Tutorial # 3
Enlightenment was a prevalent topic in the 18th century. In 1784 Kant, Immanuel wrote An Answer
to the Question: What is Enlightenment?. In which Kant sheds light on the distinction between
public and private reason using many different instances. Kant proposes that public use of freedom
is essential for enlightenment, but says the private reason is not as useful as public. Similarly, this
paper will argue that public freedom can more effectively lead to enlightenment, but private
reasoning can also lead to enlightenment using present day examples, comparing past and present
circumstances and indulging into the outcome of both private and public reasons.
Kant explains, "Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self–imposed immaturity. Immaturity is
the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another" (Kant, 35). Although
immaturity in today's linguistic language is thought of as being irresponsible or childish, Kant
however uses immaturity to describe the incapability to be able to think on your own. Additionally
Kant explains that an immature person becomes so dependent on others to make his decisions that
he overlooks thinking for himself. Kant uses an analogy of restrained animals, like cattle and how
they "will not dare take a single step without go–cart to which they

The Importance Of Education In The 21st Century
Teaching and learning in the 21st century develop skills beyond listening, watching and
remembering. Education in the 21st century incorporates advanced learning tools, development of
skills, while actively involved in your own learning and environment. Also, education today is
motivating while inspiring and preparing students for today's world. Students gain the ability to
adapt when needed for the changing world of tomorrow. Twenty–first century education is
understanding how students learn with a more hands–on approach while building skills. However,
the '4C's creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration' (Kolk, 2011) are skills that
are important for students learning. Therefore, they can actively consume and create data and
knowledge in ways that deliver substance and relevance to them (Bolstad, Gilbert, McDowall, Bull,
Boyd & Hipkins, 2012; Watson, 2012). Clearly, the classroom in the 21st century is a modern
environment. This modern environment consisting of little groups of tables placed together for
students to sit and learn together as well as discuss what they are doing. Meanwhile, displaying
student's art to decorate the classroom has a sense of pride. Above all, the classroom has visible
items as an interactive whiteboard, Internet access, projector and computers, accessible for student
and teachers daily.

of their own learning. Therefore,

Sir Thomas More Contributed On The 19th Century And Future...
Sir Thomas More contributed immensely to political thought in both the 16th century and future
generations in his complex novel Utopia. Influenced by Plato's Republic, More describes the
concept of one potential state of a perfect commonwealth which has led to much speculation and
debate. The fictional island of the Utopians is argued to have heavily influenced communism and
brings to the fore both the concepts of idealism and pragmatism and the difficulty of balancing them.
The novel largely focuses on the concept of knowledge and the theme of power – how it should be
used and the fatalities it can cause. In my essay, I will critically examine the relationship between
knowledge and power in the text whilst establishing the key facts and important issues surrounding
the relationship.
The noun 'Utopia' now denotes 'an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect'
and is linked to both Communism and Marxism. The novel was written in Latin and is thereby
intended to be read in this language, yet despite the translation to English, perhaps which adds to the
confusing nature of the book, it is noted that 'even erudite Renaissance humanists – the audience to
whom More addressed the great social–political questions of his time –might not have understood
the subtle brunt of his irony.'
As More discusses the issues of his contemporary European society in Book 1 of Utopia, the
relationship between knowledge and power is first established in relation to the

What Does 21st Century Literacy Mean To Me
What does 21st century literacy mean to me? 21st century literacy has been the foundation of the
Ontario school curriculum since the early 2010s. The definition of what Ontario claims is literacy is
"...the ability to use language and images in rich and varied forms to read, write, listen, speak, view,
represent, discuss and think critically about ideas." (Paying Attention to Literacy document, 2013).
Literacy is very different from what I have learned in school. In today's society literacy takes many
forms. From Mental health to Financial literacy, each and everyone of them have a significant
impact on a student's life. These are very crucial to the understanding of how students interpret
curriculum that they are learning about in their classrooms presently. For children today, to be

This literacy is one in which even teachers need to understand. Many teachers have no idea how to
deal with mental illnesses because it is a very taboo topic for them to discuss. Teachers are
sometimes ignoring the fact that the second leading cause of death for adolescents is suicide
(Personal Communication, Mental Health Literacy group, 2016). This is significant because the risk
of this occurrence ever happening in the future is still very high. In my future curriculum I will be
teaching the students the basic signs of certain mental illnesses. This will help students understand
what their peers are going through if one of them is suffering from some sort of mental illness.
Furthermore, students will also know and come to a better understanding of themselves if they have
a mental illness. That what they have the ability to talk to me privately if they are suffering from a
mental illness to which they can articulate what they are feeling to me so I can help them out

Hard Drive Dq
Firstly, with a hard drive, much information can be stored and kept safe, including maps, videos,
photos, and statistics to show and explain the past. Like ancient Greek manuscripts, the hard drive
would be the most important part of the time capsule. The files stored in the capsule would not take
too long to gather, but a long time to read. The files contained in the storage unit would include
global warming statistics, stocks of that past couple years, census statistics, medical statistics, and
all that could fit in 15 terabytes of space. Other than statistics, photos, videos, and maps would be on
the drive. Documentation of the current world would be placed on the drive, including a video
message from the creator of the time capsule, and pictures and maps of the area it was planted. In
conclusion, the hard drive would be the main item of the capsule, containing all the information
needed. Secondly, an item that would be more valuable over time could be useful such as a ring. The
finder of the capsule could either make use the ring or sell it and make a bit of money. The item
would have no need for a fourteen–karat gold ring, but even simple titanium or maybe silver make.

The Darkling Thrush
The Darkling Thrush –Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)
________________________________________ INTRODUCTION The Darkling Thrush is
included in Poems of the Past and the Present (1901), which contains many poems expressing
Hardy's dismay with British imperialism. There he also mourns the passing of agricultural society
and sees little cause to celebrate England's rapid industrialization, which destroy the customs and
traditions of rural life. Here in The Darkling Thrush, in the transition of two centuries, he finds
nothing hopeful or constructive. Yet there remain remote possibilities which the thrush prophesies.
THE WEATHER First of all the poet presents a desolate winter scene at the close of the day. People
living nearby had retired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What with Frost and winter and the land and birds stealing the show, there's not all that much space
for, well, humans. It's not that humans don't exist. It's just that they're apparently not worth writing
about. Life and death take on epic proportions in this poem, and only elements as ancient and
enduring as Frost seem big enough to fill the poem. With all that bigness and grandeur, the tiny
thrush seems completely and totally outmatched. Until, that is, he starts singing. FEAR What's there
to be afraid of in the world of "The Darkling Thrush"? We're so glad you asked. It turns out that the
answer is quite simple: everything. The world's going to hell in a hand basket, and our speaker is
bound and determined to be a tour guide along the way. Sure, there aren't any actual ghosts and
ghouls and creepy–crawlies around, but people who seem to be ghostly and ghoulish might just be
scarier than the real thing. CONCLUSION Hardy's The Darkling Thrush is the basis of Hardy's self–
designated "evolutionary meliorism". Hardy has a growing consciousness or awareness of the
'blessed hope' for the future generation. Hardy is basically pessimistic but a note of optimism is
noticed here in his faith in man's future. The song of the thrush is joyous and spontaneous. The bird
by virtue of its instinct knows the future but the poet is not aware of. Here Hardy's

Creating An Education System For Education Systems
Creating an education system that is capable of preparing students for the future, education systems
need to be configured into a new, more knowledge centered way of learning. Deconstructing
established structures and routines in education systems involves several planning and practices
coming together in learning and teaching to better reflect the demands of the 21st century world.
Personalised learning advocates that educational systems must change from the traditional or
industrial age of thinking one size fits all model. Personalised learning is a part of an educational
system that surrounds the student as a learner rather than the student requiring to fit in with the
system. This type of learning can be seen in a 21st century classroom, as the class using digital
technology and using an app called Mathletics which has each students required level of
mathematics which could range from low to high, each student works and learns at their own pace,
this is in favour of the teacher stand in front of the class and teach, as students who don't understand
get lost very quickly. Using personalised learning in the classroom helps the teacher to recognise
where each students level of comprehension is, each student has a personalised set task to complete.
Diversity, equity and inclusion is often referred to as a particular group of learners whom
educational success has been harder to achieve than that of other learners (Bolsted et al, 2012)

The Future Careers Of The 21st Century
Danny Mota (Decision Making) (Topic: Future Careers) (6/5/2015) (MP4) (PART I)
Q: Where will the jobs be in the next five years? Prepare a list of any four careers of the future. Be
specific.
A: There are hundreds of jobs that will be available in the next five years, but four of them will
outshine them all. Those four jobs will be: a software developer, surgeons, market research analyst,
and computer systems analyst. They will all play a vital role in the development of the 21st century,
determining if we humankind, will develop into the next level of technology. As a software
developer, the demand for mobile apps, cloud computing, and new software programs seems to be
insatiable, and, as a result, the position of software developer will continue to expand and grow in
the next decade. Software developers have creative minds, who develop applications that simplify
the daily human life. As a surgeon, your job is to diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses in patients.
The world will be needed a lot of surgeons because of the amount of doctors who will be retiring
from the professing during this period. As a market research analyst, you will work in nearly every
industry to gather information, analyze marketing data, and prepare reports on what they find. Since
an extraordinary amount of people will be looking to start a business in the near future, market
research analysts will help the businesses understand what products people want, who will buy
them, and at what price.

Summary Of Bellamy's Looking Backward
Bellamy's "Looking Backward" shows how Americans during the late 19th century disregard any
optimistic and utopian thinking of the future. Bellamy knew that the 19th century audience would be
inimical to any change to the current economic and social practices therefore he had a difficult task
in persuading the readers to consider his fictional ideal society. To do so, he had to place his utopian
vision of the future within the context of the 'rational' 19th century beliefs so that the readers can
compare and contrast his proposals for social and economic reforms. The freedom of choice seemed
like a foreign language to some Americans of the 19th century. Only the fortunate received an
education, and the less fortunate had to fight for whatever

The Influence Of College Football On American Culture
During the early 20th century college football played a bad role and influence on American culture
by diminishing a good college education. I oppose the role that college football had on American
culture because it took away from the main purpose of going to college, which was getting a good
education for most Americans. Since the US was involved in World War 1, many veterans came
back to the US with no jobs. College coaches were exploiting veterans by concentrating on making
their team better rather than wanting them to focus on an education, so that they could get a good
job in the future.
When recruiting athletes for football college coaches went to find the fittest guys to improve their
teams, and those guys just happen to be veterans coming back from war with no jobs. Once veterans
came back and joined collegiate football teams, they became impecunious athletes in college and
after if they didn't focus on an education as well. But to collegiate coaches in the 20th century
getting an education so that athletes can have a well–paying job in the future was not their concern.
According to the Carnegie report which said, "the presence of the impecunious athlete in American
schools, his desire to secure the advantages of a college education, and his inability or unwillingness
to distinguish between proper and improper assistance have combined to produce a fertile field in
which to sow the tares of commercialized exploitation and subsidies" (The Carnegie 227). Stating
that athletes in American schools are poor and in need of financial support. Therefore, an education
should be the main thing collegiate coaches tell athletes when they're recruiting them. If war veteran
is convinced to just focus on football while in college and that education isn't as important, then
they're just going to be even poorer once their eligibility is up. Getting an education should be a
priority when coming into college, because with little education the harder it is for athletes who
aren't going professional to find a well–paying job after college.
With most college football players in the 20th century being indigent athletes, coaches had to find a
way to get the best of the best players for their team. Even if they had to pull a

Rhetorical Analysis On The Perils Of Indifference
"He was finally free, but there was no joy in his heart. He thought there never would be again". This
quote stated by Elie Wiesel from his speech, "The Perils of Indifference", refers to the day Elie
Wiesel got liberated from the Holocaust when he was young. The Holocaust was just one of the
many horrific tragedies that occurred during that century. In hopes of changing the future for the
better, Wiesel decides to deliver a speech about helping the victims of injustice. He gives this speech
intended for the President, Mrs. Clinton, members of Congress, Ambassador Holbrooke,
Excellencies, and friends hoping that they will make positive changes for the future. By using
rhetorical strategies such as anaphora, rhetorical questions, and ethos, Wiesel tries to help the
victims of injustice and prevent future tragedies from happening. Throughout Wiesel's speech, he
used a copious amount of anaphora. Wiesel used this technique to help get his point across to the
audience. He explains how easy it is to use indifference; consequently, people are taking
opportunities from others. Wiesel explains, "our work, our dreams, our hopes" (Wiesel 1–2), to
show the audience what indifference is effecting in their lives. By repeating the word "our" before
each subject that is being affected, he is showing the audience that the victims being affected have
their own opportunity for work, dreams, and hopes. By others being indifferent, the victims may not
have those opportunities anymore.

The new advertisements focused on creating unique slogan that consumers would remember and
that cast products in an optimistic light (N.p. [Page 1]). By the 1880s, advertisement seems to take
on a driving aspect of its own, and focused on the creation of "wants" and "needs" in the growing
consumer population in order to create a market for certain items, clever businessmen would
advertize products in careful language, designed to influence potential buyers into seeing the
necessity of owing particular products. Economic effects on society, especially in Americans
families, became apparent during the twentieth century. The place of women in the new economy
was firmly cemented in the early decades of the twentieth century, with the rise of Progressivism
and supply and demand economics (N.p. [Page #]). Progressive reformers and businessmen alike
appealed to and propagated the idea of virtuous households, carrying a theme from the culture of
sentimentalism in the 1850s that stressed the value of nuclear families with morally upright – if
submissive – mothers. Many of the advertisements seen in this collection are clearly directed at
women .The foundations of household economy were raised in the early twentieth century and

#3. It is 2025, identify the types of roles nurse leaders have in healthcare. You will want to discuss
their scope and competencies they need to have to do the work. Nurses must be permitted to practice
in harmony with their professional education, and the knowledge they receive must prepare them to
provide patient–centered, safe, high–quality care (IOM, 2011). Between 1995 and 2009, there was a
48% increase in the amount of nurse practioners (NP) to primary care physicians (NASEM, 2017).
The schooling is relatively shorter for NP than it is for an MD. In 2025, there will be more of an

Brave New World Rhetorical Analysis
In the satire Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the author uses rhyme to reveals that one should
not become engulfed in the present and scorn the past and future, because becoming blind to the past
affects the future and present. Lenina repeats rhyming phrases to convince Bernard to use soma and
forget his worries of the future: "'Was and will make me ill' she quoted, 'I take a gramme and only
am'" (Huxley 104). However Lenina does not become a character worthy of emulation or sympathy
which alienates her from any influences to readers or connections made should Huxley have
intended it. The genre of the book implies that most of the evidence directly stated contradicts the
author's message which urges actions opposite of the depicted. The rhyming

Octavia Butler's Kindred: Parallelism Analysis
Octavia Butler's Kindred is a compelling novel in and of itself. It incorporates the thrill of science
fiction, the truth of historical fiction, and the power of a neo–slave narrative to create an
unforgettable story. However, Kindred is also impressive on the front of literary techniques and
style. A large part of what makes the novel so fascinating is its consistent use of parallelism. In
particular, the major parallel between Dana's experience as a black woman in antebellum America
and 20th century America gives the plot depth by debunking the notion that the future is exclusively
progressive in comparison to the past. In Kindred, the literary device of parallelism relates Dana's
experience as a black woman in the 19th century and the 20th century on the bases of education,
gender, and race, all of which show that the two time periods in ... Show more content on

For example, on Dana's third trip back, her white husband, Kevin, came with her. This, of course,
was immediately significant upon their arrival in the 19th century. When Rufus and Kevin met,
Rufus asked whether Dana belonged to Kevin under the assumption that Kevin was a slave owner
and Dana was a slave. This was not the case, obviously. However, Kevin's response was strange
nonetheless: ""In a way," said Kevin. "She's my wife"" (Butler 60). With this reply, Kevin insinuated
that he believed, to a certain degree, that Dana 'belonged' to him as his wife. This is significant in
that it revealed the discreet nature of gender roles in the 20th century. When paired with the more
obvious gender roles of the 19th century, discreet 20th century gender roles are amplified and
revealed, showing that while the perception of gender roles changed over time, the two time periods
still shared similarities, thus paralleling the past and the

How Did Nostradamus Predict The Future
Nostradamus Nostradamus was made the most famous prophet in history, conjuring the future and
foreseeing what lies in store for us all. He warned humanity of its greatest threats, and described
apocalyptic events. But could he really predict the future? He couldn't have earned his title as one of
the world's greatest prophets if his predictions never came true. There are those who say they do
come true time and time again, as history continues in an infinite cycle to repeat itself. Not all of his
prophecies paint a picture of dome but many of them do, even describing when the end of the world
will happen.
In 1503 in Salon De–Provence, France, Nostradamus was born into a Jewish family to a grain
dealer. It is believed he descended from the Issachar Tribe, who were known prophets, in the
modern day they would be the equivalent to a Jewish Rabbi, it was believed they had a special
connection to God which gave them the ability of predict future events. The Issachar Tribe also used
stars to see the future, and at an early age Nostradamus showed aptitude for astrology. When he was

How Does Edward Bellamy Promote Freedom?
Edward Bellamy's, "Looking Backward: From 2000 to 1887," challenges the problems of the Gilded
Age and opens the readers to a new type of progressive, where he not only sheds light on the
inequalities of capitalism but also provides a solution for it. While Bellamy's book does introduce
his readers to many different themes, a consistent one is that of freedom. Bellamy's vision for the
future promoted freedom in the ways of change, government and the relief of social pressures.
According to one of the characters from Edward Bellamy's book, the 20th century's quick change
was a logical outcome due to the rapid industrialization of the 19th century (92). And while that
certainly contributed to the quick paced change of Bellamy's utopian society, another factor I believe
that came to play was that of the people's freedom to change. The people of the 19th century were
heavily divided between two classes, that of the rich and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Media 's Goals For The Future
Throughout history, humans have possessed an intrinsic desire to communicate with one another.
Traditionally, communication occurred in the form of face–to–face contact, body language, or via
written messages sent from one to another. However, the invention of one particular form of
communication, mass communication, has changed the way some messages are sent and received.
Mass communication is defined as, "the industrialized production and multiple distribution of
messages through technological devices," and has allowed for the rise of mass media outlets, or
"companies that send out messages via mass media" (1). One such outlet is 21st Century Fox, a
global media organization involved in the production and distribution of media content across a

In a globalized world, only a larger, more beneficial and more inclusive vision will hold good in
order that it becomes sustainable. So, whether we are looking at issues like food, shelter, well being
or the security or our environment, the world will be united in its pain and, for that matter, its gain.
We will not be able to be selectively isolated. The 21st century leader ought to have a larger
perspective beyond just thinking of my enterprise, my state or my country. Creating and Maintaining
Diversity: All leaders work with teams. These teams include diverse individuals with different
backgrounds, experiences and even ethnicity's. One of the greatest challenges of leadership in
modern society is finding ways to create a unified front among team members. This is often difficult
when members of a team may remain at remote areas. The 21st century leader will have to be
comfortable in dealing with diversity. They will not seek comfort in sameness, but will celebrate
differences and see the associated tension as an opportunity for pursuing a higher and better order of
things. Leader can overcome the challenges associated with creating and preserving a diversified
team by encouraging horizontal communication and knowledge sharing. What this means is
information does not come from the top–down alone, but instead from person to person. Dealing

that all men were created equal by God. In future the sons of former slaves and the sons of former
slave owners would sit at the table of brotherhood. There would be freedom and justice. Their
children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of character. Similarly the
boys and girls of whites would hold the hands of the boys and girls of Negroes.
4.What is the American dream and how does king relate his dream to the American dream?
The speech "I Have a Dream" was delivered by Martin Luther King on the occasion of the centenary
celebrations of Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation on 28th August 1963. The speech
was dramatically delivered on the steps of Lincoln Memorial and it was witnessed by about two
million people. This speech is often considered to be one of the greatest and notable speeches in
history and the top American speech of the 20th century.

Research Paper On 21st Century Capitalism
21st Century Capitalism
21st Century Capitalism. By Robert Heilbroner. (New York: Norton, 1993. 175pp., $17.95)
The Work of Nations: Preparing Ourselves for 21st Century Capitalism. By Robert Reich. (New
York: Vintage, 1992. 339pp., $14.00)
Undoubtedly, the 20th century has witnessed some of the most significant economic events in
modern history. For example, the Great Depression saw capitalism come close to its end, and the
principles of laissez–faire repudiated as the New Deal was enacted to rehabilitate the economy.
More recently, the downfall of the Soviet Union represented a major victory for capitalism over the
now–defunct communist system, which is nearing extinction even in the land of Mao, as China

Command necessitates orders from some authority and is based on some enforcement mechanism.
Some examples of peoples who lived in Command societies are the Romans under the emperors, the
Egyptians under the pharaohs, and Stalinist Russia.
The purpose of this analysis is to arrive at the concept of the Market, fundamental to the workings of
capitalism. The Market system involves each individual doing what he or she pleases, without any
instructions or directions from above. The theory goes that any shortages or excesses will be
alleviated since the market is above all, self–correcting.
Central to capitalism is the drive for capital, to which Heilbroner devotes an entire chapter. He goes
to great lengths to differentiate between capital and wealth. "Capital is wealth whose value does not
inhere in its physical characteristics but in its use to create a larger amount of capital". (Heilbroner
46) Thus, capital is valued because of its ability to increase itself, while wealth is relatively static.
Another superb aspect of Heilbroner's work is his ability to interweave the words of other great

What Kind of World Do You Want for the 21st Century?
In 2012, the concentrated eruption of disputes in East Asia, the continued conflict between Pakistan
and Israel both suggest that the haunting history has been and even is increasingly to be sources of
distrust, hatred, and thus conflicts in the world. As the 20th century passed away, the 21st century
has brought us a difficult task as how to deal with our tumultuous past. I hope that the world in the
new century would be a world that can be at peace with its past–––it would not be mired in the
historical grievances, but would instead look into possibilities of the future. William Faulkner once
said: "The past is never dead, it is not even past." This still holds truth today. Decades and even
centuries on, our uncomfortable historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I say a world at peace with the past, what I mean by "peace" is not necessarily the state of no
wars or disputes, but rather, it describes a state of mind: inner harmony, healthy ego, etc. So in the
21st century world I vision, there might still be disputes over historical issues, but people would
look at them more objectively and rationally, and deal with it with mutual respect and humanity. The
past will remain embarrassed at times, but instead of reviewing its bitterness again and again, I hope
that human beings could focus more on the possibilities of the present, and of the future. Because
after all, we are currently the makers of history, and it is up to us that what kind of legacy we will

School Schools Are Preparing Students And Teachers Meet...
Ontario schools are preparing students and teachers to meet the literacy needs of the 21st Century
Introduction
The influences of multimedia, technologies, multiculturalism, multilingualism, emerging
economies, corporations, and business organizations on education systems have numerous
challenges for schools in 21st Century. There are about 4000 publically funded elementary schools
and 850 secondary schools in Ontario which provide education to approximately 2.1 million
students (Ministry of Education, 2014). Such an extensive education system requires continuous
evaluation of ongoing programs and planning and implementation of new initiatives to meet the
future demands. Stakeholders such as parents, educationists, educational organizations, policy
makers, and employers can play a strong role in shaping tomorrow 's education systems. This paper
will discuss 21st century literacies, role of teachers, role of students, and preparedness of teachers,
and expectations of parents and employers about tomorrow 's schools.
21st Century Literacies
Literacy is" the ability to use printed and written information to function in society, to achieve one 's
goals, and to develop one 's knowledge and potential" (White & McCloskey). Literacy not only
involves knowledge and skills that help in listening, speaking, reading, and writing but also using
languages, establishing relationships, and understanding social practices and cultures (United
Nations Educational, Scientific and cultural

Imperialism: The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx
While nineteenth century Europe confronted different domestic and global problems than those
encountered during the Enlightenment, European civilization continued to rely on rational thinking.
During the Enlightenment, there were efforts to understand and control knowledge. In nineteenth
century Europe, Marxism applied these efforts to attempt to control the future of workers.
Additionally, imperialism used perceived knowledge to enhance European political power on a
global sphere. While there was growing concern about the dangers of human power, nineteenth
century Europe emerged as a civilization that expanded the capability of humans to dominate
society. With a growing sense of intellectual certainty, as established during the Enlightenment, ...

With imperialism during this era, European nation states extended their power to both Africa and
Asia for economic and political gains. In Joseph Conrad's novella, Heart of Darkness, Marlow, the
protagonist, stated, "They still belonged to the beginnings of time – had no inherited experience to
teach them, as it were" (Conrad, 40). By using this rhetoric, Conrad was able to reveal the
conception many Europeans had that imperialism was justified due to Europe's extensive knowledge
as a society. By classifying Europe, and those from it, as having a superior civilization, Europeans
were able to conceal their imperialists goals under aims of sharing this

Beyond Borders
Summary: The main idea in the article "Beyond Borders: What it Means to be a Global Citizen" by
Drew Noble Alexander is identifying the true meaning of a global citizen. To be considered a true
global citizen, one must have a broad sight of the world and is inadequate to find answers towards
today's problems. According to Alexander, with each new generation coming the world faces
different problems. Therefore, students need to work with others to solve some of the world's
greatest challenges. With that being said, international curriculum allows students to develop
awareness of how the world really works which results in a better technique to solve complications.
In the long run, saving the planet for future generations is the goal, and to

The Century Quilt
In the poem "The Century Quilt" by Marilyn Nelson Waniek the "Century Quilt" is a nostalgic
necessity of the narrator. The upbringing of nostalgia throughout the poem is the telling of an
Odyssey, a journey home though not physical but emotional. Through the constant use of pragmatic
imagery that is erupting with allusions to the past and the unusual use of form that gives the poem a
platform to project itself Waniek is able to produce a stunning display of emotion and nostalgia that
displays the complex meanings of the quilt and the vital importance of it to the narrator. Waniek's
unique form style splits the poem into three stanzas which represent the past the present and the
future. The first stanza which embodies the past is written in past tense. Words like "remembered",
"planned", and "were" allude to the past and tell how the narrator is thinking of the joy that the quilt
brought her. The second stanza is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stanzas opening "Now I've found a quilt I'd like to die under" is a small change in tone but it is
not minor in scope. The slight change from a calm nostalgia to more exited nostalgia is very
important resulting in a change of diction. The narrator begins to describe the quilt with phrases that
contain allusions to her past like "the yellowbrown of Mama's cheeks". The change of tones impetus
fuels these allusions which attribute to the complex meaning of the century quilt that family is the
blanket of life which keeps one safe through the darkness(night). The immense amount of illusions
continue on into the third stanza strengthening the complex meaning. Whilst being the longest
paragraph the third paragraph is also a hive of hidden meanings with allusions to the future and of
what's to come of the quilt. The most essential part of this paragraph is the use of the word "dreams"

The Pros And Cons Of Dystopia
Dystopia is a fictional genre of literature which represents a dark pessimistic image of a society
marked by oppression, inequity, fear and dehumanization. Dystopia can be described as anti–Utopia
as it defies the fundamental aspects of Utopia. The word Utopia means (good place) while Dystopia
means (The no good place). Professor Gregory Claeys explains the difference between the two terms
"Dystopia is usually supposed to be an inverted, mirrored or negative version of utopia, the
imaginary bad place as opposed to the imaginary good place''(Claeys). Moreover, Dystopia is
defined by The Oxford Companion to English Literature Dictionary as "a term coined to convey the
opposite of utopia: the dystopian mode, which projects an unpleasant or catastrophic ... Show more

The back story and the description of the society depend on whether the dystopia is futuristic or
post–apocalyptic. In the futuristic dystopia, the back story explains how the society became
technologically advanced and describes how technology is an essential part of peoples' lives. As for
the post–apocalyptic dystopia, the back story describes a climatic or nuclear disaster that occurred
which has led to the loss of a massive number of the population. In both dystopias, there is a face of
power, usually the government, that establish the rules and keeps order in check. The dystopian
society is divided into two classes: a class that represents the power and a submissive class that
represents the common people. Julia Gerhard proposes in Control and Resistance in the dystopian
novel that the class of the common people can be further divided according to their social function

Asi A Dynamic And Growing Global Capital
Over the last half–century or so, Asia has emerged out of the dust of World War II into a dynamic
and growing global capital. Its countries, which were once poorer than sub–Saharan Africa, are now
economically strong and vibrant players in the global economy who are capturing market shares up
and down the global value chain. China, Japan, and India are three of the largest economies in the
world today, and Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea are some of the most innovative economies as
measured by patent activity. Moreover, while the United States and Europe stagnated in the Great
Recession of 2008, China–through its massive fiscal muscle–was able to cushion its vast economy
and maintain a robust GDP growth rate of 11% that year. Hence, far from the economically
backwards and impoverished basket case that it was fifty years ago, Asia is now at the forefront of
the global economic–and by extension of its growing economic might–political landscape as well.
Some may even say that the 21st century is Asia's century, and they are right to a certain extent. The
21st century is Asia's century, but it is also one in which the United States will continue to play a
leading role. The 21st century is Asia's century because the global economy is re–centering towards
Asia. First of all, there is little doubt that Asia is now the world's factory. Aside from the almost
ubiquitous branding of "made in China" on manufactured items that span from toys to electronics in

World War I Was The War That Shaped The Future Of The 20th...
World War I was the war that shaped the future of the 20th century and is what helped make the
United States becom e a Super power. Since its Independence the United States had taken a stance
of isolationism from conflicts in Europe and Asia. To further assert their stance on isolationism the
United States passed the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 which stated that any attempt by a European
nation to colonize or interfere with North and South American would be seen as an act of
aggression. The United States isolationist stance would allow them to expand their borders and
industrialize there country as well as their military. The ended of the 19th century showed the quick
industrialization of the United States both economically and militarily. With revolution stirring up in
Cuba Theodore Roosevelt built up our navy and was key in the Victory over Spain. With a booming
economy and a strong army and navy the U.S. was beginning to make its mark as a world power.
However even after the Spanish American War 1898 the United States still remained isolationist but
did trade with European nations as well as Latin America. During the 20th century the United States
would finally make it self–known as a world power to the western hemisphere. Europe as a
continent host a large number of countries many of whom have been at war throughout their long
history, fighting for land and resources. World War I will set the stage for the eventual end of
imperialism and the collapse of empires. On

Students are given the opportunity to learn efficiently from educators that are diligently dedicated
and knowledgeable of their profession. Incorporating programs that reflects one's mission will
ensure learning that is flourishing. 21st Century for example, is an educational organization that
provides the required assets for educational opportunities to thrive. 21st Century defines its program
through the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (2007) that advocates readiness for students by
providing tools and resources that will readily prepare students to advance in the digital world. This
gives the educator the opportunity to include various techniques of learning critical to global
awareness. Visions statements guide one to a successful future. A vision is considerably created after
a mission statement to determine future goals that are to be achieved. Vision statements
complements mission statements, but transcends them as visions describes the future (Abelman,
2009). This takes into account the direction in which one wishes to pursue. Educators create a vision
to determine expectations of students and the concepts that teachers want students to render. 21st
Century also establishes ways for educators and students to diligently progress in the areas of
skillful learning along with information and technology literacy. From the definition of the 21st

Drones Is Becoming An Increasingly Popular Technology Item...
The use of drones is becoming an increasingly popular technology item. Initially developed and
restricted to only military use, the advances in technology have suddenly made the public use of
drones more accessible. Although, consumer version drones are not as sophisticated and complex as
military drones, the principal remains relatively the same. In 2015, worldwide spending on drones
was at $4 billion. This was set to more than triple in the next decade with military drone research
spending estimated at $30 billion in the next 10 years. (Keller, 2015) The concept of drones is still
relatively new to consumers, however they have been around for and used by the military for many
decades already. This essay will describe the broad classifications of drones in service used by the
military and the airpower task they are employed in. It will also discuss with examples their
effectiveness and will evaluate whether the development of unmanned aviation in the 21st century is
like the replay of development of manned heavier than air flight in the 20th century. Finally, it will
describe the possible military and civilian task for drones in the future ahead.
A drone can also be called an unmanned aircraft system (UAS). There are also other terms such as
'Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems' (RPAS) and 'Unmanned Aerial Vehicle' (UAV)' used, but in
reference they are all same being "An aircraft / aircraft–system that is flown from a remote location

The Greatest Era Of American History
If I had the fortuity to adventure to any place or time of my choosing, I would undoubtedly select,
what I believe to be, the greatest era of American history. This was a time when every man's
fingerprint set a precedent for the future of American government. The age where citizens gallantly
fought for revolution from their oppressors, nobly laying down their lives for freedom for their
descendants. A generation that turned a moment into a movement by discovering their voices and
utilizing them to shape a new nation that they got to build. I would travel to watch the birth of
America in the 18th century. Although other choices in romantic Europe and ancient China would
tempt me because of my other roots, America is my home. America has gotten to watch me grow up,
so I would like to return the favor and witness the birth of my nation. I would walk the streets of
New York before it was mutilated by flashy signs and taxicabs, and hear shouts of revelation from
men in the streets instead of profanation. Citizens then were involved in their government, and
would exercise their right to vote instead of taking it for granted. Men, women, and children alike
would sit and listen attentively for hours on end to political addresses and speakers who advocated
for change. The middle class knew about bills that were being passed and the state of foreign affairs.
All of the social classes spoke to each other with an air of sophistication and linguistic maturity that

The Future Of Residential Schools In The 19th Century
"We are here to study history, not repeat it." One of the various reasons we study history is to reflect
on the past and grow and learn from people's past mistakes to try and avoid them in the future. The
individuals/groups who were unfairly treated cannot just forget what happen to them or their family
they still feel the effects every day. For example, when Canada's did the unjust acts of opening
residential schools in the 19th century (the final one did not close until 1996) and the horrific acts
that happened in them, and because of this, many future generations of indigenous people are now
forever affected. Their kids and grandkids now cannot speak their native tongue, and those

Compensation is defined as "something, typically money, awarded to someone as a recompense for

country that turned into an authoritarian government with arguably the worse dictator in history

liberation of the concentration camps and the end of World War II, the marks of the Holocaust

traumatic experiences and loss. Germany was not the only country to compensate as Germany was
not the only country that was part of the Nazi regime. Other countries like Russia, Sweden, Austria,

Looking Backward Analysis
In the novel Looking Backward, by Edward Bellamy, a newly discovered vision of the future is
placed into a mind of a man 100 years before its time. The nineteenth century experienced strife and
confusion as to where the future was headed. The time period was a major stepping stone for the end
of reconstruction. The workforce was ever–changing, making the economy very competitive. The
answer to these problems in Bellamy's eyes was equality. In Looking Backward, he presented to his
audience his idea of a perfect society. In his novel, Bellamy describes Julian West as a wealthy, high
class individual in his time period. In the late nineteenth century, the nation's economy faced
retrenchment and did not experience improvement that was expected. The populist movement was
prevalent in the nineteenth century. The people put it upon themselves to work for what they have.
In the Omaha platform is states, "Wealth belongs to him who creates it, and every dollar taken from
industry without an equivalent is robbery. If any will not work, neither shall he eat. The interests of
rural and civic labor are the same; their enemies are identical" (Populist Platform, Sec.2). The
workforce is designed for people to be able to provide for themselves and their family. Wealth is put
upon those who are willing to work. In the society that Bellamy depicts, everyone receives the same
amount of credit for different kinds of work. West is baffled by this concept. Bellamy discusses a
concept in the

The Development Of Mathematical Psychology
Psychology established into a mathematical discipline through a series of events during history. This
establishment led to the development of mathematical psychology; a field encompassing empirical
methodology (Benjafield, 2015). Furthermore, through the implementation of math in psychology,
findings from previous and current studies of psychology influenced the plethora of knowledge
available today–directly impacting society's understanding and application of psychological
phenomena. This is articulated through mathematical ideas originating from the ancient Greeks,
which inspired further research in the field – abundantly, throughout the past three centuries (18th to
21st) (Benjafield, 2015). Specifically, ideas from Euclid in ancient Greece inspired Gustav Fechner
to develop mathematical concepts in his formation of psychophysics (Zudini, 2011). In the 18th
century, arguments regarding the implementation of math in science were becoming a common
query. The field of psychometrics began during this period and early psychologists like Ernst Weber
began developing relationships between mathematical concepts (Benjafield, 2015). During the 19th
century, Gustav Fechner developed his field of psychophysics and inspired several future
psychologists to continue his work and develop their own ideas of mathematical psychology
(Benjafield, 2015; Robinson, 2010). Developments in this field instigated the notion of using
experimental psychology during World War I, and the 1950s–1970s

Why Science Is Essential For Students
Science knowledge, skills and understanding are essential for students to be effective citizens in the
21st century.
This essay will show the reader why science is essential for students to become effective citizens in
the 21st Century. It will explore the meanings behind the words "21st century learning" and what it
means to be an effective citizen. It will explain why science more so than ever before is an integral
part of the primary school curriculum.
21st Century Learning

Being an effective citizen means the ability to investigate, stay informed, communicate, collaborate
and take creative action. Citizens need to be able make sense of local, national, and global events,
trends and information. They need to not only focus on the future but also saving the heritage of the
past. As part of 21st century learning we are focusing on producing effective citizens with an
approach to citizen education. "While the emphasis is on personal development it is also on
community, environmental and world concerns."(Cogan 2000)" All students deserve to acquire the
knowledge and skills that empower them to be informed, engaged and active citizens."(skills 2013)
It is imperative that citizens of today are flexible problem solvers that can partake in the future
direction of our planet. This requires a range of knowledge, skills and experiences.
Science knowledge skills and understanding
Science understanding is evident when a person selects and integrates appropriate science
knowledge to explain and predict phenomena, and applies that knowledge to new situations.
"Science knowledge refers to facts, concepts, principles, laws, theories and models that have been
established by scientists over time."(Australian Curriculum 2014)

Differences Of Teaching And Learning In The 21st Century
Teaching and learning in the 21st century is advanced and fast paced, however it is often discussed
when the continuous need and want for change occurs. As 21st century education is changing at a
rapid rate our students are now more educated and empowered than ever before. The constant
change in 21st century education links in with globalisation and the many factors that influence
social change. The discussion throughout this essay will entail the major differences between 21st
and 20th century teaching and learning. It will also discuss the major impacts that the changes in
globalization, and factors that influence social change have upon education today.
Twenty first century teaching and learning is the education system that we have today. It prepares
our young learners with the advanced skills to address their challenges within their future. Certain
core competencies such as collaboration, digital technology, literacy and critical thinking and
problem solving are supported by the communication, technology and education that is provided in
the 21st century. Comparing teaching and learning in the 20th century, to teaching and learning in
the 21st century a high and vast amount of change is existent. In the 20th century, learning was
mainly textbook driven, today learning is driven by re–search, digital technology, and the world
around the learner. In the 20th century teachers would provide passive learning, today in the 21st
century teachers are now obliged to provide

The Future Of Enlightenment Topic In The 18Th Century

  • 1. The Future Of Enlightenment Topic In The 18th Century The Future of Enlightenment Balpreet Palha 214985881 Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of HUMA 1910, York University Mark Terry, TA Tutorial # 3 Enlightenment was a prevalent topic in the 18th century. In 1784 Kant, Immanuel wrote An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment?. In which Kant sheds light on the distinction between public and private reason using many different instances. Kant proposes that public use of freedom is essential for enlightenment, but says the private reason is not as useful as public. Similarly, this paper will argue that public freedom can more effectively lead to enlightenment, but private reasoning can also lead to enlightenment using present day examples, comparing past and present circumstances and indulging into the outcome of both private and public reasons. Kant explains, "Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self–imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another" (Kant, 35). Although immaturity in today's linguistic language is thought of as being irresponsible or childish, Kant however uses immaturity to describe the incapability to be able to think on your own. Additionally Kant explains that an immature person becomes so dependent on others to make his decisions that he overlooks thinking for himself. Kant uses an analogy of restrained animals, like cattle and how they "will not dare take a single step without go–cart to which they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Importance Of Education In The 21st Century Teaching and learning in the 21st century develop skills beyond listening, watching and remembering. Education in the 21st century incorporates advanced learning tools, development of skills, while actively involved in your own learning and environment. Also, education today is motivating while inspiring and preparing students for today's world. Students gain the ability to adapt when needed for the changing world of tomorrow. Twenty–first century education is understanding how students learn with a more hands–on approach while building skills. However, the '4C's creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration' (Kolk, 2011) are skills that are important for students learning. Therefore, they can actively consume and create data and knowledge in ways that deliver substance and relevance to them (Bolstad, Gilbert, McDowall, Bull, Boyd & Hipkins, 2012; Watson, 2012). Clearly, the classroom in the 21st century is a modern environment. This modern environment consisting of little groups of tables placed together for students to sit and learn together as well as discuss what they are doing. Meanwhile, displaying student's art to decorate the classroom has a sense of pride. Above all, the classroom has visible items as an interactive whiteboard, Internet access, projector and computers, accessible for student and teachers daily. Teachers in the 21st century approach, students learning in the classroom by making them the centre of their own learning. Therefore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Sir Thomas More Contributed On The 19th Century And Future... Sir Thomas More contributed immensely to political thought in both the 16th century and future generations in his complex novel Utopia. Influenced by Plato's Republic, More describes the concept of one potential state of a perfect commonwealth which has led to much speculation and debate. The fictional island of the Utopians is argued to have heavily influenced communism and brings to the fore both the concepts of idealism and pragmatism and the difficulty of balancing them. The novel largely focuses on the concept of knowledge and the theme of power – how it should be used and the fatalities it can cause. In my essay, I will critically examine the relationship between knowledge and power in the text whilst establishing the key facts and important issues surrounding the relationship. The noun 'Utopia' now denotes 'an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect' and is linked to both Communism and Marxism. The novel was written in Latin and is thereby intended to be read in this language, yet despite the translation to English, perhaps which adds to the confusing nature of the book, it is noted that 'even erudite Renaissance humanists – the audience to whom More addressed the great social–political questions of his time –might not have understood the subtle brunt of his irony.' As More discusses the issues of his contemporary European society in Book 1 of Utopia, the relationship between knowledge and power is first established in relation to the ... • 13. What Does 21st Century Literacy Mean To Me What does 21st century literacy mean to me? 21st century literacy has been the foundation of the Ontario school curriculum since the early 2010s. The definition of what Ontario claims is literacy is "...the ability to use language and images in rich and varied forms to read, write, listen, speak, view, represent, discuss and think critically about ideas." (Paying Attention to Literacy document, 2013). Literacy is very different from what I have learned in school. In today's society literacy takes many forms. From Mental health to Financial literacy, each and everyone of them have a significant impact on a student's life. These are very crucial to the understanding of how students interpret curriculum that they are learning about in their classrooms presently. For children today, to be literate in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This literacy is one in which even teachers need to understand. Many teachers have no idea how to deal with mental illnesses because it is a very taboo topic for them to discuss. Teachers are sometimes ignoring the fact that the second leading cause of death for adolescents is suicide (Personal Communication, Mental Health Literacy group, 2016). This is significant because the risk of this occurrence ever happening in the future is still very high. In my future curriculum I will be teaching the students the basic signs of certain mental illnesses. This will help students understand what their peers are going through if one of them is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Furthermore, students will also know and come to a better understanding of themselves if they have a mental illness. That what they have the ability to talk to me privately if they are suffering from a mental illness to which they can articulate what they are feeling to me so I can help them out ... Like ancient Greek manuscripts, the hard drive would be the most important part of the time capsule. The files stored in the capsule would not take too long to gather, but a long time to read. The files contained in the storage unit would include global warming statistics, stocks of that past couple years, census statistics, medical statistics, and all that could fit in 15 terabytes of space. Other than statistics, photos, videos, and maps would be on the drive. Documentation of the current world would be placed on the drive, including a video message from the creator of the time capsule, and pictures and maps of the area it was planted. In conclusion, the hard drive would be the main item of the capsule, containing all the information needed. Secondly, an item that would be more valuable over time could be useful such as a ring. The finder of the capsule could either make use the ring or sell it and make a bit of money. The item would have no need for a fourteen–karat gold ring, but even simple titanium or maybe silver make. Then after a century the ring would be considered antique. The idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Time capsules have so many possibilities, whether a major science breakthrough or just a smile on someone's face as they uncover someone's third–grade project. • 25. The Darkling Thrush The Darkling Thrush –Thomas Hardy (1840–1928) ________________________________________ INTRODUCTION The Darkling Thrush is included in Poems of the Past and the Present (1901), which contains many poems expressing Hardy's dismay with British imperialism. There he also mourns the passing of agricultural society and sees little cause to celebrate England's rapid industrialization, which destroy the customs and traditions of rural life. Here in The Darkling Thrush, in the transition of two centuries, he finds nothing hopeful or constructive. Yet there remain remote possibilities which the thrush prophesies. THE WEATHER First of all the poet presents a desolate winter scene at the close of the day. People living nearby had retired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What with Frost and winter and the land and birds stealing the show, there's not all that much space for, well, humans. It's not that humans don't exist. It's just that they're apparently not worth writing about. Life and death take on epic proportions in this poem, and only elements as ancient and enduring as Frost seem big enough to fill the poem. With all that bigness and grandeur, the tiny thrush seems completely and totally outmatched. Until, that is, he starts singing. FEAR What's there to be afraid of in the world of "The Darkling Thrush"? We're so glad you asked. It turns out that the answer is quite simple: everything. The world's going to hell in a hand basket, and our speaker is bound and determined to be a tour guide along the way. Sure, there aren't any actual ghosts and ghouls and creepy–crawlies around, but people who seem to be ghostly and ghoulish might just be scarier than the real thing. CONCLUSION Hardy's The Darkling Thrush is the basis of Hardy's self– designated "evolutionary meliorism". Hardy has a growing consciousness or awareness of the 'blessed hope' for the future generation. Hardy is basically pessimistic but a note of optimism is noticed here in his faith in man's future. The song of the thrush is joyous and spontaneous. The bird by virtue of its instinct knows the future but the poet is not aware of. Here Hardy's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Creating An Education System For Education Systems Creating an education system that is capable of preparing students for the future, education systems need to be configured into a new, more knowledge centered way of learning. Deconstructing established structures and routines in education systems involves several planning and practices coming together in learning and teaching to better reflect the demands of the 21st century world. Personalised learning advocates that educational systems must change from the traditional or industrial age of thinking one size fits all model. Personalised learning is a part of an educational system that surrounds the student as a learner rather than the student requiring to fit in with the system. This type of learning can be seen in a 21st century classroom, as the class using digital technology and using an app called Mathletics which has each students required level of mathematics which could range from low to high, each student works and learns at their own pace, this is in favour of the teacher stand in front of the class and teach, as students who don't understand get lost very quickly. Using personalised learning in the classroom helps the teacher to recognise where each students level of comprehension is, each student has a personalised set task to complete. Diversity, equity and inclusion is often referred to as a particular group of learners whom educational success has been harder to achieve than that of other learners (Bolsted et al, 2012) However a 21st century learning ... Those four jobs will be: a software developer, surgeons, market research analyst, and computer systems analyst. They will all play a vital role in the development of the 21st century, determining if we humankind, will develop into the next level of technology. As a software developer, the demand for mobile apps, cloud computing, and new software programs seems to be insatiable, and, as a result, the position of software developer will continue to expand and grow in the next decade. Software developers have creative minds, who develop applications that simplify the daily human life. As a surgeon, your job is to diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses in patients. The world will be needed a lot of surgeons because of the amount of doctors who will be retiring from the professing during this period. As a market research analyst, you will work in nearly every industry to gather information, analyze marketing data, and prepare reports on what they find. Since an extraordinary amount of people will be looking to start a business in the near future, market research analysts will help the businesses understand what products people want, who will buy them, and at what price. ... • 37. Summary Of Bellamy's Looking Backward Bellamy's "Looking Backward" shows how Americans during the late 19th century disregard any optimistic and utopian thinking of the future. Bellamy knew that the 19th century audience would be inimical to any change to the current economic and social practices therefore he had a difficult task in persuading the readers to consider his fictional ideal society. To do so, he had to place his utopian vision of the future within the context of the 'rational' 19th century beliefs so that the readers can compare and contrast his proposals for social and economic reforms. The freedom of choice seemed like a foreign language to some Americans of the 19th century. Only the fortunate received an education, and the less fortunate had to fight for whatever ... • 41. The Influence Of College Football On American Culture During the early 20th century college football played a bad role and influence on American culture by diminishing a good college education. I oppose the role that college football had on American culture because it took away from the main purpose of going to college, which was getting a good education for most Americans. Since the US was involved in World War 1, many veterans came back to the US with no jobs. College coaches were exploiting veterans by concentrating on making their team better rather than wanting them to focus on an education, so that they could get a good job in the future. When recruiting athletes for football college coaches went to find the fittest guys to improve their teams, and those guys just happen to be veterans coming back from war with no jobs. Once veterans came back and joined collegiate football teams, they became impecunious athletes in college and after if they didn't focus on an education as well. But to collegiate coaches in the 20th century getting an education so that athletes can have a well–paying job in the future was not their concern. According to the Carnegie report which said, "the presence of the impecunious athlete in American schools, his desire to secure the advantages of a college education, and his inability or unwillingness to distinguish between proper and improper assistance have combined to produce a fertile field in which to sow the tares of commercialized exploitation and subsidies" (The Carnegie 227). Stating that athletes in American schools are poor and in need of financial support. Therefore, an education should be the main thing collegiate coaches tell athletes when they're recruiting them. If war veteran is convinced to just focus on football while in college and that education isn't as important, then they're just going to be even poorer once their eligibility is up. Getting an education should be a priority when coming into college, because with little education the harder it is for athletes who aren't going professional to find a well–paying job after college. With most college football players in the 20th century being indigent athletes, coaches had to find a way to get the best of the best players for their team. Even if they had to pull a ... This quote stated by Elie Wiesel from his speech, "The Perils of Indifference", refers to the day Elie Wiesel got liberated from the Holocaust when he was young. The Holocaust was just one of the many horrific tragedies that occurred during that century. In hopes of changing the future for the better, Wiesel decides to deliver a speech about helping the victims of injustice. He gives this speech intended for the President, Mrs. Clinton, members of Congress, Ambassador Holbrooke, Excellencies, and friends hoping that they will make positive changes for the future. By using rhetorical strategies such as anaphora, rhetorical questions, and ethos, Wiesel tries to help the victims of injustice and prevent future tragedies from happening. Throughout Wiesel's speech, he used a copious amount of anaphora. Wiesel used this technique to help get his point across to the audience. He explains how easy it is to use indifference; consequently, people are taking opportunities from others. Wiesel explains, "our work, our dreams, our hopes" (Wiesel 1–2), to show the audience what indifference is effecting in their lives. By repeating the word "our" before each subject that is being affected, he is showing the audience that the victims being affected have their own opportunity for work, dreams, and hopes. By others being indifferent, the victims may not have those opportunities anymore. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic effects on society, especially in Americans families, became apparent during the twentieth century. The place of women in the new economy was firmly cemented in the early decades of the twentieth century, with the rise of Progressivism and supply and demand economics (N.p. [Page #]). Progressive reformers and businessmen alike appealed to and propagated the idea of virtuous households, carrying a theme from the culture of sentimentalism in the 1850s that stressed the value of nuclear families with morally upright – if submissive – mothers. Many of the advertisements seen in this collection are clearly directed at women .The foundations of household economy were raised in the early twentieth century and during the World War I era. Brave New World Rhetorical Analysis In the satire Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the author uses rhyme to reveals that one should not become engulfed in the present and scorn the past and future, because becoming blind to the past affects the future and present. • 62. Octavia Butler's Kindred: Parallelism Analysis Octavia Butler's Kindred is a compelling novel in and of itself. It incorporates the thrill of science fiction, the truth of historical fiction, and the power of a neo–slave narrative to create an unforgettable story. However, Kindred is also impressive on the front of literary techniques and style. A large part of what makes the novel so fascinating is its consistent use of parallelism. In particular, the major parallel between Dana's experience as a black woman in antebellum America and 20th century America gives the plot depth by debunking the notion that the future is exclusively progressive in comparison to the past. In Kindred, the literary device of parallelism relates Dana's experience as a black woman in the 19th century and the 20th century on the bases of education, gender, and race, all of which show that the two time periods in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, on Dana's third trip back, her white husband, Kevin, came with her. This, of course, was immediately significant upon their arrival in the 19th century. When Rufus and Kevin met, Rufus asked whether Dana belonged to Kevin under the assumption that Kevin was a slave owner and Dana was a slave. This was not the case, obviously. However, Kevin's response was strange nonetheless: ""In a way," said Kevin. "She's my wife"" (Butler 60). With this reply, Kevin insinuated that he believed, to a certain degree, that Dana 'belonged' to him as his wife. This is significant in that it revealed the discreet nature of gender roles in the 20th century. When paired with the more obvious gender roles of the 19th century, discreet 20th century gender roles are amplified and revealed, showing that while the perception of gender roles changed over time, the two time periods still shared similarities, thus paralleling the past and the ... He warned humanity of its greatest threats, and described apocalyptic events. But could he really predict the future? He couldn't have earned his title as one of the world's greatest prophets if his predictions never came true. There are those who say they do come true time and time again, as history continues in an infinite cycle to repeat itself. Not all of his prophecies paint a picture of dome but many of them do, even describing when the end of the world will happen. In 1503 in Salon De–Provence, France, Nostradamus was born into a Jewish family to a grain dealer. It is believed he descended from the Issachar Tribe, who were known prophets, in the modern day they would be the equivalent to a Jewish Rabbi, it was believed they had a special connection to God which gave them the ability of predict future events. Edward Bellamy's, "Looking Backward: From 2000 to 1887," challenges the problems of the Gilded Age and opens the readers to a new type of progressive, where he not only sheds light on the inequalities of capitalism but also provides a solution for it. While Bellamy's book does introduce his readers to many different themes, a consistent one is that of freedom. Bellamy's vision for the future promoted freedom in the ways of change, government and the relief of social pressures. According to one of the characters from Edward Bellamy's book, the 20th century's quick change was a logical outcome due to the rapid industrialization of the 19th century (92). And while that certainly contributed to the quick paced change of Bellamy's utopian society, another factor I believe that came to play was that of the people's freedom to change. In both dystopias, there is a face of power, usually the government, that establish the rules and keeps order in check. The dystopian society is divided into two classes: a class that represents the power and a submissive class that represents the common people. Julia Gerhard proposes in Control and Resistance in the dystopian novel that the class of the common people can be further divided according to their social function which the government ... • 118. Asi A Dynamic And Growing Global Capital Over the last half–century or so, Asia has emerged out of the dust of World War II into a dynamic and growing global capital. Its countries, which were once poorer than sub–Saharan Africa, are now economically strong and vibrant players in the global economy who are capturing market shares up and down the global value chain. China, Japan, and India are three of the largest economies in the world today, and Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea are some of the most innovative economies as measured by patent activity. Moreover, while the United States and Europe stagnated in the Great Recession of 2008, China–through its massive fiscal muscle–was able to cushion its vast economy and maintain a robust GDP growth rate of 11% that year. Hence, far from the economically backwards and impoverished basket case that it was fifty years ago, Asia is now at the forefront of the global economic–and by extension of its growing economic might–political landscape as well. Some may even say that the 21st century is Asia's century, and they are right to a certain extent. The 21st century is Asia's century, but it is also one in which the United States will continue to play a leading role. The 21st century is Asia's century because the global economy is re–centering towards Asia. First of all, there is little doubt that Asia is now the world's factory. World War I was the war that shaped the future of the 20th century and is what helped make the United States becom e a Super power. Since its Independence the United States had taken a stance of isolationism from conflicts in Europe and Asia. To further assert their stance on isolationism the United States passed the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 which stated that any attempt by a European nation to colonize or interfere with North and South American would be seen as an act of aggression. The United States isolationist stance would allow them to expand their borders and industrialize there country as well as their military. The ended of the 19th century showed the quick industrialization of the United States both economically and militarily. With revolution stirring up in Cuba Theodore Roosevelt built up our navy and was key in the Victory over Spain. With a booming economy and a strong army and navy the U.S. was beginning to make its mark as a world power. However even after the Spanish American War 1898 the United States still remained isolationist but did trade with European nations as well as Latin America. During the 20th century the United States would finally make it self–known as a world power to the western hemisphere. Europe as a continent host a large number of countries many of whom have been at war throughout their long history, fighting for land and resources. World War I will set the stage for the eventual end of imperialism and the collapse of empires. On ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Students are given the opportunity to learn efficiently from educators that are diligently dedicated and knowledgeable of their profession. Incorporating programs that reflects one's mission will ensure learning that is flourishing. 21st Century for example, is an educational organization that provides the required assets for educational opportunities to thrive. 21st Century defines its program through the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (2007) that advocates readiness for students by providing tools and resources that will readily prepare students to advance in the digital world. This gives the educator the opportunity to include various techniques of learning critical to global awareness. Visions statements guide one to a successful future. A vision is considerably created after a mission statement to determine future goals that are to be achieved. Vision statements complements mission statements, but transcends them as visions describes the future (Abelman, 2009). This takes into account the direction in which one wishes to pursue. Educators create a vision to determine expectations of students and the concepts that teachers want students to render. 21st Century also establishes ways for educators and students to diligently progress in the areas of skillful learning along with information and technology literacy. Initially developed and restricted to only military use, the advances in technology have suddenly made the public use of drones more accessible. Although, consumer version drones are not as sophisticated and complex as military drones, the principal remains relatively the same. In 2015, worldwide spending on drones was at $4 billion. This was set to more than triple in the next decade with military drone research spending estimated at $30 billion in the next 10 years. (Keller, 2015) The concept of drones is still relatively new to consumers, however they have been around for and used by the military for many decades already. This essay will describe the broad classifications of drones in service used by the military and the airpower task they are employed in. It will also discuss with examples their effectiveness and will evaluate whether the development of unmanned aviation in the 21st century is like the replay of development of manned heavier than air flight in the 20th century. Finally, it will describe the possible military and civilian task for drones in the future ahead. A drone can also be called an unmanned aircraft system (UAS). There are also other terms such as 'Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems' (RPAS) and 'Unmanned Aerial Vehicle' (UAV)' used, but in reference they are all same being "An aircraft / aircraft–system that is flown from a remote location without a pilot located in the ... • 134. The Greatest Era Of American History If I had the fortuity to adventure to any place or time of my choosing, I would undoubtedly select, what I believe to be, the greatest era of American history. This was a time when every man's fingerprint set a precedent for the future of American government. The age where citizens gallantly fought for revolution from their oppressors, nobly laying down their lives for freedom for their descendants. A generation that turned a moment into a movement by discovering their voices and utilizing them to shape a new nation that they got to build. I would travel to watch the birth of America in the 18th century. Although other choices in romantic Europe and ancient China would tempt me because of my other roots, America is my home. America has gotten to watch me grow up, so I would like to return the favor and witness the birth of my nation. I would walk the streets of New York before it was mutilated by flashy signs and taxicabs, and hear shouts of revelation from men in the streets instead of profanation. Citizens then were involved in their government, and would exercise their right to vote instead of taking it for granted. Men, women, and children alike would sit and listen attentively for hours on end to political addresses and speakers who advocated for change. The middle class knew about bills that were being passed and the state of foreign affairs. All of the social classes spoke to each other with an air of sophistication and linguistic maturity that has been contorted in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the various reasons we study history is to reflect on the past and grow and learn from people's past mistakes to try and avoid them in the future. The individuals/groups who were unfairly treated cannot just forget what happen to them or their family they still feel the effects every day. For example, when Canada's did the unjust acts of opening residential schools in the 19th century (the final one did not close until 1996) and the horrific acts that happened in them, and because of this, many future generations of indigenous people are now forever affected. Their kids and grandkids now cannot speak their native tongue, and those indigenous people who are traumatized by what they experienced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A democratic country that turned into an authoritarian government with arguably the worse dictator in history (Adolf Hitler) and the worst thing that has ever happen in history: The Holocaust. After the liberation of the concentration camps and the end of World War II, the marks of the Holocaust burned deeply and the survivors and their remaining relatives needed to be compensated for the traumatic experiences and loss. Germany was not the only country to compensate as Germany was not the only country that was part of the Nazi regime. • 142. Looking Backward Analysis In the novel Looking Backward, by Edward Bellamy, a newly discovered vision of the future is placed into a mind of a man 100 years before its time. The nineteenth century experienced strife and confusion as to where the future was headed. The time period was a major stepping stone for the end of reconstruction. The workforce was ever–changing, making the economy very competitive. The answer to these problems in Bellamy's eyes was equality. In Looking Backward, he presented to his audience his idea of a perfect society. In his novel, Bellamy describes Julian West as a wealthy, high class individual in his time period. In the late nineteenth century, the nation's economy faced retrenchment and did not experience improvement that was expected. The populist movement was prevalent in the nineteenth century. The people put it upon themselves to work for what they have. In the Omaha platform is states, "Wealth belongs to him who creates it, and every dollar taken from industry without an equivalent is robbery. If any will not work, neither shall he eat. The interests of rural and civic labor are the same; their enemies are identical" (Populist Platform, Sec.2). The workforce is designed for people to be able to provide for themselves and their family. Wealth is put upon those who are willing to work. In the society that Bellamy depicts, everyone receives the same amount of credit for different kinds of work. West is baffled by this concept. Bellamy discusses a concept in the ... • 146. The Development Of Mathematical Psychology Psychology established into a mathematical discipline through a series of events during history. This establishment led to the development of mathematical psychology; a field encompassing empirical methodology (Benjafield, 2015). Furthermore, through the implementation of math in psychology, findings from previous and current studies of psychology influenced the plethora of knowledge available today–directly impacting society's understanding and application of psychological phenomena. This is articulated through mathematical ideas originating from the ancient Greeks, which inspired further research in the field – abundantly, throughout the past three centuries (18th to 21st) (Benjafield, 2015). Specifically, ideas from Euclid in ancient Greece inspired Gustav Fechner to develop mathematical concepts in his formation of psychophysics (Zudini, 2011). In the 18th century, arguments regarding the implementation of math in science were becoming a common query. The field of psychometrics began during this period and early psychologists like Ernst Weber began developing relationships between mathematical concepts (Benjafield, 2015). During the 19th century, Gustav Fechner developed his field of psychophysics and inspired several future psychologists to continue his work and develop their own ideas of mathematical psychology (Benjafield, 2015; Robinson, 2010). Developments in this field instigated the notion of using experimental psychology during World War I, and the 1950s–1970s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
