 Synopsis: The idea for our pilot factual programme is showcasing Portsmouth and
how it’s changed in time. We will look into different aspects, focusing mainly on
Southsea looking into how the landmarks, events, fashion and people have
changed.
 Target Audience: Our target audience if focusing on mainly a younger around 18+.
This includes college or university students and even workers. We have chosen this
age as we will be showing different events and development of clubs and pubs so
this will suite that age range.
 Allocate Crew Responsibilities: We have narrowed down the responsibilities for
each member of the team. Although we have dedicated positions we will all help
out each other throughout, so within the short film we will all take the role of
presenting at some point.
 Equipment needed: The main equipment we need is a camera and a tripod. These
are vital so we can film but also so it’s steady, which we can achieve by using the
tripod. We will also need a voice recorder to get voxpops of the interviews we do.
 Contributors: We hope to talk to individuals from Portsmouth for interviews. This
will be a range of different people, both young, old males and females. We want
people who have a good knowledge on Portsmouth who can give us information
and what they think about the place in general.
 Possible questions: We will ask a variety of different questions such as: How has
Portsmouth developed over the years? Has much changed, if so what? Has things
changed for the better or worse?
 Budget List:
Petrol: Est. fuel cost: £1.83 (each way)
Parking: Up to 2 hours, £2.90/2 – 3 hours, £3.90
Spinnaker Tower: Standard- £8.55/Student- £5.65
This is the Logo which we created. We decided to
keep it simple by just including the name and an
image which was most relevant. We we tried to
do a comparison between the text and image.
We done this by using a current image, with
bright colours and an old font to make a contrast
between the two and relate it to our project idea
which is comparing how things have changed
throughout the years and what has developed.

As a group we decided we wanted to represent
our idea in a visual manner. To do this we had to
get a range of images which associated with
Portsmouth and Southsea both from an old and
new perspective.
I created this in Photoshop and got a variety of
images to suite the purpose. These were images
such as the kings theatre, Spinnaker tower, Logos
and road signs. I merged them all into one to
make it visually appealing.
We created a mind map by hand, instead of
making one on the computer we decided to create
a word cloud to include key words for our idea.

Albert Road
Gunwharf
Spinnaker Tower

The research that we are going to do is about the Culture
of Portsmouth (Southsea) and what it has to offer for you,
with information and facts for you to read on popular
attractions, places to go and events. This will all be about
how its changed throughout the years.
We are selecting a variety of choices to present a
presentation and film that will give you a sneak preview of
the before and after and how it has evolved.
Portsmouth was originally called Portsea Island. With a
population of 200,000. It is the second largest city in the
ceremonial county to Hampshire on the south coast of
England.
We have done research into different places to get an idea
of what it is and how its changed since its first been there.
 The History of the Spinnaker Tower
 Kings Theatre
 Historic Dockyard, Naval Base and Victory
 Pubs, Bars, and clubs
We created a production schedule to ensure we all had
different tasks to complete and we was on time for these. We
followed the production schedule and it benefitted us as it
kept us up to date as a good and also organised. (Full
production schedule on hand-out)

First Lesson (Sinead) We got introduced into our assignment
which we then have to create a logo and production name.
Once we have done this we will create a mind map to
demonstrate ideas.
Second Lesson (Dave) We will finish the mid map if needed
and create a mood board to associate with our topic. Also we
will do secondary research into our topic.

First Lesson (Sinead) This will be our second week on
working on the assignment. We will work on the Location
Scouting form and the storyboard.
Second Lesson (Dave)
If we haven't finished the location scouting form and
storyboard we will finish this. After that we will work on the
script then begin our PowerPoint.

This is our deadline date we will finish all work is done and
make sure the PowerPoint is ready to present

Editor's Notes

  1. Title: The culture of Portsmouth Synopsis: The idea for our pilot factual programme is showcasing Portsmouth and how it’s changed in time. We will look into different aspects, focusing mainly on Southsea looking into how the landmarks, events, fashion and people have changed. We will aim it more to a younger audience, but will include both old and new footage to compare and evaluate how Southsea has developed. We will be contrasting old and new to showcase our ideas and create a short film suitable for our audience. To make it more interesting we want to video our main audio and video in the spinnaker tower to represent Portsmouth and its main landmark. We will start by mainly just focusing on the landmarks, depending on our time schedule we will then add minor aspects to make it more wide ranged. Target Audience: Our target audience if focusing on mainly a younger around 18+. This includes college or university students and even workers. We have chosen this age as we will be showing different events and development of clubs and pubs so this will suite that age range. Also as young adults we know more about what’s current and appealing for the same kind of audience so this makes it easier for us to work from. It may also interest a slightly older audience in some ways, as they may be interested to see the difference in time. So for this reason we will make sure we don’t make it too targeted. Allocate Crew Responsibilities: We have narrowed down the responsibilities for each member of the team. Although we have dedicated positions we will all help out each other throughout, so within the short film we will all take the role of presenting at some point.Camera Operator: Millie, Very familiar will all the equipment.Director: Emily, Good at ensuring everything is done as planned.Producer: Emma, Well organized and skilled and gets things done on time.Presenter: Regina, Confident and well suited for the role. Identify and list equipment needed: The main equipment we need is a camera and a tripod. These are vital so we can film but also so it’s steady, which we can achieve by using the tripod. We will also need a voice recorder to get voxpops of the interviews we do. Identify and list contributors- Individuals who might feature the programme/interview subjects: We hope to talk to individuals from Portsmouth for interviews. This will be a range of different people, both young, old males and females. We want people who have a good knowledge on Portsmouth who can give us information and what they think about the place in general.       Identify possible questions you may ask the contributor for the insert: We will ask a variety of different questions such as:How has Portsmouth developed over the years?Has much changed, if so what?Has things changed for the better or worse? Research finance and create a budget list (research the cost of transport: petrol/food/materials) Petrol: Est. fuel cost: £1.83 (each way)Parking: Up to 2 hours, £2.90

  4. The research that we are going to do is about the Culture of Portsmouth (Southsea) and what it has to offer for you, with information and facts for you to read on popular attractions, places to go and events. We are selecting a variety of choices to present a presentation and film that will give you a sneak preview of the before and after and how it has evolved.Portsmouth was originally called Portsea Island. With a population of 200,000.  It is the second largest city in the ceremonial county to Hampshire on the south coast of England. The History of the Spinnaker Tower. The spinnaker tower is one of our popular tourist attraction and landmark. It’s shape and design was chosen by Portsmouth residents and supported by the National Lottery. The tower is 170 metre (560 ft.)  A local firm HGP Architects designed it. The Spinnaker tower reflects Portsmouth’s maritime history. The tower was opened on the 18th October 2005. The planning began in 2000 and the building creation in 2001 and the total cost of £35million.Kings Theatre.Kings Theatre the heart of Portsmouth and Southsea which grand opened in 1907. Operated by Charity Kings Theatre Trust ltd.  It holds a capacity of 1,600. Providing top of the range entertainment such as beauty and the beast, The Rocky Horror Show, Grease, Chicago and many more with different genres and taste to suit everybody’s choice. They are also well known for it’s traditional Christmas pantomime.Historic Dockyard, Naval Base and Victory. The Historic Naval base is in use and controlled by the Royal Navy and is Military based. It is the oldest Royal Navy and part of an importance to the senior service’s history and the defence of the British Isles for centuries. It is also the home to the Historic dockyard, which allows and provides access to visit important maritime attractions such as HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose.Pubs, Bars, and clubs.Tiger Tiger is a chained British Nightclubs owned by Novus Leisure. And one of the best nights out in Portsmouth. The club has several bars all themed and several dance floors with a unique décor. And served delightful food.
  5. Location: Southsea/GunwharfProduction Group Names: Millie Long, Regina Coxen, Emma Veness and Emily WattsHealth and Safety Hazards: Equipment will be one of our main health and safety hazards. This includes the camera and the tripod.Tripod: They have long legs, which can get in peoples way and cause them to trip so we need to consider this and be aware to ensure they are safe.Camera: We will be outside so we need to ensure the weather is good and its not raining to avoid getting the cameras wet.We will be filming mainly outside so we need to make sure we stay away from roads and potential hazards that may harm the equipment or us. Spinnaker Tower: When we go into the spinnaker tower there will be stairs and lifts which can be a tripping hazard so we need to be careful especially when carrying the equipment. Sound: Sound will be very loud as we will be down Southsea which is a seafront so it may be windy. To avoid this so we can hear our footage well we will try avoid being in a loud area by going to more closed areas. Lighting: The lighting will be natural lighting, which is ideal as we will be able to video clear footage. Some footage may be inside such as when we are in the spinnaker tower but this still has many windows so we can remain using natural lighting.Available Space: We will have enough space and a lot of additional space. We have the whole of Southsea so space will not be an issue atall. Plugs: Plugs will not be a issue expect from when we are charging the cameras when we are inside.
  6. Productionschedue: We created a production schedule to ensure we all had different tasks to complete and we was on time for these. We followed the production schedule and it benefitted us as it kept us up to date as a good and also organised. (Full production schedule on hand-out)First Lesson (Sinead) We got introduced into our assignment which we then have to create a logo and production name. Once we have done this we will create a mind map to demonstrate ideas. Second Lesson (Dave) We will finish the mid map if needed and create a mood board to associate with our topic.
