Genesis 3:16-19. The Fall of Man and the Savior. I. THE PAIN CONNECTION II. THE SUBJECTION CONNECTION III. THE CURSE CONNECTION IV. THE SORROW CONNECTION V. THE THORN CONNECTION VI. THE SWEAT CONNECTION VII. THE DEATH CONNECTION
2. (Gen 3:16-19) To the woman He said: "I will
greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire
shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over
you." {17} Then to Adam He said, "Because you
have heeded the voice of your wife, and have
eaten from the tree of which I commanded you,
saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the
ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All
the days of your life. {18} Both thorns and thistles
it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the
herb of the field. {19} In the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken; For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.”
3. THE FALL OF MAN & THE SAVIOR
A. There are some obvious connections
between the fall of man and the Savior of
fallen man
B. Genesis 3:14-15 So the LORD God said to the
serpent: "Because you have done this, You
are cursed more than all cattle, And more
than every beast of the field; On your belly
you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the
days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman, And between
your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your
head, And you shall bruise His heel."
C. But there may be some connections you
may not have thought about
4. I. THE PAIN CONNECTION
A.SIN BROUGHT PAIN TO MANKIND - (Gen
3:16ln pain you shall bring forth children;
B.SIN BROUGHT PAIN TO THE SAVIOR - (Isa
53:5) But He was wounded for our
transgressions, He was bruised for our
iniquities; The chastisement for our peace
was upon Him, And by His stripes we are
healed.
5. II. THE SUBJECTION CONNECTION
A.SIN BROUGHT SUBJECTION TO WOMAN -
(Gen 3:16) Your desire shall be for your
husband, And he shall rule over you."
B.SIN BROUGHT SUBJECTION OF JESUS -
(Phil 2:8) And being found in appearance
as a man, He humbled Himself and
became obedient to the point of death,
even the death of the cross.
6. III. THE CURSE CONNECTION
A. SIN BROUGHT A CURSE TO THE GROUND -
(Gen 3:17) Then to Adam He said, "Because you
have heeded the voice of your wife, and have
eaten from the tree of which I commanded you,
saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the
ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All
the days of your life.
B. SIN RESULTED IN THE SAVIOR BECOMING A
CURSE FOR US - (Gal 3:13) Christ has redeemed
us from the curse of the law, having become a
curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is
everyone who hangs on a tree"),
7. IV. THE SORROW CONNECTION
A.SIN BROUGHT TOIL AND SORROW TO
MAN - (Gen 3:17) "Cursed is the ground
for your sake; In toil (SORROW) you shall
eat of it All the days of your life.
B.SIN BROUGHT SORROW TO THE SAVIOR
- (Isa 53:3) He is despised and rejected by
men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted
with grief. And we hid, as it were, our
faces from Him; He was despised, and we
did not esteem Him.
8. V. THE THORN CONNECTION
A.SIN BROUGHT THORNS INTO THE
WORLD - (Gen 3:18) Both thorns and
thistles it shall bring forth for you, And
you shall eat the herb of the field.
B.SIN RESULTED IN JESUS WEARING A
CROWN OF THORNS - (Mat 27:29) When
they had twisted a crown of thorns, they
put it on His head, and a reed in His right
hand. And they bowed the knee before
Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King
of the Jews!”
9. VI. THE SWEAT CONNECTION
A.SIN BROUGHT TOIL AND SWEAT TO MAN
- (Gen 3:19) In the sweat of your face you
shall eat bread Till you return to the
ground, For out of it you were taken; For
dust you are, And to dust you shall
return."
B.SIN RESULTED IN JESUS' SWEATING
BLOOD - (Luke 22:44) And being in agony,
He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat
became like great drops of blood falling
down to the ground.
10. VII.THE DEATH CONNECTION
A.SIN BROUGHT THE DEATH OF MAN - (Gen
3:19) In the sweat of your face you shall
eat bread Till you return to the ground, For
out of it you were taken; For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return."
B.SIN BROUGHT THE DEATH OF THE
SAVIOR - (Heb 2:9) But we see Jesus, who
was made a little lower than the angels, for
the suffering of death crowned with glory
and honor, that He, by the grace of God,
might taste death for everyone.
11. OUR SIN AND OUR SAVIOR
A. OUR SIN BROUGHT ALL OF THESE THINGS ON
JESUS - (Rom 5:12) Therefore, just as through one
man sin entered the world, and death through sin,
and thus death spread to all men, because all
sinned;
B. OUR SIN CAN LEAD TO THE SUFFERINGS OF
JESUS ALL OVER AGAIN - (Heb 6:4-6) For it is
impossible for those who were once enlightened,
and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have
become partakers of the Holy Spirit, {5} and have
tasted the good word of God and the powers of
the age to come, {6} if they fall away, to renew
them again to repentance, since they crucify again
for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an
open shame.
12. YOUR SIN AND YOUR SAVIOR
A.WHAT CONNECTION DOES YOUR SIN
HAVE WITH THE SAVIOR?
B.IS YOUR SIN COVERED BY THE
BLOOD OF JESUS?
C.DOES YOUR SIN CONTINUE TO
CRUCIFY THE SON OF GOD?
D.WILL YOU TURN YOUR SIN OVER TO
THE SAVIOR?
