2. ISD Yesterday and Today
How has ISD expanded in its use
¤ From the Classic implementation, focused on
higher education and corporate settings
¤ Today’s implementation reflects current
need for speed of design, development and
ability to quickly revise
¤ Today’s models are flexibly adaptive to
audiences and technology

8. UNT and the Dept of Learning Technology
UNT is the nation’s 26th largest public university and the
largest in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
National and Internationally respected faculty including
Drs. Mike Spector, Gerald Knezek, Cathie Norris, and
others
MS in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems with
specific tracks focused on
¤ Instructional Systems Design
¤ Instructional Systems Technology
¤ Teaching and Learning with Technology
¤ Technology and Assessment
Drs. Scott Warren, Greg Jones • Dept of Learning Technologies • College of Information
9. PhD in Learning Technologies
A PhD in Learning Technologies focused on Instructional,
Learning, and Educational Technologies. The PhD is available
both as a residency or a distance delivered program.
The new distance delivered option provides
¤ Courses delivered 100% online
¤ Small Cohort Sizes. 26-30 students start each two years
¤ Annual yearly meeting in conjunction with ISTE each June (4-5 days)
¤ Full-time mentoring provided by an Assoc Grad Faculty member
throughout coursework and into dissertation
¤ Portfolio in lieu of Qualifying Examination
¤ 60 hours + 9 hours tools (6 hours each spring, summer, and fall)
¤ 4.5 years program

10. Integrating ISD into degree programs
How we integrate ISD into the MS and PhD programs and
how we connect those to the previous slides.
¤ Student-centered research
¤ Course work
¤ Internships
Working with industry we try to ensure course outcomes
are matching required industry needs.
