There were no significant differences in germination, tillering, yield, or hay quality between using glyphosate and non-glyphosate methods for removing alfalfa before planting Rhodes grass. The non-glyphosate method, which used mechanical cultivation instead of herbicide, saved $31 per hectare compared to the glyphosate method. Mechanical cultivation on the left side resulted in some alfalfa regrowth while glyphosate spraying on the right side effectively removed alfalfa, but neither method negatively impacted the establishment or growth of Rhodes grass.
