Creativity refers to creating something new that has value. It is not limited to arts but also applies to science. The concept of creativity emerged in the 18th century and was linked to imagination rather than just expression. In the 20th century, creativity came to be understood as occurring in 5 stages - preparation, incubation, intimation, illumination, and verification. Creativity requires mastering a discipline or craft, thinking outside the box when there is a box, and taking risks without fear of failure. True creativity is judged over the long run by how it changes other people's thinking and behavior.
