In this time, English becomes one of major language
used in the world especially in human communication.
So the need of mastering English has be crucial for
people.
Learning process by using ICT (Information
Communication Technology) can help teacher to design
the appropriate activity for their students. The use of
media in the process of teaching speaking will be
helpful in determining the product of speaking.
Background
That is a possible way of stimulating students to talk might be
done by providing them with the extensive exposure to
authentic language through audio-visual stimuli and with
opportunities to use the language
(Richard & Renandya, 2002).
Audio-visual media will motivate them to speak in English.
Effective interactive activities using audio-visual media should
be manipulative, meaningful, communicative, and involving
learners in using English for a variety of communication
purposes. One of the audio visual media is video.
ICT students’ speaking ability
 General comprehension
In this activity, students have to try and give as many as
information about what they have seen.
 Working with aspect of language
Both the teacher and students discuss what they have seen
focus on language
 Video as springboard to creativity
This activity helps the students understand more about
language being used and direct them to insights about
language and behavior in general
Teaching Speaking with Video
Video is an extremely dense medium, one which
incorporates a wide variety of visual elements and a
great range of audio experiences in addition to spoken
language (Richard & Renandya, 2002)
Video watching activities includes three sections
 General comprehension
 Working with aspect of language
 Video as springboard to creativity
What is Video?
Richard & Renandya (2002) suggest some guidelines to help
teacher planning video lessons effectively
 Guiding the students toward appreciating video as a language
learning tool
 Making the video an integral part of the course
 Using short sequences
 Familiarizing oneself with the material
 Treating the video as both a visual and an audio text
 Designing lessons that provide opportunities for repeated
viewing
 Planning activity
 Using video editor application in teaching speaking is
such as Project Based Learning.
 Students must make a video first where they speak up
a particular topic based on they have prepared before.
 In certain, they will settle the place, the topic to talk to,
and the proper time and costume before recording
video.
 Teacher determines the deadline of submitting and the
place for editing video whether inside or outside the
class.
 The project can be done either on group or individual.
Setting rules in teaching
KINEMaster is a video editor for Android smartphones.
KINEMaster provides a wide range of video editing functions,
including transition effects, text and handwriting overlays,
video and image layers, up to four additional audio tracks,
detailed volume envelope control, and more.
Do you know KINEMASTER?
 It is made up of multiple layers which are rare in such
software.
 It comes with a lot of themes and effects that can be
used.
 It has a special feature called speed control that is
very effective in video modification.
 It comes with a lot of adjustments.
 It has the ability to do frame by frame trimming.

The strength of using KINEMaster video editor towards
students’ speaking ability were:
 The students were expressed the dialogues as good as
they prepared
 The students were introduced to new video editor
application that motivated students to produce and
pronounce the dialogues perfectly
 Video editor was fun and interesting to make the students
enjoy on their speaking.
Strength of using KINEMaster
The weakness of using KINEMaster video editor towards
students’ speaking ability were:
 KINEMaster video editor was an android application that
not every student had an android or gadget to use it;
 Students more focus to edit the video and it also spends
more time.
Weakness of using KINEMaster
Tools like KINEMaster has become increasingly popular in the
market because of the features and their uses. Videos and images
are a very popular mode of communication in this tech-crazy world.
So people are always looking to make videos and images to express
their feelings and opinions. Since videos and images are technical
and they become more effective when they are modified and
special effects are added.
