The Delhi Sultanate was an Islamic empire based in Delhi that ruled northern India for 320 years between the 13th-16th centuries. It was divided into five dynasties: Khilji (1290-1320), Tughluq (1320-1414), Sayyid (1414-1451), Lodi (1451-1526). The Delhi Sultans made contributions to architecture, education, literature, and introduced Indo-Islamic culture. The last Lodi ruler, Ibrahim, was defeated in 1526 by Babur, ending the Delhi Sultanate and beginning the Mughal Empire.
