifixion site. Many people, including women, followed and mourned for Jesus. At the crucifixion site, Jesus was crucified between two criminals. One criminal insulted Jesus while the other rebuked him and asked Jesus to remember him in paradise, to which Jesus replied that today they would be together in paradise. There was darkness over the land from noon until 3pm, and when Jesus died the temple curtain was torn in two.
The document summarizes the Parable of the Good Samaritan told by Jesus in response to a question from a lawyer. In the parable, a traveler is beaten and left for dead on the side of the road. First a priest and then a Levite pass by without helping, but a Samaritan stops to aid the man, despite Samaritans being disliked by Jews. Jesus uses the parable to teach that neighbors are those in need regardless of religion or identity, and that the command to love others requires compassionate action. The parable's lessons are to set aside prejudice and help those in need, that all people are neighbors, and that no one can perfectly follow God's law without grace
Alejandro González Iñárritu wanted to explore the contradiction between how communication tools have made the world seem small yet people still struggle to communicate on a fundamental level through his film Babel. The passage also discusses a vision for building a Christian community that attracts people to Christ and sends them out to serve God. It then summarizes a Bible passage where Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan to answer who is considered a neighbor.

When the Pharisees hear the crowds discussing Jesus' signs and wonders, they send temple police to arrest him. Jesus tells the crowd that soon he must go back to the one who sent him, and that when they search for him they will not find him.

1) Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan in response to a lawyer asking how to inherit eternal life. In the parable, a Samaritan helps an injured man while a priest and Levite do not, showing that neighbors are those who show mercy.
2) Jesus tells the lawyer that he must go and likewise show mercy to others, including those of other faiths or backgrounds. Christians are called to help everyone in need as an act of neighborly love.
Jesus is brought before Pilate and Herod and accused of crimes but found innocent. The crowds demand Barabbas be released instead of Jesus. Jesus is crucified between two criminals. One criminal repents as Jesus promises him paradise. With Jesus' death, the temple curtain is torn in two, signifying direct access to God.
Jesus was buried in a tomb cut out of rock by Joseph of Arimathea, a secret disciple of Jesus. Joseph wrapped Jesus' body in a linen cloth and laid it in the tomb. A large stone was rolled in front of the entrance to the tomb to seal it.
Jesus was crucified and died on the cross. Before he died, he said "It is finished" and gave up his spirit. A soldier pierced Jesus' side with a spear to confirm that he was dead, and blood and water flowed out, fulfilling prophecy.
Jesus was crucified outside of Jerusalem after carrying his cross to Golgotha. He was placed between two thieves and the sign above his head read "This is Jesus, the King of the Jews." While hanging on the cross, Jesus was mocked and insulted by those passing by and one of the thieves crucified next to him also mocked Jesus.
Jesus was mocked and beaten by the soldiers. They dressed him in a purple robe and twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They struck him on the head with a staff and spat on him, falling on their knees and paying homage to him. When they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off and put his own clothes on him and led him away to be crucified.
Jesus was brought before the high priest Caiaphas and other religious leaders, where witnesses falsely accused him. When the high priest questioned Jesus about his teachings, Jesus affirmed that he was the Son of God. In response, the high priest tore his clothes in outrage and declared that Jesus had spoken blasphemy, making him worthy of death.
Peter denied knowing Jesus three times, just as Jesus had predicted. When Jesus was led away and placed in the high priest's courtyard, Peter followed from a distance. There, a servant girl said to those around that Peter was with Jesus, but he denied it. Later, someone else said to those standing by that Peter was one of Jesus' disciples, but again he denied it. About an hour later, another man insisted that Peter must have been with Jesus because of his accent, and for the third time Peter denied it.
Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of his twelve disciples. Judas led a crowd armed with swords and clubs sent by the chief priests and elders to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. When the disciples saw what was happening, they asked Jesus if they should fight, but Jesus told them to put their sword away and that all who live by the sword will die by the sword.
Jesus went to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion. He was deeply distressed and prayed fervently that God would take away his suffering if possible. Jesus was betrayed by Judas and arrested by the guards while praying with his disciples.
The Last Supper was Jesus' final meal with his disciples before his crucifixion. During the meal, Jesus announced that one of his disciples would betray him. He also established the tradition of communion by blessing bread and wine to represent his body and blood that would be sacrificed.
This passage from 1 John discusses the testimony of God regarding his Son and eternal life. It states that God's testimony about his Son and the gift of eternal life through him is greater than any human testimony. It declares that whoever believes in God's testimony that he has given about his Son accepts this gift of eternal life, but whoever does not believe effectively calls God a liar. The testimony is that God has given believers eternal life through his Son, and that whoever has the Son has life, while whoever does not have the Son does not have life.
1. The document discusses how to identify true prophets from false prophets. True prophets acknowledge that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, while false prophets do not acknowledge the truth about Jesus.
2. Believers are instructed to not believe every spirit but to test them, as there are many false prophets. Those who have the Spirit of God acknowledge Jesus, while those who do not have the spirit of antichrist.
3. The Spirit of God within believers is greater than the spirit in the world, so believers have already conquered the spirit of antichrist. Believers belong to God and speak from His viewpoint, so others will recognize the Spirit of truth in them.
The document discusses walking in the light of God. It states that God is light and there is no darkness in him. If we walk in the light as God is in the light, we can have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from sin. It encourages confessing sins so that we may be forgiven and not deceive ourselves.
The document summarizes a passage from 1 John discussing the author's motive for writing. The author states that they witnessed Jesus firsthand and are now sharing their experience of communion with God so that others may enjoy it as well and their joy may be doubled. The passage discusses how God is pure light with no darkness, and that if people claim to have fellowship with God but continue in darkness, they are lying, but if they walk in the light, they can have fellowship with God and each other through Jesus' sacrifice which purges sin.
This week is Session 12 of our series Naturally Supernatural and Rachel looks at running your own race and Jesus being the author and perfecter of our faith
The document discusses the spiritual gifts of prophesy, healing, speaking in tongues, and how love is the most important gift. It states that not all believers have the same gifts and encourages earnestly desiring the most helpful gifts. Love is described as being patient, kind, and lasting forever, while other gifts will become useless once perfection comes. The document emphasizes that love is the most important and leads to maturity.
Glen introduces himself and shares two Bible passages from Luke about asking God and receiving. The first passage encourages asking God for what you need. The second says God, as a good father, will give good gifts like the Holy Spirit to his children. The document then shares three parables from Matthew about workers in a vineyard to illustrate that God's generosity and kindness extends to all. It follows with a passage from 1 Corinthians emphasizing that without love, even great gifts are worthless. Love is described as patient, kind, and hoping. While prophecies and knowledge will cease, love will never fail. The greatest things are faith, hope and love, but love is greatest.
This document discusses how to share the gospel message in a way that provides hope, power, and humor to people. It notes that the gospel should be good news that helps people find hope when they feel hopeless, power when they feel helpless, and humor when they are hurt. It references Jesus' message from Mark 1:15 about repenting and believing the good news of the kingdom of God. The document suggests that the gospel message is for all people, listing various groups that Jesus is a friend to, and quotes Luke 4:18-19 about proclaiming freedom for the oppressed.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

4. 25 On one occasion an expert in the law
stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he
asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal
life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he
replied. “How do you read it?”
7. 27 He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your strength and with all your
mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as
yourself.’”
8. 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus
replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he
asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
10. 30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down
from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was
attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his
clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him
half dead.
12. 31 A priest happened to be going down the
same road, and when he saw the man,he
passedby on the other side. 32 So too, a
Levite, when he came to the place and saw him,
passedby on the other side. 33 But a
Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man
was; and when he saw him, he took pity on
him.
14. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds,
pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man
on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and
took care of him. 35 The next day he took out
two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper.
‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I
will reimburse you for any extra expenseyou
may have.’
15. 36 “Which of these three do you think was a
neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of
robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who
had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
