Embracing diversity: Supporting international LGBTQI+ studentsLearningandTeaching
For an international student, moving to Australia to study is an exciting and amazing experience. Learning a language, immersing in a new culture, and making friends from all over the world is all part of this enriching and rewarding experience.
The international LGBTQI+ student body makes up 10% of the total cohort of students studying in Australia each year, however, an overwhelming number of studies show that there is a feeling of isolation and difficulty in finding a community of support amongst these students.
In this presentation, Louise Kane and Tegan McCarthy introduce the Rainbow Hub, a government-funded support group for LGBTQI+ international students in Brisbane. The Rainbow Hub aims to raise awareness, promote and facilitate a supportive environment for international LGBTQI students in the wider community. They also share ideas for how your institution can support your international LGBTQI+ students and ensure they thrive in Australia.

1. Some common stereotypes that coincide with the LGBTQ community are promiscuous, non-religious, flamboyant, mentally ill, high sex drives, etc.
2. The media plays a role in establishing these stereotypes because the general public is always watching these shows, reading the news, and listening to stories about different cultures and groups and media that they may not see or interact with in their lives. Therefore, media is an outlet to show these things in a easy way to gain knowledge about people without meeting people face-to-face apart of these groups when sometimes the stereotypes shown can't represent everyone in those groups.
3. Currently, in Marvel's Runaways, that ended in December, there are two lesbian superheros that share a kiss at the end of a season. Karolina, one of the characters, wants to get away from her childhood of religious upbringing and wants to pursue her own life with her superpower of glowing colors. Nico is shown with a Gothic appearance and can be seen as aggressive but down to earth as well. The War at Home was a television show on Fox and a character named Kenny, who is sixteen years old, is kicked out of his house by his parents after finding out he is gay.
a. There are some differences in the characters as Karolina is more flamboyant and colorful, compared to Nico who is goth and likes to remain strictly to business. Kenny is quiet most of the time about his life, especially about his gay crush until his p.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2. Fade In
Scene One

buildings shop and people walking.)
(Presenter)
In the 21st century most people, LGBTQ+ or straight, use phone
apps to meet people, rather than going out to find partners.
That’s why most people stay at home and can’t be bother going
into town to meet other people.
The Deaf community in York has been going to the Deaf Club
less and less, and those Deaf / LGBTQ+ have also not been going
out on the social scene. I think people should go out and meet
new people and chat face to face. This interaction makes you feel
confident and happy, better than a phone app, which can affect
your mental health.
We should start to use the phone less and spend more time
meeting new people and having new experience in real life. I
know York has a small Deaf / LGBT community but we should
have something in York that is safe environment to meet up.
I would prefer to stay in York where I live. I struggle to travel
myself because I don’t know large cities like Manchester and
Leeds that have a Deaf / LGBTQ+ community. That’s unfair for
me and the Deaf / LGBT community who live in York because I
must buy train tickets and sometimes spend money on hotels.
I am Deaf and I can’t hear people talking and can hear only a
little sound. I don’t hear information about changes to platforms
in train stations. Manchester is a busy city which can make us
feel nervous and lost.
3. York doesn’t have a Deaf Club or LGBTQ+ nightclubs. I want
York to have them because it would make me, and the Deaf and
LGBT community, feel included.
On the York Pride website there is only information about York
Pride and York LGBT History Month because these only take
place once per year.
York has one LGBTQ+ Pride Festival at The Knavesmire
Racecourse once a year in June. In June 2019, I went Pride in
York which was great. I think there should be more events to
raise awareness of what York has to offer LGBTQ+ people.
York has one LGBTQ+ pub, the Corner Pin, but this is very
small and not very welcoming. York doesn’t have ‘nights’, only
pubs with little entertainment because York has a strong
historical tourism industry. York is a place for the elderly, which
is suitable for families, middle-aged and elderly people who have
lived in York all their lives.
Scene Two
(Wayne’s interview)
The presenter – This is Wayne. He is managed and organised at
LGBTQ + group. He wants to LGBT students feel comfortable
and confident to meet other students. Also, he wants to make
them feel safe around York College. I met him once and I went
to his room. There had lots of students and they look so happy,
excited and confident. I was thinking, that is wonderful idea to
create the LGBTQ + group to show stand up and be proud. One
thing, so sadly because there are no deaf students.
I want to you all can come and visit in LGBTQ + group because I
met lots of hearing students and they are lovely. They would
love to meet Deaf people because they interested to ask me about
begin Deaf. They are opened mind and comfortable around the
students. They make me feel happy and interesting. I think you
4. should try meet them one day. You will love it and I hope we can
organising Deaf and LGBTQ + group in the future.
The fact, there are no Deaf LGBT in York expected me. But I
only have one friend who Deaf, bisexual and live in York. Which
is mean only two of us. I feel like York had empty Deaf and
LGBT. I want to make a new building Deaf and LGBT because I
want to York getting know the place. It’s can be make other Deaf
and LGBT people found new interesting about York. I want to
show them that York is support LGBTQ+.
Scene Three
(Presenter)
Here are some more interviews.
(interviews: Jack Towers, Lotte Demeterova, Robert Bishop,
Megan Starkey and Lyla Gentle)
The presenter – Wow I am so glad that other students accepted
their disability and sexuality. But I surprise some of them have
socially around in York when they want to meet up with their
friends. I think that is good because I want them to invite their
friends to come and visit in York. I hope they will spend to visit
in York.
I was disappointed that they had bullied from their young age
because young children didn’t know or learn about disability and
sexuality. That is important for us life because I want them
learn before hate crime. I am glad that St John’s School had full
deaf school but one thing I am not happy with St John’s School
because they taught children to learn oral without sign
language. That is reason why York don’t have Deaf Club because
they used oral to communication with hearing people.
Some of them who have come out LGBT and they felt much
better because they feel safe in York College and St John’s
5. School. Don’t forgot York College had LGBTQ+ group which it’s
show that they are support and make them feel comfortable. I
think York should be have LGBTQ+ night because I want people
to know that York is support and make them feel safe.
Scene Four
(Presenter)
(Matt Dixon video here)
(Presenter)
What happened here is sad, making people go to Leeds or Hull
Deaf clubs. So, York has no social place for Deaf people. There is
a small Deaf Club that is used for the elderly and children. Some
teenagers don’t go anymore and chose another place to meet.
We want to bring York Deaf Club back because we prefer to stay
local with the York community.
Scene Five
(The presenter wear LGBT big flag and little flag.)
Why am I dressed like this? Because I am gay & Deaf and I am
proud of who I am. I’m Deaf, I am LGBT and I am from York. I
want a building in York for the Deaf Club and LGBTQ+
nightclubs because I want York to welcome Deaf and LGBTQ+
people.
Hopefully we can sort out a building for the Deaf Club and
LGBTQ+ nightclubs in York. I would love York to have a lovely
Deaf festival.
I want to say to all of you, stand up and be proud of yourselves.
Ignore the haters because they are not worth it. I want you to be
happy and confident. If you are struggling to come out, you can
6. plan go to social activities to make you feel more confident about
telling your friends and family.
Thank you very much for watching me and be proud of who you
are!
