Evert Jan Hempenius studied Tropical Agriculture at the Wageningen University, the Netherlands. After these studies he went to Kampen Theological University to study Theology. He became a pastor of the Free Reformed Church of Harlingen, the Netherlands. There he developed a special interest in the Book of Revelation and teaching youth and lay people. He went several times to Larnaca, Cyprus to teach at the John Calvin Study Centre of the Middle East Reformed Fellowship (MERF). Especially pastors and youth workers from the Evangelical Church of Egypt (Synod of the Nile) attended these courses, but also church-leaders from other countries in the Middle East.
